Chapter 11
I have never been a fan of parties. Honestly, parties back home are basically BBQs where everyone drinks and plays beer pong. Or they're nerd parties where you play games and drink, or they're just a bunch of friends playing 'Never have I ever'.
So, when Park Jimin suggested sneaking me into their dorms – avoiding unsuspecting fans – so we could celebrate my new job at Bighit, I was very unsure whether to say yes. Being stuck in a room with Yoongi and Jimin, after everything that has happened? Not to mention the fact that I am not too close to the other members. What if they blame me for Jimin and Yoongi arguing? Will there be a fight? Is it really worth it?
"Don't worry, Lilly," Jimin mumbled over the phone a little while ago, "Everything will be fine, don't worry too much. The other members really want to celebrate you working with us from now on,"
So now, I have arrived in a taxi a few blocks down from the dorms. When I drove past the apartment complex there wasn't anyone waiting out the front, but that didn't make me feel any better.
Ignoring a minor stab of anxiety, I pay the driver and start walking around the block. Jimin said he will wait for me in a closed-off building behind the apartment complex to take me in.
As I reach the building, I spot him leaning against the wall on the side. He looks up, a playful smirk on his lips and his eyes alight with humour.
"About time," He remarks, "Come," He holds out his hand silently waiting for me to take it. I hesitate for a second before I give in, placing my hand gently in his. He gently leads me around the building and through a high fence. He locks it behind us.
We make our way inside and up the elevator, all the while still holding hands. Jimin hums cheerfully, enjoying the feel of my hand a little too much.
When we reach the dorms, Jimin swings open the door to reveal the other members, happily preparing for the party.
"Congratulations, Lilly!" Taehyung grins enthusiastically as Jimin allows him to steer me inside. Jimin closes the door, leaving me with the BTS members.
"Yah! How come you didn't tell us you were joining Bighit?" Jungkook pouts.
"Yeah! We had to hear everything from Yoongi!" Taehyung admonishes me, leading me over to a table laden with food.
"Sorry guys," I grin shyly, "It was meant to be a surprise..." I glare up at Yoongi, who grins down at me.
"You didn't say it was a surprise," Yoongi mutters resentfully, "I wouldn't have said anything if you told me to,"
"Now!" Jimin interrupts, "Let's start eating!" Jimin ushers me into a seat beside him. Yoongi subtly slides in on my other side, chatting away with Namjoon.
They make it so obvious.
I roll my eyes and begin eating.
I allow the conversation to drift wherever they take it, not putting in any input, leaving me to my thoughts.
However, I can't seem to concentrate as Yoongi's uncontrollable body keeps subtly touching me.
I look up at him as his arm brushes past me for the umpteenth time. He raises his eyebrows, daring me to say anything in front of Jimin.
I turn back to my food, ignoring his insistent pushing.
Suddenly, my breath hitches as his spare hand finds my knee, grasping it briefly. Cheeks red, I turn to him.
"Yah!" I grumble quietly, "What are you doing right now?"
I sense Jimin staring at me, but right now Yoongi's wandering hands are more important.
"Nothing," Yoongi smirks, "What's wrong?"
I narrow my eyes at him, trying to tell him without words how inappropriate he is being. Yoongi mocks my expression, exaggerating the pointed look I gave him.
Namjoon chuckles, pulling us out of the staring contest.
"You two are adorable, seriously," he says. I flush, looking to Jimin for assistance.
"How are they adorable? Yoongi is just annoying her," Jimin grumbles.
I yelp as he grabs the cushion I'm sitting on and pulls me closer to him. Yoongi's eyes narrow slightly, but other than that he gives no indication that Jimin pulled me away from him.
"Jimin..." I mutter, already feeling the heat from the tell-tale flush spreading across my cheeks.
Jimin turns and glowers at me. I have a feeling he has noticed Yoongi's not-so-subtle behaviour.
"Do you want to be closer to him?" Jimin points at Yoongi, who continues eating his food. The only sound that can be heard is the clink of silver made by Yoongi. Everyone else has stopped to watch the spectacle that is Jimin's jealousy and my inability to wrap my mind around the feelings emanating from either side of me.
"Eat up, eat up," Jin vacillates, redirecting the attention of the other members, a mark of worry on his forehead.
"Are you worried I'll snatch her away?" Yoongi remarks. The room goes silent once again, waiting with bated breath. They turn in unison to Jimin.
Jimin smirks slyly, surveying Yoongi with humour in his eyes.
"Nope," he peeks at me, his eyes crinkling with affection, "I know she likes me more,"
"Alright guys, let's not ruin the celebrations!" Namjoon interjects before Yoongi can reply. But if a look could kill, Jimin would be writhing in pain as Yoongi sends daggers across me.
"JK! How's the solo album coming along?" Namjoon continues, trying to keep the subject neutral.
"It's coming along well, Yoongi and Hobi have been helping me a lot," Jungkook beams at them. His excitement for his first solo is palpable.
"Lilly will be very helpful," Yoongi remarks, "Her work is really good,"
"Oh?" Jungkook turns to me, "Have you already been to a recording studio?"
