Round 1 : Teen Fiction Results
Teen Fiction
Head judge's comments : This was a huge mixed bag of entries, from some of the very best to some of the very worst. Here's a quick explanation of how I've sorted going through and not going through:
We had tons of entries in Teen Fiction, over 100! This made it much harder for me to decide how many were going through, especially seeing so many with marks over 90! What I did in the end was take the top three books from each judge (taking six from ruthxanadu who judged two lots). I've also been considering having two strains of winners for Teen Fiction - this means having two golds, two silvers, two bronzes.
Either way, go look for your book below! Thank you to our eight judges and to everyone who entered, and congratulations if you've passed!
YES, SOME BOOKS IN THE ELIMINATED SECTION HAVE HIGHER SCORES THAN SOME OF THE ONES GOING THROUGH. THE TOP THREE BOOKS FROM EACH JUDGE HAVE GONE THROUGH TO ALLOW A RANGE OF BOOKS TO PASS!
GOING TO ROUND 2
The Chosen Path by susanksaltos - 73/100 : I love how the author has used a wide range of good vocabulary words. A lot of synonyms are used which makes the book a great one. It's written in a very neat manner which will please the reader.
Frost by porcupie - 77/100 : The book is well written and has a creative plot; takes me back to my fairy tale days. I don't know why it's tagged in Teen Fiction in the first place; it should be in Fantasy but anyway the book is amazing.
The Mysterious Playbook by giarene - 80/100 : This book is a blessing! I love it to the core and I hope it wins. The tenses are a problem but then the book is written so well that I can't help but ignore the mistakes.
Sisters by Choice by themockingjay2544 - 84/100 : I knew right away I was going to like the story based on the descriptions the author provided and the underlying plot. Very well done!
Warm Hugs by njoying_being_a_girl - 85/100 : Cute cover and an interesting plot. You obviously took time to craft a very lovely story line, and that shows!
The Diaries of a So-Called Tomboy by thatrandomfangirl04 - 85/100 : Interesting cover. I liked it. Chapters need to be a little bit longer but I am impressed there were no grammar and spelling mistakes to be found. I was strict in finding if the writer is writing in a good quality of writing. To be honest, the way the writer wrote his/her story was impressive.
We Meet Again by sopheajehan - 86/100 : The cover is so eye-catchy and suits the story. I liked the way the story was moving from one event to another and the plot was good. There were minor grammar mistakes but as a whole, the story is well written.
Fake It Til You Make It by bookwormsarah - 87/100 : loved this book! Well written and the cover is cute! It was a nice read. The plot I got from the blurb pulled me in and it looks like it's going to be VERY interesting. Can't wait to read more!
Road To Summer by sparktext - 87/100 : Road to Summer was the best I read - it reminded me of something I would pick up off a shelf at a bookstore and read on a beach. I loved the characters and the atmosphere the writer created. The grammar was good and I quite liked the cover too!
Twenty Days by airwave_angel - 87/100 : Great start. I find the different font a kinda confusing but apart from that, the organization is good. Completed sentences and the plot is going fine. A little more excitement could be included but and some plot twist. I'd recommend that not only for this story but for all of them.
Enigma by awishgrantingfactory - 88/100 : I would like to give my congrats to the writer for writing such a nice story. Without realising, I read more chapters than I was supposed to read. Nice usage of vocabulary and good description used while writing. Very few grammar mistakes, but can be easily corrected.
Popular by i_am_ifeee - 88/100 : I could not stop myself from reading this book, however there were some minor grammatical errors. Also, the cover could have been a little more graphic or alluring.
Scarred by izzmasooma - 89/100 : I loved the main lead! Within the first 3 chapters I felt like her character was already well developed. I liked the suspense and the build up of the plot as well as the male leads spunk. It was well written edgy and grabbed my attention. (Going to read more for sure!) the cover was also pretty.
Fatal Passions by elegantartist - 90/100 : I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK...the characters where diverse and that made the plot really interesting in terms of clash of different ethnicities. It was very well written and I liked how it flowed really well chapter by chapter...it had a originality you rarely see on Wattpad. Also the cover was gorgeous...
