Chapter 34

TW: Violence

Yoongi:

"I'm staying here,"

"Yoongi, the police will be out the front of her house, she'll be fine,"

"I'm not leaving,"

"Min Yoongi, you have to come to work,"

"I'm not leaving this house until he's found,"

"Yoongi, please,"

"The police were patrolling last time, you think she'll be safe?"

"What if you get hurt?"

"What if she gets hurt?"

"You can't skip work,"

"Watch me," Yoongi growls, hanging up on Bang Hyungsik. He knows he'll be in trouble for this later, but he can't leave her alone like this.

He turns to look at Lilly. She's crawled into a ball on the couch. She has bandages on her arms and legs to cover the deeper cuts on her body. Her eye and jaw are bruised severely, and she moves gingerly, her ribs tender with minor fractures. She absentmindedly rubs her uncovered cuts, like she's trying to rub them away.

He watches her with a heavy heart, trying to ignore the invasive thoughts that run through his mind.

It's your fault. She's like this because of you.

He pushes these thoughts from his mind, trying to think of a plan.

They just got back from the hospital a few hours ago. The police dropped by and explained the plan. They will be sitting in an unmarked police vehicle watching the house. If the suspect sneaks in outside their vision then Yoongi or Lilly are to turn on and off the kitchen light.

If he sneaks in, Yoongi knows exactly what he wants to do.

He'll be crawling out of here when I'm done with him.

He clenches his fists, trying to fight the urge to punch something. At the hospital, he listened to her story as she sobbed onto his shoulder. Why was this psycho able to walk the streets? Why did his girlfriend not report him?

It's not that simple, you know that.

His chest aches even more as hopelessness engulfs him. He wasn't there to protect her. She was waiting for him, hoping he'd come to help her, and he wasn't there.

He slowly walks over to her, his eyes wary. She's staring at the TV, rubbing a long cut on her arm.

"Don't scratch it," Yoongi murmurs, sitting beside her. She grimaces, before leaning into him.

"It's itchy..." She sighs, breathing in his scent. She nudges him so she's laying across him, her head on his chest. He lets her, wrapping his arms around her.

"If you scratch it, it won't heal properly. You don't want it to scar," His unsaid words hang in the air.

You don't want to remember this day forever.

"Some of them will scar," She whispers, her hands clenching into fists, clinging to his shirt.

Yoongi squeezes her tighter as a tear falls down his cheek.

"I should have been there," He whispers without thinking. She looks up at him, horrified.

"Don't blame yourself, this isn't your fault," She places her hand on his face, making him look at her.

"I wasn't there for you," He gulps, "It's my fault you went through this," Lilly places her other hand on his cheek, staring deep into his eyes.

"It's. Not. Your. Fault," She says firmly, "It's that... t-that man's fault," She shivers. Even the thought of him scares her. How could he let her go through this?

"I'm sorry, Min Lilly," He lets out a sob, placing his hand over his mouth. She shuffles up, turning so she's cradling his head into her chest.

"It's not your fault," She whispers. Over and over again.

It's not your fault.

He lets her console him, knowing full well that he should be consoling her. After a while, he pulls from her grip. He shuffles over, pulling her into him so she's laying on her back beside him. He looks down at her body, counting every single cut. He closes his eyes, controlling his emotions.

When he opens his eyes he leans forward and kisses the highest one, the one on her upper arm. She bites her lip, her arms tense.

I will replace every single cut with my touch. You won't be able to remember the feeling of him.

He kisses the next one, and the next one. He even kisses the bandage gently. He moves to her other arm. Eventually, she smiles a little, sighing with each kiss.

He moves to her stomach, kissing the bruise on her ribs and the two cuts on her belly. Before he continues, he looks up at her, asking for permission. She bites her lip, nodding as she blushes.

He kisses a long one on her upper thigh, then another just above her knee. Another on her other inner thigh.

She tenses, but not from fear, just embarrassment. He smirks, moving to the cuts on her calves. Once he's finished, he moves back up to her, kissing the one on her sternum and a little one on her jaw.

He looks down at her, his elbows resting on either side of her head.

"A bit better?" He whispers, his breath shallow. She sighs, wrapping her arms around his middle.

"A lot better," She plants a kiss on his nose, "Let's go have breakfast,"

He pouts, nodding cutely as he shuffles off of her. She chuckles before wincing. Yoongi helps her sit up and then stand.

"Are you okay?" She nods, letting go of him.

"Let's eat," She smiles, taking his hand and leading him to the kitchen.

They spend the next few hours spending time together, just talking about anything and everything but that man. Lilly ends up showing him the videos that she was watching yesterday.

He cringes at the cute ones and laughs at savage videos.

