It Never Ends
Rachel and (Y/n) are sitting next to each other, waiting for their turn. They turned their heads when the door opened. "You're getting a little old to be crabbing out there, Cal." The woman said. "Your body's about outlived its warranty, you know." "You ain't exactly the catch of the day." He replied. "Oh... let's see you catch one better!" The woman turned around. "Good afternoon.
I'm Dr. Grasnik." She introduced. Rachel and (Y/n) stand up. "I think he was here before us." (Y/n) pointed to the teenage boy. She turned in his direction. "Darby? Darby's always here. Aren't you, Darby?" She asked as she approached him. "He's my son's boy. Come over on the ferry, did you?" Rachel nodded. "Yes." "Um... have you lived here long?" (Y/n) asked as she glanced out the window, then back to her. "Born and raised." She said proudly. "Only doctor on the island." She admitted. "Then you know the Morgans and their daughter." Rachel said, making her stop walking, her smile fading.
"Do you know their daughter?" Rachel asked. "Do you know their daughter?" The boy mocked. Rachel looked at him for a moment. "What's this about?" Dr. Grasnik asked suspiciously. "Look I'm sorry, I-I don't know how to say this but we're seeing things in our heads-- images-- and so is my son. My son, and sister, that... that's why l'm here. And somehow, I don't know how, but... it's because of that girl." Rachel said. It was silent for a while. "Haven't heard anybody say that in a long time."
They walked outside, where Darby was spinning himself over and over again on a merry go round. "She wanted a child more than anything. Poor Anna. They tried hard for years but sometimes it's just not meant to be. Then one winter, they went away. When they came back it was with Samara. Adopted, they said. Never did say from where. Said the mother had died of complications. But they had their baby, they had their horses, everything was fine... till Anna started coming to see me.
Said she was suffering visions... seeing things... horrible things... like they'd been burned inside her. That it only happened around Samara... that the girl put them there." She took a sip of her drink. "Were you Samara's doctor, too?" (Y/n) asked, and she nodded. "Was there anything wrong with her?" (Y/n) asked. "You mean medically?" Dr. Grasnik asked. "I mean whatever you mean." (Y/n) said. They turned to the boy spinning on the merry go round.
"When Darby there was born... we knew something wasn't right with him..." Dr. Grasnik made a hand gesture. "But we loved him anyway. Takes work, you know. Some people have limits." She said. "So, what happened to her?" Rachel asked. "I referred them to Eola Psychiatric on the mainland. I assume she's still there." Dr. Grasnik said. "You don't know? How can you not know?" (Y/n) asked teasingly. "We've been through... a lot of hard years out here... mean winters... small hauls, no fish..." she turned to face them again. "And that was long before the horses.
"See, when you live on an island, you catch a cold, it's everybody's cold." Dr. Grasnik said. "No offense, ma'am, but what the hell does that mean?" (Y/n) asked. "It means ever since that girl's been gone, things have been better." That night, Rachel and (Y/n) walk back to Mr. Morgan's house. (Y/n) knocked on the door. "Hello?" She then realized the door was open, and peered inside. "Mr. Morgan?" She and Rachel walked into his house.
"Mr. Morgan?" (Y/n) called out, still getting no answer. They walked into a room that had a shelf full of trophies at the top, and Rachel pushed another door open that led to the room with the mirror. (Y/n) stared at her reflection in the mirror for a moment, remembering the little girl in that same mirror back on the tape. Rachel noticed the box next to them, and found a fake birth certificate inside for Samara. When she tried to look at the next paper, a giant centipede was crawling on it. (Y/n) shrieked in surprise and Rachel dropped the papers.
(Y/n) narrowed her eyes as she saw a tape that was titled #SMOO15 sticking out of the tape recorder. She pushed in the tape, and hit play. It showed a little girl sitting on her hospital bed, then staring at the clock on the wall, then she stood by the door, and stared at the camera. "This is SM0015. Samara Morgan, hour four." They tied her wrists and ankles to a chair. "So, what is that's keeping you awake? You must sleep sometime. Do you dream about something?"
