Chapter 22
" Viva!"
" Poppy!"
Running across the golden sand the older Queen beamed with joy. Her now twenty-three baby sister bolted towards her too ready to meet her long lost relative in the middle of the beach in front of Brandy and Bruce's restaurant. The two embraced hugging to celebrate their second reunion. Due to Poppy being shorter Viva rested her chin on her head partly.
Just like Viva Poppy had grown into herself and her body. The pink troll's tied in ponytail hair had naturally changed from fuchsia into hot pink and her glittery freckles had become more pronounced. Poppy's leg warmers and current dress both matched in their blue, teal and green colour scheme and were knitted.
Crochet blue flowers and green leaves were sewed into the bottom of the skirt resulting in a meadow vibe. The first row at the top was small but, the rest grew bigger by a centimeter or two the further you moved on the next row. In total the fading from blue into the teal skirt had four flowered rows with long leaves pointing to the ground. The crown on her head was simple with a crocheted band and pom poms in front of the felt leaves.
" Oh My God! I missed you so much!" Poppy squealed pulling away.
" I missed you so much too! It felt like we were apart for forever again. Longest week ever!" Viva said.
" I know. It was the worst!" Poppy declared jokingly.
Being more of a slow walker Clay smiled as he approached his wife and sister in law. Seeing the two women click and be connected again so fast was heart warming. It was almost giving the impression that they were never separated in the first place. Despite the twenty years of not being in each other's lives they were still loving. Maybe Clay could have his own version of it too if he tried hard enough to make it work. Floyd and Bruce were all who he had left from his original family as far as he knew and Clay had learnt to accept it.
" Hey Poppy." Clay inserted his hands in his pockets.
" Hi Clay. It's so great to see you again too. Here for your brothers?" Poppy greeted.
" I am. Kinda nervous. Twenty is a long time to not stay in touch." Clay scratched the back of his head.
" They're your family,Clay. Bet they are so hyped up to see you again. They're gonna love ya to bits." Poppy hyped up.
The pink troll operated on a similar way of thinking to his wife but, was more optimistic and the most friend making focused. Despite being told the story of how Poppy managed to befriend their enemies that put them on plate, it was still hard to believe or follow the train of thought of turning foes into friends. Even Viva was personally not that forgiving until the good Bergens in question proved that they were not threats and that they changed their ways. King Gristle Jr and Bridget were lucky Poppy stepped in with scrapbook proof.
Poppy gasped in delight. " Are those matching bracelets?"
She pointed to the marriage jewellery around Clay and Viva's wrists. Lifting up his lower arm up to gaze upon the bracelet Clay's eyes scanned the design. Viva grinned nodding her head happier now that her sister had noticed. The couple had only been wearing their marriage bracelets for three days now. They had gotten married the same day as the proposal courtroom style privately then announced to Putt Putt Village the next day. Viva and Clay were so wrapped up in finally tying the knot that they had forgotten to breathe and let things settle in. However they still had no regrets.
" Clay gave me this little number three days ago. I beat him to proposing. He gave me mine after I popped the question with his one." Viva chimed giddy.
" Oh that's amazing!" Poppy paused. " What question?"
" Will you marry me?" Clay answered.
" And he said yes obv. " Viva beamed.
Poppy's jaw dropped. " You're Engaged?!"
" Oh we skipped that. Got married that night after celebrating all afternoon. Clay changed his last name to our family's name. We're doing the wedding later." Viva took Poppy's hands into hers. "Will you be my maid of honour?"
The life update bombshell had Poppy in a stand still as she tried to process everything. First Viva proposed to Clay with a bracelet instead of a ring then they got married and were going to be planning their wedding. Clay was not just her big sister's boyfriend. He was her brother-in-law. She had a brother. She was related to Brozone now. Viva wanted her to be her maid of honour. Eventually snapping out of her daze Poppy blinked readjusting one of her leg warmers. One of them was sliding down to her ankle.
" Oh. OH! That's... That's just- WOW! Congratulations! Yes! I will be your maid of honour. I will be the best maid of honour you could ever wish for." Poppy clapped her hands together.
" Eee! You be the best for sure. Come join us. Clay's fam is mine and yours now too. One big family reunion. " Viva let go of Poppy and tilted her head to the side. " Well minus Dad though. We can include him next time."
" Really? You sure?" Poppy turned to her brother-in-law. " Clay?"
Clay paused for a bit then shrugged with a smile. " Why not? Welcome to the family I guess."
The morning transitioned into the afternoon and so did the noon rush. The restaurant had entered its slow part of the day. Only a handful of customers stayed longer talking away and chilling in the pools. The wait staff were taking it easy. Upstairs Brandy and Bruce had moved their family reunion with Bruce's side to their home to have a more personal environment. Their children ran around giggling and playing in the living room with a kids movie playing the TV while the adults settled in the kitchen.
On the extendable and long dining table was a white table cloth with cherries and red dots as the print. A glass jug of pineapple punch, charcuterie board and shot glasses with straws for the trolls stood charmingly near the group. Bruce, Clay, Viva, Poppy and Floyd stood on the table while Brandy sat at the end of said table next to them.