"Yes," I laugh, "Hyowon showed me around today,"
"And I trained her," Yoongi turns to Jimin, "alone, in the smallest recording studio," he taunts, sneering. Jimin scoffs, leaning forward so he can see Yoongi better.
God damn it, Yoongi!
"Hyowon wouldn't let you do that. Lilly needed to complete training, right Lilly?" Jimin asks me. I begin getting hot under the collar as all eyes fall on me once again. But Jimin doesn't need verbal confirmation, he got his answer when I didn't respond.
Jimin stands, causing everyone to stir, moving from the table.
"Jimin..." Namjoon stands and is beside him in a heartbeat, "Let's go get some fresh air, huh?"
Jimin nods, not looking at anyone, and lets Namjoon lead him out the front door.
Silence follows their departure. Yoongi, However, hasn't stopped eating since the fight started.
"Yah," I roughly turn him so he is looking at me, "Why did you have to egg him on like that?"
Yoongi cocks his eyebrow, smirking slightly as if the situation is humorous to him.
"You weren't going to tell him, and he needed to know," He shrugs my hand off of him, "If you like him so much more than me, why didn't you follow them out?"
This question takes me by surprise. Why didn't I follow them out?
Well, wouldn't it be better to leave him to cool down rather than follow him and possibly have a fight?
You know exactly what he's suggesting, my subconscious taunts.
Your decision to stay by Yoongi insinuates you choose Yoongi over Jimin.
But who do I choose?
. . . . .
Jimin:
"YAH!" Jimin bellows as he reaches the rooftop of the apartment building.
"AHHHHH!" He cries out, letting out all of his built-up frustrations. Namjoon stays by the door, watching Jimin sadly.
Jimin abruptly falls to his knees, his head slumped forward. Namjoon places a rock in front of the door to prevent it from looking them up there and heads over to Jimin.
As he kneels down, he realises Jimin is crying.
No, crying is too simple of a term to use for what Jimin is feeling right now. These are anguished sobs. These are cries for release. These are heartbroken cries from a hurt man.
Why didn't she say anything?
Did she really spend time with him in that tiny recording room?
Jimin takes a deep breath in, trying to ignore his subconscious taunt him.
You know why you're so upset, don't you?
That room has a reputation, Jimin.
That room is so small, everyone who enters it together gets closer.
That's what people say.
You know Yoongi would have used that moment to his best advantage.
You know what he's done, and it pains you.
You know now.
She likes him more.
"FUUUUUUUCK!" Jimin growls angrily, punching the cement below him.
"Jimin..." Namjoon consoles, patting him gingerly on the back, "It's going to be okay..."
"Hyung," Jimin snaps, sniffling a little, "What do I do?"
"Huh?"
Jimin turns to him, his eyes red and his nostrils flared.
"What can I do?" he bites his lip, trying to control the violent feelings tremoring through his body, "How can I take her back?"
Namjoon considers Jimin for a moment. He seems stuck between logic and instinctual emotions.
"I think you should..." Namjoon sighs, sitting on the ground with his legs folded, "You ask her out,"
Jimin blinks at him. His anger, sadness, jealousy, and all the other negative emotions come erupting out of him like a volcano.
"What the fuck?" he spits, "How's that going to win her back?"
"Love isn't a competition, Jimin," Namjoon continues, "You can't win her over, and you can't continue fighting over her like this,"
"Why?"
"Because her heart is set on one of you, and if it isn't you, you need to clarify that quickly, so you can move on," Namjoon peers at him, "Would you rather chase her for months to find you lost, or would you rather know now, whether she likes you or not?"
Jimin nods, finally understanding what Namjoon is trying to say.
If she likes him, he's got to know now so they can be an item.
There is no point in chasing someone who doesn't love you back, you'll just get hurt more in the process. It's easy to figure out your feelings and their feelings. Once that's clear, go from there.
You can't cling to a heart that is in another's hands.
Jimin deflates, all the tension leaving his body. He takes a few deep breaths, clearing his mind of strong emotions. Namjoon pats him on the shoulder.
"You're stronger than you look, short ass," Namjoon grins as Jimin stands indignantly.
"Yah!"
Namjoon just laughs, eyeing his hurt friend with sympathy.
. . . . .
Yoongi:
Now's my chance. I can sneak her off and ask her out before Namjoon's wisdom bull shit can get the ball rolling for Jimin.
Yoongi narrows in on the conversation, listening to any subtle cues that suggest Lilly is ready to go home.
After a moment, Yoongi finds his opportunity.
"Yoongi, isn't it bedtime for you?" Taehyung teases, "I haven't seen you relax like this for a long time," Jungkook snickers beside him.
"Yeah, I'm practically a zombie now, right?" Yoongi grins, pretending to look at the time, even though he knows it's just past midnight.
"Are you tired, Lilly?" Seokjin asks Lilly, practically handing Yoongi the perfect opportunity.
"She must be," Yoongi presses. He stands, startling her out of her tired stupor.
"What are you doing?" She mumbles blankly.
"Come on, I'll drive you home,"
Success! I can sweep her away before Jimin gets to ruin any of my plans!
