Chapter 25: A Pointless Birthday
Evelyn: B-But it's morally wrong! What would Blue think about all of this?
Weems: He doesn't know
Evelyn: He trusts you!
Wednesday: And I'll tell him right now if I have to
Weems: N-No! Don't tell him!
Evelyn: My brother jokes about wanting to fight the monster. But I can tell, underneath that comedic curtain, he wants to kill that monster. He doesn't like to, but it has already killed one friend and sent the other to the hospital
Weems: I know, Evelyn, but I have to do this. I don't want to but I can't have anything bad go for the school
Wednesday: Which isn't working
The three were going to go at it again but suddenly, they heard students panicking outside so they look through the windows and saw that there was a message burning on the grass:
Fire Will Rain.
Evelyn: What the?
Wednesday: Now this is interesting
Weems: Indeed, who, on our grounds, would do this?
Evelyn: Not my brother.......

Wednesday's POV
____________________
That message meant something, but I wasn't sure what it was implying at all, I left Weems' office and went to do my own thing, like planning my next move.
A few days passed and I was currently alone in my dorm room, reciting a dark chant as I was holding a necklace my mother gave to me. Candles surrounded me and an Ouija board with "Goody" written on it was in front of me.
My mother told me that Goody was the only one that could train me to control my psychic ability, so I was going to contact her with this set up. The sooner I can master it, the sooner I can solve this case.
But then, as always, things go wrong and this time it was in the form of my two roommates opening the door to interrupt me. A gust of wind flows through and snuffs out the candles, I thought it had worked at first, especially when I saw a figure emerged from the shadows.
But like I said, it was only Enid and Evelyn.
Enid: Sorry, we didn't mean to interrupt your....uhh....do I even want to know?
Evelyn: She is trying to communicate with Michael Jackson
Wednesday: No, I was reaching into the black maw of death to contact a relative
Evelyn: Oh that's cool, I want to try it
Wednesday: Another time
Enid: You have a relative named Goody?
Wednesday: She was one of the orignal Outcasts, I've been trying to summon her, but she seems to be ignoring my entreaties
Enid: Oh, you thought about using one of my scented candles? The aroma of steak tartare is to die for
A noise was heard and we look under our door to see that a slip of paper had slid underneath it. I walked over and picked it up to see that there was a message on it.
Wednesday: If you want answers, come to Crackstone Crypt at Midnight
Evelyn: Oooo, very scary, your ancestor is good at setting things up
Wednesday: I doubt she communicates in magazine cutouts
The three of us decided to leave our dorm and head for Crackstone's Crypt, so that we can investigate all of this. Enid was scared and would flinch at sudden noises which Evelyn and myself weren't impressed with.
Evelyn: Come on, Enid, nothing is going to pop out
Enid: I-I know but it's still scary
Wednesday: You insisted on coming along, I was fine on my own. Seems like our wannabe Deep Throat is over here.
Enid: E-Ew, what died here?
Evelyn: Something died here? Let's find the body!
Wednesday: Smells like childhood, come on
Enid: O-On second thought, why don't I just stay out here? You know, as a lookout
Evelyn: [Sighs] I'll stay with her, make sure she doesn't get jumped, you fine to go in on your own?
Wednesday: Don't forget who I am, Evelyn
Evelyn: Right, I forgot, I should be concerned for whoever is in there
I head inside the Crypt with a flashlight in hand to analyse any possible hint that could be there, I heard some whispers coming from behind the tomb so I was ready for my attacker.
Wednesday: Whoever you are, show yourself. Try anything and you'll lose your limbs
I awaited for the mysterious person but again, I was left disappointed when I saw a familiar group of teenagers emerge from the darkness with a cake in hand.
I was really irritated now because my time was wasted, they began to sing that horrible song but then I could see one of the masterminds behind this.
Thing.
Wednesday: I should've known you were behind this. What part of "no party under the penalty of death" do you not understand?
Blue: Come on, Wednesday, it's your birthday
Wednesday: And I do not want to celebrate it because I don't have the time
Evelyn: Come on, the cake look cool
Xavier: Yeah, I thought my cake design was pretty inspired
Blue: With the little Grim Reaper and the Pink balloon....although I thought that black would've been better
Wednesday: It would be much better
Enid: Awww, but the pink was my idea!