The Side Character by _no_dream_is_too_big - 90/100 : This book was reaaaaally good. From the first chapter I loved it. The plot is very interesting and unique and the writing was phenomenal. The cover was beautiful. The only reason I didn't give it 100/100 is because it needed minor improvements. It was awesome!
Angel From Hell by oceanblue_1 - 90/100 : Incredibly well written. The writing style of the author is like of someone who writes books for a living! I couldn't find grammar or spelling mistakes...the cover could use some work though. Other than that I'm excited to read more of this book. It's steadily paced and I really like the main character. :)
Aleana by jesuslover001 - 90/100 : The writing was very good except for a few errors and stuff but mainly it's the chapters. She rushed into events and didn't add much detail.
Dear Ex-Best Friend's Diary by skizzzle - 91/100 : This book was one of my favourite reads from my second list. It was funny, cringey and sad. The cover was creative and I loved the plot (which I was able to understand from chapter 1) it didn't drag and it was straight to the point. Really good read.
Dark Tides by porcupie - 93/100 : Cover is pretty, but the text could be easier to read. No noticeable grammar or spelling mistakes. Well developed characters. Good detail and humor.
Futile by gorgeous_enyah - 93/100 : Cover looks well done. Very little grammar and spelling mistakes. Great amount of detail. I thought it was a very unique book.
Our Beating Hearts by lightning_stryker - 95/100 : Spectacular! I tried to find major criticisms but I'd be biased if I did. Very good book so far, from the cover to the writing and everything in between.
The Storytellers by nobodybutbaby - 95/100 : This story, the cover and the plot was very appealing. the grammar was great, as well as the writing. The Dancer by hiasyed - 75/100 : The cover did not match the title, however the general plot and writing was good.
Trouble Comes in Two by boredofboring - 95/100 : This book was seriously so good. It has potential. The suspense was killer and made you want to continue reading. The only part is to just correct the grammatical errors but overall this book was great
What If... by skylarrosa - 96/100 : Beautiful cover that fit the story. Very well detailed writing. Well rounded characters. Very little grammar or spelling mistakes.
The Way It Was Before by raindrops_ - 97/100 : Simply amazing! Your grammar and writing were perfect. You lost two points on the cover, I like it but it doesn't seem very original.
Thursday by lauraliessometimes - 97/100 : I quite liked your cover, but that's actually where you lost your three points!! Although it's pretty, it's a bit typical and it's hard to read your name. However, your writing is excellent and I couldn't find any grammar/spelling mistakes. I loved the first chapter and honestly how well written it was. I think the plot is interesting and you tackle difficult topics in a mature, sensitive way. I really liked how it started out and I am definitely going to go back and read it in my own spare time.
Things Happen by corabellina - 98/100 : Everything was fitting, however there were some cliches that i found a bit cringey, but I couldn't put it down in any other way! A lovely read.
Making Her Happy by raylenn98 - 98/100 : This book was basically one of the best I've judged so far. The only thing is why is she so depressed if she's rich? I'm happy, she should be too.
NOT GOING TO ROUND 2 : eliminated
Torn Apart by merlinlisa25 - 31/100 : As a judge; I hate to say this but the book was nowhere around the benchmark. Nothing in that book truly pleased me.
Please Respect the Roses by adextinct - 40/100 : It wasn't my cup of tea. The grammar and spelling was pretty bad. I didn't understand anything! I don't even know what it was about- even the cover confused me.
All In by tynuu_ade - 40/100 : Grammar- Not good. Most words are correctly spelled but are used in the wrong context. Little to no punctuation. Run on sentences are like everywhere! The plot is all over the place. The cover is great but I just can't see the relationship it has with the story. Or maybe I've read too little.
Her Dark Secret by cheeseburger-addict - 44/100 : The book has a good story line but it is filled with grammatical errors. Sentence construction is also poor.
