Chapter 7

The time was passing slowly, Peter didn't know that an hour could have more than sixty minutes but turns out he was wrong because according to the clock he has been here for an hour, but for him, it feels like the whole day as passed.

The chair was uncomfortable for Peter liking, normally he liked to read with his feet up in the chair not sitting upright, but of course he wouldn't dare to put his feet on a chair that probably costed more than himself. So, he forced himself to sit all hunched over the book, probably not the best position for his back, but Peter didn't really care, at all.

At the hour and half mark, Peter couldn't take it anymore, he needed to make himself comfortable, he looked at the king and the man was concentrated on his work, so he silently grabbed the book and the tablet that contained the essay he was writing and slide down to the floor.

The floor had a carpet, so he wasn't directly siting on the cold floor. He made himself comfortable with his back against the desk and the book on his lap. Finally, he could focus on his work without changing position every minute. And that way he could pretend he was alone in the room and not with a person that could ruin him.

Tony wasn't a person that you would catch doing his paperwork, more often he was in his workshop working his new invention, but the kid wasn't ready for that. So, while he got used to him, Tony, for once, would catch up on his work. They had spent a couple of hours, in the office together when Tony decided the kid probably had enough, but when he looked up from his papers the kid wasn't there.

The kid hadn't escaped, did he? I mean Tony admitted he was focused on his work, but he would have noticed if the kid had just left the room, if not him the guards surely would.

Tony, slowly, got up from his chair, when something on the floor caught his eye, a leg.

"You know that we have chairs, don't you?"

The kid, that was almost laying on the floor, jumped and looked up

"Mr. Stark-" Peter was so caught up on his reading that the sudden voice almost made him have a heart attack.

"- the chair was uncomfortable" Peter said slowly

"So the cold hard floor was more comfortable" The king asked, raising an eyebrow

"I like to stretch my legs"

"Alright" Mr. stark said slowly, before continuing, "you should go back to the academy, I'm not some monster to steal all your Saturday. You can come back tomorrow, so you can finish your work"

Peter wanted to protest, he was almost finished with the book, and he was curious to see the final conclusions. One more hour, maybe two, and he would have finished, and wouldn't have to come back here tomorrow.

Mr. Stark was looking at him, probably waiting for him to get out of his office, but Peter had one more problem he needed to be fixed.

"Do you need anything else kid" Mr. Stark asked when he didn't move

"Yes" Peter paused thinking how he wanted to say next "yesterday, when I was trying to find the book, I was unable to enter the library. I just wanted to know if you knew anything about that"

"of course, I know about that Peter, I was the one who told them to do that"

"But, why?"

"Well, you told me that you hated libraries and reading, didn't you kid?"

"I did, but I still need to go there for my school work"

"Don't worry about that, you have all the books you need here, you're always welcomed here. Now off you go do what teenagers do"

Peter was incredulous, the literal king block him off the library because off a thing he said. A thing he lied about and the king clearly caught on that. But to come here every time he had school work surely was an overreaction.

"Kid?" Peter was brought out of his thoughts, realizing that he was standing still in the hallway, looking at the closed door. The guard, "Steve" was his name, the one that was given the task to walk him back to the car, was waiting for him. "Are you, OK?"

"Yeah, I was just thinking about something" Peter explained, starting to walk the guard posting at his side until he entered the car.

Surprisingly this time the driver didn't close the little window that separated them, not that it made any difference to peter, the man probably realized that he wasn't to talk to him.

The drive back was silent and boring, the view wasn't as interesting as it was seeing it for the first time, but they finally arrive once again at the academy.

As soon he got out of the car, Mr. Barton was already there waiting for him, "Peter, just in time for lunch. Go ahead, while I talk to Happy real quick" well apparently not there to greet him, but at least he could avoid the conversation.

When he got to the cafeteria, to his disappointment it was full, with no classes everyone tended to go eat at the same time. He grabbed his tray, and quickly he spotted Harley, waving him down to his table.

"Hey, Pete. Finally, you decided to show up, you disappeared all morning." Harley commented when he sat down.

"Yeah, sorry about that I just wanted to work on my essay" Peter said quickly starting to put food in his mouth, in hopes to avoid further questions.

"So, what, did, Mr. Barton want?"

"I already told you. It was to give me the book I needed. I then went to my room to do my essay" peter said ending the subject, getting up with his empty tray before leaving the room.

Back in the table all the occupants looked at each other, before one speak up "should we tell him that we went to his room?" no one said anything, there was one thing that they were sure of, Peter was hiding something, and they would find out what.