Blue: Sorry Enid, I would've been the better planner, I mean the whole message thing was good, no?
Wednesday: You get a N for No, but who slipped the paper?
Adam: I did, then I used my ability to jump through the wall and was caught by Blue. We ran all the way here and got ready for your arrival
Blue: I was debating on whether I should let him land or not
Yoko: Did you want to see if he would take fall damage?
Blue: Yeah, of course
Adam: I thank the Lord because I would've been scared if he decided to not catch me
Wednesday: I would have to agree with Blue, that would've been interesting to see
Adam:.....[Sighs] I'm not surprised
Enid: Anyways, why don't you make a wish?
I ignore Enid and noticed something written on the wall, it was Latin for-
Wednesday: Fire will rain....when I rise
Enid: That's....not really a wish
Blue: Yeah, I was thinking more of "I wish the monster shows up, now"
Evelyn: Oh yeah, that would be good, every party needs a clown
Adam: I thought it was Ajax
Ajax: Oh come on!
Yoko: He has a point, damn, I should've dressed you up as one!
Ajax: Hell no!
Wednesday: The first part of that was burned onto Nevermore's lawn, it can't be a coincidence
Blue: Another mystery?
Wednesday: Another part added to the already big one we have on our hands
Blue: I see, well it should be no problem for the two of us, I can even call Batman if you want!
Adam: That would be too easy
Blue: Yeah good point, Sherlock-? No no, that's equally as effective as Batman.
Ajax: Wait, we're never eating that cake, are we?
Yoko: Ajax, shut up for one moment
Ajax: Hey! Why don't you tell Blue to do the same?!
Yoko: Because I'm not going to tell my cru-uhhhhhsh.....uhhh.....friend, to shut up
Ajax: Firstly, I'm depressed that you don't see me as your friend. But we know you like Blue-!
Yoko: Shush!
I ignore what was going on behind me and focused on the carved-in words, I traced my hands over them and started to experience another vision. Before my vision appears somewhere else, I just about saw Blue react in time and catching me before I fell.
I should be angry but lately I couldn't be asked to tell him to stop that, he doesn't mind and I've become less annoyed with each time this happens.
Back to my vision, I was now in front of a gate to a manor, and beyond that gate stood Goody Addams.
Goody: Crackstone is coming, Crackstone is coming
Wednesday: Goody, you're the Raven in my bloodline. I was told that you could teach me how to control my ability
Goody: There is no controlling a raging river, you must learn to navigate it without drowning. Time is not on our side, to stop Crackstone, this place you must seek
Wednesday: Do you always speak in riddles?
Goody: Do you always seek simple answers? The path of a Raven is a solitary one. You end up alone, unable to trust others, only seeing the darkness within them
Wednesday: I trust Blue, Evelyn, Adam and Enid
Goody: But do you really?
Wednesday: Why can't I just get Blue to deal with Crackstone?
Goody: It is not a bad idea, I have seen what the handsome Son of Lupercio can do, but he will not always be there. He has his own problems to deal with.
Wednesday: Are you referring to his Demon Stalker? And why did you just call him handsome?
Goody: I am, both statements by the way. Hut that will be one of the problems that he will have to deal with. Past that, he has more, including the other prophecy
Wednesday:....I almost forgot, I need to know why I cause his death
Goody: I do not know how, all I can say is that you shouldn't betray him
Wednesday: I wouldn't do that
Goody: We shall see......
Goody disappears and I find myself woken up from my vision and in Blue's arms, he was concerned again but I free myself from his grasp and leave the Crypt. The next morning arrives and I was currently doing my homework when Thing crawls onto my shoulder.
Wednesday: Careful, that's my cold shoulder
Evelyn: I thought they were both cold, also don't blame Thing
Enid: Evelyn's right, the party was my idea, everyone deserves to celebrate their birthday
Wednesday: I prefer to be vilified
Evelyn: Let's move onto the little thing you had, what happened there? It looked like a seizure, really scared my brother since he doesn't want to lose another friend.
Wednesday: I wasn't that lucky so no, it wasn't that
Enid: Can I least get some kudos for pulling one over you?
