Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1- DNA
As the sun shined, it hit me like fire. I could hear the usual sound of my mum and dad fighting. Unfortunately, I was who they blamed. I was the reason for all there rubbish they let off. I was in my thirteenth year in high school, and I have no friends. Well, except Thalia. But I know that she still talks about me behind my back.
"IF WE NEVER HAD A STUPID KID, THIS WILL OF NEVER HAPPENED! I WISH I NEVER MARRIED YOU! AND I WISH I DIDN'T HAVE A DUMB DAUGHER WHO HAS THE WORST NAME EVER!" Yells Dad. I hated to get in between them fighting, but I didn't want to let them fight either. People at school knew about how my mum and dad would fight, mainly because the school's bully, Regan, told everyone about it. He's my neighbour, and he always hears what my mum and dad would say.
Sometimes I wondered if he ever felt sorry for me, but I highly doubt he did. All the time he called me fat, or 'not skinny enough' was another sign of how I was a failure at life.
As a good friend once told me, she hates when people compare each others lives. Like 'that person has it worse then you'. It's almost as if it's a competition about who has the most violent life. I was an only child, so I had no one to look out for, or look after.
"OUR DAUGHTER DOES NOT HAVE A STUPID NAME! ARIA IS A PERFECT NAME! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, GET LOST!" Yells Mum back. I could hear laughter coming from over the fence, and I knew straight away it was Regan.
My backyard was small, and it had one thing that I loved. A swing. I had broken my arm once, from swinging to high, but for some reason I wouldn't let mum or dad throw it away. I think maybe it's all the good childhood moments that are there; mum swinging me on the swing and laughing when I couldn't start it up, or when dad would take photos with his polaroid camera.
I had to talk with our student support teacher numouros times a week. When Thalia and I were actually friends, she told Mr Smits about everything. The kicks. The punches. The words. The hits.
"FINE I WILL!" yells dad. I rush up from the grass, and run inside of our flat. Mum was on the very verge of crying, and dad was red in the face from anger.
"Guys, please Calm down-" I start, but dad cuts me off.
"Aria! This isn't your business! Leave now." He growls, slowly calming down.
"No! Don't leave-" I start, but mum cuts me off this time.
"Aria, you should leave, okay honey? Go find Thalia or whatever and hang out with her." Mum mutters, ushering me out of our flat. I didn't need to be told twice. I was leaving here, I slammed the door, and went off in a grump.
Now yes, we live near a forest. But that doesn't make us 'rich'. The forest was more a short trail, that ends after about 150 metres. There were never birds chirping, and when everything was silent, you couldn't even hear your own footprints.
It was funny, because today of all days, I decided to run.
I wanted to be free of everything that had happened in my life. So I ran back and fourth, from the start of the forest to the end, over and over again. When someone with a mask on tapped me on the shoulder, I got the fright of my life.
"Why are you running?" He asks. He was wearing a fancy suit, that looked a little too small for his body. The mask covered his eyes, but not his mouth. I had no idea why he was wearing it, but it kind of looked cute. He was smiling, but it looked like it was stretched to far for it to actually be real.
"Why are you wearing a mask?" I ask, smartly. He shrugs his shoulders, and smiles.
"I asked first. Why are you running?" He asks again. I shrug my shoulders and take it the wrong way.
"If you want to make friends, you should probably take off that mask." I say, running back towards home. He opened his mouth to say something, but I had ran off when he was about to say something. Who was he?
I kept running. And running. I didn't stop outside my house, because I could still hear all the yelling. By the sounds of it, it was getting violent. And I winced as soon as I heard the fist collide with one of their faces. So I ran back, and hated what I saw. Mum was crying, and I could see that dad was angry.
Whatever mum had said, made him really angry, because I had never seemed him this bad.
"Dad! Stop!" I yell, rushing over to mum. Mum was already on the ground, wincing in pain. I rush for my phone in my pocket, and dial 911. It took a couple of seconds for them to answer, but they were quick after she heard how frazzled I was.
"Police, ambulance, or fire?" She asks. I look back at dad and see he looked like he regretted everything. Should I get the police? What if he goes to jail?
"Police and ambulance." I say, looking down at mum. Mum was lying on the ground, all weak and she was clutching her hand. What had happened?
"Okay, darling. What's happened?" She asks, making me tell her what had happened.
"What's your adress?" She asks.
"256 Bishop lane." I say.
That woman on the phone said they would try and get them here as soon as possible. I was waiting. And waiting. I guess some things never change.
