Fate
"Look the way I see it, let him think he won. In, what, like 8 months time, you'll be free. Don't get caught up in his bs, Blue, I'm telling you."
It was the end of the day and all the inmates privileged enough to work at the farm were eating dinner. Scott told them story of C.O. Sloane and how from that moment he stay on his neck.
"Mitch wasn't interested?"
"At all."
Avi shook his head. "And you're sure he feels the same way you do?"
Scott nodded while taking a bit of his bread. As much as he tried to deny it... Mitch definitely did something to him. The dreams he had every night would get him put in solitary.
"Then fuck Sloane." Avi noticed Kevin and Matt roll their eyes, "Excuse my language but seriously... if Mitch isn't even remotely interested in him then congratulations, you've met your future husband."
"Woah! I never said-"
"No you didn't but Preacher can't keep his mouth shut. He told us all about it."
"He met my son."
Kevin started chocking on his food while Matt hit him on the back and Avi spit his drink out and yelled. "FATE!"

"Mitch? Do you think you can work with Kace again? I'm sorry but-"
Mitch looked behind Lincoln and smiled at the little boy hiding behind his grandmother. "It's fine. I'd love too."
As Lincoln walked away, Connie walked up. "I'm sorry. He really likes you and begged me to ask."
"It's okay. Hey buddy!"
Kace looked at Mitch and broke out into a smile. "Hey Mr. Mitch! My MeMe wanted to stay today."
"She can, Buddy."
As they walked over to a quiet part of the stage, Kace grabbed his hand and Mitch fought to keep the smile off of his face. "Mr. Mitch? Do you have kids?"
"Nope. I want to adopt, one day."
"My dad said thank you for helping me."
I know. "Aw well tell him he's very welcome."

Mitch could tell Connie loved both his son and Kace with all her heart. She sat and watched him go over his lines with a big smile on her face. It had been about hour later when he noticed the tears forming in her eyes. "Kace? Will you be ok if I talk to your MeMe?"
Kace nodded and smiled. Mitch grabbed tissues out of his bag and handed them to Connie, who smiled and wiped her eyes. "I'm sorry. I just wish Scott was here to watch him."
"How long has he been away?"
"3 years. Even though he's been away for most of his life, Kace adores his father."
Mitch debated whether he should mention knowing Scott. It wouldn't hurt and it could possibly help Scott. But Connie was ahead of him. "What did you say your last name was?"
"Grassi."
"As in..."
Mitch smiled and nodded. "My son works there."
Mitch honestly couldn't help the blush that spread across his face. "I know."
She glanced at Kace and then back at Mitch. She began piecing everything together. The look of shock on Scott's face that changed into a knowing smile when she told him. The way Mitch became shy and bashful during their conversation. "You...you like him, don't you?"
"Yes." Mitch extended the 'S' for emphasis. He had came to terms with his feelings. He still didn't think he could wait close to a year to be with Scott but he'd relish in the moment while it lasted.
Connie smiled. She didn't know Mitch that well but she could tell her son felt the same way. She was worried though. Worried they'd do something stupid that could possibly keep Scott from being released. But she was glad her son found someone like Mitch to have something with. She'd never know how important he'd become to their life.