Diary of a Bossy Teen by empress_cece - 45/100 : The cover was not appealing, i had to force myself to read it. the writing skills were fairly okay as well as the grammar.6 Months With Mr
The Bad Boy Next Door by suheenaghosh29 - 50/100 : The plot was typical and wasn't creative. I understand that the author said it was suppose to be cliche but it felt like chucks were missing in some places and grammar wasn't that great- the writer rarely uses capital letters! Punctuation was used wrong. The spelling was okay as was the cover. However, it just didn't keep me hooked!
Chase: The First Year by i-am-v - 50/100 : I like the cover. The title is hard to read though. I found some grammar mistakes when reading. The story lacks a lot of detail. You couldn't really tell where the characters were during the chapters.
The Spring That Changed Us by nannamae - 50/100 : The cover was extremely blurry and hard to read. A fair amount of grammar mistakes. Not a lot of description making it hard to stay with the story. I felt like the plot just wasn't there at all. The author just seemed to have all these ideas but it wasn't focused anywhere.
Princess In Disguise by stupidly_stupid - 50/100 : Cover didn't fit the story. Very little detail. While reading it all felt a bit rushed. I thought the plot idea was interesting, but it was not executed well.
If I Were The Universe by mightycentaur - 50/100 : The plot was difficult to understand. The writer said that English is not their first language- so I understood why they had a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes. The cover was ok. I couldn't get into the story because it was very difficult to read.
Christmas is My Curse by southerngal01 - 51/100 : The cover did not match the title, the overall writing was fair and there were some grammatical errors I could not ignore.
The Heir by stupidly_stupid - 55/100 : The story is good but the writing is not impressive. The start is brilliant but as we progress it starts getting boring and the reader loses interest.
Changing the Bad Girl by born_writer12 - 55/100 : The cover felt a bit cluttered and confused me for why it was used for this book. A few grammar mistakes were found. There was basically nothing to imagine because the author didn't give any type of description.
Chasing a Wave Of Doom by 4yearsnocalls - 55/100 : The cover didn't work the best with the story. Some grammar mistakes were found. It need more details in a lot of ways. I didn't know much about the characters since the author didn't tell me anything. Same thing with the scene.
Those Perfect Flaws by pialikesbands - 60/100 : You can't really read the text on the cover. No noticeable grammar or spelling mistakes. I felt like instead of getting to know the characters she just wrote these long, complicated paragraphs. It felt like an "info dump", as in it was all this detail without substance.
Teenage Dream by humanalive20 - 60/100 : What even was the format of her writing? I didn't understand it. There were so many errors and there wasn't as much detail and still the cover wasn't attractive.
Love Is Bitchy by youtumblrgeek - 60/100 : When I saw the cover I was interested in reading the book. I do think the quality of the cover wasn't the best (it is a bit blurry). A ton of grammar mistakes are in the book. I got confused at parts when reading, I even had to reread a few times to understand.
Untold Secrets by rabiatariq5 - 61/100 : This book was written very...awkwardly. I don't know if it was unique or lazy lmfao. It was odd the chapters were a little to short for me...maybe it's a short story? Key details about what goes on in the chapter the author adds in author notes and the writing is written in cut scenes? It confused me a lot! The grammar was not great but I gave it a decent rating because I think it was on purpose. I think. :/
Those Pretty Braces by thathalfbloodgirl04 - 64/100 : The cover did not appeal to me at all, it also didn't match the title, the writing was fair as well as the plot.
How To Touch Light by writeforyoursoul - 65/100 : The cover was nice and the spelling and grammar was okay. My only thing was it was too confusing in terms of plot. The writer didn't properly describe and it felt jumbled and confusing. Only by chapter 3 did it start to make sense and then the plot looked promising- maybe a little cliche.
Change of Heart by violetpayne1D - 65/100 : The cover was pretty and the plot looks promising. A little bit of tweaking is needed in terms of grammar and spelling...other than that it was okay. It was a little boring in the beginning but once you start it does start to get a little interesting:)
You're Bad and I'm Badder by xximagination20xx - 65/100 : The plot has potential to be good. The cover is nice the grammar and spelling is okay. It's only two chapters and it's a little slow so I could get more than that.
