Conference and complications
9AM in Dragnof meant for the common people that work was already going on since 7 in the morning, for a few others on the other hand work never ends or there is just a little time in between called sleep, even if they stand up later then others. One such person was Y/n as he took up the majority of the work for the kingdom, helping his two wives to not overwork and put unnecessary stress on the unborn babies.
A hefty sigh escaped his lips while he walked to the doors of the conference room. "I'm really surprised these idiots in there didn't stab each other in the back already, they say one thing while doing the other and I have to fix their stupidity afterwards." He groaned but was stopped by a hand belonging to Erza that she placed on his shoulder. "Y/n, remember we are there with you in the hearings of the house of commons, they give their ideas and concerns then we have to talk about them. Its not for nothing that this political system is deemed one of the best, a full democracy without a clear long living leader cannot last and does damage we do not know of in the long run." Erza spoke slowly and Irene next to her nodded happily.
Irene smiled pleased while she was walking along them. "I see that you've been reading the book I gave you, giving the power to the people might be a good idea at the begin but having a shift in political power every few years doesn't mean it will always work out well. If one party is failing the next can come and fix the problem of the one before, it doesn't work that well when you have someone who destroys your country before you and you are left with fixing his damage while everyone thinks you did it. It's flawed in the end and that's why there should always be a primary leader who's looking at the whole instead of just the 4 years he has, this is one of the reasons democracies don't work out that well in the long run. You cannot have long term goals if every 4 years someone else is in power. Their ideas will always sway from the other party's." Irene spoke and counted something on her hands. "I can count on my fingers how many countries failed that way and ended up with monarchy again." She added with a deep sigh.
Y/n looked at the door and opened it, revealing the dozen officials sitting around the table and the three empty seats at the top of it. The three seats represented the family, the strongest bond there can be, traditionaly Dragnof it is composed by the father the mother and the child, in the current royal family it is two mothers and a father.
The men all stood up and bowed as they noticed the royal family enter the room. Their faces were more then tense as they knew of the power in the hands of the three mages. Even tough Irene and Erza had quite the developed pregnancy they could still pack a punch with teir magic. "Welcome your highness, we are already talking about what we need to do in order to make the life of the citizens better." The bank owner said.
Y/n raised his hand making everyone flinch. "That's enough out of your mouth." He spoke harshly while sitting down while Irene and Erza took their respective seats next to him. "As you all know my wife decided to give me the primary power as the ruler of Dragnof, which does not mean much more then before but I'm now the head of this and all questions regarding our futures kingdom have to be addressed to me. Is there anyone who's against it." He asked and everyone shook their heads. His eyes went over each of the men while keeping a stoic face. "Good now as first I'd like to discuss the possibility of a war with neighboring kingdoms, as you might have noticed Irene had refitted every guard in the city with the kingdoms original military garb and the palace guards got their own one, the weapons are also from the dragon war which took place 400 years ago." He said and general Balius then rasped. "My lord, our troops are not enough to withstand an all out attack from one of the kingdoms, that is if we only count our current soldiers, if I can make a suggestion then we should get in more soldiers." He said and Y/n was silent.
"What do you think Irene, I mean we should seriously increase the number of our soldiers, a few thousand aren't going to hold and entire army of several thousand to even 100 thousand." He said and Irene then shrugged. "You are the first in command now, I'm just your wife who's job is to bare your child, but I'm also ready to give ideas if needed." Shee said and then Erza let out a sigh. "She means that you have to think Y/n, when you weren't listening she said to me to not help you on this one as you have to do it on your own." Erza spoke and then grabbed his hand gently while the other went to her quite large belly. "Remember you said we should concentrate on our babies and leave the worries to you." She smiled happily.
Y/n groaned in defeat. "I think I got it, we cannot risk taking away people from the working class, it would damage our economy to put every male into active service but what we could do is selective service, every man who's an adult automatically is going to be registered for a possible draft if a war ever happens, they will each receive basic training, weapons and armor, the women and remaining men will have to shoulder the weight of the missing men by working the fields and ensure we have enough food for the entire army and for the citizens of the kingdom to not end up with a hunger crisis." He said and Irene couldn't help the proud smile on her lips.
"What about if we face something that isn't an army yet brings death to our door, 50 years ago we faced a deadly sickness that took a heavy tool on our kingdom." The headmaster of Dragnofs monastery spoke concerned.
Y/n had to think for a moment but he sighed. "I do not know how we can solve it but I do know we should do everything in order to stop the spread of such a sickness." He said and then Irene's lips curled up.
