Chapter 10
As I arrive at the building, I notice a few fans milling around along with what I can only assume is dispatch. I didn't think there would be so many people hanging around.
Do they have nothing better to do?
How popular are the musicians at this place that the fans wait outside for them like this?
I pull down my cap and walk around the building. A few fans look in my direction, but they almost immediately look away.
I quickly head to the back door and up the stairs, making sure my steps aren't too loud or heavy.
I enter in what looks like a storeroom. I walk through and into a hallway with a few doors and a bathroom. I head down to the main reception area. It's a large room with a long reception desk near the hallway I entered from.
"Hello," I smile, "I am Min Lilly. I am here for my induction?"
"Yes, a staff member will take you down to the music production team. You'll be working with Gang Hyowon today,"
"Thank you," I smile and take a seat in the reception area.
A few people walk in and out the front doors, passing the people standing around out there. Some of them stick around, and some leave. Some of the fans take selfies and move on, and some film videos in front of the building. It's strange to watch them like this, like the behind-the-scenes of a viral video. The only ones that don't move on are the people with the cameras.
"Min Lilly?" I look up at my name. A man with glasses and a round face beams at me from the hallway next to the one I entered through.
"Hello," I stand and bow.
"Don't worry about being too formal," he beckons me forward, "Come, I'll show you the rooms you will be working in,"
I head over to him and we begin walking down the vast hallway to the elevators.
As we reach them, the doors open.
For some reason, I am tense. I don't know why, but my heart begins beating hard like I know who is going to be behind those doors.
Inside is none other than Min Yoongi. My heart stops as he looks up at us, a few hairs falling over one of his eyes.
"Lilly?" Yoongi mumbles, looking between us, a frown forming in the middle of his forehead.
"Hello, Yoongi," I blush, "I'm here for work. I'll let you go on your way," I shuffle aside to let him pass, but he doesn't move.
"Come in," He gestures to us, giving us no other choice.
"What's happening, Hyung?" Yoongi asks Hyowon. Hyung?
How does Yoongi know this producer?
"I'm showing Min Lilly around," He smiles kindly, "Today is her first day on the job,"
"The job?" Yoongi mumbles as Hyowon presses the button on the elevator to go to the next floor.
"Mm, correct. She will be my assistant for a while, then she'll have her own recording studio," Hyowon smiles at Yoongi, having way too much fun with flabbergasted Yoongi.
The doors open, revealing a large practice room. Hyowon leads me into this room with Yoongi stumbling behind us.
"This is one of the main practice rooms. The recording studios are at the end of this hallway," He gestures down a hallway to his immediate right, "Let's go check them out," He grins, leading the way.
"Yah," Yoongi grabs my hand, pulling me up. Hyowon pauses, standing with his back to us a few metres ahead.
"What? I'm working right now, Yoongi," I mumble, trying to sound a little more professional.
"You didn't tell me you had a job here..." He mumbles.
"So?" I whisper, "What are you doing here? I don't think the producer would..." Suddenly it hits me. This entertainment is the company BTS is under contract with. That's why he's here.
Why the hell did it take me this long to figure it out? Didn't BTS mention Bighit to me before?
"You work here, don't you?" I mumble, feeling more and more stupid by the minute.
"Yeah," Yoongi smirks, "You didn't know that?"
"No," I sigh, "I just forgot,"
"So," He smirks, stepping a little closer, "We will be working together, right?"
I blush, stuttering like a crazy fan. Yoongi chuckles as he gestures for me to continue following Hyowon.
Hyowon leads us to a hallway with many rooms branching off. Some are decent-sized recording studios, and some are very small recording studios.
"We have 5 main music producers. These producers help BTS with their albums and some write songs for them," Hyowon gestures to a room on the left, "This is my recording studio,"
"Mine is down there," Yoongi smiles happily, like a school kid during show and tell, pointing at a room near the end of the hall. I nod, smiling back at him.
"These first 7 are the main studios. Suga, RM, and Hobi all have their own studios. We have 5 additional studios for the other music producers and any other artists that wish to work on producing music," Hyowon explains, slowly leading us to the end of the hall, "You will be working in this one here when you've finished your training week. You'll work a day with each of the music producers. I'm afraid we will have to get you in on Saturday, so you can work with BTS to get a feel of what we expect from you," Hyowon opens the door and leads me inside.
Yoongi follows us in, looking around at the studio as if sizing up what technology I'll have access to.
"Bang PD tells me you did a term on music production technology?" Hyowon asks.
"Yep, that's right," I smile, "I know how to use all of these, but..." I blush.
"What?"
"I learnt it on Windows. I haven't used Apple products before," Hyowon's eyes widen.
"Huh?"
