Chapter 11
Yoongi called out of work the next day, unable to get his mind off of Misun. He still was reeling from the encounter the night before, and couldn't concentrate on anything else.
He briefly considered going to a bar, but knew that wouldn't solve his problems. So, he decided to drink at home. Sure, that wouldn't solve his problems either, but at least it would be cheaper.
Hana Yoongles?
Yoongi sighed as he sipped on his second glass of whiskey.
Yoongi What?
A few minutes passed with no response, but there was eventually a chime.
Hana I'm sorry if I'm bothering you.
Yoongi You're not. I'm just not in a very good place right now.
Hana I understand. I'm sorry it happened. I can't help but feel somewhat responsible. If you wouldn't have accompanied me home, you never would've been in that situation.
Yoongi I chose to take you home. You didn't ask me to.
Hana I know, but still.
Yoongi Look, it's fine. I got to make sure you were safe, and now I know where I truly stand with Misun. No harm, no foul in the end.
Hana Okay.
Yoongi tossed his phone aside after there was no further reply. He finished his glass of whiskey in one final gulp, then set about pouring another. He had just about finished it as well when a knock sounded on his door.
He dragged himself over to it, taking his time as he still wasn't interested in interacting with anyone. When he opened it, however, he was surprised to see all five of his friends other than Namjoon standing there.
Before he could say anything, they pushed past him into the apartment. Jimin reached out and plucked the glass of whiskey from his hand.
"Hey!" Yoongi shouted, following behind him. "Give that back!"
Jimin spun around. "What happened?"
Yoongi stared at him. "What?"
"Namjoon said you called out today," Seokjin said, and Yoongi internally cursed himself for telling his best friend he'd decided to.
"He wanted to check on you, but he had to work," Jungkook explained. "So, we're here."
"Obviously," Yoongi said, annoyed.
"You never call out for anything," Taehyung said. "What gives?"
"Maybe I just needed a day with my own thoughts," Yoongi snapped. "It's not like my life has been all sunshine and roses lately."
"Yoongs," Hoseok said seriously. "What happened?"
Yoongi surged forward and swiped his drink out of Jimin's hand. Before his friend could react, he'd downed the rest of the glass. "None of your business," he finally answered.
Hoseok sighed. "We're just concerned about you."
"Well, don't bother. I'm fine."
"Clearly," Jimin said sarcastically as he tried to wrestle the whiskey bottle from Yoongi, who had just picked it up. Seokjin then stepped in and placed a hand on Jimin's arm.
"Leave it," he told Jimin. "Let him do what he needs to do."
"We've just never seen you like this," Jungkook told Yoongi quietly.
"Well, I've never felt like this," Yoongi snapped.
Jungkook sighed, but said nothing further.
"Well," Hoseok said. "If you don't want to talk, that's fine. But at least let us be here for you."
Yoongi plopped down onto the couch and poured himself another drink. "Fine. You're gonna do whatever you want anyway."
"That's not true, Yoongs," Seokjin interrupted. "If you really want us to leave, we will. But we're hoping you'll let us stay."
Yoongi simply shrugged, taking another sip. The others looked around at each other worriedly. Finally, they all settled around the living room, wanting to just be there for their friend.
Eventually, Yoongi sighed. "Misun – "
But he was cut off by his phone chiming. He glanced over at it, but then ignored it.
"Don't you want to check that?" Taehyung asked. Yoongi shook his head.
"Misun is back with the guy she left me for."
The others' eyes widened. "But," Jimin began. "I thought she asked you – "
"She did. Apparently she's just not patient enough to wait for an answer."
Nobody said anything for a few moments, until Taehyung glanced at Yoongi's phone again.
"Is that her?" he asked. "Has she been trying to get ahold of you since she told you?"
Yoongi laughed humorlessly. "Oh, she didn't tell me. I found her making out with him."
"What?!" a couple of the others exclaimed incredulously.
"Yeah, right outside of my old apartment, sucking face."
Hoseok's eyebrows rose. "Your old apartment? What were you doing there?"
Yoongi sighed, not wanting to tell them, but knowing there was no other believable excuse he could come up with.
"I accompanied Hana home after she got off work last night."
A hint of a sly smile played at Jimin's lips. "Hana?"
Yoongi shot him a warning look. "She got off work really late, and she works around here. What was I supposed to do, let her go home that far away alone that late?"
Heeding the look on Yoongi's face, Jimin didn't say anything else. But the cheeky look on his own face said what he was thinking.
"And how did you know she was working so late?" Jungkook asked, deciding to risk picking up where Jimin left off.
"She told me."
Suddenly, as if on cue, Yoongi's phone chimed again and he sighed.
"Yoongs," Seokjin said, proving he was the bravest. "Is that Hana?"
Yoongi shrugged but said nothing further.
"But you have her phone number now?" Jimin asked, no longer able to suppress his smile.
Yoongi simply shrugged again. Jimin looked over at Hoseok and they shared a knowing smile.
"Do you want me to check it?" Taehyung asked, reaching for Yoongi's phone.
"No!" Yoongi shouted, snatching it up before anyone else could touch it. In spite of himself, he finally checked the two messages he'd been ignoring.
Hana I'm sorry if I offended you or am sticking my nose where it doesn't belong.
Hana I'm just concerned for you. We're friends now, right? I just want to make sure you're okay.
Yoongi sighed. Why was she so nice?
Begrudgingly, he finally decided to write back since all of his friends were watching him.
Yoongi You're fine. And yes, we're friends. Thank you for caring.
Hana Of course.
Yoongi once again set the phone aside and took another sip of his drink. He looked around at his friends and suppressed the urge to roll his eyes as he ignored the looks on their faces.
"Yoongs," Seokjin eventually said. "You weren't seriously considering getting back together with Misun, were you?"
Yoongi ran a hand through his hair, tugging at it lightly in frustration. "I don't know. I just want what's best for the baby."
"But it might not even be yours," Jimin argued.
"Don't remind me," Yoongi groaned. Eventually, he looked up and around at his friends. "Is it bad that I hope it's not?"
Sympathetic looks crossed all of their faces. "No," Seokjin finally said. "In fact, it's completely understandable."
"But what if it is? I'll feel guilty for ever thinking that."
"Yoongs, none of this is exactly an ideal situation," Hoseok said. "Nothing you're feeling is out of the ordinary or wrong considering what you're dealing with."
Yoongi sighed. "I just can't believe that this is where I've ended up in life. What kind of sick, twisted sense of humor did some higher power have to have to dump me here, in this place?"
"C'mon, Yoongs, it's not so bad," said Jungkook.
"Yeah, you've got us. And a new friend to boot," Jimin added slyly.
"Oh, shut up. You know very well that that's all she is. Even if I wanted something different, it'd never work out. I'm just in too weird a place right now."
"Don't deny yourself good things just because you're dealing with bad things right now."
Yoongi rolled his eyes. "At this point, I feel like I'm not even worthy of good things."
"Doesn't change the fact that you are, though," said Seokjin.
Yoongi simply took another sip of his whiskey and didn't reply. "What's with the day drinking, by the way?" Taehyung asked.
Yoongi snorted. "Wouldn't you?"
Taehyung shrugged. "I guess, maybe."
"It's not a good idea, though, Yoongs," said Jimin.
Yoongi didn't reply. Jimin sighed. "At least don't drunk text Hana."
Yoongi scowled. "Who said I even want to text her right now?"
"Well, she's been texting you. Just promise me you won't reply if you keep drinking. Wait til you're sober."
"Whatever," Yoongi muttered.
