Chapter 7
A/n Somehow this entire chapter I had put my soul into for hours vanished and I couldn't get it back. So I had to rewrite this whole chapter from scratch T_T
It took a while to say the least T_T
But I think this turned out much better :D
[Vision]
"Look ... A butterfly!"
"It is very beautiful."
"We have all gathered here to say our goodbyes..."
"Don't leave me..."
"He has been acting strange since the accident."
"He is my new best friend."
"Son, this woman is here to meet you. Be nice to her, okay?"
"Don't take him away from me!"

A complete darkness as far as the eye could see. Much like the light of day, the dark emptiness overpowered all senses and all was that was left was increased loneliness . A teen floated in this endless cycle. There was no up or down nor right or left. No directions whatsoever. Only an empty space with nothing to control or to give. Nothing to hide, nothing to lose.
Dim tired emerald eyes slowly opened and looked around.
What...what was that? Just now? Where they memories? Or some kind of vision? Did they try to tell him something or... warn him for the future? The boy didn't recognize any of them nor could he fathom why he was show them. (A/n - reference to the vision he had).
The boy sat up in the open space with nothing under him to sit on. He looked around and found himself surrounded by a familiar darkness. It wasn't the first time he was surrounded by an everlasting darkness and it was probably not the last time. A darkness almost as familiar as his way home from Miwa's place.
Knowing he would probably meet that guy again if he just kept on walking, he stood up and walked in a direction. If you could even call it a direction when everything, or rather when his surroundings looked all the same. Then he came across a house. A house which was very familiar. It looked like... his own house? He walked to it and entered only to be swallowed by a blinding light. The light became stronger and stronger until he had to shield his eyes, to protect himself from blindness.
When the light dimmed and he could see again, he teen found himself standing in the kitchen. It was almost an exact replica of the kitchen in his house but something was off. It looked less luxury with less goods and the wall paint was also different. It certainly looked more like the kitchen from his childhood. But how could that be? The brunette turned around he saw something really disturbing. Not disturbing in general but he could see... himself. An exact replica of himself but from his childhood. He was talking to their(?) mother who seemed to cook something. Then his father came in. It was a happy memory. His childhood was his most treasured time.
''It really was happy at that time, won't you agree right?"
Kai's head flung to the side and saw himself, although his younger version, standing just beside him. The younger version of himself turned to look up at his older self. "You just agreed to that right? Unconsciously. Within your mind."
Neither of the two exchanged any more words. They just stared at each other. A certain amount of time passed and Kai didn't know how much when his younger self turned around and walked of towards the stairs.
''Follow me.'' he said. Kai obliged and followed his younger self up the stairs and into the room. But in his room there was nothing of his stuff in it. Not any of his old stuff nor any of the stuff he owned now. There was only a locked door standing in the middle. A big grey door to be more precise. And the door was surrounded by a fog which moved throughout the room they were standing in. Looking almost ominous, hiding whatever dirty secret it contained with big locks sealing it closed.
Kai's younger version pointed towards the door while he looked at his older self.
''You have to find the keys to unlock this door. If you can't find them, it will be to late."
"To late for what?"
"The first key will represent itself to you, sooner than you know. And when you find it, read the chapter in the diary and search for the next key."
Everything began to wither away as he felt his consciousnesses growing stronger. Looks like he was awakening, wherever he was.
"How will I know when I've found it?"
''When you find the key, you will know."
-
Tired emerald eyes opened but was blinded by the light once again. He closed them and reopened them. His senses were all gone and he couldn't move. He could hear some movement somewhere around him and if he strained himself, he could hear voices. Familiar voices.
''He had my necklace this whole time?''
"Yes. The Doctor found it in his pocket when they examined him.''
A Doctor? So he was in the hospital?
The rest of the conversation didn't register as the teen tried to move and only now the throbbing pain returned in his neck. Kai could also feel an immensely pain in his head and couldn't prevent a groan escaping his mouth. The sudden movement from the teen surprised those in the room and the voices disappeared. Then he could see two figures over him. He recognized these faces everywhere.
