Forty-The Calculator

Pearl's pov

"Goodbye, Amethyst!" I waved as Peridot and I ascended the stairs. Advanced Calculus, our next class, happened to be on the third floor.

"Pearl, you might wish to obtain your calculator. You know what happens when you come to class unprepared." Peridot reminded. I gasped.

"You're right!" I handed her my bag. "But I cannot be late. Carry my things, I'll be along soon."

"I have short arms you know!" Peridot yelled as I bolted down the hallways to reach my locker.

I pushed aside my fellow students, skidding to a stop at my locker.

Quickly, I opened it and grabbed my calculator, slamming the door shut and running away.

At least, I got a few feet until I was grabbed by the collar of my sweater. Jasper turned me around, and I came face to face with the patchy-tanned beast.

"J-Jasper! You're looking... well." Jasper looked awful. Her usual amount of eye makeup wasn't applied and she had a crazed look about her. Not to mention how snarled her hair was.

"Pearl! Do you know what Peridot does for me?" The brute demanded.

"N-no!" I insisted. Jasper chuckled.

"Well, she used to do my homework. But now?" She pulled me in closer, and I, whimpering, turned away. "She doesn't!" She shouted in my ear.

"I-I'm very sorry to hear that-"

"Quiet! Now here's the deal. If my grades don't improve, I'll be kicked off the team. So, I need you to my homework for me." I shook my head.

"I-I can't! Have you tried getting a tutor?" Jasper growled, then smacked the ninety dollar calculator out of my hand, smashing it with her foot. She held me up against the lockers.

"Then maybe you'd like to take this downstairs?" I shook my head and managed to break free, racing down the hallway and up the stairs to calculus.

"Pearl Baroque, you are late. I cannot tolerate this behavior."

"I'm so sorry!" I apologized. "I was stopped in the hall by Jasper! She broke my calculator-" the teacher held up her hand, silencing both myself and the wave of murmurs that quickly spread.

"Miss Baroque, you are interrupting my class. You can share Miss Diamond's calculator until you can get a new one." Defeated, I quietly walked back to my seat and sat beside Peridot, who tapped her notebook with a pen.

Did she hurt you? Was scrawled in Peridot's small messy handwriting.

Not badly. I wrote beside it, in neat cursive. I turned my focus back to class, determined not to let Jasper ruin the rest of my day.

(A/N) I'm sick so I'll probably update some more today.
