Chapter 28: Uncle Fester

Wednesday: Yes you did, you destroyed him indirectly as you said.

Evelyn: Haha! Anyways, bed, I'm tired

Wednesday: You're right, sleep is probably the best thing right now

Evelyn: Yeah, we can figure out everything tomorrow, a lot has happened and it shouldn't have to be resolved right now.

Wednesday: Once again, you're right

Evelyn: Can't always be like my brother, one of us has to be smart

_____________

Today was the day of Mayor Walker's funeral, everyone turned up to mourn the death of a man that I didn't entirely liked. Blue stood next to Evelyn, Enid and Adam while I stood by myself.

Enid didn't really want to speak to me and I wasn't sure on what Blue's opinion was on me now. I imagine he doesn't hold any hatred for me, he can't seem to do that to anyone.

I enjoy funerals, I've been crashing them since I was old enough to read the obituary section. Mayor Walker was murdered, and I know the killer is here, standing innocently among us, plotting their next move.

And watching everything I do, I know I'm close to the truth, I have all the pieces of the jigsaw. I just need to slot them into place. I must look past the tears and masks of grief, until now, I may have been outmatched and outmaneuvered.

But the final gambit has yet to be played. The killer will make a mistake and I'll be ready.

While thinking to myself, I could feel that someone's eyes were on me, I tilt my head to the side and saw a shadowy figure quickly vanish into the forest. I decided to quietly leave the funeral and pursue this mysterious person.

Evelyn was the only one to see see me leave, and so she decided to go after me into the forest. We reach a clearing and look around before someone jumps down from a tree, I react quickly and took out a hidden sword from my umbrella and thrust towards the man.

He catches it easily and shocked the sword, causing me to drop it, Evelyn was ready to kick the man's legs but I stop her. And for the first time for a while now, I smile widely because there was only one person who could do that.

Fester: Still as sharp as ever, my pigtailed protègè

Wednesday: Uncle Fester!

Evelyn: Uncle who?

Wednesday: Fester, he is family

Evelyn: I can see, but....why is he here?

Wednesday: I don't know. How long have you been stalking me for?

Fester: Just blew into town this morning and was hit by a wave of nostalgia

Wednesday: I thought you didn't go to Nevermore?

Fester: I didn't, your dad got all the brains. But I used to drop in on him, usually from the ceiling with a dagger clutched between my teeth. Just to keep him on his toes

Wednesday: Of course

Evelyn: That sounds cool! I want to do that on my brother!

Fester: I don't mind teaching you.......uhh

Evelyn: Evelyn Light

Fester: Evelyn! Lovely name. Anyways, your father filled me in on what's been going on. Monsters, murder, mayhem. What fun! I told him that I had a job in Boston, but I'd be checking up on you

Wednesday: What kind of job?

Fester: The kind that means I need somewhere to lay low for a couple of days.

Wednesday:.....I've got a place

Evelyn: The Gulag!

Fester: G-Gulag!?

Me and Evelyn lead my uncle to the bee hive, I was going to let him stay in the shed but I knew I had to place some rules down. We enter the shed and found out that Blue and Adam were already there, working with the bees.

Blue: Oh hello sister, Wednesday and suspicious looking man that definitely doesn't give children PTSD.

Adam: He looks like a crack addict

Fester: Th-That's a bit.....much

Wednesday: Don't worry about that. This is Adam, Evelyn's cousin.

Evelyn: And that's Blue, my twin brother and Local Demon

Blue: Hola Cabron!

Fester: Oh so you're the Demon boy that my brother has told me about! A pleasure to meet you both. I'm Fester, Wednesday's uncle.

Blue: Ah, another Addams family member

Adam: Good to see you as well, I'm assuming you're sleeping here because you're on the run?

Fester: Yes....how did you know?

Adam:...I didn't, I just assumed

Fester: Ahh, clever. You made some interesting friends, Wednesday.

Wednesday: This place also belongs to another friend

Fester: I see. Oh, I like a hideout that comes with snacks!

Blue: Snacks? But I don't see any

Wednesday: Uncle Fester, those bees are hibernating. They're practically Eugene's children, that means do not eat them!

Blue: You will suffer the consequences for it

Fester: Oh fine, and what consequences are we taking about here?

Adam: Death

Fester: O-Oh

Blue: By whatever method we choose, and we always start with the extreme

Fester: I-I see....co-consequences, I will do my best to not eat them

Wednesday: And don't try it behind any of our backs

Blue: We will know

Adam: Always

Fester: You know, when you give me that death stare of disapproval, you remind me of your mother.

