Chapter Two

The team gathered around the adults, waiting for Batman to continue after his dramatic pause.

"The Avenger with me is Pietro Maximoff, better known as Quicksilver. Earlier today his twin sister Wanda, the Scarlet Witch, fell ill and placed herself into a coma so that her powers of warping reality would not cause irreversible damage to existence." Black Canary looks to Pietro to see if she missed anything and he shakes his head, gesturing for her to continue. "Normally, this would fall to the Avengers to handle but they are all off world on a preemptive mission, leaving behind Wanda and Pietro. So, we are going to help him."

"What do you need us to do?" M'gann asked, looking between Pietro and the Justice Leaguers.

"While we search for a cure for Wanda, we need you guys to locate her twin sons."

The team exchanged a look. "Why?"

"In case they fall ill as well with the same sickness. That would be on us." Diana explained.

Dick pushed his way forward. "How old are they? What are their names? Were they separated at birth? I presume she gave them up seeing as we have to locate them."

"Their names are William and Thomas, they are fourteen years old, and they were placed in the same home by Agent Romanoff of the Avengers, who is currently off world. She is the only one to know their location, but we have been unable to reach the Avengers." Batman explained.

The team nodded, looking back at Zatanna. The magician sighed. "I guess I can try a locator spell. I don't know how accurate it will be, given that we don't know their new last name or more information on them." Zatanna took a few steps away from the group, focusing her energies as Batman pulled up a holographic world map. "Wohs em eht noitacol fo mailliW dna samohT ffomixaM."

The map began to zero in on a small town in rural Washington, a blinking red dot appearing. Zatanna turned to her teammates with a raised brow, hands on her hips.

Artemis turned to Batman. "Do we go now or...?"

He nodded and Wally groaned, muttering something under his breath as they went about missing his show.

Pietro turned to the Justice Leaguers, an incredulous look on his face. "You leave this mission...to children?" The Justice Leaguers glanced amongst themselves before nodding in sync. Pietro sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Why am I not surprised..."

Bioship, Somewhere Over the USA...

The team was currently flying in M'gann's bioship, playing a rather intense game of 'Would You Rather' to pass the time as they searched for Thomas and William.

"Okay, okay, I got one. Conner, would you rather fight an army of Wonder Women or room with Wally for a week?" Dick smirked, watching the color drain from his friend's face.

"I'll die a warrior's death." Conner spoke stoically, eliciting laughs from all his teammates and a whine from Wally.

"Hey, I'm not that bad of a roommate." He pouted.

"Dude, we've seen your room. Its a mess!" Conner scoffed, gazing out the window as they flew over what looked like Montana.

"Uh, I'm busy saving the world, I don't have time to clean." Wally weakly defended himself.

"You have super speed, use it." Kaldur mocked, gesturing for M'gann to slow down. "We are coming up upon our destination. Remember, we know next to nothing about these boys. They could be dangerous."

M'gann lowered the bioship down to a clearing in a field outside of the rural town, in camouflage mode obviously. The team exited the bioship, turning to Zatanna for more information.

"Look, my spell brought us this far." Her friends gave a look and she sighed dramatically. "I can go more specific and only search for one of the twins, that may work."

"Well, what're you waiting for? Let's get this over with."

"Wohs em eht noitacol fo samohT ffomixaM." Zatanna called out as Dick pulled up a map of the town. The team watched as the map zeroed in on a high school, not shocking anyone seeing as it was the mid afternoon here.

"Well, let's go!"

And they were off, after changing into their civvies to draw less attention to themselves. It didn't take them long to reach the school seeing as it was only a few blocks away from where they parked the bioship.

They loitered outside for a few minutes before realizing they don't know what Thomas Maximoff looks like. All eyes, once again, fell to Zatanna.

"Wohs em samohT ffomixaM." She mumbled as Dick, on his gauntlet computer, pulled up a listing of all the students enrolled in the school with their photo I.D.s.

The computer scrolled through until it stopped on one I.D., a Thomas Shepherd with shocking white hair and bright green eyes, a lazy smirk on his face. The team began to study the picture just as the final bell of the day rang and students began flowing out of the building.

"Oh great, how are we supposed to find him in this?" Wally whined, staring at the mass of students.

"M'gann, turn invisible and go aerial, look for Thomas." Kaldur commanded. "The rest of us, split up. Keep your eyes open." The team merged into the crowd easily, blending well with the teens.

Anyone see any sign of him?

Nada.

Nope.

Oh-wait! I found him!

Where?

Sidewalk closest to the street, about to cross towards the library.

Gotcha.

The team immediately started to converge on the coordinates M'gann gave, instantly spotting their target.

They decided to tail him, see where he was going. They noticed a lack of William with him, but then again, what teenage boy willingly hangs out with his brother?

When do we confront him?

Not yet.

Why not?

Because he isn't heading home.

How do you know?

I looked at the school records for their address, he is heading in the opposite direction. I'm curious...

Thomas ducked into an alley, startling the team. M'gann turned invisible and peeked around, gasping at the sight.

Guys...Thomas and William are homeless.