On Sunday, Peter did the same routine, although this time, Mr. Barton came to talk to him when he was exiting the canteen. Peter thanks the gods that he was exiting alone, he did not want to deal with more questions, that were getting harder to escape.

He sat through the same boring drive, this time, the driver, turned on the radio, filling the car with music that Peter never heard of, it was a small gesture, but he appreciated, especially if distract him from the ride.

When he got out the same guard took him to the king's office, when he enters thought there was something different. In the corner of the room, right next to the door, laid a bean bag. Peter just stood there looking at the piece of furniture like it was from another dimension. It was just a weird thing to be in an office, a king's office on top of that.

"Hey, kid! I see you noticed my new addition" Mr. Stark voice took over the office, making him take his eyes off the bean bag

"Yeah, I noticed." Peter said slowly

"Well, what are you waiting for, try it on" the king said gesturing his hands for him to seat

"What?" Peter said, surprised, why would he 'try it on?'

"I got it just for you, kid. Don't want you sitting on the floor, and this is the next big thing"

Peter didn't know what to say, because he knew this was one of the sweetest thing someone did to him. But he wouldn't admit it, certainly not to him. Instead, Peter, sat on the bean bag, almost laying on top off that.

It was really soft and comfortable, and Peter instantly sank to the bottom.

"Do you like it?" Mr. Stark said getting up from his desk

"yeah, Mr. Stark, it's awesome"

"Alright kid, here you go" Mr. Stark laughed softly, handing him the book that he was working on, before returning to his desk.

This time, Peter felt like he was on a cloud while reading the book, and sonnet than later he was done with it.

His essay was done.

"Mr. Stark?" Peter speaks up, afraid that the man would be mad that it was interrupting something important.

Instead, the king made a sound of acknowledgment, looking up from the screen.

"I finished it" Peter said, holding up the book

"Oh, well done, leave it there. You can go then"

Against Peter's thoughts this wouldn't be the last time he saw the king, because as soon he handed his essay the teacher gave him another, and another one after that, and then another.

It was a month full of work, and it seemed that the only thing they had done in that class was essays.

This amount of work surprised everyone.

"You've another one? This one is what the fourth?" Harley asked, Peter nodding as an answer

"Damn, the teacher must really hate you. Last year we only got two essays the whole year let alone in a month "

Peter didn't really though too much of the matter. He was getting used to it, in fact he was starting to enjoy Mr. Stark company, and the opportunity to read this type of advance books was also a sweet prize too.

This week, they didn't have any work to do, so that meant he didn't need to go to the palace.

It was the first weekend since he got here that he didn't have to go meet Mr. Stark, and to be honest, he didn't know what to do.

But apparently Peter didn't have to worry about that, because as he was leaving he got stop by Mr. Barton

"hey, Peter, come on, the car is already here for you"

"I don't have any work this week, Mr. Barton" Peter replied unsure

"I know, but king Stark has a surprise for you" Clint replied excitedly.

"a surprise! What is it?"

"Now, Peter, if I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it. " Clint laughed at the child like excitement that Peter showed. "Let's go, the faster you get in the car, the faster you know what The king prepared for you"

Peter spent half of the ride, thinking about what Mr. Stark could have for him, but nothing could pop up in his head, the man himself was unpredictable, so it was a little hard to guess. He even took the chance to ask happy.

"I'm not his messenger, kid" he said.

So, Peter would have to wait and see.

As soon as Happy stopped the car, Peter immediately jumped out off it.

"Hey, Mr. Stark!" he greeted as soon he entered the office.

"Hey kid, I see someone woke up in a good mood." Mr. Stark exclaimed

"Alright sit down, I got you a book"

"... a book?" Peter asked disappointed. When Clint said that Mr. Stark had a surprise for him Peter expected something a little more exciting, not another book. Sure, Peter love reading all this books, but he was hoping for something different.

"Yeah, kid, what did you expect?"

"Oh, nothing, Mr. Stark" Peter said sitting down on his corner

"Kid, I'm just messing with you" Mr. Stark said, taking out the book from his hands "come on, I have something I want to show you"

Peter almost jump out off his seat following the king out off the office. Peter never really been to any place in the palace other than Mr. Stark office and the hallways that he had to walk to get there. But, Mr. Stark turned in to a different direction, so everything that peter saw was new.

They took many twists and turns, and by now they had to be in the other side of the palace.

Finally, they stopped in front of a door, and when Mr. Stark opened, peter literally gasped entering the room.

"Cool, isn't it?" it was cool alright, in fact it was the coolest thing peter ever saw, because in front of his was a high-tech lab.
