Appearance:
• Human - 5'5", around 200 pounds. Pale complexion, a larger, straight nose, and dark brown curls that fall 3 inches past her shoulders. Pale blue eyes with a dark blue ring around the irises. Thick thighs and waist, and broader set shoulders.
• Sinner (normal presentation) - 6'5", around 275 pounds. Bottom half of her body is identical to a black swan; large waist and rear with a tail and fluffy plumage, thicker, orange legs and webbed feet. Her upper half is more representative of a human, but there are flight feathers growing along the outside of her arms. Longer neck but a relatively human face, except she lacks human ears and instead has holes that are surrounded by black feathers. Her hair also consists of long black feathers that fall 3 inches past her shoulders. Her eyes are golden irises surrounded by black, with thick black coloration around her eyes, and thick black eyelashes. She has a set of fully functional wings on her back that can fold neatly against her back, but when open have a 15 foot wingspan.
• Sinner (full demon form) - size depends on how exaggerated her emotions are as well as her intentions while in this form. Takes on a form very similar to original depictions of a harpy in Greek myth, though she keeps the attributes of a black swan. While in her normal form, her arms simply have a lining of flight wings, in this form they turn into a full second set of wings. Her neck also grows much longer, in proportion to how long a swan's neck would be compared to its body. Her face is also more bird-like, with an orange and black beak. Her entire eye glows a blinding yellow rather than just her irises.
Powers:
• Demon transformation - Veronica has the ability to shift into her full demon form when threatened or enraged.
• Hypnosis - Veronica is able to hypnotize anyone who listens to her songs. She must make a conscious effort to manipulate to access this power however; without hypnotic intentions, her singing is just singing.
• Flight - Veronica is able to fly outside her full demon form thanks to her wings on her back that are separate from her upper limbs.
Weapon(s): no specific weapon
Personality: Before she lost her memory, Veronica was a very outgoing demon who won over even the most unreceptive individual with her charisma and songs. Because of her ability to hypnotize and control people, she had a tendency to be manipulative and stubborn, though she was rather two-faced, choosing to be passive aggressive in her interactions rather than asserting herself from the get-go. Though this made her seem ruthless to some, the reality is that Veronica is very kind and empathetic, and the habit of using her powers to get her way was strongly influenced by the Vees. After she lost her memory, Veronica became much more reserved, especially in any instance where she can't speak. But around her friends she still holds on to her old spark, though it is dulled by the fact that her soul is not her own.
Fear(s): The Vees (especially Valentino), having anything around her neck, strangulation
Backstory: Abigail Renee Svana was born in 1992 to a devout Christian family in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Abigail was an intelligent and bubbly girl who hardly did anything wrong. She got all As throughout her schooling, played tennis, basketball, and soccer in high school, and attended church every Sunday. She was a proud member of the choir there and often sang for events and church shows. When she went off to college in California, she was very suddenly exposed to life outside her comparatively small town in South Dakota and realized that she lived a very sheltered life.
Her first year, she managed to stave off temptations from her classmates and became very isolated. Then, as a sophomore she met her eventual boyfriend, Tristan Vandal, who convinced her to stop being so stiff. She slowly came out of her shell and subsequently began to drink, smoke, skip class, all the things her parents would have a heart attack over but in the grand scheme of things didn't feel like a big deal. When she felt guilty about lying to parents or participating in activities that her community back home would surely shame her for, Tristan would tell her to not let them fool her, that they've all done the same things because you're only young once. She could make up for it later.
During undergrad, she became close with a lot of Tristan's friends in his performing arts program, and a handful of them decided to start a band together, with Abigail as the lead. She still managed to graduate with her Bachelors in Science but rather than pursue her doctorate in physical therapy, like she had originally planned, she pursued the music career, which infuriated her parents. They subsequently discovered the kinds of behavior that Abigail had been engaging in while she was away in California and warned her not to come back home until she repented.
Of course, having a band was not a well paying job, as the gigs they did find paid very little if anything at all, and Abigail had to work to support both her and Tristan, who was still in school because he had to retake classes to graduate. The band did get progressively better and more recognized within their local area, and a small record label agreed to produce for them. Their band was no Jonas Brothers, but they started making enough money that Abigail and Tristan could both just work part-time. Their relationship remained strained, however, especially because Tristan thought of himself as Abigail's vocal coach and grew jealous that she was the only one that people would recognize when they were out in public.
After a few years of the band playing and growing in popularity, Abigail was invited to an afterparty by some of the VIPs at the club they were playing at. But only her. This enraged Tristan but Abigail went anyway because she felt it was a reward for all the years of work she had put into the band. After a few hours and many drinks, Abigail ended up getting cornered in the alley behind the bar by one of the male VIPs and was raped. However, while it was happening, Abigail managed to find a loose brick near the wall of the building and smacked it hard on the man's head. Panicked, she fled the scene, disposing of the brick in a river by her apartment.
