♕ Chapter 20
"Princess!" Alexa and Daphne squealed as Rose walked into the castle. She sped up towards them and they hugged. "I miss you guys!" she said as she let go of them. Seth shook his head and shrugged. "You left the castle just for one night," he blurted.
"Didn't you miss Mr Jameson while you were at my house?" Rose asked skeptically, narrowing her eyes at him. Seth flickered his eyes to Mr Jameson who was standing beside him, he was smiling. "I'm tired. I need to sleep," Seth changed the subject as he didn't know what to say.
"Do you miss me?" a sudden voice came from behind them. Rose turned herself to face the owner of the voice - it was Alex's. He motioned closer towards them and smiled at her. "Hey," he greeted. Rose raised an eyebrow as she was suprise to see him. "Alex? What are you doing here?" she asked and smiled back.
"I came to talk to you yesterday but they told me you were at your parents house," he said as Seth glared at him. He didn't seem happy to see his own cousin. "So, I thought of coming here when you get back," Alex continued and placed his hand on Seth's shoulder. "How was the trip?" he asked him.
"Stupid mosquitos, been pushed until I fell off from the bed, interesting sub sandwich and played a dumb game," Seth made a conclusion, sarcasm hitting every sylable of words. "I'm thankful that I'm still alive," he said, glancing at Rose. Alex chuckled even though inside, he was jealous of him.
"Sounds fun," Alex smiled.
"Fun?" Rose mouth fell open. "Seth's the worst roommate ever!"
Alex's expression changed. "You two share a bedroom?" he asked as he failed to hide his jealousy and curiousity. Before Rose could even explain to him, Seth had answered the question for her. "Yeah. We even share a bed," he smiled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "Didn't we, sweetheart?"
"No!" Rose denied, raising her voice. She moved his arm from her shoulders. "I mean, we did but nothing happened!" she added. Seth shook his head, smiling. "Are you sure?" he asked playfully, winking his eye. Rose was silent for a moment as she recalled the fact that she slept on him. "That was an accident!" she shouted and her face blushed.
"Accident?" Alex asked and even more bewildered. He was praying that nothing really happened as he couldn't accept it. "Guys, I'm confused," he said, waving a hand. Rose turned her eyes to him. "No, really, it was joke. He was trying to be funny," she lied. Seth laughed. "I can't believe that you're denying everything," he said. "It was obvious that you-"
"You said you're tired so you need sleep!" Rose cut him from continuing his words and took his arm. "Seth is tired so that's why he's talking like a monkey. I'll talk to you tomorrow at school, Alex. Bye!" she babbled and pulled him into the castle.
"Okay. Bye," Alex said shortly as he watched Rose pulling Seth into the building, heading towards their bedroom. He is dissapointed as he was here to talk to her. He missed everything about her so badly - her laugh, her smile and her sense of humor. His mind was racing fast, trying to figure out what Seth and Rose was talking about. Is it true that something happened? He made his way to the car and his heart was broken into pieces.
"See, you were too attracted to me," Seth bragged and looking down at Rose's hand that was still holding his arm. "Now, you are holding my arm and doesn't want to let go of it," he smiled. Rose flickered her eyes to her hand and realised that she was still holding him.
"Eww, that's gross!" she immediately pulled her hand from his arm. "Why're you telling Alex about what happened?" Rose demanded.
"Why not?" Seth asked before he let out a fake chuckle. "Oh, you're afraid that he'll be less interested to you if I tell him what happened?" he clasped his hands together. Rose gave a numb expression at him. "What are you talking about? Alex's just a friend," she explained.
"You don't have to pretend, Rose," he said and walked away from there, leaving her behind. Rose who was bewildering, sped up to catch up with him. "I'm not pretending. I don't like him," she said and somehow, sounding so desperate to tell him the truth about her feelings. Seth looked up and rolled his eyeballs. "Then why're you panicking just now?" he glanced at her.
"I don't want Alex to think I'm so desperate to be love," she looked down. "Because I hugged you that night," . Seth raised an eyebrow. "Are you desperate to be love?" he asked in a serious yet playful tone. Rose wrinkled her nose, shaking her head rapidly. "No! What kind of question was that?" she exclaimed.
"Forget about it," Seth said shortly and they reached their bedrooms. He stretched his arms. "I'm so tired! I couldn't sleep last night," he yawned.
"Why?"
"A buffalo slept on me until I couldn't breath. She's so heavy," he whined and opened his bedroom door. "That buffalo is an airhead and she's desperate to be love. It reminds me a lot of you, Rose," he said, nodding and before he closed the door, he shouted. "Goodnight, Rose The Buffalo!"
"Seth Larston!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
~~
"Bye," Rose said as she was about to walk to her class. But then, Seth took her hand. "Wait," he said and stopped her from walking. She turned herself facing him and pulled her hand away from his. "What?" she asked, puzzled.
"Are you going to see Alex?" Seth cleared his throat.
"He's my classmate, Seth, of course I'll see him," Rose rolled her eyes, annoyed. Seth nodded before he said, "I'll send you," he started to walk. Rose wrinkled her nose. "Why would you? The film building is over there," she said and was even more puzzle by his weird behaviour.
