Alternative ending
takes place in chapter 12
It had been a few hours since Peter went missing, and it drove Tony mad with worry. Everyone around him was acting like there was glass on the floor. Nobody dared to say anything, or even breathe a little too loud, anything could set off the kind.
All the royal guards were scattered over the forest trying to locate the boy, at first, they tried to follow the footsteps left behind, but they were long gone by now, the heavy rain erasing them, leaving nothing but mud behind
"Nothing yet?" Tony asked breaking the heavy silence.
"No, your majesty, we have people scattered all over the city" someone replied.
"He is a child, how incompetent can you be if you can't locate a single child in a city that he doesn't even know. The king yelled "it's freezing outside, he's been out there for hours."
"I'm sorry, Sir, we will find him."
Peter was walking on the edge of the city, trying to remain unseen by sticking to places that nobody walked on. He was starting to lose hope, he had been out in the rain for hours, he was shivering uncontrollably and could barely feel his feet, but he had to keep going.
But then he saw it, in all its glory, there it was, the train station.
There would be no denying that it was what he was looking for. Peter smiled; he was one step closer to going home.
He put one step on the street eager to enter the station, he could almost smell his apartment and his aunt perfume. At the same time a car pass by him at an incredible speed the sound of the horn echoing the street
Peter's heart came out to his throat, he was almost hit, but the worst of all, was that he was seen, he could only hope that whoever was in that car didn't know about his disappearing.
He entered the station, it was empty, of course he doubted that it was even used by the population. Almost immediately he saw a train that was ready to leave, not the gran one that he had come, but a cargo one, that was probably going to get supplies from section two. Peter's hands clenched, they already had few and even then, the little they had, they had to give to feed the greedy mouths of the rich
Suddenly the train came to life slowly moving forward, Peter's eyes widen he had to move fast. He ran across the station, his wet sneakers squeaking threatening to slip at any minute. Finally, Peter manages to jump into one of the carriages, unlocking the door and slipping inside. He panted out of breath, there was no light inside, Peter could only seat in the corner in the darkness listening as the trained picked up speed.
Now that he stopped, the adrenaline slowly leaving his body, Peter was left trembling, he was soaking wet, and the metal box didn't do anything to keep the wind outside, he could feel the freezing gushes of air hitting him from every side.
He crawled back to the corner hugging his knees to his chest trying to keep himself warm, an useless attempt but at least he was able to bring some comfort to himself.
After a while his body started to shiver, he closed his eyes trying to fall asleep to escape the cold, thinking about the warm hug that his aunt would be able to give him, or seeing Ned.
After a while the young boy finally let himself fall asleep almost invisible in the corner of an empty wagon.
While Peter slept everyone at the palace was wide awake searching for the missing heir "sir, we searched the whole forest, the boy was no where to be found" one guard said.
Tony got up from his seat, enraged he threw the glass he was holding against the wall making it shatter into a million pieces.
"Sir, we took the liberty of checking the security cameras and we caught the boy on the station. We think he entered a cargo train that left for section two" another one said.
The king stopped looking out the window, of course peter would try something stupid like trying to go back to his stupid aunt and his little friends.
"Ready the train, I'll personally get him" he ordered not taking his eyes of the window.
"Sir, we can bring the boy back" one volunteered.
"Ready the train, I want to leave in half an hour" Tony repeated with venom dripping out of his mouth, no one dared to object, they feared for their lives to do so.
"Enjoy, your freedom while you can, kid" tony muttered.
Peter woke up with a beam of light blinding his eyes, it was morning now, light came in through the cracks lighting up the wagon. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, Peter got up noticing that the train was not moving.
Carefully he unlocked the door taking a peak outside, recognizing instantly the dry plants and the hot sun, a smile lighten up his face instantly, he made it.
Looking around, he didn't saw anyone, it was safe to leave unseen, he jumped out closing the door to erase any trace of him ever been there, and instantly took off running.
He ran and didn't stop, he followed the road that he knew that would take him to the city, he passed some people, that stopped, looking at him strangely 'did they recognized him?' he hoped not.
Finally, he stopped in front of his apartment, it was still that, like peter had remembered.
He took a deep breath and knocked on the door, it was still early morning his aunt should still be here, he knocked again this time he heard the hurried footsteps "I'm coming, I'm coming" he heard the familiar voice yelled out.
Peter stood there listening the sound of the lock and finally the door opened. Peter didn't even let his aunt process his presence before he threw himself at her hugging her tightly afraid that she was going to disappear.
"peter" she said softly hugging him back not believing what she was seeing.
"may" he said in relief, he did it, he manage to find his way back home "I miss you so much" a tear fell down his eye
"let's go inside" she said finally breaking the hug, closing the door.