The girl remained silent. "Samara?" He grabbed a dark sheet of paper that showed a rocking horse on the ocean. "Let's talk about the pictures. How did you make them?" The doctor asked. She still wouldn't give him an answer. "Samara? How did you make these pictures?" The doctor held them up. Finally she responded. "I don't... make them. I see them. And then they just... are." She said quietly. "Samara, I need you to start telling me the truth, okay?" The doctor asked. "Can I see my mommy?" Samara asked innocently. "No Samara, not until we understand what's wrong with you." The doctor said. "I love my mommy." She said quietly.
"Yes you do, but you don't want to hurt her anymore, now do you? You don't want to hurt anyone." The doctor said. "But I do, and I'm sorry. It won't stop." "Well, that's why you're here. So that I can help you to make it stop." The doctor said. "He's going to leave me here." Samara said. "Who?" The doctor asked. "Daddy." The girl replied. "They just wanna help you." The doctor said. "Not daddy." Samara said. "Your daddy loves you." The doctor said. "Daddy loves the horses. He wants me to go away." Samara said.
Rachel and (Y/n) didn't notice Mr. Morgan standing behind them. "No he doesn't." The doctor said. "But he doesn't know..." Samara said. "He doesn't know what? Samara?" The little girl lifted her head slightly. When they turned around, Mr. Morgan knocked them down. "She's never gonna whisper in my fucking ear ever again!" He said as he unplugged the tv. (Y/n) held her head in pain. "What did you do to her?" She shouted. She and Rachel quickly followed him.
"She was your daughter!" (Y/n) shouted furiously. They clumsily made their way up the stairs. "You killed Samara didn't you?" Rachel accused. "You killed her and when your wife-" "My wife was not supposed to have children!" He shouted furiously. They looked down to see wires on the floor, and saw him turning on a tv in the bathroom. "Mr. Morgan-" (Y/n) stepped into water on the floor, and quickly stepped back. "What are you doing in there?" She asked fearfully. "The whispers. You hear them all the time at night, in your sleep. Even the damn horses." He replied.
"Mr. Morgan, get out of there." (Y/n) said shakily. "And those pictures, oh, good Christ. The things she'd show you." He said. "She's still showing them." Rachel said. "And she'll never stop. You two coming here proves that." He connected himself to multiple outlets, then stepped into the water filled tub. "Where is she? Please. I have to stop her. If I don't, my son and sister will die!" Rachel shouted desperately. Mr. Morgan nodded. "Oh yes, they will. She never sleeps..." "wait, no!" (Y/n) realized what he was about to do. But it was too late. "NO!" Rachel and (Y/n) shouted. They screamed and backed out of the room as he electrocuted himself in the tub.
They continued to scream and flail around, until they heard a familiar voice. "Rachel! (Y/n)! Guys, guys! Shh shh! Hey, it's all right!" Noah shouted, trying to calm them down. Noah began shushing them softly. "It's okay, it's okay. Shh. You're okay." Noah said gently. They eventually calmed down. "You two okay?" Noah asked, and they nodded. "Oh, Jesus." Noah said as he realized what happened. A sudden realization hit (Y/n). "She doesn't like the barn. The horses keep her up at night." She began walking away. "She doesn't like the barn."
She repeated. "What?" Noah and Rachel asked. (Y/n) pushes some curtains aside. "The horses keep her awake." Noah uses a shovel to break into the barn, and turn on the light. Rachel and (Y/n) notice the long ladder. It led up to what looked like a small room. "Samara." (Y/n) whispered. She climbed up the ladder first, then Rachel, then Noah followed. At the top, they saw a tv, a chair, a bed, a music box sitting on a night stand beside the bed, and some toys in the corner, along with a rocking horse beside the tv.
