Chapter 9
LILLY: Ma, I'm here.
MUM: Hello babe! How was the flight?
LILLY: It was really good. How's Dad?
MUM: Give him time, he'll get used to it. This is your dream!
LILLY: I know! I'm so excited!
MUM: Now you enjoy your first week there. You start working for the rest of your life after that!
LILLY: I've been working ever since that restaurant was opened...
MUM: You know what I mean. What has Park Jimin said? Is he picking you up?
LILLY: Ma... that's complicated... he doesn't know I'm here.
MUM: Makeup with him already! He is a very attractive man!
LILLY: Ma...
MUM: Ok... How are you getting to the hotel then?
LILLY: Did you forget there are taxis in Korea too?
MUM: Wow, I won't miss that attitude. Call me later, okay?
LILLY: Okie dokie.
. . . . .
I'm here. I am finally here. I have secured a job with a big entertainment company. I will be a music producer, which is my dream.
I looked into all the entertainment companies, and I'd have preferred it if YG contacted me because they're my preferred style of music, but it's a good start anyway.
The company that contacted me is called Bighit Entertainment. I'm not sure how they got my contact details or how they saw my performance – I've asked, and they said that their informant will let me know when they're ready – but Bighit rings a bell somewhere in my brain. Is it one of the companies Kirra mentioned to me? I can't remember, but I haven't had time to ask anyone. My graduation ceremony was last week. It has been almost 2 weeks since I got my diploma. I packed my bags, organized my belongings, met the representative and booked flights all in that time.
Bighit accepted me and organized everything before 12 pm the next day. They are a fast-paced business, and probably a fast-paced environment, but I'm ready for it.
You don't work at a restaurant all your life without getting used to fast-paced work environments.
We exchanged emails, but I replied so early in the morning, I wasn't sure if they would reply.
Good morning,
I would love to work for you. I'll send through other work I did whilst studying for my diploma, my resume, and any other paperwork you need. Let me know when the representative will be heading to Australia and I will meet with them.
Kind regards,
Min Lilly.
But they responded very quickly. They sent me the representative's number – as they were already in Australia – and I met with them. We organised a day for a proper audition and then organised a day to read and sign the contract for the company. I'm not a trainee, but I am a staff member. I will meet and work alongside their top artists on my first day, which is next week.
It has been a very hectic beginning to my career, but I have never been this excited about anything in my life.
I take in a deep breath as I exit the airport. At the moment, Seoul is a little cloudy, but that won't dampen my mood.
As I hop into a taxi, I begin thinking about Jimin, and the other BTS members. They were all so nice to me that night, except for Jimin. Even Yoongi started giving me butterflies, but Jimin just brooded silently by himself. Eventually, he left before the other members. I haven't seen him since. He stopped messaging me, refused to accept my calls, just completely ignored me. I even tried calling Namjoon, but he still refused to speak to me.
I pout, frowning angrily.
Maybe it's better this way. I don't know what to do with my feelings anymore, but his insistence has completely removed my rose-tinted glasses, allowing me to think about everything. But I still miss him.
Once I arrive at the hotel and book in, I decide it's time for some payback.
Smirking, I message Jimin.
LILLY: Yah, where are you?
JIMIN: Korea?
LILLY: Yeah, I know. Meet up with me!
LILLY: Oops, I meant to message someone else. Sorry!
JIMIN: Yah! Are you in Seoul?
LILLY: Maybe
JIMIN: And you were planning to meet up with someone? Who? Who were you meant to message?
LILLY: I did this on purpose to wind you up. Do think I can't tell the difference between Korean characters?
JIMIN: Oh... right.
LILLY: So, meet up with me?
JIMIN: And if I don't?
LILLY: I can see if Yoongi Oppa is up~
JIMIN: YAH! You call him oppa, but not me? Does he know you're here? Have you already met with him?
LILLY: Calm down, I can feel your jealousy from here.
JIMIN: Who said I was jealous?
LILLY: No one ;)
JIMIN: Fine, you win! But I'm not spilling my feelings over a keyboard. Let's meet at your house.
LILLY: Y-Yah! If you come here people will think you're meeting a girl! I'm at a hotel!
JIMIN: I'll come through the back. What hotel?
LILLY: I'm at the GLAD hotel, Yeouido.
JIMIN: That's an alright hotel. I can upgrade you to the GRAND Hyatt in Seoul.
LILLY: I saw that one! It's over $500 a night!
JIMIN: But...
LILLY: I'm fine where I am.
JIMIN: But the GRAND is closer to me...
LILLY: It's fine if you can't come here.
JIMIN: I'm on my way.
Well, that didn't go how I planned.
I blush as I begin sorting out my things.
Should I let reception know?
No, just in case they spread rumours. Jimin will text me what to do.
I change my clothes and freshen up. While I am in the shower I begin to feel nervous. Is this really a good idea? He is angry at me and has been ignoring me for 2 weeks, intentionally.
Maybe it's a good idea. This way we can get it all out and figure out what we are doing, right?
Right! Everything will be fine.
