Chapter Ten

My back arched, and I gripped the sheets.

"Fuck!" I panted. "Adam!"

I moved my hands so they dug into his back. Adam growled, pumping harder into me. My toes curled as I moaned.

"Oh God!" I cried. Adam suddenly pulled out, and I whimpered, "What are you doing? Don't stop!"

"Get on your knees."

"What?"

Adam leaned closer. "I won't say it again."

Shakily, I turned so I was on all fours. Adam ran his hand along my spine, then over the curve of my ass. I shuddered at the sensation. I'd never experienced anything like this, a desire so intense that touch was enough to make me come undone. I breathed heavily beneath his touch and felt a finger enter my ass.

I hissed, "Oh my God." My head dropped as I gripped the sheets. I looked over my shoulder. "Are you going to fuck me there?"

Adam chuckled. "No. You're too tight." He pulled his finger out, and once again, I whimpered at the loss of contact. "We'll work there."

The tip of his dick teased my entrance before he slowly sunk in. Breath escaped in a hum from him.

"God," he breathed. "You're so wet. Is it all for me, honey?"

Honey.

The way he said it, so sure that I'm his.

"Yes."

He growled as he moved in and out of me, his hand wrapping around my waist until his fingers claimed my clit. I cried out, the feeling of him filling me and his fingers circling me. My legs quaked as I tried to fight the inevitable, but it was no use. I came, and came, and came. Adam quickly followed, his body tensing before his chest made contact with my back.

He pulled out once we regained our breath, and I fell onto my back. Adam slid out of bed and went to his bathroom, where I assumed he had disposed of the condom. I couldn't help but smile as he returned to bed, gloriously naked.

Adam immediately pulled me into his arms, kissing my temple.

"Good for you?"

"Too good. I think I'll need a repeat soon."

Adam chuckled.

I ran my finger through his light chest hair, savoring the feeling of being wrapped in his embrace.

"What now?"

"Now, we sleep."

I was exhausted from the multiple orgasms Adam had given me, but at the same time, I felt restless.

"'Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires.'"

I sat up and looked at him.

"What?"

"It's from Macbeth. It's about him asking for the stars to hide his dark desires."

"Isn't Macbeth incredibly violent, and his desire for violence ends up being his downfall or something."

"Or something," Adam agreed.

I pushed him playfully, and he laughed. He pulled me closer and kissed my temple.

"I'm a very kind person. I don't wish violence on anyone."

"Who said I thought your dark desires had to do with violence? I figured they had more to do with my cock."

I squirmed, clenching my legs together. Just the thought of it was enough to make me wet again.

"You'll have to excuse me for thinking you were saying something untoward with a quote from a play about a tyrannical leader who murdered his way to the top versus you thinking you know my carnal thoughts about you."

Adam laughed a deep laugh. It was a laugh I'd only seen him give to Horloge and Bougie– well– also me.

"Go to sleep, honey."

Adam again kissed my head, and I melted at all of it. Everything was perfect, and just before sleep overtook me, I remembered that we were hunting one of the most notorious and dangerous criminal organizations the world has ever known.

Shipping containers?

Why are there so many shipping containers?

The surface I stood on was slick and wet. Arrows pointed in various directions down corridors of multicolored Sea-Cans.

Why am I here?

I looked around for a landmark. Seagulls screamed, and the ocean hitting the side of the dock was so loud that it almost hurt.

Through the containers, I saw a tall, recognizable building.

La Tour Sarnoît. I was in Sarnoît.

My heart rate quickened. I felt at my hip; no gun. Shit. This wasn't good. I tried to call out for Adam. Nothing.

"Isabelle."

The hairs on my neck rose, and my breath became ragged. The voice had come from behind me. I slowly peered over my shoulder, but I was still alone.

"Isabelle."

"Who are you?"

"I am the man who will kill you."

I ran.

I had no gun, and based on the fact that it didn't feel like I was wearing a two-kilogram wool coat, I was also not wearing any type of protection from my pursuer. No backup. It was just me against an unknown.

I pressed my back against a container. My heart was pounding, and I did my best to slow my panting breaths.

"Isabelle."

The voice was close. Too close.

"You killed her!"

"Isabelle!"

Everything was blurry, and I felt violently ill. I didn't even have a chance to warn Adam before I heaved over the side of his bed. Adam tenderly rubbed between my shoulders as I shuddered and shook.

"It was just a bad dream," Adam said softly.

I shook my head. "It wasn't a dream." The room finally came into focus, and I turned to look at him. "I had a vision."