"He kept her here. The mother was going crazy." Rachel said as they walked in. "Morgan blamed the child." Rachel said. "So he kept her here. Alone." (Y/n) stopped the music box that was playing. "Not alone." Noah said, and they looked at him. (Y/n) touched the chair in the room, then looked at her reflection in the tv. Noah noticed something on the wall. "Rachel, (Y/n)." They turned to the wall. He touched the wall where the wallpaper had ripped. "There's something under here." He began to tear through the wallpaper. "It looks like it's etched into the wood." Noah said.
(Y/n) pulled down her sleeve, and looked at the burn on her arm, then back at the picture on the wood. "Or burned." The trio shared a glance, then rapidly began tearing down the wallpaper. They took a few steps back, and the image was a tree. "We've seen this tree before." Rachel said. "Yeah, it was on the tape." Noah said. (Y/n) shook her head, then shared a glance with Rachel. "No, we've been there." Rachel nodded in agreement. "Shelter Mountain."
~Wednesday Day 7~
They drove back to Shelter Mountain. "The sun came through the leaves, lit them up like it was on fire. Right at sunset. Right when we watched the tape." (Y/n) looked at Rachel. "That was a week ago." Rachel sat down on the sofa and sighed heavily. "We're back to where we started from." (Y/n) shook her head. "Something led us here." She said. "The tree, the drawing, the wall-" "it doesn't matter. We're too late." Rachel shook her head, then looked at Noah. "You have to help him." "What are you talking about?" Noah asked cautiously. "Aidan."
His eyes widened. "It's up to you now. Use the time you have and figure something out." Rachel said. "We'll figure this out together, right now!" Noah shouted. "It's too late, Noah!" (Y/n) shouted. "Stop it, okay? There's a reason that we're here!" He shouted. "What?" Rachel asked. "I don't know, okay? There's something in this room! I mean, it's in this phone!" He angrily grabbed the phone and threw it across the room. The jar filled with marbles crashed. "It's in this television!"
Rachel and (Y/n) flinched, then Rachel noticed the marbles on the floor. "Tell us now, why don't you?!" "Noah, (Y/n)." Rachel said quietly. She and Noah turned to what she was looking at. The marbles all seemed to go in one place on the floor. (Y/n) removed the table, and saw the marbles have formed an arrow on the carpet. They removed the carpet, and saw grass sticking out from underneath the floor. Rachel reached down and touched it, then took a piece of grass off, then looked at (Y/n). Noah grabbed a tool and began to wack away at the floor. Rachel looked out the window, and (Y/n) grabbed a flashlight from under the sink. They looked down to see a big well. Noah stood on the well, then grabbed Rachel and helped her down, then helped (Y/n) down.
They circled the well, then slowly pushed it open, and looked down. It looked like a long drop. "Aw, Jesus." Noah said as (Y/n) used the flashlight to try and look inside. "How far down do you think it goes?" He asked. "I can't see anything." Rachel said. The tv back in the cabin flickered. The trio continued to look down. "Maybe we should drop something." Noah suggested. The tv began flicking again and water began to come out. Rachel held a giant rock over the well, then dropped it in. They barely heard it hit the bottom. "Do you think she's down there?" (Y/n) asked.
"Shh..." Rachel heard rumbling coming from the well. They shared a glance, then looked back down, until suddenly a bunch of flies flew out of the well. They flailed their arms wildly, trying to shoo them away. In all the chaos, a tv fell from the cabin floor and knocked (Y/n) into the well. "(Y/N)!" Rachel and Noah shouted as she fell in. (Y/n) was unconscious under the water for a few minutes, then quickly swam out, gasping for breath and splashing around. "(Y/n)!" Rachel shouted. "(Y/n)!" Noah shouted. "I'm here!" She called hoarsely. "I'm all right! I think..." she looked around. "We'll go find something to get you out!" Rachel shouted. "Hurry!" (Y/n) shouted.
