You sat idly in your college class, bored as the teacher went on about vasodilation and finishing coursework in the holidays. You'd given up listening ages ago, another thought possessing your mind: your evening with Klaus tonight. And how you were both going travelling in the holidays. Klaus, you smiled thinking about your hybrid boyfriend. He'd promised to take you on a picnic tonight underneath the stars.

Your phone vibrated in your pocket. Who was that? Hopefully Klaus...

"We need to talk. Now xoxo" Caroline.

"Sure, lecture's nearly over xx" you replied, gathering your stuff.

Exciting the lecture hall you bumped into the blonde vampire, she was standing right outside the door. Something really was wrong.

"Hey Y/N," she took your hand.

"Hey Caroline," you smiled.

"Oh my god, I have no clue where to start," Caroline said leading you outside, sitting you down on a bench. "I totally understand if you never-"

"Just get to the point Caroline," you laughed, setting your bag down.

"Klaus kissed me."

You sat blinking rapidly before taking a deep breath. Wow, you had not expected that. "When?"

"Two hours ago."

"Why?"

"I don't know but I swear I didn't respond I pushed him away." Caroline tucked a blonde lock of hair behind her ear. "Stefan was going to kill him."

You nodded, standing. You felt sick remembering the last time this had happened. Thunder storms and drenched kisses... Of course Stefan was angry, they were dating now.

"Y/N?" Caroline took your arm, dragging you out of your thoughts. "Say something, please."

"I'm going to lie down," you smiled, hugging her. You couldn't let her see how badly you were hurt, it wasn't fair on your best friend. She didn't deserve to feel guilty.

Caroline nodded, hugging you back.

It hadn't really sunk in yet. Klaus had cheated. On you. For real this time.

You walked slowly back to your dorm, your heart heavy. You were going to have to face him soon.

"Hello love, I thought I'd turn up early to spend more time together." The blond haired devil stood before you in the hallway of the living quarters. Or face him now.

"Okay," you nodded.

"Love, what's wrong?" Klaus' smile instantly disappeared.

"You kissed her! You kissed my best friend!" You shouted, pushing past him and walking towards your dorm.

"Love-"

"Don't you dare 'love' me, Klaus," you snapped, slamming your dorm door in his face. "Go choke on a sandwich at your stupid little picnic tonight!"

"Please Y/N don't do this," his voice pleaded through the door. "Love, I can explain."

"I'm not wasting my time listening to your explanations, go away," you fell backwards onto your bed. "And Klaus?"

"Yes Y/N?" His voice was timid behind the door, only a few steps away, quiet for the powerful man stood there.

"Go to New Orleans and never come back." The words left your mouth before you could stop them. Angry words which you instantly regretted, but good, because the idiot deserved to be hurt, as hurt as you were. Klaus the idiotic hybrid who had double crossed you: a human who could hurt him with words.

You thought you heard a growl from behind the door before angry footsteps echoed down the hall. The tears fell then, fast and warm on your cheeks as you buried your head in the sheets.

Holiday. Caroline had invited you to come to Mystic Falls for the holidays and stay in the Salvatore Boarding house. It would get you out and distract you. Distractions are good, you chanted over and over again in your head whilst zipping your suitcase shut.

The wheels were loud against the floor as you made your way to the car park. Mystic falls was a Klaus free zone. Which was good you tried to convince yourself tucking a lock of hair behind your ear.

Elena stood next to her car, waiting for you. "Y/N! Over here!"

You smiled, running over to her and embracing her in a hug. "Hey Elena."

"How you holding up?" She held your arms, looking you up and down.

"I'm fine, mum," you laughed, although it didn't quite sound convincing.

"We'll stop by Macdonalds on the way home to cheer you up," Elena smiled, taking your stuff.

"Sure," you nodded, getting into the passenger seat.

"So, any ideas for the holidays?" The car purred as Elena reversed it out of the space.

"Distractions, lots of distractions," you clasped your hands in your lap.

"Okay, there's one thing you should know before we get going," Elena accelerates as we get onto the road.

"What?" You brace yourself for more bad news.

"Klaus, he's staying in Mystic Falls for the holidays," Elena sighed. "I'm sorry Y/N."

"Who?" You glanced out of the window. "I'm not sure I know of a person that exists called Klaus." Your voice shook ever so slightly on his name but you made it.

"Operation silent treatment?" Elena speedily overtook a car.

"Begins now," you smirked, placing your sunglasses on your nose. "It's my turn to play the bad guy now."

You sat eating your Big Mac whilst Elena called Caroline to explain what you were doing and that you were okay.

"Fancy seeing you here love."

You glanced up from your burger to meet the blue gaze of Klaus. Brilliant.

You looked back down.

"I'm just on my way to Mystic Falls. You?" Unfortunately I am too.

A few minutes passed. Hurt, his gaze was hurt as you snuck a glance at him.

"I see love." The chair scrapped backwards. His leather jacket retreated out of the fast food restaurant, shoulders slumped.

You set your burger down no longer hungry. This was going to be harder than you thought. A lot harder.

"Hey human," Damon smirked, opening the door to the boarding house.

"Hey vampire," you smiled back.

"We can egg his house if you want," Damon took the suitcase from your hands.

"That actually sounds good, when do we start?" You asked.

"I happened to go shopping this morning for eggs," Damon put your suitcase down in the living room. "We can go now. Teach the evil Original a lesson. I've been waiting for an excuse to egg his house."

"Sounds good," you shrug, laughing.

"Cheer up Jesus, you're bringing the whole place down," Damon mock punched your shoulder before speeding into the kitchen and back with a two cartons of eggs.

