Part 5
When I woke up, I was in the same place that I was about three or four weeks ago. I must have really loved to come to the hospital. I looked to my right and saw Azami. She was sleeping with her head resting on the side of the bed. I put my hand on her shoulder and she woke up.
"Koda? Your awake!" She jumped up and hugged me.
"What's the occasion?" I said.
She immediately stepped back from me.
"What?" I asked.
"I must go tell the king and queen!"
The door opened and Arion walked in. He came in with some flowers in his hands.
"No need to worry, Lady Azami. I will go tell them that their son has finally returned to us." he said.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Your father entrusted me with keeping Azami safe and bringing her here. Now, if you will excuse me. I have a message to deliver." He bowed and walked out of the room.
Azami pulled a chair next to the bed. She smiled.
"I'm glad your finally awake. You had me worried. You also worried Emiko and Miu. I think you should apologize." she said.
"I will get right on that as soon as I can get out of here." I replied.
I tried to get up but I was pulled back by chords and wires that were attached to me. Azami pushed me back down. My shoulder hit the railing of the bed.
"Ouch!"
"Sorry. Your shoulder must still be sore from when you fell on it. It must have healed by now. You've been asleep for so long." Azami said.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked.
"You've been asleep for almost four days now."
"What? Then, what happened to me?"
"The morning when you said that you were going to be down in a moment, well, you didn't come back. Your father asked Arion to go look for you. Arion walked out of the room but from what he told me, he was stopped by some maid named Porcia? That might ring a bell to you. She wanted to ask him about the towels and where they were put or something like that. Anyway, she was talking to him and he saw you at the top of the stairs. He called out to you at least three times. You were looking right at him but it was like you weren't even there. Then, just out of no where, you fell. You must have fainted. I skipped school that day. We were all at the hospital. Your mother went into the ambulence with you but Arion, your father, and I just followed behind. When we got to the hospital, we saw them rushing you into a room but they told us to wait outside in the waiting room. An hour after that, they told us that you had a very bad fever. They didn't know when you would wake up. After school today, I came to visit you but fell asleep. I was exhausted. We had gym class today. We were all scared that you would never wake up again. The doctors thought that you had slipped into a coma but no one was sure. Your awake now though so that's good." she looked sad.
"Ugh. I bet I have alot of homework to make up now don't I?" I said.
"Well there actually wasn't that much homework so far this week but you still have to make up the test."
"Oh! The test! I completely forgot! Gaaah!"
I felt so annoyed. It was usually hard to do an exam after it was already due. I was still glad though. Even though I still had alot to do, I was just happy that I woke up. If I hadn't, who knows what would have happened to me. I would have never seen Azami, or Miu, or Emiko, or anyone ever again. I would not have done anything with my life yet.
"Hey. At least the press hasn't got a hold of this yet, right?" Azami laughed.
"Yeah, I guess your right. Well.... It's good to be back."
Azami smiled. I felt like I had only been asleep for a few seconds but four days sounded unbelievable to me. I was glad that soon I would be able to leave the hospital.
"Hey? I found this at the top of the stairs when we got back from the hospital. Does it look familiar to you?" Azami asked.
She held out a golden locket to me. I remembered it. It was the same locket that I had stepped on when Arion and I went into the woods. I still had to find the person it belonged too. Who is Lila? Who was the man who attacked me? Why was I attacked in the first place? Everything from that night, every memory was starting to come back to me. It was painful, it was frightening, and the sounds that repeated in my ears were deafening. I could see everything replaying from that night right in front of my eyes and yet I still couldn't see my attackers face.
"Koda? You ok?" Azami asked.
I snapped out of the trance that had held me captive.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Just thinking." I replied.
"It looked like you were day dreaming. Does the locket remind you of something?" she asked.
"I guess it does but it's nothing important."
"What's inside of it? The locket I mean."
"I don't know. I've never looked inside." I said.
"Well, come on. Open it."
I thought it would be an invasion of someone else's privacy. I sat there for a moment and looked at the locket, debating on whether I should open it or not. It wouldn't be that bad if I opened it, right? Maybe it would help me find whoever this belonged to. I looked at Azami but her eyes were fixed on the locket. The locket slipped out of my hand and onto the ground. There was a small clicking sound and it opened. There was no turning back now and it would not have been my fault. It had opened on it's own.
The locket was the color of gold. It shimmered in the sunlight as I picked it up. I had never seen anything like it before. The golden locket was attatched to a golden chain which was very long. I finally decided to look inside. In the right half of the locket, there was something written inside. The writing was so small I had to look even closer.
It read:
I love you.
It seemed like something that you would gift someone. Perhaps, it was a gift from this mystery girl's parents. I couldn't tell. It annoyed me so much that the only lead to finding this locket's owner was a name. There could be a thousand Lila's in the entire kingdom. Even if I tried to question every single one, who's to say that they wouldn't lie to me just to get the locket?
I finally got my mind of that tiny message but almost had forgotten about the left half of the locket. I flipped the locket trying to see the left side. Amazingly, we had discovered the best clue. There was a picture. The picture had shown a girl, as expected from the name. She had blonde hair that ran down past her shoulders. Her green eyes sparkled and her expression to the camera seemed most joyful. Her dark blue dress had shown off her pale skin. This must have been her. Lila.
