Chapter 2

Eight years later.

At the edge of a cliff within the Paru ranges were three 18 year olds on a breezy evening.

Yash, Dev and Myra.

All three of them were recruited to serve in the barracks.

"Myra, your parents are still very angry, aren't they? And we should leave tonight. Do you not want to talk to them?" Dev asked.

Yash remained silent. He was in a similar position. Both his and Myra's family were opposed to their love.

"It's nothing new." Myra said.

Ever since she met Yash 2 years ago, she had fallen head over heels in love with him. She did not do anything about it explicitly. But their feelings were mutual. They hinted subtly to each other every time they caught the other's eye.

Then a month ago, when she turned eighteen and her parents bought her a marriage proposal, she refused and ran to Yash's house.

Their parents were all good friends. Everyone in the village was. Naturally, they also opposed their love.

"We're going to convince them tonight!" Yash said.

Both Myra and Dev looked at him confused.

"What!"

"Myra, I know how much you love your parents. It's the same for me! They should know there is nothing they can do once we leave. If they still don't accept, I'll take it that mine are dead."

"Yash!" Dev reprimanded him. Over the years, Yash had developed a rather bad mouth, cursing without a care.

"There's nothing they can do once we leave? So you think they will accept?"

Yash stared into the direction. They might.

They sorted what to say to their parents and then headed for Myra's house first.

Dev was in a fix in front of the door. Both sets of parents had often asked him to keep an eye on his friends and knock some sense into them ever since they found out about the affair. He had always nodded and in some cases even assured them. But in reality, he supported his friends.

"If you don't want to be here, just go home." Yash said.

Dev genuinely wanted to help them despite his guilt. But he knew it was their battle.

"Then, I will see you after dinner." He left.

Yash took Myra's hand and knocked on the door.

Myra's mother opened the door.

Her face turned away after only a second. "Why did you bring him?"

"Mother, please consider this again," Yash said.

Myra's father grunted from behind. He had just arrived.

"Father, mother, I really love Myra. Please allow us to be together! We need your blessings. We plead with you!"

The man's jaw clenched. If he refused now, that would not change anything. It would not fix the relationship that had soured over the broken promise with the family of the young man he had meticulously searched for his daughter.

"Do not come to your mother or I unless you really need our help." He said to Myra and shut the door.

Myra had tears in her eyes. She thought she could have one final meal, even if it had to be in silence with her family. Now she could not.

Yash squeezed her hands.

"See, this time, their response is better. They will come around one day."

He then took her to his own house.

"Father and mother, we just spoke with Myra's parents. They did not object to your love."

The parents had some doubts. "Really?"

"Yes, although they are still not very happy." Myra said.

The parents sighed. "Fine."

"Thank you!" Yash said.

"Have dinner and be on your way." Yash's mother offered.

An hour later, they met up with Dev and other recruits from the village to travel to the barracks down south. That was where they would be positioned first.