"Peter, I I don't know what to say" she said turning to him.
"I'm sorry, May, I try to fail, I really did, but they caught me, they caught me" he said sitting down on the couch.
"oh honey, I was so worried when Ned told me what happened, but how are you here? Did they let you come home?" she asked sitting next to him?
"no, May, I escape, I couldn't do it, May I couldn't, so I ran away" he confessed more tears coming out "they try to make us forget our family, so they can adopt us after" he revealed "it's why they make us take the stupid test, they just want the smart kids, the worst part is that everyone was ok with it, they let themselves be brought with food and a bed"
"Peter, I love you baby I really do, but I can't take care of you the way that they can, I didn't feed you right, your clothes had holes. But look at you now, your well feed your clothes are new. I hate to be separated from you, but I want your best, and I'm not it" his aunt said crying.
"No, may, you're the best family that I could ask for, you take care of me better that they could dream of, and no crown will make me change my mind" he said determination on his voice.
"What crown?" May asked confused.
"The king was the one that was going to adopt me" Peter said drooping the bomb
May looked at him with her eyes widen "Peter, if that's true they will come look for you, they will not let you go that easy."
"I know, May, but I don't know what to do"?
As the words got out of his mouth a loud siren began to ring "they found me" Peter cried out getting up from the couch at the same time a guard brought down the door "everyone outside" he yelled out pointing his gun at them dragging them to the street where everyone was being lined up on their knees, Peter and May were no exception and soon they were on their knees as well.
No one, except them, knew what was happening, cries and shouts were heard from all around until a car pulled up. Everyone watched as the door open and came out the man that Peter didn't want to see, like a switch everyone fell silent, never in their life they expected to see the king come down to section two.
"they're all lined up Sir" A guard told.
Peter let his head fall to the ground trying to hide his face, his clothes were muddied, the symbol from the academy was long gone under the layers of mud, he still got a chance of not being seen.
Peter heard the king start to walk analyzing the row of people line up for him. Peter saw in horror as a pair of shoes stop in front of him, but he still didn't dare to look up 'please, keep going, please' he begged in his head.
Peter felt hands grabbing his arms pulling him up, he was trembling, tears coming out of his eyes, but he still didn't dare to look up. Gentle fingers pulled his shin up forcing him to look at the king.
"Peter, do you have any idea what you've done" the king asked like a disappointed father.
"I just wanted to come home" he said weekly hoping that the king would find it in his cold heart to let Peter stay, to understand that Peter didn't want to be rich or powerful.
"Oh, kid you were already home" he said smiling,
"No, this is my home, I won't be going back" Peter said determination burning in his eyes.
"Why would you want to stay in this dump."
"This dump is my home, it's where my family is. Why can't you understand that" peter responded furious.
"family" the man scoffed "I'm your family now, kid, you better start to get used to it."
"No, you're not, you'll never be."
"Is that how you're going to act, Peter."
"How else do you expect me to act, Mr. Stark. I changed that answers for a reason, I didn't want any of this, I wanted to stay with my aunt."
Mr. Stark eyes sparked with realization and for a second, Peter thought that the man would let him go, instead he did something worse.
"Do you remember what I said in our first talk, Kid, what I warned you about?"
Peter shook his head in horror "please, Mr. Stark" he begged.
"You brought this upon yourself Peter" was his only answer.
Peter watched in slow motion, as the king took out a gun and pointed at his aunt, he could hear himself scream and beg, the guards holding him in place. The gun went off, and Peter world fell silent.
"NO, MAY" he yelled as he watched his aunt clothes staining in red, and her eyes losing focus.
"Noo" he said weakly, his legs losing strength "no, no no "he said over and over again.
"Take him to the car" he heard the order, although the voice seemed far away. He could only see his aunt laying on the dirty ground, and it was all his fault.
"What did you do" no one answer him as he was locked in the back of the car. Tears running down his face, Peter now wished that he never ran away in the first place. It got his aunt killed and it was all his fault.
He cried loudly as the car drove away, he cried until he couldn't no more, until his throat was scrapped raw, and his eyes burned. He vaguely noticed someone taking him out of the car and strapped him in a seat, before the king was once again crouched in front of him.
"Oh, Kid" he said a hand resting on his cheek "it will be ok, we're going home" he reassured but it only made him cry harder.
"Give him something to calm down" he heard the king order someone before he felt a pinch on his neck.
He gasped at the pain, feeling ice running down his veins robbing him of his strength "It's ok, it's ok, just relax when you wake up, we will be home"
One final tear escaped his eyes before he closed his eyes, his head falling on someone's shoulder.