Blue: Mothers can be scary

Evelyn: Speaking from experience

Adam: You're basically asking for it with your attitude

Evelyn: Hey! I hate it when you're right!

Fester: Speaking of scary things, you know what kind of monster you're dealing with?

Wednesday: I haven't bern able to identify it, but Blue mentioned it was called a Hyde

Fester: Ahh, he is right. How did you know?

Blue: A........someone told me......

Adam: It was that Warden Demon, right?

Blue: Yeah.....

Evelyn: Ah crap, he is stalking you!

Blue: Going to need that restraining order big man

Adam: He will definitely listen after looking at it

Fester: Another Demon? With us?

Blue: Nope, he is against us and more interested in me

Fester: Interesting. Anyways, I've seen a Hyde before, in '83, during my vacay at the Zurich Institute for the Criminally Insane. Where I got my first lobotomy, but you know lobotomies, they're like tattoos, can't just get one

Wednesday: Can you tell me about the Hyde?

Fester: Ah, Olga Malacova. Jeez, she had it all. Beauty, brains, and a penchant for necrophilia!

Blue: Eve, what's N-?

Evelyn: NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Adam: Oh my God, move on already!

Wednesday: Don't talk about that around Blue, Uncle Fester

Fester: R-Right, sorry. Olga was a concert pianist, until one night she transformed in the middle of a Chopin Sonata. Massacres a dozen audience members and three music critics

Blue: That'll teach them for thinking negatively about her skills

Adam: Dark but still funny

Blue: I know right?

Wednesday: What triggered her? Or did she just change on her own?

Fester: No idea, I only saw her in group electroshock therapy

Evelyn: Sounds shocking-!

Blue: Kill yourself....now!

Evelyn: Oh come on, that's too harsh!

Blue: Fine, how about you build a bridge and jump off it!?

Evelyn: That's the same thing!

Wednesday: There's never been any mention of Hydes in any Outcast Book, and Nevermore is reputed for having the best collection

Fester: You try Nathaniel Faulkner's diary? Before he founded Nevermore, Faulkner traveled the world, cataloging every outcast community

Wednesday: How do you know this?

Fester: You think your parents can't keep their hands off each other, oy vey. I showed up unannounced one night in Gomez's dorm room, let's just say I wasn't interrupting a pillow fight-!

Wednesday: Uncle Fester! Not in front of Blue!

Fester: M-My bad! Sorry! A-Again!

Blue: Were they playing Mario Kart?

Adam: Blue, Mario Kart wasn't a thing back then, I think.....

Evelyn: Just don't worry about it

Wednesday: Exactly, now....the diary, where is it?

Fester: Nightshades Library, your dad parked me there and said I should settle in for a long stretch. And that's when I found this nifty little safe, I was hoping for a stash of cash or jewels, but instead I found a diary

Wednesday: We'll sneak into the Nightshades Library tonight, in the meantime, lay low. If you are discovered, I will disown you and collect the reward tied to your capture

Blue: Aw cool, that sounds like a cool game we could play

Adam: Place a bounty on Evelyn and give her 10 minutes to run before we hunt her down

Evelyn: That's effed up, I'm in!

Blue: Oh, Wednesday, you need me for anything?

Wednesday: No, I'm fine. I'll be back at my dorm now

Evelyn: I'm actually going to come as well

Blue: I need to do something soooooo

Adam: [Sighs] Guess I'm watching Fester

Fester: Oh you don't need to watch me

Adam: Yeah no, you're going to eat the bees when no one is watching

Fester: D-Damn....can't believe you knew

Adam: It's not that hard to read you
______________

Blue's POV
______________

Wednesday and Evelyn go back to their dorm and I take another walk into the forest. The reason I went here was because I could feel someone watching me once more, it was him.

Warden, the Mysterious Moon Demon.

I've read about them from one of my father's books. Moon Demons were cool in my head, they were secluded and didn't want to be out in the open. They have a close connection with the moon and all of their abilities were from it.

They were mysterious and preferred it to be like that. But then, the group were massacred by something...or someone, my father didn't write down the cause and I could only wonder what type of horror was out there.

To bring down most of the Moon Demons? Yeah nah, you a threat for that.

Back to the present though, I felt the winds suddenly pick up behind me so I take out my father's katana and block an oncoming attack. It was Warden, as I predicted, and he tried to catch me off guard with his very long Moon staff or whatever it is.

Warden: I see that your guard is never down, boy

Blue: You can't catch me slipping!

Warden: What about the Hyde?

Blue: You distracted me!