"Be careful," Elena quickly kissed Damon before hugging me.

The drive was short and all too soon you were outside the Originals mansion. You excited the car, opening the first carton. SPLAT.

Right on the front door.

A laugh escaped your lips as the yolk slid down the oak.

Another egg hit a window. All too soon 23 eggs decorated the mansion. Whoops.

One egg left.

The door opened.

"In the car now!" Damon bolted into the drivers seat.

The egg left your hand.

The car door slammed behind you.

SPLAT.

A yolk decorated the dirty blond hair of the Original hybrid.

"Oops," you laughed as Damon sped away. But it was too late, he'd seen you. His blue eyes shocked. It hurt you as much it hurt him.

Everyone was with their respective partner in the Salvatore boarding house whilst you trudged through puddles in the woods. The soft patter of the rain was oddly calming and distracting.

"Hey, why did you leave?" Caroline walked next to you, her eyes watching you carefully.

"I just wanted some alone time," you shrugged. "Plus you were all so happy together and I was..." You stumbled over a twig, swallowing the lump in your throat.

"Hey, it's okay," Caroline took your hand.

"It was okay." The voice was raspy and make behind you both.

Caroline flew a few feet forward.

Another vampire stood where Caroline had, fangs extended and veins prominent in his eyes.

"Ummm... Can I help you?" You stuttered.

"My dear, you're going to die," the vampire smiled, hand brushing your face. "This is the only way we can hurt Klaus."

"No!"

The vampire lay at your feet. 

Blue eyes frantically searched your face. "Y/N, love are you okay?"

You nodded, stepping backwards.

Caroline stood by your side, glaring at Klaus. "Leave."

"Caroline she almost died, I need to make sure she-"

"She's a mess as it is because of you Klaus, leave now," Caroline stepped between you, fangs extending.

"That's not your decision, let me speak to her alone," Klaus peered around Caroline at you.

"Caroline, it's fine," you nodded.

"Love, I'm sorry for what just happened-"

"You're the reason I almost died," you whispered, your silence only broken momentarily.

"Y/N..." Klaus' hands held your face.

You stood stock still. You couldn't say anymore, not yet.

"I'm so sorry for what I've done, I'll never leave your side I promise," Klaus moved closer to you.

You stepped back "No." You walked past Caroline heading towards the house. You couldn't do this anymore. You heard Klaus muffle a groan before you heard him speed off into the woods.

Your bed was warm and comforting as you face planted it. You needed to sleep, to forget. The tears slowly bleeding into the fabric.

"Someone's walking up the drive," Stefan announced, rising from his seat.

"Brilliant," Damon rolled his eyes from his seat with Elena.

The door opened and then closed. Elijah and Rebekah walking into the living room. Another pair of footsteps stopped just before the door. 

Elijah smiled at you before addressing the entire group "We're here to talk, our brother is inconsolable  and quiet. He wants to talk to all of you, except you Y/N, he cannot bear to see you."

You nodded, dropping your magazine on the table.

Caroline stood "Y/N-"

"It's fine, tell me the details later," you smiled weakly, walking out of your room.

Klaus stood to your left, silent. His eyes were bloodshot and his face somehow looked thinner. You looked away, walking faster to the end of the hall.

Klaus entered the living room then, the door shutting softly behind him. Your footsteps were quiet as you crouched by the door, listening.

"So you turn up and cause Y/N more pain?" Caroline sounded annoyed .

"I tried to tell him that," Rebekah agreed.

"I was not thinking about myself when I did what I did," Klaus snapped. 

"Who were you thinking about then Klaus?" Elijah's voice rose slightly. "That poor girl loved you, after everything you did. Everything you've done she loved you. And you treat her like that, the one person who can see past the monster that you are."

"I was thinking about her," Klaus' voice moved closer to you. 

"You broke her heart," Elena spoke then.

"I did not mean to break Y/N's heart," Klaus spoke softly, he sounded nothing like the powerful original hybrid he was supposed to be. "I had no idea the result would be so catastrophic, so-"

"What results did you expect?" Elijah shouted. "That she wouldn't find out! That she wouldn't react the way she did!"

"I thought you couldn't fall any further," Rebekah sighed.

"I'm trying to explain-"

"Explain what?!" Rebekah yelled. "You broke Y/N's heart, even Kol wouldn't do that. Hell, none of us would do that!"

"I don't love Caroline, just because I kissed her. She's a vampire, she can be broken and well Y/N she can. And I can't live without her," Klaus didn't shout at all. "A group of vampires want to make me suffer and they were going to kill Y/N so I kissed Caroline so that they would go after her. I know she can look after herself. I swear I never intended to hurt Y/N I was trying... And I failed, to protect her."

You moved away from the door, tears threatening to fall down your cheeks. So he did have an explanation... And you hadn't listened. You'd ignored him.

The door was left open behind you as you ran for the woods, you had to getaway from it all. Your back slammed into a tree. A hand around your throat.

"He's so weak without you..." The vampire laughed. "I wonder what it will do to him when I kill you."

You couldn't breath then. His hand crushed your throat, air gone. 

Crack. The vampire dropped to your feet, neck broken. 

"Y/N, I'm so so sorry," Klaus pulled you into his arms, head resting on top of yours.

You cried into his chest, pulling him close. You caved in then, you couldn't live without Klaus, you knew that. "Klaus," you mumbled.

" Y/N, love I'll never leave you alone again," Klaus kissed your forehead. "I love you."

"I love you too Klaus," you whispered, reaching up and kissing him.