Seth was silent for a second, trying to think of an explanation. "I could go where ever I want," he said and then grabbed her arm. "You'll be late for class," he pulled her arm and walked away from there. "But-" Rose stuttered but she couldn't do anything as he was gripping her arm.
"Seth!" a voice suddenly called for him from behind. Rose and Seth craned their neck as they watched Jessica rushing toward them. "Hi," she greeted and her eyes stared sharply on his hand that was still holding Rose.
Rose realised that she was staring on her arm that Seth was holding. She pulled her arm away from his and looked down uncomfortably. She couldn't help but to curse her under her breath. Why'd she always come between them?
"What are you doing here?" Seth asked in an unfriendly voice. Jessica smiled, pretending like she didn't know that Seth hated to see her. "I'm looking for you," she said and fixed her eyes on him. "I didn't have the chance to talk to you these few days,"
"I'm busy," Seth replied shortly. "And I am still. Let's go," he grabbed Rose's arm again and this time, he'd tighten his grip so she wouldn't be able to free herself from him. Rose gave an awkward look at Jessica before Seth pulled her away, heading towards their class. She glanced on Seth's face and he was wearing a numb expression, like always.
"Why'd you ignore her?" Rose asked, crossing her arms to her chest as they reached the front of her classroom. Seth shrugged. "Why shouldn't I?" he asked and moved himself a little to let a student to enter the classroom.
"She's your friend,"
"So?"
"So, you have to be nice to her," Rose said firmly. She didn't know why she'd back her up but she does felt guilty to Jessica. No matter what, she took Seth from her and it was unfair. "She came to you but you ignored her. What would you feel if someone did that to you?"
"I'll slap that person,"
"Exactly," Rose said wisely. "Whatever it is, you gotta be nice to her. Jessica's kind to you and I could tell that she really loves you. And no matter what....." she trailed off.
"What?"
"I took you from her," she finished her sentence, looking down to the floor. It hurt her deeply the moment she said that. Seth let out a deep breath before he gazed into her eyes. "I don't want to fight with you, okay? So, can you just get into the class?" he said, pointing to the class door.
Rose nodded slowly and started to inch away from him. "Wait," Seth stopped her, pulling her arm. She turned herself facing him and waited for him to talk. Seth pressed himself closer to her and planted a kiss on her forehead - Rose blushed immediately.
"I'll see you after school," Seth smiled. He then made his way to his building, smiling. Rose who was still trying her best to digest everything that happened. Butterflies in her stomach fluttered and her heart skipped a beat.
"Rose," Lily said, squeezing her shoulder as she found Rose was standing like a statue infront of their class. "Are you coming in?"
Rose flickered her eyes to her best friend and was still wearing a numb expression due to the lack of oxygen. "I love him, Lily."
~~
"Alex!" Rose chirped as Alex walked out from the classroom. She hadn't talk to him yet as he changed his place in the classroom. He chose to sit beside Martin Gulee instead of sitting beside her like he always did. She was curious so she decided to talk to him after class.
But then, she was suprise when Alex ignored her. He just glanced at her before he walked away, leaving Rose behind. She noticed that his face was place and there was dark circles under his eyes. Is he alright? She wanted to chase him, to ask if he's alright but then she realised that Seth was waiting for her - he'll be furious if she's late.
"You're five minutes late," Seth said as he stared on his wristwatch and he was leaning over the limo. Rose frowned and inched slowly near to him. "Waiting wouldn't kill you, Seth," she said boredly.
"Who said it wouldn't?"
Rose shrugged. "Now, get in the car, we're going some place else," Seth continued and opened the limo door for her. Rose wrinkled her nose. "What? Where?" she asked, confused. Seth sighed. "Will you just get into the car? We doesn't have much time," he pleaded.
"Are you asking me to a date?"
Seth gasped. "No. I just wanted to go out. That's all,"
"Oh, really?"
Seth lost his patience so he pulled her hand, forcing her to get into the car. "Stop talking and just get in the car," he said and got into the limo after Rose was in. The limo pulled away from there, leaving Maximillian Art School behind. "Can you at least tell me where are we going? You're kidnapping me," Rose demanded, sulking.
"You're my wife so it's not kidnapping. Gosh, you're such an airhead, Rose," Seth rolled his eyeballs. "You'll know soon enough," he glanced at Rose and she finally shut herself.
The limo drove them to a park, near the city of Andorra. The driver opened the door for them and Seth got out first. "We're here," he said, widened his arm and looking around the park.
"Our first date is in the city park?" Rose said as she got out from the limo. Seth narrowed his eyes at her and raised his hands. "This is not a date, Rose," he assured, panicking. Rose shook her head and crossed her arms to her chest. "Whatever," she said boredly. "I thought you've never been here," she said, looking around the park.
Seth let out a weak chuckle. "Everyone had been here for at least once, Rose. Even the Crown Prince," he prattled. Then, he turned to his driver and whispered something. The man nodded and got back into his limo. Rose stared on the limo who was leaving them. "He's leaving? Are you sure it'll be safe for us to be here? I mean, with no bodyguards and everything?" she asked, fixing her eyes on him.