Warden: You seemed to like staring at me

Blue: You are a unique looking demon after all

Warden: A nice compliment, but that will get you nowhere

Warden was hovering above the air during out weapon lock so he flips himself over and behind me so that he can sweep my legs off the ground with a sliding turn kick.

I recover and swing the katana at his direction, only for Warden to block it and slide back on his feet across the ground.

Warden: So that is the Legendary Sutakira, interesting, did your father leave it for you?

Blue: He did, his sword will always be known as his

Warden: You don't....recognise it as your own?

Blue: No, I could never see it as mine

Warden stares at me for a moment before he blitzed towars me, we clash our weapons and held them in place in a lock.

Warden: And why is that? Your father is dead and so it passes down to you

Blue: I-I know, but I'm not worthy

Warden: Start seeing yourself as worthy, boy

I push Warden forward and kick him back, it doesn't do much but at least I know I can get hits in.

Blue: Okay, big man, we need to talk. What are you here for? What do you want with me? Because you're almost speaking in riddles and I don't want to think I'm fighting Jim Carrey!

Warden: Because you're too young to understand, Blue Light. But in time, you will, you are important for the future and we just want to know where you will end up. With us....or not

Blue: Woah woah, hold up. Who is "we"?

Warden: Again, you will understand another time. For now, I'm just observing you, I'm testing you to see where your power ends up

Blue: I'm curious on that, but I also need answers!

Warden: Another time, Son of Lupercio

Blue: Screw the "another time!" I want to know now!

Warden:.......No

Just like last time, Warden disappears completely and I'm left there, confused and annoyed.

Blue: Ah for flips sake, guess I have to play the bloody waiting game with him

Wednesday's POV
___________________

It was my writing time so I was focusing on that while Evelyn was on her phone, I was thinking about the Gates Mansion and what I saw during my visit.

Wednesday: If Laurel Gates died 20 years ago, then who's sleeping in her bedroom?

Evelyn: The Hyde?

Wednesday: Definitely not, it can't take one step without destroying something. Back onto the case, why do they have photos of me? And what is their connection to the Hyde?

Evelyn: I'm going to have to stop you there, my head hurts

Wednesday: Come on, usually you can listen to these unlike your brother

Evelyn: Oh I know, but he literally doesn't listen. I listen and I'm thinking about every damn plot twist

I sigh, but before I can say anything, the door opens up go reveal our former roommate, Enid Sinclair. She steps inside and I could tell that there was a sense of awkwardness around her.

Evelyn also didn't know what to say but the Wolf Girl gained the courage to speak first.

Enid: Hi, s-sorry, I figured you were still at Mayor Walker's Wake.

Wednesday: As soon as the dirt hits the coffin, I'm out

Evelyn:......[Cough] Well this is great

Enid: Y-Yes, so I can't seem to find my bottle of silver moon nail polish. Do you mind if I look around? Yoko's hosting a mani-pedi party for her crew

Evelyn: That's cool, oh and you're always allowed to come here, Enid. This is still your dorm room to me and Wednesday

Wednesday: This is the third time in 24 hours that you've forgotten something

Evelyn:.....Oh yeah

Enid: So, how is everything going?

Wednesday: Solitude suits me. With no annoying distractions, I'm almost finished with my novel

Enid: Was I an annoying distraction?

Evelyn: Oh no

Wednesday: You definitely had some annoying habits

Evelyn: Girls, please-

Enid: Such as?

Wednesday: You giggle when you text, which is a 24/7 addiction

Evelyn: We don't need to do this!

Enid: At least it's not a migraine-inducing typewriter hammering into my head

Wednesday: When you're not grinding your canines, you growl in your sleep

Enid: As opposed to late-night cello solos?

Evelyn: [Sighs] Nevermind then, I'll let them chat shit

Wednesday: You over-commit to activities, then complain about them

Enid: I'd take that over your obsession with things that are creepy

Wednesday: You could gas an entire village with the amount of perfume you spritz. That's just the top of my head

Enid: Guess I'm lucky with the new bestie that doesn't try to find ways to endanger literally everybody-!

Evelyn: Alright, that's enough! Both of you!

Enid: B-But Evelyn-!

Evelyn: No! It's like I'm watching parents arguing! Just stop it! It's getting annoying! Look.....just give each other space, calm yourselves and we'll see what happens in the future

Wednesday:.....You're right, we're both being childish right now. I'll....talk to you later?

Enid: W-We will see

Enid leaves and now it was just silence between myself and Evelyn, she was right about everything. There was something between us and it needs mending, I'd hate to say it but the one person I would go to fix this, would be Blue.
