Chapter two
"Who said that?" He said.
"Here-they're right here." She said louder.
Percy and I dash from the crowd and run through the halls. They are much faster than us and will catch up to us. C'mon think Liam! Think. I thought. What can I do to stop them?
"Percy do you have any ideas?" I ask. He stops so suddenly that I think he might fall over. His glasses are almost sent flying.
"Ideas? Of course I have an idea. We've known each other for our whole lives and you don't think I know what to do?" He snapped.
"Okay, okay!" I say quickly. "We need to go." Before either of us can move big hands grab us and pin us against the wall. I almost gag at the awful stench of Jared's breath.
"Going somewhere?" He said with a growl. I squirm under his grip trying desperately to escape. I knew this time it would be much harder to escape. Jared had something hooked onto his belt loop and I wondered what it was, until he took it off and spoke into it. Then I knew we were in big trouble.
"We have them," Jared spoke into a small walkie-talkie.
A voice replied very slowly, "Good work, don't let them escape or the deal is off."
"Yes sir," Jared said and hooked the walkie-talkie onto his belt loop.
A scream escapes Percy's throat and everything erupts into chaos. The school doors open at that moment and the crowds of people rush in. Jared seemed confused and looked at his watch.
"Forty one eight?" He asks and shows someone his watch. "Oh, Eight forty one."
I was so focused on thinking of a plan I didn't even think about running. Percy had already bolted and had started running towards the classroom. I ran as fast as I could, trying to catch up with him. Percy was a natural runner and it had taken hard work to be as fast as he was. When Percy is about to turn to the next corner Percy smacks straight into his math teacher.
"What have I told everyone in this school about running in the halls?" She says angrily.
"Sorry," Percy said "It was Jared again."
"That boy does not give up teasing you two."
"Yeah,"
"Okay, what was he doing this time?" She asks.
"I don't know he was talking to someone on a walkie-talkie."
"Okay well I will see you later," she said.
The bell rang, and I knew we had to hurry or he could keep us in the halls and if they ever caught us again, I don't think we'd be so lucky. All I knew is they were up to something, and I knew it wasn't good. I ran towards the classroom with Percy at my side, hoping we would survive another day.
