Chapter Fifteen
Lightblaze had watched his mentor retreat to his den after the vigil was over and the deputy was buried. It hurt Lightblaze to see such a strong leader like that. Despite Lightblaze knowing this was going to happen he still felt sympathy for Plainfoot, he had always been such a passionate loyal deputy.
The cream tom had been debating whether to warn the leader like he did before Plainfoot had died. Would Pebblestar really listen to him, though? Lightblaze knew it would be better to just leave Pebblestar alone but despite his judgment, he got to his paws and slowly walked over to Pebblestar's den.
"P-P-Pebblestar?" the hazel eyed tom stuttered nervously. He didn't know what response he would get from the leader. Would it be yelling for Lightblaze to leave or would it be just a simple 'come in'?
The grieving leader looked up from his emotionless stare at the dirt below his paws. His blue eyes widened a bit as if he knew Lightblaze was going to come. "W-What do you need Lightblaze?" Pebblestar asked in a dull expressionless tone taking his gaze back to the ground.
"I-I know who killed Plainfoot," Lightblaze choked out. He already knew this wasn't going to end well. Oh, StarClan, why did he even do this? What was he going to say?! Would Pebblestar kick him out of the clan?! Lightblaze started to feel a bit dizzy with thoughts of the future drowning him.
Pebblestar's breathing seemed to stop, but only for a slight moment. "Who?" the leader asked his fur starting to puff up a bit.
"Whisperstone killed him! I saw it! I swear to StarClan I'm not lying!" Lightblaze confessed. It felt so good to get that off his chest but the only reaction he got from Pebblestar was a slight chuckle.
Pebblestar turned his terrifying blue-eyed gaze to Lightblaze. "Do you think this is a joke? I knew you were going to tell me this nonsense," the leader mewed with a slight hiss at the end of his sentence.
"H-how?!" Lightblaze questioned now beginning to panic. How could Pebblestar have known... unless someone told Pebblestar that Lightblaze was going to say something?
"Whisperstone told me," Pebblestar growled shaking his head. "He came in right after the vigil to comfort me, right as he left he told me to expect you and your stories! Well guess what Lightblaze!? I don't believe it!" the black and blueish-gray leader hissed his gaze now piercing into Lightblaze's eyes furious.
Lightblaze didn't know what to do. A single tear slid down his creamy face and he dashed out of the den. The only cat who ever believed him, much less listened to him was Dewpaw.
