Waking up early you took one look over your surroundings seeing no one was awake.

Y/N: No one is awake huh. Hmmm. Guess I go prepare for the initiation.

Leaving for the locker room Ruby and Yang would join a while later. They are busy with readying themselves for what lies ahead.

Yang: So, you seem way more cheerier than where I left you yesterday.

Ruby: Yup! Today's the initiation.

Yang: And?

Ruby: And it means no awkward small talk. No arguments with Miss Princess over there.

Weiss simply glares at Ruby before returning to her preparations.

Ruby: Well anyways Crescent Rose will do all the talking. Just me and my sweetheart.

Yang: Aren't you forgetting that you're not the only one doing this? I mean look around you. Ruby, you're going to have to meet new people and learn to work together.

Ruby: (sighs) Ugh, you sound just like dad. What did you not hear about Crescent Rose doing all the talking?

Yang: And teams? Can she talk for you?

Ruby: Well no. Though I thought that maybe I could be either on yours or Y/N's team.

Y/N: (suddenly appears) I hear my name.

Ruby: (startled) Y/N! You scared me.

Y/N: Sorry Zippy.

Yang: Y/N, clear this up. Do you think that it is be a good idea for Ruby to be on someone's team that she doesn't know?

Y/N: Well I never been on much teams. With my dad he talked about how the SHD had this system where people would either form a sort of group for a mission, go solo, or just form a team permanently.

Yang: See, even they did it.

Y/N: I'm not done yet. The permanent teams in his opinion were more effective. You got to know who's covering you. Not just that but an understanding of what's there limits. Random agents don't work as effective compared to all those agents who knew each other.

Ruby: See! And who better to work with than my sister that I knew my while life and Y/N.

Y/N: I barely met you a few days ago.

Ruby: And there's chemistry. I mean in that I know you and you know me.

Yang: Well I'm going to go now. You two can chat it up with your chemistry.

Yang goes leaving only you and Ruby as the others have already left.

Ruby: I'm curious. What's your semblance?

Y/N: It's odd.

Ruby: It can't be that odd. I mean Yang's lets her take hits to make herself stronger.

Y/N: You know I have armor plates, ammo, grenades, and stuff?

Ruby: Yeah.

Y/N: If I really need it I can get those things from enemies killed.

Ruby: Really? Like can you get any type of ammo? Wait how does it come out?

Y/N: I don't know. Though it only comes for my weapons. Then it's rarer for ammo to drop that's for my signature weapon.

Ruby: Woah! I imagine that you save a lot of money.

Y/N: You have no idea.

Ruby: Well I don't think it's odd. I mean I like it. (sees the TAC-50 C Rifle) What's that?

Y/N: A signature weapon. Think I will call it Ashes. You know how my symbol is that bird called a Phoenix?

Ruby: Yeah.

Y/N: Well they rise from the ashes.

Ruby: You mind if I were to maybe-

Y/N: Fine but we're running low on time so while you look at Ashes I will make sure you don't fall.

Slipping your fingers through Ruby's you grab ahold of her hand. Initially shocked she calms down and squeezes it.

You knew that this gesture of yours be seen as possibly something else entirely but you did it regardless. Sure Ruby did it but that was only when she was dragging you somewhere and it was for that. Ruby meanwhile went with it as despite being surprised by the gesture she did like the thought.

Y/N: If I seen you handle Crescent Rose then you can hold Ashes with a hand and inspect it at the same time.

Ruby: Well you're not wrong.

Y/N: Now c'mon.

Looking back you see Ruby inspecting Ashes rather easily despite the one hand. She gloss over it with such concentration people could think she was a Paleontologist.

Y/N: If you want maybe tomorrow you could test it out.

Ruby: Really! Then you could try Crescent Rose also.

Y/N: I'm not going to say I wasn't the least bit curious on it.

Ruby: I'm going to put it back.

Despite Ashes being placed back neither one of you let go. Arriving you saw Yang first.

Yang: Sooo what's ya doing?

Ruby: (lets go of hand) Nothing.

Yang: Right. Anyways Ozpin is about to do a speech. Good luck.

Going to the launch pads that overlooked the forest you pulled out a booklet and began to read. You asked Ruby's father what to expect as you already knew what is going to happen.

Ozpin: ....Are there any questions?

Jaune: (raising his hand) Yeah, um, sir?

Ozpin: Good! Now, take your positions.

You simply put one finger in the air signaling to wait. Finishing you put the booklet back in your pocket.

Glynda: Now are you done doing a prayer for the students?

Y/N: I originally needed something to read to pass the time. That and I believe one day this booklet will stop a bullet for me.

You looked to your left to see all the students being launched one by one.

Y/N: That's a long way down.

