Hello Everyone!
We are here today with our fanfiction genre winner who is none other than, FlyingRedPanda, the author of the award-winning novel 'Mosaic'.
Q: So tell us something about yourself.
A: I see writing as an art form with language as the art medium. Words are the colours. Sentences are the tool marks. Grammar makes up the composition. The reader's imagination is the canvas.
Non-fiction would be photorealistic pieces, poetry would be abstract pieces and fiction would be something in between.
Seeing writing this way has completely changed the way I tell and look at stories.
Q: How were you introduced to Wattpad?
A: By a friend who knew my want to have a peek at what goes on in a reader's head when reading one of my stories
Knowing how people respond to what and what I'm trying to do is working or not, lets me improve my ability to pull the reader into the headspace of the characters. If I've managed to make you smile or hurt, I've done my job.
It's all trial and error, and the readers hold the results.
Q: What inspired you to write and when did you start writing?
A: I started writing at around 11 years old. It was something that my group of friends did. We all wrote. At around 12 to 13, I started my first novel, a piece of original work. I didn't fall in love with writing until about a 1/3 of the way through writing that book. Eventually, I started juggling fanfiction pieces while working on my original works. Though as of recent years, I've been more focused on my Bucky Barnes Fanfiction.
Q: Who would you say is your biggest inspiration as an author and why?
A: My best friend. She's the one who got me into writing and basically held my hand (edited everything, been my soundboard, spotted plot holes) for the last 14 years. I learned more about writing and grammar from her than school and Google combined.
Q: What books have influenced your life the most?
A: I don't nearly read enough as a writer. Find it rather hard to write and read at the same time. If I had to say a book, maybe the Monkey King stories. I grew up with that.
Q: How did you feel when 'Mosaic' won 1st place in Fanfiction?
A: Amazing! I'm glad that another person enjoys the story.
Q: What inspired you to write, 'Mosaic'?
A: My love for the character Bucky Barnes and what he has become in the story I've written. And my running away from my issues by burying myself into this story. Put the energy I would have wasted into some use.
Q: Are certain events in the story based on your own real-life experiences?
A: Little bits. A writer's story will always have parts of the writer in it. I'm not at all saying that the writer shares the same views as their characters, which can be used by the writer to force themselves, for a moment, to see the world in somebody else's eyes. I've twisted and mangled a few things in my stories to force myself to deal with issues I don't want to, and in doing so, I have been able to look at a situation that had happened to me in a different light.
Q: Give us a glimpse of your favourite part of the story without revealing much.
A: It's a tie between chapters 9 and 12. Chapter 9 for how it tugs at the heartstrings and Chapter 12 for the sweetness in it. But those chapters only have the emotional tugs due to the work done in previous chapters.
Q: What makes you like Bucky Barnes so much? Tell us about the main character.
A: I love the version of him that Sebastian Stan brought to life. All the transformations the character goes through, the sheer amount of both external and internal conflicts, those things make for an extremely fun character to write. And there's the fact that I don't write characters with a role or type in mind, it allows me a lot of freedom to play with rather than having to keep men brooding and girls pure.
Q: Is this your first story? If not, please tell us more.
A: Far from the first and likely far from the last, but this is my favourite so far and is one of the few works I wrote that is meant to be read.
Q: Where do you get your ideas to write stories from?
A: Best place, daydreaming in the shower. Dreams and conversations with my best friend spark a lot of ideas too.
Q: What is your greatest challenge as an author?
A: Getting into the reader's mind. I have beta readers who help make sure I give enough information for the reader to understand, even if they have to read between the lines at times. Sometimes, they have to drag me kicking and screaming, but eventually, we arrive at something readable.
Q: How has writing affected your life?
A: It's changed everything. I've learned things I've never would if I didn't have to do all the research for my stories. I got better grades, even if I was writing during my classes. It takes up so much of my time. It's probably the last thing I think about before I sleep and the first thing that pops into my mind when I wake. At this point, it's probably an addiction.
Q: Is there anything you would like to say to your readers/fans?
A: Thank you so much for reading my story and supporting it. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I do.
Q: What advise would you give to your fellow Wattpad authors?
A: Find your target audience and hope that they'd recommend you to others.
That's all for the questions.
Thank you so much for being here with us today to help satisfy all of our curiosity. It means a lot! We wish you all the success in becoming a very popular Wattpad Author.