She grabbed the flashlight and looked around the well. As she flashed the light around, she saw what looked like a broken nail. She picked it up, then remembered the scene from the tape of someone cutting their nail, and quickly dropped the nail. She looked up, and saw the well begin to close slowly. "Noah? Rachel?" She didn't get an answer, and the well continued to close. "Noah?! Rachel?! Guys!" The well closed shut. (Y/n) begins breathing heavily as she quickly looked around, excepting Samara or something else to jump out at her at any second.
She shined the flashlight into the water, and grabbed a small amount of black hair. She pulled a bit more of it out of the water, and suddenly a hand grabbed her arm and she gasped. "(Y/n)!" She heard a voice, then got a vision. A young little girl was standing in front of the same well. "Here we go, the world is spinning. When it stops, it's just beginning." Samara stared into the distance as her mother approached from behind. "Isn't it beautiful here, Samara?" The girl didn't answer and continued to stare into the distance. "So peaceful." Anna walked behind her. Samara closed her eyes and looked down.
"I know things will get better." Anna said comfortingly. She suddenly put a trash bag over her head, and Samara pushed and struggled, trying to get out of her grasp, but all of her attempts were futile. A single tear fell from Anna's eyes. "All I ever wanted was you two." Anna shoved Samara into the well, once she was underwater at the bottom, her eyes opened and she saw her mother closing the well. (Y/n) gasped in horror and her eyes shot open. She looked down at the new mark on her hand, then at the burn on her arm. "She was still alive." (Y/n) whispered.
In sudden desperation, she began searching the water. "Where did you go?" Suddenly the body of Samara floated up from the bottom of the water and (Y/n) grabbed her the way a caring mother or big sister would. She rubbed her forehead gently. "It's okay now. You're okay." (Y/n) said shakily with tears. She moved a string of Samara's brown hair away from her face. Now that she got a closer look, she resembled (Y/n) quite a lot, despite the age difference between them.
"(Y/n)!" Rachel shouted. But she no longer shared that resemblance when her body began to fade away into a skeleton. "(Y/n) the sun's set!" Noah shouted. "The sun has set! It's past sunset! Do you hear us?!" Noah shouted. (Y/n) looked up. "(Y/n)!" Rachel shouted. She looked down at the skeleton she was holding, then for some reason, she reluctantly let it go and let it sink back into the water. "(Y/n) are you there?" Rachel shouted. She shivered, suddenly realizing how cold it was. "I'm here." Later that night, (Y/n) had been rescued and brought back to safety, Rachel hugged her once she was out, and (Y/n) hugged her back, tears rolling down her face. "They're going to bury her next week." Noah informed as (Y/n) sat on a log, Rachel sat next to her and tried to comfort her.
Noah sat on (Y/n)'s other side. "You okay?" He asked softly. "She wanted that child more than anything in the world." (Y/n) said shakily. "How could she have done that?" Noah and Rachel looked at her. "She just wanted to be heard. Sometimes children... yell or cry, or draw pictures." (Y/n) said as more tears fell from her eyes. Rachel looked at her. And (Y/n) stared back. "I want to go home." Rachel nodded. "Come here." (Y/n) leaned into her and cried, as Rachel rubbed her back. "I can't imagine being stuck down a well all alone like that." Noah said.
"How long could you survive?" Rachel asked. Realization hit (Y/n) and she sat up and looked at them. "Seven days." Rachel and Noah looked at her. "You could survive for seven days." (Y/n) leaned into her sister again. The trio walked into the room and saw Aidan asleep on the floor. Noah picked him up, and they drove back together. On the drive back, Aidan opened his eyes and smiled when he saw Noah and Rachel hold hands, then closed his eyes. (Y/n) was the one to tuck him in. She closed the door, then took a shower.
Time Skip ⏭️
Aidan was sleeping in his bed, and (Y/n) was lying beside him. She put her hand on his arm, and he slowly woke up, then smiled and turned to face her. "(Y/n)? What time is it?" He asked. "It's either really late or really early... depending on how you look at it." Aidan smiled. "Don't you have to be at work?" She smiled back. "Not today." She rubbed his back. "What happened to the girl?" Aidan asked. "Samara?" (Y/n) asked. "Is that her name? Well, she knew yours.
