{Chapter 8}

As we drove back into town again, something weird happened; the same thing that happened the first time.

As we drove past the town line with the sign that said, "Welcome to Eerie Falls!" a bright flash went across the sky.

"Whoa!" I said, but, yet again, my mom acted like nothing happened.

Why was that happening again? Is it because I left and now I am back? But if that's the case, then my dad would have to be Magnus...

We got to our house and I locked myself in my room. What was happening? Everyone would die soon if we didn't find out what was going on, and we didn't really have a choice to stop doing what we were already doing, so it seemed pretty doomed. Part of me just wanted me and my family to leave before anything bad happened, but I couldn't leave everyone else to die...

We drove home, I put my new clothes in my dusty closet, and went out to the gatehouse to see if there was anything else left to find out about Magnus before the end of the world.

Or at least the end of me...

*_*_*_*

Nothing was at the Gatehouse, but I wasn't giving up yet. My parents forced me to stay and write my story for the school.

So a whole day when by, and all I had gotten to do was write my story.

It was about 8 o'clock, and I was going to head over to the Gatehouse, and see if Phoenix and I could come up with a plan.

But when I got there, Phoenix was in the bedroom facing the wall. "Phoenix...?" I said.

She slowly turned to me, tears streaming down her face. "Phoenix? What's wrong?" I asked, confused as to why she was crying in the gatehouse.

"Magnus came to me today, and threatened to kill me if I kept helping you... And I believe him... Because he cut my wrist..." She showed me her wrist, and I gasped and said, "Oh my god..."

Her wrist was all bloody and had a huge gash on it. And since this place didn't have bandaids or sinks to wash it off. That was a definitely going to be infected. "Oh god, we need to get this fixed!" I said, trying to pull her out the bedroom door. But she wouldn't move.

"You need to stop... Otherwise, you are going to die too. My arm is fine, but we can't see eachother. Don't worry, when I saw Magnus, I gave him a nice punch in the face... But I payed for it... I just have something to tell you. First, I don't know who Magnus is, but you really have to be careful. He might threaten you.

"And second... If I die, give Magnus this letter." She said, handing me a piece of paper. I nodded, and she said, "Get out of here, he will be back anytime soon!" I nodded, gave Phoenix a hug, and said, "I will save you, I promise..." I left the house, with tears streaming down my face.

Magnus was going to die. I was going to kill him. I had had enough of this.

I went home and slept, because tomorrow would be a big day. Tomorrow, this was going to end.

*_*_*_*

It was now October 29th, and I had slept in for a long time, almost a whole 12 hours.

I didn't exactly know how I was going to find and kill Magnus, but I was confident that I was going to find him tonight.

I got mentally prepared, mainly so that I would be ready for whatever happens tonight. I was kind of nauseous/nervous, but I didn't have a choice; Magnus had to die so I could save the city.

Many questions flew through my head, and I did my best to try and catch them and answer them.

"What was Magnus afraid of?"
"Who is Magnus?"
"Is he hiding from something?"
"What could it be?"
"Where was he?"
"Is Phoenix going to die tonight?"
"If I am his child, then wouldn't I have his Magic...?"

The last question was the only one I could maybe get an answer for. I remembered what the ghost had said about how if me and Phoenix needed him again, but I completely forgot what he wanted us to say... Something about the ghost of Eerie Falls, but in French...

I took out my phone and used Google Translate to look up the French translation of "Come, Ghost of Eerie Falls."

I looked at the screen and did my best at the pronunciation.

"Venez, fantome de Eerie Chutes!" I said.

A puff of white appeared beside me and I gave myself a mental high-five for remembering what the summoning phrase was.

The raspy voice spoke. "You messed up the summoning phrase, it was 'Appel de 'l Esprit Errie Chutes' which isn't what you said... You are just luck that I was watching you the entire time..."

"I'm gonna ignore what you just said..." I said, un-highfiving myself in my head, if that were possible. "Anyway, Phoenix is in trouble, and I need your help... If I am Magnus's child, which I must be, then did I inherit Magic too?"

"Well, Magnus came from a direct bloodline, and everyone therefore after had a special power, but everyone's was different. Magnus had Magic, but I don't exactly know what you have. You won't find out until you are 24..." The spirit sighed, and said, "Is that all?"

"Not quite... Do you know where Magnus is right now?"

"No, but I was spying on him earlier, and he told Phoenix that he was going to be at the Gatehouse at 9 o'clock tonight..." The spirit said.

"Wait, do you know who Magnus is?!" I asked.

"Why, yes, of course!" The spirit said, in what sounded like an offended voice.

"Well WHY DON'T YOU TELL ME THEN?!" I said. Why was she mad, I am the one who was lied to!

"Because I would be breaking the code between my spirit and mortal connection, which would send me straight to hell. And I would prefer not to go to hell..." The spirit said. She drifted away, and I watched her go, my blood boiling. Why couldn't she just tell me?!

At least I got one useful piece of information: Where and When Magnus would be at the Gatehouse.

I just waited around my house and thought abut everything until it was about time to get ready. "Hey, I am going into town to buy a new dress for my first day of work in a few days, so stay at the house, because dad is going out too!" My mom said.

"Okay!" I said, lying. It was about 8:30, so I decided to play "The Final Countdown" by Europe. It was kind of like my game-time jam.

Ten minutes passed, and I decided that it was now or never.

I went outside the Gatehouse, and hid behind a shrub. I waited for any movement outside the building.

A few minutes passed, and I was getting really nervous.

Then, someone walked into the back entrance. I couldn't see if it was my dad or not, butit had to have been.

I waited two minutes and then heard a scream; Phoenix's scream.

I ran up to the Gatehouse door and sprinted up the stairs to the  bedroom. No one was in there. I ran up to the dresser, pushed it aside, and ran up the stairs to the bunker room.

I opened the door to the secret room and saw a horrifying sight. Phoenix was on the ground with a puddle of blood on the ground, and Magnus, who had his back to me, was holding a knife, standing over her.

"Turn around! Turn AROUND!" I screamed.

"Sure thing..." A voice said to me, that I had heard so many times. I knew who it was the second before I saw Magnus's face.

I watched "Magnus" turn around and face me, a smile on that horrible face.

"Hello, my son..." Magnus said. I was not going to be able to kill Magnus anymore.
