Chapter Eight (Part One)

Emma got to the lounge and looked around to find Simon. It wasn't a difficult task to spot him. He was getting a lap dance from one of the dancers in a corner. All she had to do now was watch him.

Simon didn't look too different from the teenager she remembered.  The major difference she could spot was in his demeanor. He was a lot more beaten down now. It seemed life hadn't been kind to him. Looking at him reminded her of their time in high school. While Simon wasn't a bully like most of her classmates, he was a cocky coward.

Scared to death of being considered soft, he did everything the jerks considered cool. Unfortunately, that involved twisting the arm of a defenseless little girl just so his screwed up crew could have a laugh. He deserved every blow life had dealt him.

"Guess you won't be impressing anyone now."

Emma smiled to herself. Simon Cullen was a mess and she was happy about it. If he turned out to be the one responsible for the gruesome murders, it would be one fulfilling task bringing him in.

She walked into the VIP section of the lounge and called for a dancer. There was a skinny blonde girl with curvy hips on one of the poles. That was the one she wanted 'to keep her company' - a phrase she used when speaking with the manager. He assumed she was lesbian but that was okay.

When the pretty blonde walked into the section of the VIP lounge Emma had reserved, she smiled suggestively. For a moment, Emma considered actually getting the dance, just to satisfy her curiosity. She found herself asking questions she never asked before, like "What if I like girls?" and "Do I just want to be by myself or am I just not into guys?" She discarded the thoughts. This was work and she was going to do it without personal attachments.

"What's your name?" She asked the blonde.

"Rebecca."

"That's a pretty name. Can I call you Becca?" She asked.

"Sure."

"Okay, Becca. I won't be getting a dance today. I want you to do something else for me."

As soon as she said that, the smile on Rebecca's face disappeared.

"I don't want any trouble. I'd rather just leave."

"Hey, please don't." Emma grabbed her hand, holding it just a little longer than necessary. "It's nothing dangerous, I promise."

Rebecca looked at her one more time and Emma nodded to assure her. She pursed her lips and blinked a few times.

"Okay. What do you want me to do?"

"There's a guy outside I want you to watch for me. Just let me know when he leaves."

Emma described Simon to Rebecca who asked if that was all before walking out.

About an hour passed before Rebecca came back. Simon was leaving, and that meant Emma had to leave too. She thanked Rebecca for her help, handing her a twenty dollar bill for her time. It was a pretty decent payment, considering the fact that a dance at the lounge costs only ten dollars.

Rebecca smiled and thanked her once more. This time, Emma confirmed it. There was something about her smile that she couldn't quite place. Both girls held gazes up until Emma walked out of the VIP section.
