I walk back upstairs and into Mylo's room, hastily grabbing the book and searching for a place that seems at least a bit safe, even though it's just the words in the different languages. I do this until I find one that looks relatively safe. Fardonbn. I push the book back under the mattress, and run back to the basement. Eugene was standing there staring at a wall, I hope thinking because staring at a wall for fun isn't normal. I clear my throat calling for his attention, which he turns around and gives me full-heartedly.
"I found a dimension that sounds safe enough." I turn to look for my sword.
"But I don't want safe! I want adventure!" He says enthusiastically.
"I don't care." I say, finding my sword and grabbing its handle.
"Please Hazel!" He pleads.
"No." I snap. Pulling the key out of my pocket. Then pushing it into the air and spinning it. "Fardonbon." The key makes a sputtering sound and purple smoke fills the room.
"Why did you do that?" Eugene asks.
"I didn't mean to, I must've pronounced the name wrong or something." I start to worry. What if I just broke Mylo's key? I try to shake off the stress, only causing it to grow.
"It's probably nothing, just try it again." Eugene clarifies. I push the key into the air and try to remember what I read.
"Fardonbn." I say, the portal opens, and vacuums up all the purple smoke, making the room have a purplish tint. I step inside the portal and Eugene follows, the world, which was expected to be colored brightly, was colored with deep red, purples, and blacks. It was kinda chilling, but at the same time it gave the whole world a mysterious feel. The animals, which were supposed to be blue fluffy bunnies, had long legs and white eyes, the rest of their bodies' black. The houses, were basically nonexistent, except the tall castle like thing in the distance, which was also just a silhouette.
"This is my kind of place." Eugene says. I glance over at him, he was smirking while taking in the environment.
"Well, let's just get to that castle or whatever it is." I say.
"We could take down the monarchy." He suggests.
"I highly doubt this is a kingdom." I grip my sword tighter then take off running in the direction of the castle.
"Wait up!" Eugene starts running after me. Next thing I know, he catches up, running by my side. The castle was getting closer pretty fast. We'll get there in no time. Once we arrive at the gates, which were a blood red, we knock. Well, I knock, while Eugene protests.
"Don't knock that's too civilized! Just bust in there and let's assassinate the king!"
"No, that's rude, knocking is the way to act like we're just selling cookies or something." I continue knocking. After knocking for like a minute, the door just opens, nobody was there. Weird, but probably wired to do just that. I let myself in, Eugene following close behind. The room smells like dust. There was surprisingly enough, a map, hung on the wall, telling where every single corridor stands and how to get there. Sadly, the map was in a different language, and because I'm not bilingual, I couldn't read it. I scan the map trying to find an room that looks pretty interesting. There was a room with a book scribbled on top of it, well, on the map.
"Let's go there." Eugene points to the room, with the book on it.
"I think it'll be a library." I say, quickly scanning the map then starting off in the direction of said room. Eugene was running his hand along the wall, making sure to leave a long line of three fingers across the whole thing. We get to a door, with an label, that's in a different language, and again, I'm not bilingual, so I can't interpret it. I push open the door. It was a library, as I'd suspected. It was the only room in the whole palace that was lit.
"You're right, here we are, the library." Eugene says, his voice echoing through the long aisles of books.
"I'm gonna see if there are any books in English here, you do what you want." I set my sword down against the door, so the handle was leaning on it. I start off through an aisle. Unlike the hallway, there wasn't a smidgen of dust or grime. And I feel like my dirty boots are ruining that. I look to see if my boots left a path, which surprisingly enough it didn't. That isn't why I'm looking around, I'm looking for books in English. I skim through all the gibberish-looking book titles until I see one with English lettering sprawled along the spine. I grab it and look at the title. Biology and Physics. I thumb through it, it seems to be all in English. I put it back on the shelf, then go back to exploring, I see another title I can actually understand. Juliet and Romiana. Sounds like a parody book of Romeo and Juliet. I grab the book and look at the first page. There were the usual words after words, then on top of those words someone wrote in red pen, or blood. Don't turn around. And being me I did just that. I crane my neck backward so I could see a part of behind me. Surprise, nothing was there, so I went back to investigating the book. I turn the page and written in a similar type of ink, it read 10, then the page after that read 9, and so on, I keep flipping until I get to 1. I turn another page and It reads: Too late. I feel a cold hand wrap around my throat, and shove me up against the book case. I squeeze my eyes shut, hoping to not see what happens next.
