Chapter 5
It was now a couple years later and I had become faster, stronger and generally better than I was before.
I made an new friend who's spy name was Tree. Yeah, I know but I only saw him for a month and then he was called to a mission and hasn't come back since.
I became an JS with the spy name Flame which was awesome but I'd tried becoming an JYAS but I just couldn't do all the computery thingys I had to know. Even though I'd taken hours of extra classes in learning how to do it.
Snowflower was on a top secret undercover mission but was due back in with couple of days after two years away. Daniel managed to pass his JYAS exams and so now his spy name was Angelwing and the danger to the base was actually a test for him.
Now I was sat in the Bigwig Mission room wondering why I was here.
"You may be wondering why you are here Flame." The woman said to me.
"No Ma'am." I said back trying not to laugh.
"It has come to my attention that you wanted to become a JYAS Spy and unfortunately you never seem to be able to complete it." The woman looked at her notes.
"I have an opportunity to give you to become one even though you haven't passed the test for the err, ninth time."
I lent closer interested now.
"I have a mission for you, it is something you can do and requires no technology to worry about." The woman then gave me the papers she was holding.
Operation WildWest.
For the intended spy Flame
Not to be taken or copied
The Indians of the wild west has been in conflict with the civilized communities over space.
The USA has decided they need to have more space and want to move the local tribe called Wolf Tribe, without casualties on either side.
Your task is to infiltrate their ranks and become one of them. You will then have to convince them to move away from the land their in so that the USA can have their land.
You shall meet Spy Tree who is undercover at the moment but is unknown what alias he is under.
"When do I start?" I asked excitedly.
"As soon as you sign your name." The woman said.
I signed my name straight away and stood up and followed the woman to the private jet and said goodbye to the grounds that had been my home and safety.
After a two hour ride I was put into a dusty old land rover and into the Wild West territory.
"We're going to have to make it look like you've been left to die." A gruff sergeant said.
I shrugged. "Hit me with your best shot."
The sergeant hit me and and I heard a crunch from my nose and some blood fell.
"Are you ok? I didn't mean to do it that hard!" The man said concerned.
I shook off his concerns. "I've dealt with worse." That was a lie of course but I knew I would later on this mission.
They drove off and left me.
Shaking my head I laid down on the floor and pretended to be unconscious.
I stayed there for a couple hours trying not to move til I heard thundering hooves and then listened to the people who were on them with my eyes closed.
"Jehudiel! Come quick! There's and Outsider here!" A voice said.
I felt a hand turn me over carefully.
I felt a hand by my pulse. "She's alive but injured." The person reported.
"We need to take her to Healer." A new voice said.
"But she's an Outsider."
"I'm well aware of who she is Bromble." Jehudiel snapped.
"What If she's trouble for the tribe?" A different voice said.
"And what if she's not Tree? Help me lift her on to my horse."
I felt myself being lifted up and it took all my strength to stay floppy.
I couldn't last the whole journey to the camp though and I opened my eyes and pretended to wake up.
I found myself in the arms of a sweaty male.
I screamed and struggled against my captives arms and fell to the floor banging my arm.
Three horses ran around me in a circle and then stopped each with a bare chests.
"Who are you?" One of the three males asked.
"Flame." I said.
"Are you an Outsider?" The person asked.
"I don't really have many friends so I guess yes?" I said gingerly touching my nose.
"Flame, child of the Outsiders, we are taking you to our Tribe." The man said.
"T..t.tribe?" I said.
The man nodded.
"Come back onto my horse, I won't hurt you, yet." The man said beckoning to me.
Knowing I had no choice I got back on and we went to the camp which was ten minutes away.
The camp was like a small village, many people and children walking around.
The man helped me off his horse and told one of the others who'd come with him to put his horse away for him.
An older man came out holding onto a stick.
"My son, what is this commotion I feel in the Spirit world?"
The man next to me bowed.
"Father, I found a young Outsider in our land."
He stepped aside and let him see me properly.
"She's injured, what happened?" The old man asked.
"We found her unconscious like it."
"Thank you Jehudiel, come child, into my tent, I shall look at your nose."
With a glance at the crowd I followed the man in.
He poured some water into a cauldron like thing and motioned me to sit on the bed on the floor.
Lifting my face he checked my nose and turned back to the water.
"What is your name?" He asked me.
"Flame." I said.
"Unusual name for an Outsider." He commented as he poured out a cup of water and hobbled back to me with it. "Drink." He told me.
I took it from him and blew on it and took a tentative sip.
It was nice and warm with a hint of lavender.
