Chapter 32

HENLEY COMES OUT

Story by Alya Césarie - Exclusively for TVi

Yesterday the showbiz world was rocked when a story came out dragging not one, not two, but three of Paris' stars into the spotlight. Along with this, the life of citizen Marinette Dupain-Cheng, 24, was also pulled into the mix after being accused of a long running affair with married Parisian, Adrien Agreste, 24. Not only has this citizen been named and 'shamed' it also came to light that the one time designer has strayed from her budding relationship with A-List celebrity, Christopher Henley.

Dupain-Cheng has been spotted out and about with Henley, co-star to Agreste, during filming of the new 'Legal Blue' instalment in Argentina. It has been said that Dupain-Cheng and Henley are extremely into each other, their hands constantly fumbling as they stole tentative kisses and secret embraces. However, today, Henley has made an exclusive statement which will rock the Hollywood scene. One of the greats is following the lead of actors like Beauty and the Beast star, Luke Evans, 43, who is out and proud (exactly as it should be.)

When approached for an exclusive interview, Henley was open to detail exactly what has been happening in his personal life.

'With the most recent allegations of my 'girlfriend' cheating on me, I have decided to come clean.

Marinette has been nothing more than a close and personal friend to myself. We met on the plane ride to Argentina and hit it off straight away. Did it help that she had embarrassing stories about her long time friend and my costar, Adrien Agreste? Of course. However, I would like to state clearly that Marinette has been wrongly accused in Vivica's [Agreste] interview.

I have been working alongside Adrien now for months and the original rumours are true, that the couple had split quite a time ago. Do I know anything about the Adrinette situation? No. However, if they chose to be together I would be in full support. They get along amazingly, one complimenting the other, how I believe soulmates should be and to be honest, I really think they're made for each other.

I, myself, have found my own soulmate in Frank Matlock, who I have been dating for around three years. We have decided now is the time to finally come out. I am proud of my relationship with Frank, and hope my fans can be as supportive as my family and friends have.'

We're with you all the way Christopher. It's always brave to come out and to release this so publicly and allow TFi the exclusive statement, and I am honoured to have been the chosen reporter.

Henley's support for Agreste and Dupain-Cheng should be enough for us to believe these long term friends and nothing more than 'just friends', though I'm sure they'll be grateful of your support Christopher.

Agreste and Dupain-Cheng are rumoured to be at the opening of Kagami Tsurugi, 26, most recent exhibit this evening at the Louvre. It's rumoured our beloved heroes will also be making an appearance as the work is based on our very own Chat Noir; a white suited cat taking the place of the usual black. Henley will also be making his first official appearance with long term partner, Frank Matlock.

TVi will be live at the event with Nadja Chamack.

'Kwami Heroes' from 'Gamer Noir Enterprises' has taken the world by storm. The game has already reached over 5 million people and was voted the most creative game of the century.

With so many variations of game play, the scenarios are never ending, with a large abundance of heroes and villains to choose from. Some lucky players will also be able to unlock special levels where the antis are increased and the game play becomes harder, with only a small percentage able to beat the complex boss and level layout.

Creator Max Kanté, 24, will go down in history for such a legendary game; a game which is fun for all ages. We hope there will soon be a sequel in the works.

"Fat Fox, come in, Fat Fox. Advancements about to be made into the underground house. Dog is following the mouse and the Gruffalo, do you copy? The mouse is taking a stroll through the deep dark wood."

"What the fuck are you talking about Félix?" Alya hissed from her office chair. As agreed Alya was staying out of the battle and had become the bonafide 'guy in the chair' (refusing 'girl in the chair' on a sexist basis.)

"Code names, we can't go into war without them."

"Félix, shut the fuck up will you, some of us have work to do here." Marinette stood off to one side, Nino beside her as they kept a firm eye on the doorway.

With her eyes firmly placed on the entrance, she could make sure all players were accounted for, and as of now, all bar one of the Miraculous holders were in play. Much to most people's discontent they had decided to trust Félix once more with holding the dog Miraculous; as sleazy, unpredictable and infuriating as he was, it was clear they were going to need him. He was a good holder and he understood how it worked, plus Adrien threatening him with a cataclysm to the balls really solidified which team Félix would be working on.

"Hey Bug, looking pretty sexy tonight, let me know if my cousin can't pleasure you right tonight, because that dress would look amazing on my floor."

"Félix!" Adrien's voice vibrated through the earpieces, all faces of the team scrunching their eyebrows and screwing up their noses at the sudden assault on their eardrums.

"Adrien, where are you?" Marinette asked, turning to look at Nino, the only way these earpieces and microphones would work was if they made it look as though they were actually talking to each other, not thin air. Each holder was placed with a second, working in pairs and buddying up. One male and one female.

As planned, Adrien was the last to arrive, bringing the most attention and hopefully a kick off to tonight's events. Damn, she hoped this worked. They'd always played the defensive card, to stand waving the offensive was as equally terrifying as exciting. But this time there was no other way. They had to take the battle with their best foot forward.

Marinette was relieved as she'd arrived that evening. She'd entered on the arm of Christopher and it seemed the interest in her was pretty low, each wanting to speak and congratulate Christopher.

But to make matters more exciting for the Parisian's, on Christopher's other arm was Frank. Frank, who Marinette was quite sure was the most beautiful male on the planet, inside and out. She couldn't wait to finally get through this; then she planned on many double dates between herself and the movie star. She had grown fond of Christopher, and she knew Adrien had a good relationship with him too.

She stuttered out a breath.

If they made it through this. Her mind began to waiver again, she needed to keep her head in the game, on the plan — on the trap.

