Chapter 4
Brambleclaw glanced around wearily. He was being watched, and he wanted to know who was whatching him and why.
Brambleclaw turned around, facing away from the den and towards the camp entrance. The wind that had been lightly blowing before had picked up and was now whipping Brambleclaw's fur. He narrowed his eyes, straining to see further and further. The sky seemed to have darkened slightly, and now a few drops of rain splattered the clearing.
Suddenly some movement at the camp entrance caught his eye. He crouched a bit lower and began to crawl towards the bramble tunnel. Once he was in the shelter of the tunnel and away from the wind, he strained to see, willing his eyes to adjust to the darkness. The storm brewing outside didn't help much with his light problem.
Just as this thought crossed his mind, he saw three pairs of eyes shining in the tunnels darkness, and his eyes widened in fright when a horrific set of laughter echoed down towards him.

Dovewing narrowed her eyes against the rain that had seem to come out of nowhere. Starclan must have finally realized how bad everything has gotten. Then she remembered. There is no Starclan anymore, she thought miserably. Her thoughts wandered as she sniffed the air for prey. Dovewing felt helpless without her powers. Yes, her powers were gone. After they had lost the great battle and all the spirit cats were killed, her powers had just disappeared. She was just at loss without her powers. Besides, she thought with a feeling of despair. I just want to know where Tigerheart is.
"Dovewing!" She heard someone mew. Dovewing gasped, her green eyes stretched wide as she turned around.
"Don't worry, it's just me." Cloudtail sighed in exasperation. "Just pay a little more attention. While you were dreaming about who knows what, you could have helped me catch a rabbit that had just got away."
Dovewing scuffled her paws in embarrassment. She felt like an apprentice all over again. "Sorry," she muttered quietly. She could understand why he was so upset about missing such easy prey. Now that they had to hunt for themselves as well as for the Island Prey rule, they were going to have to push themselves to the verge of exhaustion.
Cloudtail just sighed again and turned around, already sniffing for more prey.
As Dovewing followed in his wake, she tried to imagine Tigerheart's handsome eyes one last time.

Ivypool walked towards the river on the Windclan border. She wanted the to hear the water trickle again and she wanted to practice her swimming skills that she had learned in the Dark Forest. Besides, she wanted to think a bit about what had happened recently.
Ok, so a whole bunch of dead cats have taken over our land and they claim to be magical. They call themselves the Esoterics and also Hawkstar wants me to be his mate. Apparently it must happen because my kin could save us all. She stopped for a moment. "Yep," she said aloud. "That's about it."
"What's 'about it'," said a deep voice behind her. "And what are you doing at our border?"
Ivypool looked down to see that she was waist deep in the river that marked the Windclan and Thunderclan border. "Oops," she said softly. Ivypool looked up, her eyes wide and embarrassed. She tried her best to avoid his eyes. "Well, I can explain..." She offered.
"That's what I'm asking for. An explanation." He kept looking down at her sternly, but when he noticed who it was, his eyes softened. "I can let you off easy this time, Ivyp- I mean Ivy. But I don't want to see you here again."
"Besides," he said, his eyes glinting with mischief. "We wouldn't want the leader's mate get hurt, now would we?"
Ivypool sucked in a short gasp of air. she finally looked at the tom, straight into his eyes. "How do you know this, Breezepelt?" She spat out his name.
"Whoa, careful there. My name's Breeze now. And it was obvious. Hawkstar has liked you ever since he began training you in the Dark Forest! And you also liked him back, if I recall the times correctly."
Ivypool closed her eyes. She wasn't sure what she felt at the moment, but it definitely wasn't anything happy.
"So," he continued, narrowing his eyes. "When are you hoping to have your kits due?"
She knew what she felt now. Overwhelming anger. "You know what Breeze? You need a new look." And with those words, she promptly scratched him on the nose. As she stalked away, she felt his amber eyes boring into her grey fur, and she could only imagine the hatred that was flaring in them.

Lionblaze wearily padded into his den, his thoughts filled with nightmares. Oh, Starclan help me! He thought desperately. Then he pushed the thought away bitterly. What's the point in thinking this. They're all dead anyways. He rested his large mane onto his paws and he fell into a deep, restless sleep.
Little did he know, that his nightmare was just about to start.
