Chapter Four

When William heard a guard whisper his brother's nickname for him, something in his mind clicked and he was able to see through the glamour spell, seeing the team and Thomas for who they really were. His eyes widened even more and a look of horror came onto his face. William looked back and forth down the hallway for guards, waiting for his brother and these strangers to be jailed as well.

Thomas, upon seeing the horror and panic on his twin's face, felt his heart break in two. He wanted nothing more than to go and hug his brother, so he turned to Zatanna with a look of determination. "Magic girl-"

"Zatanna."

"Zatanna, get me in there or get him out."

"As you wish. MailliW drehpehS si eerf fo sih sdnob!"

As soon as Zatanna spoke her spell the chains on William's wrists and ankles disappeared. William looked down at his now freed limbs a small smile on his face. He turned to look at Thomas with tears in his eyes. He goes to move towards his brother when a shock runs through his body, making him fall to the floor in a fit of spasms.

"Billy!" Thomas yelled, making a dash towards his brother forgetting the bars were in the way. Zatanna muttered a quick spell and they disappeared, allowing the team and Thomas to approach the now still William. Thomas crouched next to his brother. "Are you okay?"

William smiled weakly, a small stream of blood leaking out of his nose.

Conner grunted, leaning down to help William to his feet. William looked scared when Conner reached for his throat. "Don't worry, I'm here to help." William nodded, watching carefully as Conner grabbed the inhibitor collar and ripped it off, a slight shock going through the two of them. He tossed it to the floor. "Better?"

William nodded again, rubbing his sore and burned neck. He turned to Thomas and hugged him tightly, tears falling out of both of their eyes. "I thought I would never see you again, Billy." William just squeezed his brother tighter in response. Thomas pulled out of the hug, looking to the team. "You said the Justice League wanted to talk to us, right?"

"Yeah, we should get going before the real guards show up." Dick said, looking at the discarded restraints. "You said your brother can teleport, right?"

William nodded, his eyes glowing a bright blue as he lifted his hand and aimed it at the wall, a blue ball of energy firing out of his open palm. The ball of energy hit the wall and exploded, turning into a portal to the outside of the prison next to the bioship. William raised his eyebrow at the team, gesturing for them to go through. Once on the other side of the portal, William swirled his hand to close the portal, looking back at his brother and the team with a sheepish grin.

"That was cool." Wally laughed, running up to the bioship as the prison started to sound an alarm. "But I think we should go now."

"Agreed."

Everyone piled on the bioship, taking a seat as M'gann flew them away from the prison in camouflage mode, everyone giggling slightly at their first prison break.

Thomas turned to the team with a curious expression. "Why does the Justice League want to talk with us?"

Do we tell them?

I don't know.

No, we let the League tell them.

"I think we should let the Justice League fill you in." Kaldur said, eyeing the twins carefully.

"Ooh, ominous." Thomas grinned uneasily, looking over at William who had his hand on his throat. "Are you sure you are okay?"

William gave him a thumbs up, his hands glowing blue as well as his neck. After a moment, he took his hands away from his throat to reveal a completely healed neck. The team looked a bit awed, everyone except Zatanna, who just nodded approvingly.

"So, Thomas, we noticed your awe earlier on the ride over here. Is it because you're on an alien spacecraft or because you've never flown before?" Wally asked, earning eye rolls from his friends.

"Please, call me Tommy. And both, actually." Tommy chuckled, looking at William. "We have barely left the state, let alone flown before."

"Woah, sheltered much?" Artemis muttered under her breath, getting elbowed by M'gann. "What?"

"They can hear you."

"So? I didn't say anything bad."

"It is okay, we were sheltered growing up. I mean, when our parents cared about us." Tommy said and William winced. "Our parents claimed they wanted to 'protect' us from the evils of the world by keeping us close to home at all times. And by evils, they meant super beings."

"So they aren't fans of superheroes?"

"No. But, surprisingly, they are quite fond of Black Widow from the Avengers. We're not sure why though. Maybe because she is just a normal human." Tommy shrugged.

Wasn't Black Widow the one to bring the twins to their parents?

Yeah.

So they like her for that reason, I'm guessing.

Or maybe for what Tommy said, because she's human and they are elitists.

Why would they kick the twins out for being mutants if they wanted children so badly?

Weren't you listening? They wanted HUMAN children.

Yikes, how awful can people get?

You'd be surprised, M'gann.

Well, I hope William and Thomas are happy when they find out who their real mother is.

I wonder who the father is?

Does it matter?

It might to them.

Does the Scarlet Witch know?

Woah.

What? I'm just asking. She was a teenager when she had them.

How do you know?

Do the math.

She wasn't much older than us when she had them...

While the team was having their mind link conversation, Tommy turned to William with a reassuring smile. "I'm sure the Justice League just wants to keep track of super humans, nothing big."

William nodded, unconvinced. He had a feeling that whatever the Justice League had to tell them, it was going to be more important than just keeping tabs on them.