"All right, but I want to see Jimin first," Lilly says as she allows Yoongi to pull her to her feet. Yoongi rolls his eyes, hiding his agitation.
"He'll be fine. It's not like he'll never see you again," He begins slowly pushing her toward the door, beaming at the other members, "Say goodbye, guys!"
"I don't know man..." Taehyung hesitates, "Maybe Jin should take her,"
"Jin has been drinking," Yoongi admonishes him, "He can't drive!"
"True," Jin shrugs, unfazed. He has drunk more in the past 10 minutes than he has all night.
"Oh! Jimin! Namjoon!" Taehyung beams. Yoongi spins around to find Jimin and Namjoon silhouetted in the doorway.
Jimin and Namjoon enter, surveying the scene. Jin is wobbling drunkenly, Taehyung and Jung Kook look unsure, and Yoongi looks like he is dragging Lilly out the door. It does not look good for him.
"I..." Yoongi resigns himself to explain what he was doing, "I offered to take Lilly home,"
Jimin narrows his eyes and opens his mouth to retort, but stops, realising the situation. If they call a taxi, dispatch might see her. Jin and Yoongi are the only ones with their licences, but Jin is drunk. There is only one option.
"Fine, but I'm coming," Jimin snaps, grabbing his coat, wallet and phone.
Yoongi grimaces.
Finally, Lilly steps in and says something.
"It's fine, Jimin," he stops and stares at her as if he can't believe his ears. Even Yoongi stuffs his fingers in his ears to make sure they're clear.
Does she really prefer me?
"Lilly..." Jimin steps forward but Lilly puts her hands up.
"I'm sorry Jimin, but you guys can't be in the same car right now..." she gives him a small smile, "I'll text you when I get home, okay?"
Jimin tethers on anger, disappointment and jealousy for a moment, before nodding.
"Great!" Yoongi beams shamelessly, watching Jimin turn and storm off to his room.
"I'll be back," Yoongi smirks.
"Bye, guys!" Lilly waves as Yoongi quickly pulls her out the door. They call back their goodbyes just before Yoongi closes the door.
Yoongi sighs with relief as they begin walking down towards the elevator to go down to his car. He was worried that his plan had failed when Jimin arrived. Luckily, Lilly seems to like the idea of being alone in the car for 15-30 minutes.
This thought makes Yoongi a little giddy. He skips beside Lilly, leading her out the back to where they park their cars away from prying eyes.
Yoongi looks around, making sure no one is sulking around the complex.
"Ladies first," Yoongi simpers as he opens the passenger door for her. Lilly rolls her eyes, smirking slightly as she jumps in the car.
Yoongi runs around the car, grinning like an idiot before jumping in the driver's seat.
"So, where are you staying?"
Lilly puts her address in his GPS and they're off.
The start of the trip is very silent. Yoongi is just starting to question whether his plan will work with Lilly brooding when she speaks up.
"Yoongi..." She mumbles.
"Hm?" he replies.
"Why were you so touchy in the recording room?"
Yoongi's breath catches in his throat. He should have expected bluntness from her, but it still startles him a little. He takes a moment to decide what he should tell her and how.
"Well, I wanted to make you a little tense," He states, deciding on a white lie, "BTS is very stressful when we're in the recording studio with you,"
"But why the touching?" Yoongi peers at her. She is looking at him with a small frown on her face.
She doesn't believe someone like me, or Jimin, could like her, he realises.
"Well..." I clear my throat, "I guess I just wanted to..."
"You wanted to touch me?" Yoongi can hear her smirk.
"Yeah, I guess... I think I like you a little," Yoongi coughs, trying to hide the small blood rush forming on his cheeks.
Lilly doesn't reply, letting Yoongi's words hang in the air. He decides to peek at her again.
She is giving him a very sarcastic look. She laughs as she smacks him in the arm.
"Yah! Don't lie!" She chuckles, "Sure, you're a flirt, but actually liking me? Don't mess with my feelings," She sighs.
"What if I said I'm not joking?" Yoongi presses. If he's going to tell her, she's going to believe him.
"Listen, Jimin liking me is one thing, but you as well? That's impossible! Don't be silly, Yoongi," She playfully smacks his arm again. Yoongi feels a pain of resentment, but not because she rejected his confession. He feels sad because she doesn't see the beauty in her.
She is the sort of person that emits a powerful aura that just attracts everyone. Just her smile alone is breathtaking, never mind everything else that surrounds her luscious lips.
You are beautiful, Min Lilly. Everything about you is perfect. Those things you think aren't perfect just make you who you are.
The only flawed person is one with an ugly personality. Your personality is like the goddess Aphrodite.
Yoongi recites this mantra in his head, but by the time he has the nerve to say this to her, she is already leaving.
"Thanks for taking me home, Yoongi. I'll see you at work tomorrow?"
Yoongi tethers on speech for a moment, before simply nodding.
"Goodnight," He mutters gruffly.
"Goodnight," She beams, shutting the door, closing the last chance Yoongi had at expressing his feelings.
Lilly Min... you're perfect.
And I like you, every aspect of you.
