Chapter Two
Before Jenn could fully process his statement, the room was in an uproar.
"No way," John barked, "They will not be doing that."
"Scott, That was the one thing I told you I did not want to do," JJ complained, dropping the magazine on the floor.
"I agree," Winnie, her group leader chimed in. "That would just cause more issues for our group. It will affect Jenn negatively, and Nana will also be caught in the crossfire."
Jenn gulped nervously, glancing over at Nana, who was uncharacteristically quiet. Nana met Jenn's gaze and pointedly glared at her before turning to Scott.
"I don't like the idea of my group mate and twin brother in a dating scandal. It will be the only thing talk-show hosts want to discuss with me."
Jenn sighed. She completely forgot about how this scandal might be affecting Nana. Another reason why her and JJ's alleged relationship was such a hot topic on in the media was because of Nana. Jenn and Nana were in the same group, and Nana and JJ shared the same womb. It made fans go crazy.
Of course, Nana appeared livid at the thought of her and JJ together, lest it take away from her spotlight. Jenn was convinced Nana wouldn't care if she and JJ were actually dating, as long as it didn't get in the way of her and JJ's fame.
Oh please," JC, her other group mate, scoffed. "If anything, this will make you more famous, Nana. They'll be pitying you the whole time." She stood up from the couch and stretched, cracking a few joints. "Which means more interviews and photo shoots for you."
Jenn blinked, turning her gaze towards JC, who smiled back gently in response.
"I think," she began, picking up the discarded magazine. "This will be really good for all of us. I don't know if you all have noticed, but 'Killer Love' and 'Lover Boy' are number three and five, on Spotify's top 100 hits."
Everyone immediately ceased bickering to pull out their phones.
"Shit, she's right," Winnie turned her phone around. "Our songs are climbing the charts."
Nana beamed, staring down at her phone. "We're trending on Tik-Tok too. We haven't been this popular in months!"
Jenn stared down at her phone in disbelief; the internet was going crazy over her and JJ.
Cutest New Couple in Hollywood: Jenn and JJ seen leaving the club hand-in-hand.
She clicked on the trending tag 'TripleJ' underneath the article. She was immediately bombarded with fan edits of interactions she and JJ had over the past few months. Some she didn't even realize had happened. She read the comments below one of the videos.
Jennxlove122: It's so obvious now. They've been pining after each other for months. Look at how JJ was staring at her during Electric Angels VMA'S performance.
JJismyfavxx: They've really been in love all this time, huh? No wonder Jenn and her ex-girlfriend split up. She wanted a piece of JJ.
Electricangelsbias: The timing is weird, for sure. I wonder if they were dating each other while Jenn was in her previous relationship. No way they just started dating.
Jenn frowned and set her phone down. One half of the internet was happy about her and JJ, but it seemed like the other half was wary of their 'relationship.' Seemingly believing that Jenn must have cheated on Kass since she and JJ got together so fast.
Jenn sighed and rubbed her eye with the heel of her palm. She and JJ weren't even actually dating. This was madness.
"I don't know how I feel about this either," Jenn started. "Yeah, our songs are trending, but how long before this becomes old news."
John nodded in agreement, striding over to stand protectively behind her chair. "I agree with Jenn. Maybe we should just let this blow over."
JC rolled her eyes. "Come on, John, you're the manager. You should know better than anyone that dating scandals between two popular artists always lead to increased music sales of the respective artists."
"Oh really, name two artists who benefited from a dating scandal."
"Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello."
John frowned. "I don't think that's tr-"
"Regardless, "JC cut in, "This would be really good for both our groups. I'm not saying Jenn and JJ have to stay together forever. Just for a few months. Both groups write a few love songs, they break it off, then we release a killer break-up album."
Scott snapped his fingers, pointing in JC's direction. "That's genius. I didn't have an actual plan. I just figured their relationship would increase album and ticket sales, especially with the big tour coming up."
Both groups were getting ready for a national tour. Their tour schedules were intertwined, with both groups visiting each city in their line-up simultaneously. Their concerts were scheduled just days apart, in the exact same stadium. This was done intentionally, Jenn had found out. To measure the difference in sales between each group. In some ways, Jenn found this unfair. While Jenn loved the Electric Angels fanbase, she had to admit New Icon fans were on another level. No doubt, New Icon tickets would sell out faster.
Jenn glanced at JJ, who was eyeing Scott with disdain.
"I agree with Jenn and John. This is the stupidest plan I've ever heard," He said. "Also, did you guys forget? Jenn just got out of a relationship."
Jenn sent JJ a small smile of appreciation.
"Also, she's not really my type, so I'd rather not date her."
Jenn's smile fell. Of course.
"JJ isn't really my type either," Jenn bit out, "I prefer a man with a little more.." she trailed off, eyes sinking lower.
Nana made a retching noise.
JJ shot a glare her way before rolling his eyes and turning his attention back to his phone.
"It's not about you two liking each other," JC said. "It's about what's best for our careers. Now we can pretend that you two never left the club together and let the fans make their own assumptions, or we can take control of the situation and spin a new narrative."
Scott hummed in agreement. "I always knew JC was the smart one. She understands this business." he walked over and picked up the long-forgotten newspaper. "Soon, this tabloid will be filled with sweet, lovey-dovey photos of you two, and my, I mean, your pockets will be filled with money."
Jenn turned and shot John a pleading look. He shrugged, defeated.
Jenn turned to her next-best option. "Nana, you can't possibly be okay with this."
Nana looked up from her phone, sending Jenn a sickly-sweet smile. "Treat my brother well, Jenn. He deserves the best."
She and JJ groaned in unison.
"Aww cheer up," JC said eyes darting between Jenn and J with a wicked gleam. "It's only for a few months."
JJ glared at JC. "What do you even gain from this JC? Why are you so dead-set on me and Jenn fake dating?"
JC fixed JJ with an innocent stare. "I just want what's best for both our groups."
"Bull-shit."
JC shrugged. "Fine don't believe me." she walked over to Jenn, leaning down to whisper in her ear. "Come talk to me later, I'll explain everything."
She winked at Jenn, before strutting out the door with Winnie and Nana in tow.
"Let's go, Jenn," John said. "Before the paparazzi swarm this place."
Jenn stood up, braving a glance towards JJ who remained seated. He was staring down at his phone blankly, a picture of Jenn and him leaving the club adorned the screen.
Jenn flush lightly and rushed out of the room.
It's only for a few months.