" I go by Bruce now." Bruce informed.
"Bruce. Sounds like someone got fancy. I get it." Clay joked.
" Look who's talking. Is that a sweater romper?" Bruce chuckled.
" What can I say? Gotta flex the drip. Seems like you and Floyd are following that memo too. " Clay complimented.
" Oh these are just my everyday. " Bruce brushed off.
" Just trying to spice up my everyday outfit too." Floyd admitted.
" Suits you both. So what you guys been up to?" Clay took a piece of cheese.
Viva and Poppy drifted towards Brandy more naturally. Something about her was simply an irresistible vibe. Pouring the two trolls women a refill of punch Poppy grabbed her straw while Viva kept chatting away. In Viva's hand was a broken half of a round salted cracker.
" I love your bun. Did you do it yourself? If you do you gotta teach me your secret cause, girl! It's so cute. "
Brandy put down the jug. "Oh it's a trick my mom taught me and my sisters. You gotta use some sort of stick, hair tie and my addition of a hair scarf is optional. I'll show you, ladies, tomorrow morning. There's a lot of twisting. "
" Booked in by me." Poppy stated.
" Same. " Viva agreed.
Taking a sip of her drink Poppy drank just a little off the top. Viva on the other hand bit into her cracker eating away at the snack. Clay remained focused on his brothers hoping to secure their reconnection. Floyd took one of the grapes from the charcuterie board and ate a small bite out of it. Bruce patted Clay on the shoulder happy to have him back.
" Well after me and Brandy got married we started a business partnership too. Directly after the honeymoon. We bought this whole building with some help from Brandy's folks and BOOM! Opened the restaurant officially after having our eldest son,Holly. Brandy's siblings visit us a lot. The kids love them." Bruce removed his hand.
" That's neat. Never saw you much of a family man before but, it suits ya. It's like you're in your element." Clay acknowledged. " What about you,Floyd?"
" I moved to a place called Mount Rageous and became a music teacher. I mostly teach singing. The pay is alright. Could be better but, I have no complaints. My current two main students' parents are making sure their twins get the best and apparently that's me. Velvet and Veneer aren't so bad once you get to know them. I'm focusing on my career rather than dating right now." Floyd explained.
" A teacher,huh?" Clay said.
" Yeah. I tried for a solo artist at best but, after a while I needed a change so I went to study to be a teacher and I'm happier now." Floyd added.
Clay nodded his head understandingly. Life was unpredictable and change was unavoidable. In Floyd's experience it took him some time to figure himself out and what he wanted to be. Considering how long trolls lifespans were there was plenty of time to explore and right now he liked where he was. Clay and Bruce respected that about Floyd. After all everyone was on their own paths of navigating life.
" What about you,Clay Boy?" Bruce asked
" Well I became a licensed CPA and I co run Putt Putt Village with Viva. She does all the fun stuff while I handle the boring. And me and her got married three days ago. We didn't have a wedding. That's for later. " Clay said.
Bruce's eyes widened. " Oh I didn't realize since you two had no rings. Regardless congratulations,Bro. Viva is a delightful hurricane. Looks like we got another Mrs Timberlake." He joked.
Brandy grinned. " Oh! That's wonderful. Congrats. "
" Congrats. I'm happy for you and Viva. How did you propose?" Floyd expressed.
Viva smirked. " Actually I proposed with that marriage bracelet around his wrist. I beat him to it. Turns out we were both planning on proposing."
" It's true. I was so nervous that I kept backing out before I even started. Then Viva surprised me with the best lunch she could whip up. She had pulled me out of my office to our place. Next thing I knew she got down on one knee holding my bracelet box open with it inside and asked me to marry her. That's when I admitted I had one for her too so I did say "Yes." Clay spoke as Viva watched and listened to him adoringly.
" Now he's a Kendrick and my King officially. " Viva kissed Clay's cheek.
The newly weds' display earned a series of adoring awe. Floyd looked down at the bracelets noticing how similar they were. The only difference was the diamond charm shapes which did show that neither knew what the other was planning. Or else their charms would be more matching in shape or theme. Regardless they were beautiful and unique. Brandy and Bruce turned to each still grinning ear to ear. Fond memories of their wedding day and being newly weds themselves entered their minds.
" Your marriage jewellery is lovely. " Floyd complimented.
" Aww. Thanks. Kinda missed the opportunity with the charm. A star and a moon. Would have made the fact we picked the same bands more interesting but, honestly I do like the one I picked. " Viva said.
" Well I like the pear too. It's imperfectly perfect. I don't care what my jewellery looks like. Not much of a jewellery person. I love it cause it was from you." Clay insisted.
" Aww. You're the cutest couple ever!" Poppy complimented.
" Now me and Brandy know who exactly to share a double date with. Viva and Clay. Cliva." Bruce teased.
" Oh shut up. Don't ship name drop us." Clay said embarrassed.
