Chapter 3
Right now, I'm packing. It's been three weeks since my birthday. The school year ended yesterday, but I'm not having any fun. Why? It started like this.
I had gotten home from school to find my mother in a panic. "Your uncle Bob has broken his leg," she had informed me, "We are moving to their campground to help."
"Why can't Aunt Dawn take care of him?" I had grumbled
"Aunt Dawn can't possibly take care of the entire campground and your Uncle with only 1 other person to help her! Since Sarah had quit, they have been short handed." My mom had replied.
I remembered Sarah. Mom had told me about her. She had quit because her husband had gotten a job somewhere else.
I sighed,"Mom, I can't possibly pack all of my stuff in one suitcase. You gave my other one to Anabelle, remember?"
"You won't have to," her mom had replied, "you are going to pack enough for one week and we'll pack the rest."
So I'm packing. I finish and decided to check in on Kyle to see what he felt about this. I knock on his door. No answer. I open it, and there was still no sign of him. I call his name and open the closet in case he's hiding.
The room is surprisingly clean. Wait a minute, there, on the otherwise spotless desk, there was a phoenix feather. I pick it up and another appeared on the floor. I pick that one up and follow the trail. It led to one of the walls. There was a message written on it.At first I couldn't read it, but soon words became visible. Here is the message as it was written on the wall.
Amber,
I am in the tree house with my buddy john. Ask for C3PO R2D2 and Yoda Han Solo at the Wizard's tavern, Make sure to ask Lea, and Don't Ask Ewok.
Here is my translation.
Amber,
I am in the tree house with my buddy John. Ask for C3PO R2D2 and Yoda Han Solo at the wizard's tavern. Make sure to ask Lea, and Don't Ask Ewok.
"Hey Mom," I yell.
"Yes Honey?" I heard mom reply. I race downstairs.
"Mom, can I go to the treehouse?" I ask.
"Sure honey," My mom allowed. So I run outside and tell the treehouse that I want to go up. As soon as the branch lands, I jump on. It seems to know I am in a hurry and rises quickly to the top. I step off and take off running for the Wizard's tavern. It is right next to the pool, I remembered that.
I see it come into sight and burst through the door. The girl at the counter looked up and says, "Hello sugar! My name's Ethel Wendy Opal Kingman. You can call me Miss E. or Ethel. I'm going to be your waitress." Ethel Wendy Opal Kingman... Why would she take the time to say all those names? Wait a minute! If I take the first letter of each name, it spells EWOK! Remembering my manners, I quickly tried to say hello.
"Um, err, Hi Mrs. Ewo – I mean, Mrs. E," I stutter.
"Hi," came a bright voice from the corner, "I'm Lilian." I turn around to look. Lea! She even looks like Princess Lea.
"Miss Lilian," I walk over to her, "Do you happen to know a C3POR2D2 or a Yoda Han Solo?" I ask. She looks around, perhaps wondering if this is a trap, or if someone is watching.
"Amber?" she whispered, her eyes widening.
"That would be me," I replied.
"This way," Lillian said. She leads me to a booth with a star wars painting hanging above it. "Touch Yoda's hand when you're ready," She informs me. I look at the painting. It is of Yoda training Luke Skywalker. I realize Lillian had left and pressed Yoda's hand. Everything went black.
"She's coming to," says a voice.
"Kyle?" I moan
"That would be me," laughs the voice. Ha! that's what I said earlier. I thought. I struggle to open my eyes.
"It's so bright," I complain.
"Actually it's pretty dark to me!" John said.
When my eyes finally get used to how much light is in the room, I ask, "Why did you leave?"
"That's classified information," Kyle replied, "You already know too much."
"Classified, Shmassified. Why did you leave me the note if you didn't want me to know your secrets?" I demanded.
"Err, um, gee, I donno...." They seemed lost for words.
"You don't want to leave because of this hideout; you don't want to leave each other, what? I'm sure I can make mom take the tree house with us if that's what you really want. I think John's parents would agree to work for Aunt Dawn if we asked them nicely enough. Just tell me. Why don't you want to leave?" I reasoned. Kyle and John exchanged a glance. Then they nodded.
"Amber, if you make John's parents agree to work for Aunt Dawn and have mom take the tree house with us and I'll come out. John,
go with her, will you?" Kyle said. John looked surprised, but Kyle gave him a look that said, please don't argue, I have a plan. So John nervously stretched his hand out to me. I took it. John looked relieved.