"Wow, I didn't realize how bad I looked acting cute," Yoongi shivers, "I'm never going to do that again,"

"Why?" Lilly pouts, "I think you look adorable,"

Yoongi grins, continuing to watch the video.

Maybe being cute isn't so bad.

At dinner, Yoongi orders some delivery.

"Nothing wrong with salt. It's good soul food," Yoongi grins as Lilly pouts, chastising him for eating unhealthily. When it arrives, Lilly's disappointment evaporates. It smells better than usual.

They eat quietly, occasionally grinning at each other enthusiastically.

"Is it good?" Yoongi asks.

"It's really good!" Lilly giggles eagerly.

Yoongi tries to eat, but every time he tries to look at his favourite face in the world, he sees the bruises and scars. Halfway through, he loses his appetite.

Lilly notices his furtive glances and sighs.

"It's okay Yoongi," She smiles sadly, "I'm feeling a lot better after spending the day with you,"

Yoongi smiles, but it doesn't extend to his eyes. His thoughts keep invading his mind, speaking his fears and anxiety.

She's hurt because of you.

If you had just visited her when she didn't reply after that first hour, she wouldn't have been hurt.

You could have done this...

You could have done that...

You could have tried harder.

Do you even care?

"I'm going to shower. Can you help me put new bandages on when I've finished?"

He nods numbly, watching her stand and head to her bedroom.

Useless...

Suddenly, Yoongi is distracted by his thoughts as he hears Lilly's phone vibrate.

He picks it up to see who it is. His heart drops and his eyes go wide.

It's a text from that guy:

UNKNOWN: I'll visit you tonight.

Yoongi opens the phone to find more messages from the day.

UNKNOWN: How are your scars? I hope they don't heal.

UNKNOWN: I bet your ribs hurt.

UNKNOWN: How's your boyfriend? Guilty? Good.

UNKNOWN: I know you're reading my messages, even if you don't respond.

UNKNOWN: Tell Yoongi I want to kill him.

UNKNOWN: Maybe today? Hmmm...

Yoongi clenches his fists, his hand tightening around the phone. He tries to call the number, but it's private.

"Yoongi, I'm ready, come here..." Lilly exits her bedroom, the towel wrapped around her. She freezes as she sees the phone in his hands.

"Why do you have my phone?" She asks, the fear evident in her voice.

"You received a message..." He glares at her, "From him,"

She rushes over, taking the phone from his hands.

"I have been forwarding the messages to the police, so don't say I've been hiding it," Lilly murmurs, sending the new message to them.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Yoongi whispers feeling hurt.

"I didn't want to ruin our day together," Lilly sighs, "I didn't want you to feel upset,"

"I should be the one hiding these from you, not the other way around!" He yells, "Do you think I'm too weak to handle this?"

"No, it's just..." She bites her lip, trying to think of the right words. Yoongi groans in frustration, grabbing her and pulling her into him. She gasps, the water rolling down and stinging her uncovered cuts.

"Don't hide things like this from me," He whispers gravely, "This is too important to hide,"

She nods, wrapping her arms around his waist. They stand like this for a moment, until Yoongi pulls away, smiling sadly at her.

"Let's get your cuts covered," He leads her back to her room, his heart full of dread.

Once he's finished he leaves to let her get dressed, much to his disappointment.

As he closes the door behind him, the power goes out.

Yoongi spins around in the dark, staring at where he thinks Lilly's bedroom door is. His muscles tense and his heart races as he listens for any sounds.

He can't hear anything from Lilly's bedroom. It's completely silent, too quiet.

Is he here? In her room?

Yoongi steps blindly towards the door, reaching out for the handle. He opens it, peeking into the room. His eyes haven't adjusted yet, but he has a general idea of where her bed is. He can't see her silhouette anywhere.

He takes a step into the room. His eyes are wide, but all he can hear is his own breathing. He can't hear Lilly at all.

The police.

Yoongi freezes. He needs to let them know what's happening, whether it's a false alarm or not. He pulls his phone from his pocket, stepping back out of the room. He turns and walks blindly into the kitchen. He spots the window by the light peeking through the curtains. He heads to them, bumping into the cupboard as he does.

He hears some shuffling from behind him.

Hurry!

He opens the window and flashes the flashlight on his phone on and off a few times.

He tries to see if the police saw him when he is grabbed from behind.

"Urgh!" He grunts as he is thrown back into the cupboard. He tries to see who his assailant is, but he is blinded once again after looking out at the street light.

"What did you just do?"

Shiver.

A deep voice whispers to his left.

"Alerted the police," Yoongi chuckles calmly, "They're coming right now,"

The deep voice chuckles, a booming deadly chuckle.

This guy can't possibly be a human, Yoongi gulps, how can a voice be that deep?