Emerald Eyes by sanya135 - 65/100 : The cover looks great. I found a lot of a grammar and spelling mistakes. The plot was confusing to the point where I didn't know what was going on.
Stilettos and Converse by amyparkins - 65/100 : The cover goes well with the story. I found a fair amount of grammar mistakes within the story. I loved the plot idea. It's very different and seems like a fun thing to read. I wish it was executed better. The story lacked detail. It was hard to understand the characters completely.
Her Art and His Paper Heart by excuse-my-emotions - 65/100 : Cool cover for the book. No grammar or spelling mistakes. Honestly, the story didn't have enough about the characters or details which made it boring. The plot seemed like a cool idea.
His New Beginning by ivyharlow - 68/100 : Starts shakily but improves as the story progresses. Contains a few extra indecent words, but not enough to be disqualified... The grammar could be much improved!
Fate by sayyidak - 68/100 : The plot of the story was interesting but there were much grammar and spelling mistakes made and can be improved. The quality of the writing was quite good.
Anywhere But Home by rockandmetalgirl - 69/100 : The story is really good, and the title fits it really well. There are a few grammar mistakes and at times it becomes a little boring, but overall it's okay. Needs some work on the cover.
Crash Into Me by reneeshantel - 69/100 : The book in general is amazing but the story seems cliche. There are many books out there with similar plot so there's no uniqueness. Definitely needs work on the cover.
Diary of a Nerdy Teenage Girl by kdawg321 - 69/100 : The cover was not as appealing as it should've been, in correlation to the title, but overall the writing and plot was fair.
The Stars In Their Eyes by bkrash2016 - 70/100 : It was an okay book. The writing was decent. The first chapter enticed me. There was some grammar and spelling mistakes but it was fine. After chapter 1 it kind of lost me in terms of story but it was okay overall.
First Class by muchlove_athena - 70/100 : I liked the cover and the main female character was very interesting...but the plot felt a little flat... There were grammar and spelling mistakes but mostly the plot wasn't very interesting.
The Bad Boy Still Loves Me by meevbota123 - 70/100 : The cover wasn't that attractive to start reading the book. The plot of the story was a little bit vague but the quality of the writing was very good. Grammar mistakes are found here and there. I found difficulty while reading. The writer was switching from first person point of view and third person point of view. some chapters of first person point of view were short and I got little confused. In the other side, the description of feelings, action and surrounding were well written.
Keep Calm... _fdcjr - 70/100 : Cover fit the book but didn't feel like an actual book cover. A few grammar mistakes were noticed. The writing style was good. It was clear and the description had great imagery. I felt like the plot wasn't always clear though.
Blisters by alacritysamar - 72/100 : The vocabulary used is good. The story is gripping. But, there are grammatical errors and tenses are an issue. A few sentences are not framed well and it lacks commas and apostrophes in a few places which forces the reader to read the line once more to actually comprehend what's written. But I Iiked the plot and it has a humorous side to it.
Same by classicromantics - 72/100 : The book is written very well with good grammar and a great plot! You could work on the cover as you lost 8 points there... Your writing also needs a bit of improvement. I enjoyed reading this one.
The Day I Woke Up Dead by black_hole_survivor - 72/100 : This is an amazing story and the vocabulary and writing is really good. Then again, I didn't find it very gripping. If the writer makes a few changes in the plot, it could be a true hit!
The Beauty In Between by magnificent_hart - 74/100 : Fairly good... I enjoyed reading this book! The grammar and writing style are both nice, however the cover could be improved.
You Gotta Live It by cocoberry02 - 75/100 : Great cover, nice premise but the character felt flat. Everything was well described EXCEPT the main girl. A few mistakes in terms of grammar here and there...otherwise it was okay.
Arm Distance Apart by jenzjuice - 75/100 : Very plain cover. Some grammar and spelling mistakes. Good amount if detail. Needs a bit more to the plot.