"Dear I'm going to assist you on this." She spoke softly and sat up straight on the seat, her hands grabbing the corner of the arm chair while she made a pause in her talking. "How do you stop the spread from information with the voice, by not letting people talk with each other or near each other." She said and something clicked in Y/n's head as his eyes widened.
"Thank you Irene, I just got how, we need to prevent contact between people as much as possible." He said and everyone gave him a shocked look. "By not allowing the contact to each other or between people of different parts of our town I truly believe we can stop the spread if it ever happens but the citizens should know of this, or else they could think we want to take away their liberty which is one of the most important for a person, by deviding our city in different blocks we restrict the spread into those places, hopefully without making the citizens feel trapped." He said with a serious face.
. . .
Silence was everything that filled the air while Erza was quietly observing a dress in front of her. She puffed her cheeks in boredom while resting her chin on her hand. The princess of Dragnof had been in a bad mood from the morning and every noise that exceeded the usual talking was making her angry. "Princess is there something you don't like about it?" Juliet asked in wonder and Erza just let out a bored sigh. "It's nothing to worry about, really. I've just been thinking about all this." She motioned up and down on herself. "I'm m not used to wear fancy dresses and behave so perfect to look like an absolute pure princess. It was hard to learn all the table manners and court behavior, of course I was not bound to them as the royal princess but it still felt tiring to follow them." She said and sighed again. "I just feel bored and I can't leave this place out of my mothers paranoia and Y/n's protectiveness, besides I have not just you on my heel but I feel like I'm being watched every move by Belserion himself." She spoke and looked out the window in one sharp movement. She walked to the window slowly and struggled to bend down due to her pregnancy. "I know he's out there somewhere looking right at this window, mother said dragons can see tiny finger sized objects from several miles away." She added and Juliet smiled nodding.
"That is true Princess Erza, dragons can see very well and also smell extremely well as I know her majesty who had been turned into a dragon and got her curse cured smelled a fresh pie on the opposite side of the town." Juliet spoke happily and Erza then stood up.
"I'd like to see my husband if it isn't a problem." Erza stated and turned towards the door, ready to leave. Juliet's silence annoyed her lightly as that always meant something wasn't to her liking. "Princess I'm not sure if that's a good idea, Y/n is in a conversation with ambassador Var Attre from Minstrel who came to talk for possible interests." Juliet spoke and Erza just snorted in response while walking out the room and Juliet ran after her quickly.
The duo walked through the corridors of the palace searching for the king but he wasn't in the throne room and neither in the conference room like in the morning. "Where is he?" Erza asked in concern while Juliet tried to calm her down. "I'm sure we will find him, princess." She spoke reassuringly.
Erza crossed her arms in front of her and stopped walking making Juliet turn around and raise an eyebrow in wonder. She could see in Erza's face that she was unwell about something. She could feel the hesitant aura of the usually straightforward princes. "Juliet, the reason why I want to be with Y/n is because I feel vulnerable and scared." She spoke with a jittering voice while rubbing the sides of her upper arms.
Juliet could only look at Erza with pity as she knew how ragged her emotions were right now, she was an emotional mess just like her mother who was found crying under the cherry tree in the palace park after the conference with the most important of the Dragnof kingdom.
"I'm giving your king a fair warning Var Attre, if he is doing anything that just looks like a possible attack on my kingdoms borders I wont hesitate to send out my army." A serious voice broke through the air and both women looked into the direction it came from.
A few seconds later they could see Y/n and the ambassador talking near the fountain in the palace garden as they walked towards them.
Both men stopped talking and Erza approached her husband while keeping her eyes locked on his. "Y/n why didn't you take me with you." She asked and leaned her head onto his chest, taking him by surprise at seeing her so soft.
His hands slowly went around her back and started to gently cares her back comforting her. He looked up to Juliet and motioned for her to take the ambassador inside. "We'll resume our talk later Var Attre." He spoke quickly and waited a few seconds before slowly stepping back and hearing his wife let out a little hitched sound like she was scared.
He cupped her face with gentleness lifting it up and looked right into her eyes that started to see tears forming slowly. "Why do you always make me worry." She whispered and he smiled forlornly. "I don't know, I just want to keep you away from harm as much as possible." He spoke gently and she shook her head in disapproval while closing her eyes and let out a sob.
"I want to be with you no mater what, I feel vulnerable and lonely without you Y/n." She spoke and grabbed him by his upper arms making him feel how she was shaking in fear and how cold her hands were.