I come back to my room, drying my hair before combing it.
Suddenly, something grabs my foot.
WHAT THE FRICK FRACK AHSHSGDFDSFKJ!
I scream bloody murder as I hear a small chuckle come from under the bed.
"Yah! How did you get in here?" I scream as he shuffles out from under there.
"I told you, I can sneak in anywhere as an Idol. The reception manager let me in," He smirks, brushing himself off. "You wouldn't have this problem at the GRAND"
I fold my arms, glaring at him. His grin slowly slides from his face.
"Yah, you've been ignoring me for weeks, and you turn up here grinning?" I step forward and lightly smack his chest, "Do you know frustrated I've been? Huh?" I step forward to hit his chest again, but he grasps my hand and pulls me into him.
I try to tug from his grip, but he holds me tighter, his other hand gripping the middle of my back.
"You're an evil girl, you know that right?" He says blankly, glaring down at me. I mumble a small 'No' and he continues.
"I have been so jealous of you with my bandmates – my best friends – I have been angry everywhere I go. No girl has ever made me this jealous. No one has affected me the way you have affected me. You drive me crazy! I was so close to sweeping you off your feet and kidnapping you, forcing you to move to Korea. But now, here you are. Already here. My dreams all come true. My heart is beating a thousand beats a second and my thoughts would make you want to run away as far as you can. Do you see what I am feeling now?" Jimin finishes, breathing heavily.
I gulp, taking in every word.
What thoughts are running through your head?!
I slowly pull myself away from him, and he lets me. However, he decides to keep a firm grip on my wrist.
What have I gotten myself into?
"I..." I gulp again, "I didn't realise you felt so strongly for me..." Jimin scoffs, rolling his eyes.
"You sat down next to my friend, and I have been ignoring you ever since," He grumbles, "What else would I be angry about?"
I shrug.
"I didn't notice when you started being angry with me, just that you were,"
"You're not very smart, Lilly," Jimin mumbles.
"Yah!" I smack his chest again, "You expect me to assume that you like me? You? A Korean celebrity? Wouldn't that make me conceited?"
"You didn't assume, knowing full well I'm an idol?" he moves closer, inches from being pressed against me, "I risked my career for you, why else would I keep trying if I didn't like you?"
"I don't know, okay!" I scream, angry tears falling down my cheeks, "I don't know if I like you too, I don't know if I could date an idol, and I don't know what to do!"
Jimin's expression goes blank, all anguish leaving his body. I let out a sob and roughly pull out of his grip.
His lip quivers for a moment. He bites down on his lip, controlling his emotions.
"Do you like me, Min Lilly?" He mumbles.
"What?" I sniffle.
Jimin starts forward, nudging me into the wall behind me. He slams his hand on the wall beside my head.
"I said," He growls, "Do you like me?"
"W-w-well..." I bite my lip, my heart beating hard at his closeness, "Yeah, I think so," Jimin takes in a deep, shaky breath.
"That's all I need to hear right now," He hesitates, before pulling me into him, his arms wrapped around me, enclosing me in his embrace.
I freeze, completely shocked and overwhelmed. I decide to hug him back, bringing my arms up so I am squeezing him around the middle.
Jimin's breathing begins to slow down as if his desires are being quenched just like this.
We stay like this for a long time. I'm not sure how long, all I know is that by the time we part, we have both relaxed completely, the tension leaving our bodies like toxins.
. . . . .
"Woah..." I gasp as I enter my new apartment. They have decked it out with new couches, a new mattress, a bed frame, and a dining set. There isn't a lot of furniture, but they have even provided a TV, coffee table, and a TV cabinet.
This will be my home in Seoul.
As I enter the kitchen I spot a rice cooker, a fridge and a kettle.
"You guys didn't have to buy me so much furniture," I mumble, returning to the real estate agent and the manager from Bighit.
He chuckles lightly, his hands deep in his pockets.
"It's alright. This particular apartment comes with the furniture,"
The real-estate agent gestures me over to her and we begin discussing the rent – which has been paid for 4 weeks in advance by Bighit – and the other important details, like rules, keys, etc.
When we finish, the manager helps me bring in my 2 suitcases and leaves me alone.
I tuck the documents I signed and received from the real estate agent in my study room drawer.
I pace the room, admiring the view and the furniture.
The building is only 5 stories tall, so it's not a large, expensive apartment. It has a rooftop that reminds me of a Korean drama my mother showed me once. It's pretty decent for my first apartment.
The apartment has a very basic, beautiful setup. It has 2 bedrooms with an open plan living area. It's not too expensive, but enough for me to consider getting a roommate.
Would Jimin be jealous about that too?
I shake my head, pushing thoughts of him aside. His passion and intensity are not what I want to be thinking about right now.
It has been a while since I have lived on my own. I lived with my parents until I graduated high school, then moved in with my ex. After all that, I moved back home.
My ex...
I shake my head of those thoughts and take a seat in the new lounge. It's fresh and clean. I beam, taking a deep breath in.
This is the beginning of my life, my dream, and my future.