Frisson by katerinainwonderland - 75/100 : Attractive cover. I liked the story line and how the story follows. I didn't find any grammar or spelling mistakes. I think the writer to organise the length of each chapter and use much more vocabulary.
The Boy Next Door by cherrybayles - 75/100 : The title basically gives away the whole book and the main character is too perfect for her own good. Like it says every guy in the school likes her and she's beautiful. Oml. Also there are so many errors. Too many for it's own good...
Finding Jessica by blazingvenus - 75/100 : The plot made absolutely no sense. I read the first three parts and still didn't get a jist of the plot. Like how does your boyfriend break up with you without giving you a reason? Or how does a freaking 17 year old look like a god? The cover was decent and showed relevance though.
A Walk Apart by charlymanlove - 76/100 : Very good grammatically. Excellent use of vocabulary. Organization, on point! However, the plot could use a little preciseness. It tend to fall off track in certain areas and leave me thinking, "what's the story about again?" The cover also isn't my taste and I think a story like that should have a more magnetic cover. One that makes us want to read the book only by seeing the cover.
All Smiles Aren't True by manjiri15 - 76/100 : The general plot and writing was satisfying, the cover did not appeal to me but it was good.
The Blind Conviction of Faith Annette by merelyminh - 77/100 : I liked the cover of the book. The title itself is mysterious and the reader wants to know what is written there in the book, I think there are few things needed for the plot to be much clear than before. The quality of writing is pretty good and not much grammar mistakes found.
Messing With The Bad Boy by faitheri - 78/100 : Super cliche! The story could have had a more interesting start instead of the usual (mirror scene). It is entitled 'Bad Boys' but they are sometimes nice. I think that only one or two should possess 'good' qualities. They should be as bad as they possibly can. I'd love to see more description, that would definitely have improved your writing score!
Uncovering Serendipity by flusteredreams - 78/100 : I liked the description and how the writer was organising the story. The length of the chapters is good. The plot of the story pretty interesting but few things needed to be improved like the cover of the story and few grammar mistakes.
Game of Hearts by chapter_farah - 78/100 : Beautiful cover. Very few grammar mistakes were found in the book. This book was relatable on so many levels. The characters were done very well. Details were lacking at certain parts which is why I couldn't score it much higher.
The Bad Boy's Neighbour by droptops_ - 79/100 : It was am okay book...it just felt dragged and long in some parts. The spelling and grammar was good...the cover didn't really attract me. It was just weird to read because in one chapter things happened so fast with little explanation and than the next chapter just dragged on. :/
The Cupid Club by heartbend - 79/100 : Even though the chapters of the story were short in the beginning, I liked the way the writer expressing the characters emotions and feelings toward a specific event and the surrounding.
Never Mine by brittnleigh - 79/100 : The book itself is overall amazing, however, the plot is somewhat disorganized. The cover could be better, but I still enjoyed it.
Titanium by assassinassociation - 79/100 : A haunting read. I didn't read the rape scene as I was advised not to so this is scored without it. Your writing isn't great and at times you make silly grammatical errors, but the plot is very interesting and you're able to put across really strong emotions through your writing. Very close to being third in my lot!
The Friendzone Project by misselementalx - 80/100 : Really liked the cover and the main girl was relatable. Had some great characters. It flowed really well the grammar and spelling was almost perfect. It had a unique plot that most would enjoy.
Chain Reaction by captivatedfantasy - 80/100 : It was a great 3 chapters! I loved how they teased and left breadcrumbs here and there- slowly developing the story. It kept me hooked and wanting to read more. Grammar and punctuation was good overall was really impressed. The cover could be a bit more interesting though, I don't like it much.
Last Christmas by spruce_goose - 80/100 : This was soo fun to read! It was so simple but so unique too! The grammar and spelling was almost perfect and the entire idea of the story was cute. I really enjoyed what I have read so far.