The man was found a bit later in the night by an employee at the bar and later succumbed to his injury. Unknown to Abigail, the police statements were reporting that they suspected foul play but the case had complicating factors based on the state of undress the man was found in and the scratches on his arm and face that indicated someone was trying to escape. But Abigail saw none of it, halling herself up in her dark apartment until Tristan came home from his parents' house. After a bit of confrontation back and forth, Abigail told Tristan everything that happened, including the murder. Tristan accused Abigail of lying, using rape as a coverup to cheat on him. He then vowed that if the murder part was true, he was going to turn her into the police, then left. Panicked and isolated, Abigail hung herself.
Abigail manifested in Hell was a swan demon, damned for sloth (taking the easy way out instead of facing punishment), lust (for premarital sex she had with Tristan), gluttony (for the lifestyle she led in college and for being so wasted before the rape occurred), wrath (taking another human's life), and pride (killing herself to protect her name). When she spawned, she just so happened to be among a crowd of reporters who were swarming Vox, trying to get the inside scoop on the new TV show "Hell's Got Talent". Because Abigail materialized right there when his interview was being done, Vox seized the moment and swooped her up, inviting her to be one of the first contestants on his TV show. Flustered, confused, and shellshocked, Abigail agreed without really comprehending what was happening.
As it turns out, Abigail was a god-send to Vox, as she was a really good singer when she was alive, and because she was a swan demon, her voice was even better in Hell. In fact, it was hypnotic. When she wanted to, Abigail could use her voice to influence anyone listening to do whatever she wanted or feel whatever she wanted them to feel. Dubbed as "Veronica" by Vox later on in the season, she quickly became a fan favorite, won the first season, and was invited back by Vox to be a judge on subsequent seasons.
Behind the scenes, Veronica was flourishing. She couldn't remember the exact details of her death, just that she had an argument with her boyfriend and killed herself afterwards. Without the restraints of her emotional trauma or societal expectations, Veronica found herself quickly becoming a well-known name in Hell, and her association with the Vees only added fuel to the fire. Specifically, Vox was very smitten (or as smitten as you could imagine Vox to be). He spoiled Veronica with lavish gifts, hooked her up with all the best gigs, and wooed her with whispers that ranged from sweet nothings to promises that she would be the Queen of Hell at his side one day. Veronica was so infatuated that she hardly noticed that Vox was also using her as a stepping stone to take out his enemies and gain allies with her songs. And she didn't even blink when she signed her soul to Vox for a contract to take hold of the music industry in Hell under his supervision.
As for the other Vees, there were mixed opinions. Velvette did not like Veronica or the attention that she automatically stole just by entering the room, so if Veronica was present, Velvette was not. Valentino was intrigued by Veronica. Specifically, he thought she looked a bit like the Exorcist angels, with her gray skin, black wings, and golden eyes. Vox staved off Valentino's advances towards Veronica so long as she kept assisting with taking down Vox's enemies, earning them money through the music industries, and sleeping with him. Veronica was not wise to this arrangement until it was too late. Around 3 years after Veronica first arrived in Hell, Vox asked Veronica to officially become part of the Vees, which she realized was not only a political alignment between 3 overlords, it was a polyamorous relationship. As a swan demon, she was understandably uncomfortable with anything but monogamy, and on top of that, Velvette didn't like her and Valentino was a creep. Veronica tried to refuse with these things but Vox explained that she wouldn't be dating them unless she wanted to, it could be only him if she wanted, but he was in a relationship with Valentino and Velvette.
Again, this was not something Veronica was comfortable with. When she tried to leave, Vox lashed out on her, a vicious fight ensued between the two of them, and he ended up pushing her out a second story window onto the street. Veronica survived, but lost all her memories- everything from her life on earth and all her time down in Hell. Still bitter but knowing Veronica was too big of a name to send wandering around Hell without consequence, he signed away her soul contract to Velvette under the guise that Velvette would do the best job of keeping her in line and out of Vox's hair, while avoiding Valentino getting ahold of her, which was Vox's last "favor" to Veronica.
Velvette, still hating Veronica, made changes to her contract that were soul binding. In the Vee's studio, where Veronica lived and worked for Velvette as her assistant, Veronica could live without any inconveniences (save for the ones caused by the Vees themselves). However, as soon as she left the studio, a garrote made of her sins would constrict her neck and rob her of the ability to speak. After making this discovery, Veronica quickly submitted to the will of the contract, and has not left the Vees studio for 4 years.