So I guess it's not that surprising." He said softly. "Is she still in the dark place?" (Y/n) shook her head. "No, we set her free." Aidan quickly sat up. "You helped her?" He asked warily. "Yeah." (Y/n) said. "Why did you do that?" Aidan asked. (Y/n) sat up. "What's wrong?" She asked. "You weren't supposed to help her." Aidan said. (Y/n) shook her head. "It's okay now. She's not going to hurt you. She-" she stopped as she saw the same burn on Aidan's arm as she rolled up his sleeve. "Don't you understand, (Y/n)? She never sleeps." Blood poured down his nose.
Meanwhile Rachel was helping Noah with work until suddenly the tv came on to static. The duo shared a glance, then looked over at the tv. Noah spun his chair over to look at the screen. Rachel slowly walked over, then grabbed the remote and shut the tv off. She put the remote down, and they began to walk away, until the tv turned back on. They slowly turned around, to see the same well on the tv, surrounded by dead trees. Rachel's heart stopped, and she turned to the phone that began to ring.
"Pick up the phone, Rachel." (Y/n) gave Aidan some tissues for his bloody nose. "Come on, pick up." (Y/n) urged. Instead of answering the phone, Rachel and Noah walked closer to the screen to get a better look. Their eyes widened in horror when they saw a little girl begin to crawl out. The screen flickered violently as she walked towards them. She was ever so slowly making her way closer. (Y/n) began driving to the place her sister and her boyfriend were. "Come on, Rachel! Pick up the goddamn phone!" She heard a loud honk and quickly drove out of a bus's way before she crashed into it.
Rachel and Noah slowly backed away from the tv, and once the girl crawled out of it, Noah fell down in shock and surprise and Rachel screamed. They quickly stood up and began scrambling away from the girl as she crawled closer, leaving wet puddles on the floor. She stood up and was suddenly in front of them, causing them to fall and knock down a shelf and cut themselves from the shattered glass. They began crawling away as Samara walked closer. She then revealed her face from her long black hair and they screamed.
(Y/n) quickly got out of the car and ran to the elevator, but it didn't open. "Come on!" She banged on it, then quickly ran up all of the stairs into the room. She saw the big mess, and saw Rachel sitting in a chair in the middle of the room. Noah was nowhere to be seen. She slowly ended her call and the phone in the room stopped ringing. She slowly made her way to the chair. She paused and looked down, seeing all the blood and glass on the floor. Then continued making her way over to Rachel. She slowly reached out to touch the chair, then quickly spun it around and screamed. As she quickly ran back down the stairs, she saw Beth waiting by the elevator. Tears were streaming down her face as she held a bloody tissue. She angrily crumpled the tissue.
Once she got back to the apartment, Aidan was on the couch drawing, and turned to look at her distressed face. "Got to your room!" She suddenly shouted. "Now!" He quickly ran off. (Y/n) quickly stormed in and grabbed the tape from her purse, then smashed it into pieces. "What do you want?!" She demanded. "What do you want from me?!" She sobbed, her voice breaking. She continued to smash the tape, then threw it in the fireplace and burned it. She shook her head. "Why not me? What did I do that they didn't?" She sobbed.
Realization tore into her and she trailed her eyes to the copy under the sofa. She picked it up and looked at it closely. "She just wanted to be heard" "he wants me to go away" "My wife was not supposed to have children!" "All I ever wanted was you two" "but he doesn't know" "she never sleeps" "and force the world to experience it. You spread it like sickness" Samara smirked. "But I do. And I'm sorry. It won't stop." "I love my mommy and sissy" "I made a copy." The next day, (Y/n) helped Aidan make his own copy. Aidan turned to her. "It's going to keep killing, isn't it? She'll never stop." "Don't worry, sweetie. You're gonna be okay." He looked back at the screens, then at (Y/n) again. "What about the person we show it to? What happens to them?" (Y/n) stared at the tv, then it went to static.
