Patience...the ability to accept or tolerate delay without getting annoyed. It's a very valued(also a bit overrated) virtue among us humans as a species and currently mine was being seriously tested.

You'd think delay to the ultimate turning around of your entire life would be a good thing but at this point I wanted it to be done and over with.

At this point about 5 students had gone in and come out, one of whom seemed like he was about to shit himself.

I looked at the clock as it struck 12 pm and audibly sighed which I really needed to stop doing.I looked over at Blake and he seemed to mirror my expression.Hard cold exhaustion.

Although the room was almost half empty,to me it seemed that my turn would never come.My stomach grumbled reminding me of my impending hunger at the moment.

They should seriously find an easier way to do this it's 2050 for goodness sake. "Micheal Myers please proceed to the Testing Room." the mysterious woman's voice rang out over the silence again.

I watched a guy in a baggy hoodie proceed to the back of the class, hands in his pocket like he was going to get groceries or something. You could actually feel the confidence oozing off of him and I couldn't help but feel envious.I wish I was that confident my life would probably be way better.

I couldn't make out much about his face all I could just a patch of blonde hair falling over his forehead and actual gray eyes.I don't think I've ever seen gray eyes in my life.

He walked through the door just like many others before him but just before he shut the door behind him he turned around and trained his eyes on me and gave me a wink out of nowhere. Before I could even question it the door was already shut.

"What the hell was that?" Blake jumped at my sudden question it seemed he must've been daydreaming but again who could blame him. "What was what?" he asked, not wanting to pursue a conversation out of sheer boredom I pulled the good old "Nothing", he seemed to get suspicious for a second but he didn't engage the conversation either looks like I'm not the only one bored out of my mind.

"Excuse me, what did you just say?" I asked for the third time in a row. I noticed she was starting to get exasperated, her robotic demeanor long gone as I tormented her with my questions. It wasn't that I didn't completely understand I was just stalling so I wouldn't have to start right away.

I was currently sitting on a chair in front of the spacious desk she was sitting behind. There were a few shelves behind her with books that I assumed were purely used to liven up the place.Wow they really went out of their way to decorate I give them props for that.

What stood out the most was the giant screen which seemed to be embedded in the wall.Currently it was turned off with two green dots which were flashing at the top being the only sign it was even working.

She took a deep breath before deciding to explain the whole process again, she must be really patient to even handle this. "I will give you a series of two tests to determine your intellectual functioning after which I will allow you to leave the room and further instructions will be relayed to you by the guard waiting outside. This should take no longer than fifteen minutes so please cooperate is that fine?" she looked at me with a certain hope in her eyes.Probably hoping my dumb self was finally able to comprehend her words.

I gave her a slight nod after which she went straight to business. She adjusted her glasses and bent in her seat to retrieve something from the drawer. She pulled out a tablet similar to the one I saw outside along with a small box and a remote like device."Ok Aella right?" she asked as she adjusted herself in her chair. "Ye- Yes." I said hesitantly, I was surprised she even knew my name but I assumed since she worked for the government she had most of everyone's info on hand.

She removed the lid of the box to reveal a small stack of cards and took her tablet in her manicured hands.Suddenly the lights grew dim and the screen came to life showing a blank white screen.

"First I need you to confirm that you can see the entire screen properly," as soon as she said this a series of letters appeared on it "can you see those clearly and if you can recite the letters thrice please."

"IFTYECS,IFTYECS,IFTYECS." I said as clearly as I could. "Ok good now on to the real test, please pick up the stack of cards." I reached out to the box on top of the desk and picked the cards out. There had to be at least thirteen cards in the stack. "In your hands are 15 cards each holding different images," I shuffled through them and sure enough it was indeed true each card had images of different figures, an outline of a boy, girl, dog, cat, different geometric shapes and so on. "I will cycle through images which are similar to the ones on the cards on the screen and after the sequence is over you have to place the cards on the table in the same order as the images were displayed, try to be as accurate as you can."

She then calmly grabbed the remote. "Are you ready?" she asked in a voice which barely displayed emotion. "Mmm-hmm" I can do this right? They're just dumb stupid images.

"Okay I will now show you a sequence of these images thrice." Without any warning whatsoever she pressed something on the remote and immediately pictures...one after the other were being displayed on the screen.Okay girl,dog,boy- or was it cow?The images were flashing by faster than I thought they would, this was actually getting hard.

Before I knew it the first sequence was already done with me not remembering the slightest bit about the correct order but I guess I have two more chances. Before I even got time to collect my thoughts the second sequence begun.PAY ATTENTION my brain seemed to scream but it was as if the visual input from my eyes was taking days to get to my brain. My thoughts were so muddled that I couldn't even concentrate on anything.

And just like that the second one was done and with that the third one, in other words my last chance at life itself was underway. There's no possible way I'm gonna pass this. When the third was over and done with it occurred to me that I still had no clue of what order was correct. "It's time for you to pick out the cards." the woman said curtly. "Is it possible to go to the-" "No you cannot go to the lavatory at this point." She said as if reading my mind.Dang it I'm not the first to ask.

Hesitantly I placed the cards on her desk in order while silently praying that Lady Luck was feeling gracious today. With all fifteen cards placed on the table I leaned back in my chair trying to seem relaxed. If I wasn't right and had picked out the worst possible sequence I might as well look as if I know I passed.

"Are you sure about your choices?" she asked me while examining the cards in front of her.Why would she ask that?Did I do something wrong?I could feel my heart rate skyrocket as I debated whether I was indeed sure about my choice.Thoughts clouded my mind and I could feel a dilemma starting to sprout. The entirety of my life could be determined by two short words and I currently had to choose one of them.

"Yes." And just like that I had sealed my fate.