"I guess I'll have to kill you quickly then," Yoongi hears a shuffle and starts shuffling instinctively away, bumping into the cabinets again.

As he leaves the kitchen, his adrenaline kicks in, along with his fear. Only one thing penetrates his mind: Lilly.

Why is she silent? Where is she?

Please don't be dead, please don't be dead.

Yoongi ignores this voice as an idea occurs to him. He opens his phone again, turning on the flashlight. He turns to see the man in the kitchen. He is broad with a muscular build. As soon as the light hits him, he turns to face Yoongi.

As the man rushes forward, Yoongi punches him hard in the jaw. His head twists away, startled by Yoongi's sudden attack.

He lunges forward, catching Yoongi around the middle. They fall together, the man landing on top of Yoongi. Yoongi grunts in pain as the man's weight weighs on his ribs.

They struggle for a moment, but the man greatly overpowers him.

He punches Yoongi in the jaw.

"FUCK!" Yoongi screams out, the pain sharp. He clutches his face for a moment, checking to see if his jaw is broken.

"You can't take pain very well, unlike your girlfriend," The man chuckles. Yoongi turns to look up at him, glaring darkly. Yoongi's phone light illuminates his grotesque face. He's not ugly, but the evil grin he has plastered on his face, knowing exactly how Yoongi feels, makes Yoongi sick to the stomach.

"Fuck you," Yoongi growls. As the man starts to chuckle again, Yoongi does something he never thought he'd ever do in his life. He clasps his hands together, bringing them high above his head, then down into the man's groin with as much force as he can.

The man, too busy feeling empowered and excited after trapping his prey, goes wide-eyed. He leans forward, clutching his stomach and groin. He growls a low guttural growl that sounds almost inhuman. Yoongi crawls out from under him. He pauses for a moment, looking down at the crouching body. He brings his knee up into the man's face.

"Ahh!" Yoongi hears a loud crack. He scoffs, power and anger pulsating through his body.

"You can't seem to take pain either," He kicks out again, catching the man in the ribs. He lets out a small sound, falling to his side by the force of it.

Yoongi pulls back to kick him again, but a thought occurs to him.

Lilly.

Yoongi picks up his phone and spins around, sprinting to Lilly's room.

Please be safe.

Please be safe.

Please, Lilly.

He runs into the doorway, lifting his phone to look around the room. He spots her legs behind her bed.

"Min Lilly!" He rushes over to her body, breathing heavily. He turns her over.

There is a trickle of blood running down her forehead. He checks her pulse, whimpering slightly.

Is there a heartbeat?

He can't tell, his heart is beating too fast and loud in his ears. He lifts her up and cradles her head on his lap.

"Lilly? Min Lilly!" He gasps, letting out a sob.

Please don't be dead, please don't be dead.

The only thing he can think of is her funeral. Her body lying in a coffin, blood pouring from her ears.

Blood, so much blood.

He shakes his head, trying to take control. But he's spiralling.

"Come here!" Yoongi looks up to see the man framed in the doorway, holding a long hunting knife. He has blood running down his face and his spare hand clutches his stomach.

They stare at each other, waiting for the other to move. The man looks down at Lilly and grins, his face demented. Inhuman.

"You have no idea how long I've waited for this moment," he takes a step forward, then another. And another. Yoongi watches on hopelessly, already mourning something he's unsure of.

How did it get like this? What happened between performing and practising happily? Why is he in a situation like this?

He looks down at Lilly, a tear dripping onto her bruised cheek.

Why is she in a situation like this? Do they really deserve something like this, just simply for loving each other?

"Yah,"

Yoongi looks up to find the man bearing down on him, the knife raised slightly.

"I want you to look at me when I kill you," The man whispers.

Yoongi closes his eyes, another tear falling down his cheek.

Is this really the end? Is this how fate decided I'd die?

Yoongi scoffs. Thinking about fate at a time like this... what's wrong with him?

Yoongi's mind goes blank as he opens his eyes, staring at the knife impassively. The man's arm tenses, ready to bring it down, right into his skull.

That'll be painful, right?

He smirks, waiting for the man to end his life.

"FREEZE!"

The man spins around to find four cops standing in the room and the doorway, guns pointed at him.

Yoongi chuckles, watching the man put his hands up and kneel.

Two officers come and handcuff him, whilst the two detectives rush over to Yoongi, clutching Lilly's head as if his life depends on it.

One of them checks her pulse, whilst the other places his hand on Yoongi's shoulder.

"Are you okay?" He asks. Yoongi shakes his head numbly.

"Is she okay?" He croaks, looking at the other detective.

"There's a pulse," The detective confirms. He looks to the other detective, "Call an ambulance,"

"That's good," Yoongi smirks as his vision goes black, the pain finally overwhelming him.