After half of the drink was drunk and it had got cold I began to feel sleepy and I closed my eyes.
When I woke up my nose hurt but now it was put into place.
Walking out the tent I saw a crowd and watched what was going on.
"Great mother of all, we welcome a young boy into adulthood. He has reached fifteen years and is now time to receive one of your special animals as a guide and protector for the remainder of his live.
Spirits of the Wild, we hear you, we see you and now we plead you, accept this boy as one of your own, I have listened to you and now I ask the Spirit of the Coyote to protect this boy.
With as sharp blade the old man began cutting into the right hand side of the boys chest and then smeared it with black dust. The boy turned around and showed everyone the picture carved in his skin.
"Spirit of the Coyote, you are bonded with this boy, the boy will remember and look after you."
Everyone cheered and said congratulations then left and went back to whatever they were doing.
The old man hobbled back to the tent, where I was standing outside of.
"Inside." The man said.
I followed him in.
"Let me look at your nose."
The man inspected my nose, prodding it at times before sitting down in front of me.
"I am Jamboree Healer of the Wolf Tribe, second leader for the leader, speaker of the Spirits member of the healing hearth, also known as Wolf Healer, protected by the Wolf Spirit."
I frowned at his words. "Ok, well, I'm Flame citizen of the United Kingdom and well, nothing else?"
A woman walked in. "Jamboree, I was told to come here."
"Kyra, I'm glad your here, please, make your associations with our guest."
The woman turned to me. "I am Kyra, daughter of Milo and Bondi, Hunter of the Wolf Tribe born to the Fifth hearth and protected by the Spirit of the Zebra."
I noticed an zebra looking animal tattoo on her leg.
"Hi, what was that just now?" I asked confused.
"A rite of passage ceremony. When a girl or boy reaches the age of fifteen they are deemed worthy of receiving a Spirit to guide them through their life. Grub became of age and received his own." Jamboree told me.
"I would like you to take our guest to Wolf Leader." Jamboree told Kyra.
She nodded and helped me up.
"Come, Wolf Leader does not like to be kept waiting."
I was taken through the camp and I tried not to notice when everyone stopped and began whispering about me.
Children stopped playing and his behind large baskets that were being made by woman outside tents. Racks over fires held meat or hides drying or being cured.
Each tent had the same picture as Jamboree's tattoo but also had different pictures as well but the tent that I was taken to had a large wolf on it with littler wolves around it.
Kyra knocked on a metal thing at the front of the door and waited till we heard a "come in" from inside.
Following Kyra I walked into the Wolf Leader's tent and stood awkwardly by the entrance.
"Come in, sit down and be comfortable." The man said.
I sat down and looked at the man more closely. He had long black hair and a couple feathers and a blue bead. On his forehead was the Wolf tattoo.
"You are from the Others?" The man asked.
"If you mean by not being like you, yes." I answered.
The man grunted. "We shall wait for Wolf Healer before we start."
"Start? The start of what?" I frowned worriedly.
"Don't worry. We just want to ask you some questions." The wolf leader said.
Jamboree walked in holding a cup of hot tea. "Here, drink." He said pouring it out for me then everyone else.
I looked at it and put it down. "No." I shook my head. "Last time I drank one of your drinks I fell asleep for God knows when."
The two men looked at each other for a second.
"Tell me then, why are you in our land?" The leader said.
"I was taken here, then knocked unconscious and they left me here." I told them.
"Who's they? Others like you?"
"I suppose you could say that." I shrugged.
"Why did you get left here?" The healer asked.
"Cuz they didn't like me? They hated me? Cuz I had to steal to survive? I dunno, you tell me." I said.
"What do you mean?"
"Someone killed my family and so I lived on my own having to steal from people, to cut things short one of the people who'd I'd stole from found me and left me here to die or be killed." I said sticking to the story I was told to say.
"How old are you?" The healer asked.
"Fourteen, but it's my birthday in a month."
"In a year there will be representatives for your people coming to bargain for land. We shall keep you here and hand you back over to them, while your here though, you shall live like us, learn about us and be like us." The leader said.
"What?" I said disbelieving.
"You shall receive a Spirit to look after you in a month if a Spirit's are willing, I hope that you return our hospitality." The leader said.
"Where will I live?"
"With Kyra and her family. You shall share their hearth til you get your Spirit and then be moved to that animal's hearth."
Kyra bowed and stood up. "Thank you wise Wolf Leader, Wolf Healer, Spirits of the Wild."
"Before you go, what's your name?" The leader said.
"Flame."
"Then I wish you well Flame, may the Spirits guide you to your destiny."