Ozpin: Believe me it is.

With that you were launched into the air and going down towards the forest below.

Falling with style you pull out Ashes from the backpack and begin shooting at the incoming trees in your way. Firing all the seven rounds in its magazine you grab riot foam canister to activate. The foam quickly covers you entirely and hardened. It broke upon impact.

Y/N: Should've done what the other students were doing with their melee weapons. Though I have my semblance it's overkill. Yeah.

Looking up to the sky you tried to get a sense of where you are. Though the forest's canopy blocked your vision was block rit only leaving the sense of an endless void with nothing but trees in either direction.

No one in sight you did the one thing to do in a situation such as this. Pulling out a compass you went North. Walking you see Jaune stuck on a tree.

Y/N: Hey Jaune. Notice you have red haired girl's spear pinning your shirt. What was her name anyways?

Jaune: Apparently Pyrrha.

Y/N: Huh. Well I'm not going to look up as I think she is your partner. Good luck.

Jaune: Thanks. I think I'll need it.

Seeing you walk away he brings to remember the predicament he's in.

Jaune: Wait! Can you get me down?

Y/N: Alright. Though you are not gonna like this. You have four options: grenade, cutting you down, explosive, or sticky bomb.

Placing a fragmentation grenade on the base of the tree you run behind a tree to avoid the possible shrapnel. Aiming Red you shoot the grenade bringing down the tree.

Jaune: Ahhhhhh. Thanks.

Y/N: (walks up to Jaune) Close your eyes.

Jaune: Why?

Y/N: I can't risk meeting your eyes or we're teammates and that honor falls for Pyrrha.

Pulling out the spear you inspect the weapon before handing it to Jaune.
 
Y/N: Well Jaune I would say take it easy but I'm sure trouble finds you. (leaves)

Jaune: (to himself) Great... I guess I will wait for Pyrrha.

Moments later Weiss appears as she pushed some pants out of the way followed by Ruby.

Weiss: What happened to you? I know for a fact that the explosion couldn't be you.

Being dragged by her hood away from Jaune who was waiting for Pyrrha Ruby held some thoughts of the matter.

Ruby: (thoughts) Dang it. I was this close to having someone I liked as a teammate.

As for you for some odd reason no Grimm has been spotted yet. Sure it was a good thing but what kind of academy initiation does not have Grimm? Though this did not stop others from their own encounters.

Looking behind you see all the trees being set ablaze by fire.

Y/N: Thank god I'm not using the incendiary rounds. Who in their right mind uses fire in a forest? Smokey the bear would be ashamed.

With this fire you saw students attempting to run away as Grimm began to chase them.

Y/N: (sighs) Someone just had to cause the Grimm to panic.

Going after the team do students you saw that they were cornered. Worse you saw how these students were fatigue.

Y/N: Fuck it.

Pulling our your stick bomb your aim at what was the pack leader's head. They all looked at you before you detonate the explosive. Pulling out Epilogue you aim at the beasts.

Y/N: (to the team of students) Well don't just stand there. Run while I distract them.

Taking more potshots the pack began to chase you. Worse was even more Grimm joined this pack in after you. Too much to handle on your own. You even saw a Death Stalker or two.

As this happened on the ground Glynda and Ozpin were viewing students progress.

Glynda: Hmmm... It seems that Y/N hasn't acquired a partner. The only student to.

Ozpin: Well he did give up his chance. Now what is he up to?

Running you began setting explosives on the trees. Some were delayed to kill these Grimm directly while others meant to cause the trees to fall to block their path.

A Beowolf tried jumping from a close by tree but pushing it over your head you unholster Red before firing a few rounds into it.

Y/N: Sorry Smokey but I'm going to need to do this.

Grabbing the chem launcher you shoot your chem launcher ahead of your path. Grabbing an incendiary you thew it into the air only to shoot it causing the to release all its contents. Rolling over the gas cloud you see how all the fire combined with the firestarter gas burned the Grimm.

Ozpin: Interesting.

Glynda: That still does not excuse the fact that Y/N does not have a partner.

Ozpin: You have to give him style points with the fire shower.

Glynda: How is it that he just now garnered this much attention? Too much to handle.

Ozpin: Y/N will find his way out of this. Now as for the two teams that combined.

Y/N was not in a good spot at the moment as he was effectively cornered at the cliff as the Grimm drew closer.

Y/N: ISAC send my coordinates to Glynda. I know they're watching students.

Right as the they arrived you jumped off the cliff and into the water below.

Glynda: I received some coordinates form an unknown source. The peculiar thing about is that they at the edge of the initiation grounds.

Ozpin's eyes bulged out as he realized who it was. Spitting out his coffee he talked.

Ozpin: Send in a search party immediately to that location!