''Are you alright there son? You nearly scared us half to death.'' his father asked gently. His mother gently stroke his check and looked worryingly at him.
''What happened?'' Kai said as he tried to sit up, with help from his parents of course.
''The elderly pair, you know the crazy cat lady and her husband who lives a few houses from us? Their grandson found you when he was driving home. He said you had collapsed and was cold. Almost like... a corpse..."
''Do you remember anything?"
Kai looked away from his parents and stared at a wall in the room. ''I walked home from Miwa's house. I remember seeing a little girl standing in front of me, smiling while looking at me.'' He began. At the mention of seeing a little girl his parents glanced at each other. ''She said something to me... But I don't remember what exactly it was she said. Then, it all went cold and dark.'' He left the part of the dream he had unsaid. It wouldn't hurt to keep a few secrets, right?
"Do you remember what she-''
"Ahh I see you have awakened Toshiki. May I ask how you are feeling?" Their small talk was interrupted by a Doctor walking into the room. He was a tall, muscular man. He had light colored spiky hair with a matching set of colored eyes. He carried a tray with what looked like a sandwich and a packet of apple juice.
''I feel fine."
"That's good to hear. Such a fall could be fatal to your brain but it seems like you were lucky then." The Doctor placed the tray beside the bed and flashed a small flashlight in his eyes. ''Do you feel anything weird? Maybe nausea? Fatigue?"
"No but I do feel tired."
"Yes, a common trait for hitting your head.'' the Doctor removed his flashlight and glanced at the tray. "I brought a sandwich with me. Eat it before you leave to get your energy back. The fatigue should leave within a few days or so." The Doctor turned to leave the room.
"Thanks for your help Doctor."
"You needn't thank me. It's my work after all." He turned to face Kai's parents.
"Just walk up to the receptionist and discharge him there."
-
Kai stared up at his ceiling once again as boredom had since long settled itself down over him. The teen was prohibited to leave the house for the next couple of days. He was told to get some rest but no matter how tired he felt, he just couldn't bring himself to fall asleep. The dream he had, the one where he met the younger version of himself. He recognized it from somewhere. It almost felt like he had had it before. Nothing makes any sense any longer.
And now he was told to find even more keys. By himself no less or by his younger self(?) What's next? Will he meet his adult self from the future telling him to find pictures or something? This just keep getting stranger and stranger for each day. Then he thought back to his meeting with that little girl. For a strange reason, everything was dimmed and he couldn't really remember what had happened. It was almost like had never happened at all. He just remember seeing her standing underneath the streetlight and then she said something and nothing more. Although he was pretty sure he felt her behind him before the darkness took hold of his sight. It felt like an illusion, like he was confined to a really bad nightmare without a way to wake up.
Kai turned towards his closet. Where the diary was safely hidden away. And his mother's necklace was still hidden away in his... Then he remembered his parent's previous conversation. They were talking about her necklace. What had they said about it?
Panic took over the boredom and Kai hurriedly felt all his pockets. The necklace was gone! Did he lose it somewhere? Was he robbed by the little girl? No, that couldn't be it. He knew meeting that girl was somehow related to him ending up at the hospital. He was sure of it. The only explanation to this is that his mother received it from the Doctors. Now when he thinks about it, it was probably that way.
Then what of the diary? Had they somehow found it when he hadn't noticed?
The teen got out of his bed and headed for his closet. He opened it and searched. No, the diary was still there. At least, they hadn't fount it yet. Which was a relief.
So now all he has to do is to find the first key mentioned to unlock the first lock on the door and find the triggers to unlock whatever is lost.
-
This is totally not making any sense at all. It was all like a big stupid unsolved puzzle with every kind of obstacles to climb. Be it a giant chainsaw or a thousand meter high wall, he shall climb it and reach for the top where the solution to this puzzle and its unsolved mystery.
...
(''I can see them. They are all swarming around you. Those from the other side. Like bees attracted to their queen.'')
(He flipped between the ... as fast as he could. It had to be here. He could feel it. The first key.)