"Don't worry, he'll be back within an hour. And there's nothing to worry about. I'll be your bodyguard so you'll be safe and sound," he winked. Rose laughed. "You? Bodyguard? Oh, please.." she grinned. Seth put his hand on his chest. "You're doubting me? I learned karate when I was a kid," he gasped.
"Yeah, right," Rose shook her head before her eyes wandered around. "So, what are we doing here?" she put her hand on her waist. Seth moved closer to her. "We've been trapped in the castle for too long so I thought of walking in the park with you," he said before he took off his backpack from his shoulders. "But before that, we have to wear these," he took out two over-sized glasses and passed one of them to Rose.
"What for?" Rose asked and took it from his hand. She observed the glasses. Seth put his glasses on. "So that, people won't recognise us, simpleton," he said and noticed that Rose was hesitating. "Just put it on," he instructed. Rose sighed but followed his instruction - she put the glasses on.
"You look like Ugly Betty," Seth laughed hard as soon as Rose had her glasses on. Rose frowned and hit his shoulder. "And you look like Peter Parker from that Spiderman movie," she said sarcastically. He shook his head and tried to stop laughing. "Okay then, now that we're Betty and Peter, no one will recognise us," Seth said and started to walk. "Let's go,"
"Seth, you're acting really weird," Rose said and she was walking beside him. "What weird?" Seth asked and his eyes were wandering around the park. "You took me here for a date. Isn't that weird?"
"This is not a date,"
"Fine," Rose shrugged. "Why are we walking in the park if this is not a date?" she asked. Seth glanced at her. "I told you. I'm bored so I thought of walking with you in the park. Plus, I want to ask you a lot of things,"
"What?"
"About yourself," Seth said. "Tell me about yourself,". Rose was taken aback and even more puzzle. "Why do you care?" she asked. Seth sighed and slapped his forehead. "You're really dumb, do you know that? I wonder how big is your brain," he sneered. "Just tell me about yourself and stop asking so many question!"
"My name is Rose Humprey. I'm nineteen and I'm married to you. I hate Seth William Larston slash Jerk slash Monkey. I love chocolates and ballet and I hate frogs. I was born on 21st August," Rose said. Seth chuckled and shook his head, eyes downcast. "Interesting," he grinned. "But your name is Rose Larston now,"
"Don't care,"
"Okay, my turn," Seth said and tried to think of something. "My name is Seth Larston slash Jerk slash Monkey. I'm nineteen and I'm married to the most annoying girl in the world, Rose Larston slash Ugly Betty slash Simpleton slash Buffalo. I was born on 18th May and I hate spiders, cockroach and all insects,"
Rose laughed. "Nice introduction," she said and was still laughing. "And you're afraid of spiders? Seriously?". Seth nodded. "Yep," he admitted and he stopped walking when they reached a picnic table under a shaded tree. Seth slipped into one of the bench.
"Wow, I thought you ain't afraid of anything," she joked and sat opposite to him. She beamed on him for a while and somehow, his face was glowing with the evening sun above them. He is so handsome. "We're married and we didn't know each other," she said slowly.
Seth turned his eyes to her. "Yeah. That's why I asked you to tell about yourself," he said. Rose smiled. "Can I ask you something?" she asked in hesitated tone. Seth nodded.
"Do you love being a Crown Prince?"
Seth smiled. "Even if I don't, do I have a choice?" he answered. "If you're Seth Larston, everything is already planned for you,"
"Like our marriage?"
"Yeah. Like we," he said calmly. "How about you? What is your dream?"
Gentle breezes blowing through their hair as they sat under the tree. Rose chuckled and silent herself for a few second. For the first time in her life, she didn't know what she wants.
"Ballet. Always are," she answered even though she was doubting it.
Seth nodded. "I figured," he said before he took a deep breath. "I want to be a director. You know, like Tim Burton or something like that but I guess it is just a dream,"
"Why?" Rose asked. "You're taking filming course, Seth. I'm sure it'll come true,"
Seth's smile faded and his expression changed. "My future is planned. I'll be the King of Andorra. Nothing else," he drawled.
"A king who directs film?" Rose tried to coax him.
He let out a small laugh. "Funny," he said. Their eyes turned to a dog running to catch frisbees. The park was quite full with people and they were lucky that no one recognised them.
"If you think that way, then I can't be a queen who dance," she said, looking down.
"No," Seth said firmly and their gaze met. "You're different. I'll divorce you and you can still reach for your dream," he assured. Rose looked up to him, her eyes widened.
"You're divorcing me?" she asked and failed to hide her sadness.
"I don't want you to have the same fate as me, Rose. Stuck in the castle for the rest of my life. I can't let that happen," he explained before he paused. "I'll let you go,"
Rose bit her lips, trying to relax but she failed. A tear dropped from her eyes as the pain was spreading all over her heart. Seth smiled and he wiped the tear off for her.
"I won't forget you," he said as his thumb rubbed her fluffy cheek. "Everything's going to be okay,"