She didn't even have to say it as her expression was more then enough to reveal it, those wide open eyes of hers already told him. "I wont leave you ever, I'm sorry if I neglected you." He replied and she nodded while looking up. "Promise me."
"I promise." He spoke and connected her lips with his by leaning down to her and gently pulling her up by the chin. She felt an instant heat surge inside of her filling the cold of her body as his warm lips relished in the sweet kiss and hands began to roam her body, hungrily consuming her curves and stopped right at the top of her belly.
Erza slowly leaned down towards the ground with Y/n on top not going away and resumed to kiss each other, completely enthralled in each other embrace. His hands rested on her chest squeezing her bosom lightly while hers expertly opened the gown he wore as king of this kingdom letting her feel even more of his warmth as he pressed down onto her getting a soft moan of her lips which made him smirk in victory.
The need for air grew bigger and both separated with soft panting noises of each other, still looking breathlessly into each others eyes.
His fingers slowly moved down of her cheek leaving only the faint warmth of his touch. "Thank you." She whispered and he helped her up slowly.
They both sat down on a nearby stone bench holding hands and enjoying the company. Erza leaned her head on his shoulder and smiled softly. "Mother told me that in her time it was quite common for one man having more then one woman at his side but I wonder why?" Erza spoke and Y/n thought for a bit.
"If I had to guess it has to do with the mortality, women in the past had a higher risk of death during labor then they do now and men wanted to spread their genes as far as they could so that's maybe why." He replied and Erza looked up to him. "But that wasn't the case everywhere right?" She asked and he nodded again. "You are right, the kingdoms around Dragnof mostly had monogamy just like Dragnof does now." He added and she smiled again leaning into his chest.
He placed his hand on her belly and felt a light kick on his hand making Erza giggle as she saw his shocked face. "Looks like someone is excited to meet its father." She said and looked down happily to her belly. "What do you think its going to be?" She asked looking at him curious.
"I don't know but I hope its going to be both one boy or girl and not two times the same." He replied and placed his hand again gently on her large bump.
"Here you are guys." An Exceeds voice broke through and Rose landed on Y/n's lap. "Hey Rose where have you been I thought you were sleeping in your bed." Y/n spoke and the exceed smiled. "I was with lady Irene talking about how we decorate the rooms for the soon to come babies."
Erza gasped in shock. "I've completely forgotten about that, Y/n we need to go and see her." She pointed out and stood up walking away.
"You heard her." Rose exclaimed and Y/n sighed smiling softly standing up and walking behind his pregnant wife.
A guard stopped the two while saluting. "Princess Erza, your majesty, Queen Irene wants you to meet her at the south side of the palace park, I'll bring you there from Irene's orders." He exclaimed and the two followed.
. . .
Irene Pov
I clutched my hands tightly together feeling the Flower bouquet in my hands while walking over the gravel path in the palace garden, it was right around midday, it should be warm but a cold wind made me shiver and worsen the state I was in already.
I came to a stop as I reached the place I wanted to be at. Slow tears formed on my eyes as I read the names.
"Elisabeth L Dragnof, loving mother and merciful queen loved by her people, feared by foes."
"Franz Dragnof, loving father and great king to the people of Dragnof feared by his enemies that ran away from his blood soaked axe."
I sobbed softly while examining the grave whipping the tears away. It was a monument made out of marble on its base was a patch of flowers right under the plaque and above those their favorite things carved into the stone, a large battle axe belonging to my father as a sign of his many battles and power.
A book signalizing wisdom and knowledge belonging to my mother as she often read very complicated books to learn more about history, humans and how to handle hard times, she rarely fought battles like my father but when she did she wasn't just throwing her soldiers into battle she thought with my father how they could win with ease. Her magic was like mine enchant but she was far more graceful at using it then I was.
"Mom, dad. I don't know if you can hear me but I'm so sorry for what had happened, I was able to pull myself together and get over my problem. I couldn't keep the promise I had done to Belserion, to win and live with the dragons in peace." I said and then fiddled around with my thumbs.
I felt more and more tears come. Their death was horrible when it happened, I witnessed it first hand, both murdered in cold blood with knifes sticking out of their bodies murdered by assassins hired by some rich person who wanted power, the guards took those men in and I was promptly given the authority of the ruler with Belserion helping me find the one who did it and when I did he was tortured until death.