"We had a choice, and I chose to use my own computer with my own program. I had a Windows computer,"
"I see," Hyowon sighs, "Well, it's not too much different. It's the same program, just a different computer. You should get used to it pretty quickly,"
"I can help her," Yoongi puts his hand up, "I don't have any schedule today. I was going to mess around in the recording studio anyway,"
"Ah, that's okay," Hyowon smirks, turning the computer on, "I've been designated the job of training Lilly,"
"Please..." Yoongi mumbles, trying to act cool as if he isn't begging Hyowon to spend the day with us.
Hyowon sighs.
"Fine," Hyowon mutters, "But don't be distracting, okay?"
"Okay," He nods, rushing to the chair beside the recording set up. He looks up at me and pats the seat beside him.
I roll my eyes and take the seat. He grins as he looks up at Hyowon, waiting for him to leave.
"I'll be back in an hour, Yoongi," Hyowon gives him a knowing look, "Okay?"
"Okay!" Yoongi replies cheerfully as Hyowon leaves the room, closing the door behind him.
"All right, what do you know about our recording software?" Yoongi asks, shuffling his chair closer.
"I... I've used it before. I was trained in it. I just don't know how Apple computers work..." I grimace, realising how cheap I sound.
"It's alright, I'll show you how to use an Apple computer, now,"
Yoongi gets up and stands behind my chair, leaning over my shoulder.
"To access programs you go in here..." Yoongi explains to me the bottom bar and the sidebars, but I'm barely listening.
I can hear his heartbeat against my ear. His arms are practically wrapped around me as he has one hand on the mouse and the other supporting him on the table.
Yoongi stands like this for a very long time, explaining how the equipment is plugged into the computer and how to obtain the audio and access files.
When he stands and sits back down beside me, I can't shake the warmth that remains on my shoulders and neck, right where Yoongi's breath flew across my skin. I shiver involuntarily, which doesn't go unnoticed by Yoongi.
"Cold?" He smirks, shuffling so close the chairs are almost practically on top of each other.
"N-No," I blush darker, crossing my arms.
"Lilly," I gasp silently as Yoongi leans closer, inches from my face, "Do I make you nervous?"
I take a minute to consider this question.
He's doing this on purpose...
"No," I relax immediately, shuffling forward and turning to my side so his chin knocks on my shoulder, "It's just the first day on the job, that's all," I can feel Yoongi grinning beside me.
"All right," He leans back, "Write up a basic composition, one verse,"
I turn and stare at him.
He can't be serious...
"You want me to do what now?" I mutter before scoffing, "I'm here to learn,"
"Yeah," He smirks, "And I'm here to teach you, and what better way to know what you can do than testing?"
"But..." I frown, crossing my arms, "You only have me for an hour,"
Yoongi tsks, cheekily leaning forward with a raised eyebrow.
"You think an hour isn't long enough for something like this?" Yoongi sighs, "I could do that in my sleep,"
I frown, pulling the keyboard and mouse closer to me.
"Fine,"
I open the program and begin working.
I decide on a basic beat and simple lyrics. It won't be passable, but it'll be a basic composition.
He better not be expecting some lyrical genius work here...
As I work, pulling up instruments and the virtual Beatpad, Yoongi begins making his moves.
He places his hand on the arm of the chair, his fingers lightly brushing the skin on my arm. Goosebumps arise from his touch, messing with my concentration.
Suddenly, he slides his hand up the chair and on my shoulder. They are simple, pointless movements, but I know what he's doing.
This isn't to test my ability to write or compose. This is so he can mess with me and my currently fragile feelings.
Soon, his hand wanders down to the chair arm again, this time near the head of the chair so his fingers lightly brush my shirt, right next to my ribs.
I shiver as his fingers begin moving rhythmically from side to side.
This has got to stop. I can't concentrate.
I sigh and turn to him but wish I hadn't. My heart skips a beat as his facial expression catches me off guard.
He is staring down at his hand, his other fingers stroking his lips in a sexy, intoxicating way. He peers up at me and notices me looking at him. His eyes are full of a dark, sensual heat that takes my breath away.
"What?" He murmurs, "Have you given up?"
"Y-Y-Yah!" I gasp, "I can't work like this..."
"Like what?" he slides his hand down the chair, along my arm, then back up the top of my arm. He stops as he reaches my shoulder.
"Am I making you nervous now?" he whispers, leaning forward.
I gulp, my eyes darting around, avoiding his intense gaze.
Suddenly, he chuckles, leaning back in his chair and removing his hand. I visibly relax, my slumping shoulders making him chuckle harder.
"You're stubborn, just like me," He stands up, "I'll grab Hyowon Hyung, so you can continue your induction,"
He turns and leaves, not before pausing to run his hand along the back of the chair, brushing his fingers against the back of my neck. I shiver, feeling winded by his absence and forwardness.
As the door closes, I slump forward, letting out a big, deep sigh.
What am I going to do?