Confessions of a Popular Girl by darkerinfinities - 80/100 : This books was pretty good. Love how it was written like a diary and It really lured me in by the first chapter. Liked the main character...real chances of character development are obvious because the plot looks that good. Likes the cover...it was cute. Only problem is it lacked that little bit of originality. Looks Great though...
Fortunately Unlucky by hailboobear - 80/100 : This book was pretty good. Love how it was written like a diary and It really lured me in by the first chapter. Liked the main character...real chances of character development are obvious because the plot looks that good. Likes the cover...it was cute. Only problem is it lacked that little bit of originality. Looks great though..:)
The Bad Boy Made Me Do It by fnastedyoman - 80/100 : Beautiful cover. A few mistakes regarding grammar and spelling. Not enough detail about the characters. Plot is original.
Mirror Mirror by twinning94 - 80/100 : Mysterious title, may catch the reader attention. the writer was very good in choosing the proper words to describe and explain everything. The plot was interesting and I enjoyed reading it. Well organised paragraph and usage of punctuation.
Trading My Heart For a First Kiss by tiloarvea - 80/100 : The quality is great, I don't know why it has so little reads. The only issue is the cover and title. The cover is relevant but not attractive and the title gives everything away.
Miss Know-It-All by maria_chumz - 80/100 : The book showed a spin on cliche elements. The only part is I don't think the title has any relevance to the story. Like the girl is playing pranks not outsmarting her whole grade in school. And also the cover is quite unattractive.
Fitting In His Heart by m_in_love - 80/100 : This book was great overall and could be better if she just reworded her sentences and added more detail.
Marry Me, Princess by meevbota123 - 81/100 : Fair enough, on the right path. Dialogues are in the correct format.. Grammar is good. It does include indecent words but some letters are replaced with asterisks. Plot is moving steadily at it's own pace.
Broken by xtypicalteenx - 81/100 : The cover is simple but matches the title of the story. After reading the story, I felt I would like to meet the writer personally and thank him/her for having such a good quality of writing. The writer was so good in picking the correct word, vocabulary or adjective while writing. While reading, I could imagine the characters in the story.
Something Between Us by sassysatanx - 83/100 : The cover did not match the title, however, the general plot and writing was satisfying.
Fire N Gold by sayyidak - 84/100 : I was impressed by the quality of writing and the usage of vocabulary. There were few grammar mistakes that can be corrected. The cover suits the story. The writer succeeds in describing the surrounding and the plot was much interesting.
Leah and Trent by writing5temperament - 85/100 : The plot was good. It had great potential. However some parts written from a guy POV felt out of place. The grammar and spelling was up there. The writer either used a thesaurus or is just that good! The cover was okay... I wouldn't read the book because of the cover though!
Beautiful Scars by randomnugget14 - 85/100 : It was really gooood. I'm going to continue reading it because it was that good 3 chapters is not enough for me. Plot was amazing it is REALLY well written...you feel a connection with the character minor spellings and the cover was great!
Being Mean by cherioo - 85/100 : Cliché. Cliché. Cliché. However I find their clichés kinda unique. The writer added some sauce to it. Apart from clichés, 'Being Mean' is a good book with an exciting plot that will grip any reader. I even saw a cliffhanger!! The cover needs work.
Finding Gray by mxrleyy - 85/100 : Absolutely perfect cover for the story. Little grammar mistakes. It had a great plot with twists. You didn't know a lot about the characters though.
No Feelings by fatimaa_ex - 86/100 : It was great read! The writing was up there and I really felt for the main character. Again...I'm going to finish this book in my own time because it was that good!! The cover wasn't great..which is unfortunate cause the book was.
Gone by misha_stone - 88/100 : Cover is okay. No noticeable grammar or spelling mistakes. Writing was perfect and extremely suspenseful with a lot of detail.
Forever Yours by mits_06 - 88/100 : I could not stop reading this book, it's hilarious, however there were some minor errors, and the cover could have been a little more enticing.
Bright Darkness by 257kiara - 90/100 : I thought the cover was pretty, but it didn't fit the story. I really loved the authors use of imagery. The character felt very real and relatable.