I still can hear my mothers words when I ran towards her, she was still alive when the guards took those men. She told me to always look for the good in people and be a ruler that was loved like I was from her. Those were her last words and then she died right in my arms.
I heard footsteps behind me and a familiar voice. "Irene why did you want us to come here?" Y/n asked. I turned to him with my face filled with tears. I wasn't able to get a single word out.
He noticed the flowers in my hands and two names written on the plaque. His expression went from curious to sad. He walked closer in silence with Erza next to him looking at me with compassion. "Is this your parents grave?" He stated and he only got a silent nod from me.
He took the flowers and gave Erza and me a bundle splitting the bouquet in three. "I'm sure your parents would be happy of what you became now, just look at you Irene, you are the queen of a kingdom you have a beautiful daughter a handsome husband and you are expecting your second child, you can't be more lucky." He spoke softly and placed down the flowers on the stone.
"Wait I can feel some weird magic here." Erza stated and then gasped. "This feels like residual magic!"
I gave Erza a confused look. "Residual magic, what do you mean with that?" I asked and Erza smiled gleefully.
"Its magic that remains here after the being who uses it dies, its always going to be with the remains of said being and some mages can use it to talk with the dead." She spoke and I was shocked by it.
"Now that you mention it I think there was something I learned a while ago about residual magic, I never bothered to go deeper into it but do you know someone who can use it?" I asked and placed a hand on my hip.
She nodded happily. "Sure, Wendy does, she can use a spell called Milky way and used it to talk with dragons." Erza replied.
"Do you think we should call her? I believe she is in town for a request." Y/n said placing a hand on my under arm and gently pulling me to him for a comforting hug as I was still dropping tears.
. . .
The town of Dragnof was filled with people going their merry way in the evening, now after the return of the royal family its economy was slowly rising again and everyone was now working to support the legendary queen who looks out for her people, everyone had the possibility to talk to her about problems in the city or could write a letter for it, she had made two hours each day solely for public speaking at her palace that every citizen could attend.
In the middle of all the ruckus was non other then Fairy Tails youngest member Wendy Marvell walking in the city with wide open eyes looking at everything in amazement. "Look Carla they sell candy as big as me." Wendy spoke excited and the exceed just rolled her eyes. "Do you really want to blow your freshly earned jewel out for something so silly. We just finished the request in this town."
Wendy pouted lightly but gave a big smile right after. "I mean you are right Carla, I need to start setting aside some money like Natsu-san or else how am I going to pay of the rent each month at Fairy Hills." She replied and tucked away the bag of Jewel in her backpack.
Carla giggled softly. "Those two hardly get to set aside any money as they mostly throw it out for food or don't get paid for destroying half the town and I hope you wont take an unhealthy obsession with his behavior and copy it." She replied and looked sternly at Wendy who shook her head swiftly. "I wont, I want to be like Erza san." She replied embarrassed.
The two walked through the market place that was filled with booths selling all kinds of savory goods making Wendy pretty much drool at the sight but she composed herself as best as she could.
She noticed guards looking around and talk with people making her curious. "Do you think they are searching for someone." Carla asked and Wendy mused for a second. "I can't understand what they are saying but I guess they are looking for someone, maybe a missing person or a thief." She replied.
A hand was laid on Wendy's shoulder startling her. "I've found her, now we need to bring her to the queen." A guard spoke and Wendy tensed up turning around. "Wait I've done nothing wrong here, I'm a mage of the Fairy Tail guild and adopted daughter of the queen. "She panicked.
The guard raised an eyebrow at her. "We were tasked to find you young lady as the queen herself needs something from you, so would you be so kind and accompany us to the palace garden." He said and then smirked. "We could also put some cuffs onto you if you are opposing the orders of the queen." He added and she shook her head. "I'm coming with you." She replied and walked in between the two guards.
Wendy marvelled at the sight of the palace garden, the perfectly cut bushes and colorful flowers made her drop her mouth in amazement. #
She could see Irene wait near a monument and walked close to her but one look on the marble made her happy face drop to a more genuine sad one. "I didn't know your parents are buried here Irene san." She whispered and Irene looked to her with a small smile.
She placed a hand on the girls shoulder and gazed into her eyes. "Its ok Wendy but I want something from you, use miky way, the spell Erza told me about can use the residual magic of a being and have it talk to you." She asked and Wendy gave her a firm look. "I can do that Irene for sure." She said and started to draw the circle.
Y/n walked close to Irene and she looked at him smiling softly. "You know I could ask Alphas to bring your parents back to life if you want." He stated with a sombre tone.