Wednesday: The subterfuge was impressive, Blue did good as well
Thing drags something over to my bed and I saw that it was a present from my parents, I open it up and saw that it was a taxidermy set with dead squirrels.
Enid: Ew! That's so gross!
Wednesday: I would've preferred live squirrels
Evelyn: Same, I would just give them to Blue and watch as he leads them the same way Optimus Prime would lead the Autobots
Wednesday: I like the Bayverse version
Evelyn: Blue does as well, he would rant to someone if they told him that Bayverse Prime sucks and will win the arguement. Anyways I got you this book
Wednesday: "The Many Ways to Break a Person's Kneecaps" By Not Evelyn Light
Evelyn: This is a very educational book because this is how I got a place in Nevermore
Wednesday: I like it
Enid: While we are still accepting presents, do you like this?
Wednesday: What is this exactly?
Enid: It's a snood, silly, I even made it in your signature colours.
Evelyn: That is a horrible name
Enid: I think it's adorable, and you know what the best part is? I have one too! We can wear them together in classes!
Wednesday: Okay, Enid, this is far too unique to wear to something like class. I suggest we wait for a more special occasion....like a funeral
Evelyn: Can it be the Mayor's?
(Blue man! Come on! Not the mad Foreshadowing!)
Enid: Eve!
Wednesday: Yes, of course
Enid: Wednesday!
Evelyn: So, you hate birthdays, right?
Wednesday: I do, what about you?
Enid: Oh I love my birthdays! Except for....when my family are involved, except for Dad.
Evelyn: I love my birthday, I spend time with my family and receive gifts. Blue loves it as you can imagine, although he gets sad with each one
Wednesday: Why is that?
Evelyn: Well he spends time with me, our mother, Adam and his mother.....but not our father
Enid: Oh.....
Evelyn: Yeah, he really misses him, even though he has no memory of him at all. Every birthday wish he makes, it is always the same....."I wish you could join us, Dad".
Wednesday: That's.....actually sad
Evelyn: Don't cry just yet, we weren't told about the truth when we were little. From our first birthday to our 6th, Blue would always wish for our father to show up because we didn't know he was dead, we just thought he was busy
Enid: S-Stop trying to make me cry, Evelyn! I don't want to be emotional right now!
Evelyn: Haha, sorry, I just thought it was something I could share. You know, since you two have mixed reactions on Birthdays
Wednesday: You really do have a tragic life, both you and Blue. But I commend your family for making things as happy as you can, despite the conflict that has happened.
Evelyn: Thank you, Wednesday. You're right about all of that, we do our best because we all know that it's best to just move on, although Blue doesn't like the idea of moving on. Anyways, enough of that, let's get to lesson already
Wednesday: Actually, I'm going to check up on Eugene
Evelyn: Oh, okay, tell him I said hi.....if he is awake of course
Enid: Same here
Wednesday: I will
I leave Nevermore and head for the hospital where I find Blue sitting on a chair next to Eugene's bed. Not surprising because he would always try to make time for our Bee Member.
Blue: Hello There
Wednesday: Came to visit him as well?
Blue: When I get the time, how did you like your birthday gift?
Wednesday: Hated it
Blue: Awww
Wednesday: But the planning was good on your part
Blue: Oh, thanks
Wednesday: Don't mention, oh right, be ready soon, I might need you later
Blue: Exploration?
Wednesday: Potentially
Blue: Aight, I'm taking my sword with me
Kinbott: You have a sword?
Blue: Oh, hello Dr Kinbott. And yes, I do have one but for personal reasons
Kinbott: That's okay. I haven't seen you two since the family session, which is something I won't forget. How are you two with them?
Blue: Everything is good
Wednesday: My mother and I spend some quality time together, we got our hands dirty
Kinbott: Gardening?
Wednesday: Grave digging
Kinbott: Hmmm
Blue: Just....casual things?
Wednesday: It is for me. I also managed to keep my father out of prison, what brings you here?
Kinbott: Eugene's moms, I'm working with them. Trauma like this leaves emotional scars on the whole family, they had to head home for a few days, so I promised I'd check in on him
Blue: Oh, that's nice of you
Kinbott: It is, Eugene didn't deserve this
Blue: He didn't, and I'll make sure it doesn't happen again
Kinbott: You....know who did this, don't you?
