Chapter 13

The rain was falling hard this night, maybe that was why John didn't see the boy until it was too late. The car had made contact with the fragile body of the child before coming to a full stop, it was a sound that he would never forget.

He ran out of the not caring about the rain soaking his clothes.

"Kid? Are you-oh god" John had tried to call out for the boy in hopes that the car hadn't made any damages to him

But he had been wrong, the young boy was laying unconscious in the middle of the street, a gash was prominent on his head pouring a steady stream of blood.

His trembling hand dug out his phone out of his pocket.

"What his your emergency" the voice on the other end began

"I hit a kid, a young boy. He appeared out of nowhere" the man said his voice trembling.

He knew how precious children were, how rare they had become. He couldn't live with himself if he killed one, even if it hadn't been his fault.

"I'm at the station, please come quick"

The ambulance didn't take long despite the rain.

In all his life John never felt so hopeless, he could only stare and do nothing to help the unresponsive boy. But never, not even for one second had he questioned why a child had been on the street in that weather at that time.

The paramedics lift the boy onto a stretcher immobilizing his body.

As fast as they come they had left, leaving behind only the small puddle of blood.

The ambulance arrived quickly at the hospital, getting the boy inside

"who is he?" the doctor asked wanting the relevant information concerning the boy's health

"we are checking it now" the nurse said holding a small device on her hand

It wasn't common knowledge in section two, but as the sections were created every citizen on section one were implemented with a chip on the back of the neck. Said chip contained the information of the person, it was a way that permitted to prevent any person to sneak in outside their section.

The nurse held the device against the boy neck, frowning when nothing came up "he doesn't have one" she said.

The doctor stop, he had noticed something. "he is from the academy" he said pointing at the boy's clothes. Peter had chosen the darkest clothes he could find, but every piece had the school logo, even if it was small.

"Contact them" he finally said starting to clean the wound on his head.

Tony was pacing back and forth, it was nearly morning and no sight of peter, the king knew he couldn't have gone far, and eventually they would find him, but until then he couldn't help but worry about the kid.

It was pouring rain outside, not to mention the freezing cold. Peter could be lost in the forest scared and alone. Tony heart clutched with that thought.

Tony was lost in his thoughts when suddenly someone breached in the room

"sir, the hospital call in, there's a boy that matches peter description"

Tony was up in the same moment, but the moment of relief fell when he process the words "wait, did you say hospital?"

"Yes, your majesty. It appears the boy was hit by a car, near the station, they didn't report any life-threatening injuries" the man had barely finished before Tony was out of the door.

In all his life Happy never drove so fast. The king was sat next to him, the car was silent neither of them said a word. In truth the king never said for happy to speed as fast as he could. But in reality in the last few months Happy grew to like the kid, so when he was told that Peter was in the hospital, he was the first to run to his car.

Happy had barely stopped the car in front of the hospital and Tony was out of the car. They weren't the first to arrive, some guards were there guarding the entrance.

Tony ran inside, a doctor already waiting for him.

"Your majesty" the doctor said when he saw the king

"how's Peter?" he immediately asked not caring if he was acting out of character

"I will take you to see him if you please follow me"

The medic guided him through the hospital hallways until they entered a room.

Tony's heart clenched at the sight. Peter, his kid, was laying in a bed, looking small under the thin sheet covering half of his body.

He had a bandage on his head, covering half of his forehead.

"He got lucky, there are no major injuries. He got a head injury when his head hit the floor, but not a concussion. Other than that-" the doctor went closer to the bed lifting the end of the sheet revealing a bandaged foot "he sprained his ankle, just a week of rest will do. He also spent too much time on the cold and rain"

The doctor finishes his report, Tony could only feel relief that Peter would be OK.

"Is he stable enough for an identification process?" the king finally said. This incident has shown how easy it would be to lose Peter, the boy thought he had a choice of who he could be. It was time to make things clear for Peter, he was his, his son, his prince. If he had to be engraved in him for Peter to understand, Tony would happily do it.

"Yes, your majesty. But it would be the best to wait for him to wake up first" the doctor responded.

Tony nodded "be sure to be prepared"

"Of course, your majesty" the doctor responded exiting the room, finally leaving Tony and Peter alone.

"oh Peter, you've got no idea what you have done" Tony said sitting down on a sofa near the bed.

In all his years of practising medicine Henrik had never had a day like before. It was unheard of a kid escaping the academy, it had never happened, but surely he didn't expect for the king himself to show up running up the stairs when they reported the situation. It had been a bigger surprise when the king asked for a chip for the kid. He cleared his head, it was not his place to question the king actions

Peter felt his whole body stiff. He was awake but his eyes felt like they were glued to each other, not permitting him to open them. He tried to remember what happened. Did he made it? Was he on the train on his way back home? No, he didn't feel the vibration of the moving vehicle. Was he home, in his own bed, did he made it? No he couldn't be, his bed back home wasn't soft like this one, nor his room would be at this temperature.

He finally manages to pry his eyes open, immediately closing them when he was met with too much light. He tried again opening them slower this time, blinking a few times to get rid of the blurriness.

Finally, he could see clearly, but immediately wished he couldn't. It was obvious he didn't make it home, from the walls alone he could see that he still was in section one.

"Kid, you're awake?" Peter almost jumped at hearing a voice, until now he thought he was alone in the room. Turning his head his heart skipped a beat when he saw, who was with him, it was Mr. Stark, the king.

His mouth opened and closed, not knowing what to say, but the king did it for him

"What were you thinking? You could have gotten killed"

Peter was silent for a moment before saying quietly "I wanted to go home"

"you are home, this is your home now, peter" the king said gesturing with his hands

"no, my home is in section two, with my aunt with my friends. Not with you and all the snob pricks"

Mr. Stark laugh like he was mocking Peter

"oh Kid, how wrong you are, your future has already been set and you don't even know it. You're mine now, but if you want to make it official I'll help you with that" Mr. Stark finished pressing a bottom on the wall, and almost immediately some doctors entered the room pushing a cart with them.

"What do you mean, what's going on" Peter asked fearfully

"you know peter, we in section one care a lot about the safety of our city, we can't risk a stranger walking among us pretending to be one of us, trust me that already happen before. So each and every one of us has an ID chip on the back of our neck, and now it's time to give you yours" Mr Stark explain picking up something from the tray with a pair of tweezers holding it in the light. It was something small, the size of a grain of rice, nobody had to tell peter what it was, he already knew.

"No. No, I don't want it let me go" peter screamed trashing in the bed. Quickly two doctors came and held him against the bed restraining him with their hands.

A third approach holding a syringe injecting its contents into the IV connected to Peter

"please" he pleaded, but nobody in the room seemed to care, all focused in preparing for the procedure.

A single tear ran out of Peter's eye as he felled unconscious

"welcome home, Peter Stark"