Then he touched Yoda's hand. Apparently you didn't black out while coming out of the hideout. Or maybe you didn't with two people. In any case, we come out underneath the table. At least there were no people eating there. We crawl out and then walk out as if nothing unusual had happened.
I notice that John still hasn't let go of my hand. It's actually kind of nice. We go to where the tree lets people get off of the tree house and then step onto the waiting branch. I still haven't gotten over the fast drop and I cling tightly to John's arm. I blush when we get to the ground and let go.
"So should we talk to your mom first or my mom first?" I pondered.
"I think your mom first," John answers, "She decides everything."
"I agree," I reply.
"Can I tell you something?" he asks me.
"What is it?" I say.
"I'm afraid of meeting your mom," he admits sheepishly. I'm confused for a moment, and then I remember. My mom is the master! I understand how someone could be afraid.
I tell him, "Don't worry. I'll personally introduce you." I walk in through the back door. "Mom!" I call.
"I'm upstairs honey!" the reply, "I can't find Kyle!"
"I know where Kyle is mom. I was just with him," I say, racing up the stairs. "Mom, this is John and we have a deal for you." I say.

"What?! Kyle is in the tree house? Tell him to come out of there right now!" mom yells, furious.
"Now that's where the deal comes out." I say calmly.
"Young lady, I am going too go retrieve Kyle right now, and I will have none of whatever deal you have!" mom says, and John shrinks back from her rage.
"Kyle won't come out unless you promise to take the tree house with us. He and John both want John's parents to work for Aunt Dawn. We're going to ask them after you say yes." I explain. Mom is still angry.
"Um, excuse me, Mrs., um, no, uh, Master?" John tries too ask mom something. The look in her eyes softens.
"What is it Kyle?"
"We just want too stay together Ma'am. We thought we could just ask you...reasonable....just a saftey measure....nicer..." he trails off mumbling.
Mom looks closer too letting us go through with the deal.
"Mom, can you look past Kyle and just at the deal? Is it that unreasonable?" I ask
"Just being a good mom" She mumbles, still uncertain.
"Mom?" I prompted.
"Alright. You may go. Be back soon!" She calls after us.
"Thanks, bye!" I said, already rushing out of the door with John in tow. "Where do you live?" I question him.
"This way!" He yells over the traffic, pulling me right. When we reach his house, it's very small. John takes a key from under the mat and let himself in. "Mom!" he calls.
"I'm in Jordan's room," comes the reply. John walks down the hall.
"Mom, this is Kyle's sister Amber. Their family is moving and her mom said that their Aunt Dawn is taking employees. We could move with them," he explains. His mother looks up from the little toddler and I can see the stress lines on her face. But she still looks kindly at us.
"We don't have very much money to spare," she says softly, "Not enough for a moving van. The work would be welcome though."
"I'll ask my mom if she can load your stuff in the moving van with ours. I'm sure she'll say yes," I insist. "You could come with Kyle, Anabelle and I. We're leaving early."
John's mom looks at me and said, "If your mom is generous enough to do all of this we will come. In any case, we want to go. But we cannot, so we will stay." She decides. I breath a sigh of relief.
"I'll go ask my mom!" I yell in my excitement. I run all the way to my house, only stopping for a stop sign. "Mom! John's mother said that they don't have enough money to hire a moving van and she wanted to know if you have enough room for her stuff in our van because she said that the money would be welcome so will you please let them move with us?!" I ask in a rush.
"I think we might have some room," she says, smiling. "But I want to tell her myself. Show me the way!" she declares. We march all the way to John's house. When we get to the front door, John comes out.
"You brought your mom?" he whispers incredulously.
"She insisted on coming," I reply. The three of us go into the house. John's mom comes out of Jordan's room.
"Hello! I would be delighted if you would move with us, but first I wanted to get to know you. My name is Lia." She introduces herself. I had never heard my mom's real name before. It sounds beautiful.
"Thank you for letting us come. It will just be Jordon, John and I. Please call me Reyna." She said, "Reyna Moore." I look at John, surprised. I can't believe I never asked his last name. John Moore, Jordan Moore, and their mother Reyna Moore. It all fit, just as wanting to be Amber Moore fit.