She shook her head softly. Irene didn't want to disturb her parents death as she knew bringing them back could cause severe shock in the citizens and could cause issues. "You shouldn't do it Y/n, if the citizens get a word of your power or of Alphas power then I do not know what could happen but I think people would constantly ask you to bring back their dead relatives." She replied and he frowned. "I unterstand Irene, you don't want to disturb their sleep." He said and she nodded slowly.
Wendy stood back up and raised her hands. "I'm not sure if it works on humans like it does on Dragons but lets try, milky way." She yelled and a green light started to form around her.
In front of the group two spirits started to form revealing a tall bearded man with a scar running along his chin clothes with bear pelt and a woman with scarlet hair an elegant gown and gorgeous smile with killer eyes, Irenes mother had shocking resemblance to Erza herself with exception of the hair going down as far as Irene's.
Irene kept silent for several seconds but the shaking of her hands and bibbering lips showed how much she was actually shocked to see her parents right here. "Mom dad its really you and are you yourself?" She asked sheepishly.
Her father looked at himself and his wife. "I'm certain we are ourselves my little buttercup." He replied and Irene blushed shamefaced at the special name. "I'm just happy that I can talk to you one last time." She replied and then motioned to the side with her hand. "This is my family, Erza my firstborn daughter of first marriage and Y/n my husband, he's my second one after my first tried to kill me and Erza when she was still in my womb." Irene said and her mother smiled softly. "I'm proud of you Irene and that you got a family." She replied and Irene giggled happily. "Thank you mother but I'm expecting my second baby soon and so is my daughter from the same man." Irene said and placed her hand on the large belly as the wide cut dress was hiding most of the curves.
Her mother gasped in shock and smiled. "Irene I'm so happy for you and Erza and that you wanted to tell us this in person." She said and walked closer hugging her in her spirit form.
"I'd actually want for you to be alive mother, but I don't want to resurrect you two out of respect to the dead and your decision." Irene replied.
"Irene sweetheart, our time here now is up with you as I know our residual magic wont stay much longer even if it was so powerful but there is a way for you to talk to us even without milky way, its called dream magic, by casting that magic on the person she can come into contact with whoever he or she wishes for, I think someone could know it even in this time, its not hard to learn but sadly not many know of it as it has little uses for the people, I think I had a book in my archives." She said and Irene gave her a happy smile.
Irene dropped tears again and nodded. "I can't wait to see you again mom and dad especially when I know time wont press like it does now." She weakly said and her mother gave a small nod. "I know my child we'll wait for you until then but for now its goodbye." She said and hugged her again with Irene's father coming in giving a hug too.
Irene couldn't help but start crying more and more. "I don't want you to go away now mom and dad, I can somehow feel your warmth but I can't feel your bodies." She started to sob. Her father gave her a serious look and she looked up tears brimming. "Listen up child, we might not be here with you in flesh but we'll always be here inside of your heart, remember our teachings and find your path, even if it seems to go down into darkness it has to go into light one day, don't cling to the past like its the only way, bring it into your future to find the path you believe in, our story is finished but yours has just begun with a new chapter, one that brings life and emotions with your future, we'll be by your side watching over you from heaven." He spoke and started to fade away slowly. "We've seen what you did Irene, your fight against the dragons, your life was one cruel misery for over 400 years you've fought drenched in blood, fought for your child's life put others before you even when you were so desperate of a new body, you chose her over you, we are proud to call you our daughter and you've never disappointed us, not even once." Her mother spoke happily and vanished into thin air leaving nothing of the residual magic while the particles flowed into the air.
Irene could't keep herself up anymore and dropped to her knees weeping into her hand while the other was digging into the gravel. She wanted the affirmation of someone of what she did all her life, being told she didn't fail what she had done and now she had it from her parents, the ones she lost so young when she didn't have any responsibility and could do what she wanted.
"Thank you mom and dad." She cried out shocking everyone behind her. Her heart was aching from this her hands shock and she just let out everything she had, crying out loudly in front of her parents grave. She felt a hand being placed on her shoulder gently. "They are right, they will always be with us no mater what happens, just like we are." Y/n spoke and a second hand was laid on her other hand. "She's beautiful and looks just like me and you mother she has a heart of gold and the articulation of a very intelligent woman." Erza spoke and looked at the grave.
"I don't have much to say but I'm happy to be part of this family." Rose spoke and flew into Irene's arms who embraced her happily.