Blue: I do, and when I find it, it is going to die......
That.....is something I didn't expect from him, one moment he was happy but in the next, he goes off on a darker tone and I could practically feel the murderous intent inside of him.
I shouldn't be surprised because of what he is, but Blue is more positive than even Enid so it can be surprising when he says things like this and actually mean it.
Kinbott: A-Are you okay, Blue?
Blue: Hmm? Oh yeah I'm fine! Sorry about that, it happens sometimes
Kinbott: Want to talk about it for our next session?
Blue: Maybe, it's not that bad....I think
Wednesday: It's definitely bad, which I like. Okay, I think I should get going now. Blue, follow me.
Blue: Oh, okay. Bye, Dr Kinbott
Kinbott: Goodbye, Blue, Wednesday
We leave the hospital and go to the Weathervane, I sit down and start reading a book on pilgrims, Blue was sat on my left and normally I wouldn't allow this but I decided that he can. He has been helpful and I don't hate his company as much as I used to.
I was then interrupted by a cup of coffee being placed infront of me by Tyler and I could see that the foam spelled out "Happy Birthday".
Great.....
Blue: Oh wow, I didn't know that could be done
Tyler: Cool, right?
Blue: Yeah man, you got skills
Tyler: Thanks. Hey, I know you're usually a quad kind of girl, but I've been working on that all week
Wednesday: Birthday, yes. Happy, never. Is there anyone Thing didn't tell?
Blue: Joe
Wednesday: Who's Joe?
Blue: Joe-! Ow!
I smack Blue on the top of his head with my book, I knew what he was going to say and I wasn't amused at all.
Wednesday: No
Blue: N-Noted
Tyler: A-Anyways, it was me who delivered the cake. I went with the 98% dark chocolate ganache knowing your....preferred colour palette. Oh, is that Enid's gift?
Wednesday: It's perfect if you're fleeing a war torn country on foot
Blue: You know what? I can see it
Tyler: Come on. Don't you like a day that's all about you?
Wednesday: Every day is about me. This one just comes with cake and a bad song
Blue: The song is overrated, I'll admit it, I didn't even sing it during the surprise
Wednesday: I thank you for doing that
Tyler: So if I asked you out to a non birthday, song-free dinner....would that be something you're interested in?
Great, he is really trying this again? Can he not take a hint?
Wednesday: I have a tight deadline. Emphasis on dead
Tyler: Term Paper?
Wednesday: It's about how whitewashing the sins of our past will come back to kill us all
Tyler: Oh....
Blue: Hey, that sounds cool
Wednesday: I'll tell you more about it later. Now, have you seen this gate before?
Tyler: Uhh, what's that supposed to be?
Wednesday: Nevermind
Tyler: Okay, did....did I do something? I just feel like you've kind of been ghosting me. Am I wrong?
Blue: Yes you're wrong, that's Adam's job
Wednesday: Solid joke.
Blue: Thanks, I try my best
Tyler: Guess I got my answer
He walks away and Sheriff Galpin enters the building, I usher him over and he sits pposite me.
Blue: Hello There
Galpin: Hey kid, what do you want, Addams?
Wednesday: That threat burned onto the lawn at school, it's also etched on the wall inside Crackstone's Crypt
Galpin: Don't tell me you've been digging up more bodies
Wednesday: There's a connection there, I know it
Galpin: I'll put out an APB on the dead pilgrim
Wednesday: I figured since you longer have an old vendetta to obsess over, you're free to solve real crime
Galpin: Your father and I buried the hatchet, maybe you should do the same
Wednesday: I don't bury hatchets, I sharpen them. Let's go, Blue
Blue: Aight, bye Sheriff
Galpin: Take care of yourself, kid, don't let her boss you around
Wednesday: I don't boss him around
Blue: Yeah, we are partners, so don't worry
We leave the Weathervane and head back to Nevermore where Blue went to check up on Evelyn so I make my way over to Xavier's shed. I had some questions for him and I'll make him answer them, let's hope he has gotten over his little crush on me.
Because I don't have time for that.