A sudden ruckus started outside the venue and Marinette was quite sure Adrien had just arrived.

"The cat is out the bag," Félix sounded out again, his voice annoying yet needed, bringing Marinette back to her senses.

"Everyone, positions. Stage one is a go."

As Alya's words barked orders in her ear, Marinette nodded to Nino, the two headed towards the bar where Luka and Zoé were situated. The others seamlessly hid amongst the crowds as Félix headed towards the doorway, Kagami walking alongside him. Some say they would be a great team, Marinette said she would be the only one to keep him in order.

"They're interviewing him," Alya said, "it's live on TVi."

"And has Nadja pulled through?" Marinette questioned, looking at the group around her. The silence suddenly taking over the airways allowed her to hear for the first time how hard her heart was beating. Forget the soft soothing music selected for the event, her heart was one step away from the background bass of 'Smell's Like Teen Spirit'.

Even with year after year of battling villains and taking on akumas, nothing had prepared her for this. For this fight they were about to face. It was the first time they seemed to have a deeper understanding of the situation and a rather flawless plan and she prayed it worked, there was too much riding on it.

"Vivica's approaching now."

Adrien's voice as sweet as it was had just spat at her with venom . She felt every muscle in her body tense, Luka's hand reaching out to hers as Nino placed a reassuring one on her shoulder; Zoé continued to converse in Marinette's absence.

"Adrien," Zoé whispered, "remember, look for any jewellery where you think her amok might be. Something she wears often."

"It's going to be okay, Melody," Luka's whispered, sweet words did nothing for the feeling gripping her stomach. Knowing now exactly what Vivica could do had her high on alert and ready to attack. If she dared to touch a single hair on Adrien's golden head she would kick the shit out of her—untransformed.

"Yeah." Was all she could reply. She wasn't in the mood for any of Luka's words of wisdom, wanting nothing more than to see her boyfriend walk through the doorway, unharmed.

"Marinette? Fancy seeing you here."

She spun around on the spot to come face to face with Peyton and...

"Dominic?" The name left her mouth in a shocked sigh. No way, no, no way!

Shit! Shit! Shit!

A multitude of gasps sounded in her ear, the loudest and most impactful being Adrien's. She knew there and then he was going to try and get to her, to break away from the plan and go into full protective cat mode. This plan could not go wrong, everything had to follow the steps of the trap.

Marinette could hear Alya's faint voice in her ear as she stood trying to regain the upper foot as she looked between her ex boss and her ex fiancé.

'Adrien,' Alya was warning, 'do not blow this. Get your head in the game man.'

Marinette seemed to be working double time on keeping her legs steady as all they wanted to do was see how fast they could wobble. They hadn't even considered this. This wasn't even close to being one of their options. Peyton knew. Peyton knew almost everything about her and Adrien; Argentina's phone conversation came into her mind thick and heavy as Marinette remembered just how much her boss seemed to know. She knew about her and Adrien, she knew about the relationship, she knew about the way they were pretty much together already—without his divorce.

"It's good to see you both," Marinette managed to pull herself together. She could freak out later but right now Adrien's life, and by effect, her life, depended on this plan working and her staying focused.

"I didn't know you two knew each other." Marinette stepped forward, offering a la bise to both the newcomers.

"Dominic here is my fiancé," Peyton flashed a rather impressive diamond in the direction of Marinette, but her eyes were fully positioned on Dominic. He looked different. Not like the usual arrogant arse she remembered him as, his demeanour was...different.

"C-congratulations." Marinette finally faced Peyton, a wide smile on her face. She stepped forward and wrapped Peyton in a hug, her head turning to once again look at Dominic.

"Luka, good to see you too."

Marinette watched as Dominic held out a hand to shake Luka's, the latter tentatively meeting in the middle.

As Marinette moved back away, keeping her awareness of what was happening around her, suddenly noticing a movement to the left of her.

Player three had entered the game.

"Dominic, how wonderful! I need your assistance with something."

"Go darling," Peyton said, turning to her fiancé, "go, I'll be here with Marinette."

She gave her partner a kiss and Marinette watched as Frankie LeMec dragged Dominic away from their group. She hadn't even made a point of looking at the rest of them. Almost as though she had a mission to complete and they weren't part of it; screaming hints of her being controlled.

"So, Peyton, how did you two meet?"

"Oh, Marinette! The story is so romantic, you won't believe it."

Marinette almost guffawed. There wasn't a lot she didn't believe these days.

"About three years ago, I went to this adult only magician in London. I was there on a trip with some friends, and this man told me he could create my dream man."

Once more, Marinette's veins ran ice cold. Create the man of her dreams?

'Adrien you need to calm down, you're blowing the plan.'

The voice in her ear was pushed to the back of her mind as she considered what the hell Peyton might be talking about. Could she have been the one to create Dominic? Was he just a helpless player in this complex game?

The others seemed to be taking on Alya's orders as they began to move around the venue, Marinette holding back with Peyton.

"Of course, I didn't believe it. After all, magic's all illusion and sleight of hand, so I told him and he made a deal with me. I had to give him a family heirloom, like a piece of jewellery and he'd give me the powers to create the man of my dreams. All I would need to do was find my piece of jewellery again and he would reappear."

Marinette's mind was about to short circuit, just as the electricity in the Louvre did.

The emergency lighting appeared as an announcement blasted out of the sound system, demanding that everyone exited the premises as quickly as they could.

Marinette's eyes darted around the venue looking for anything out of place before noticing a purple fog began to take over the room, the crowds scrambling and screaming to get out of the way. Whilst carnage surrounded them, Marinette grabbed ahold of Peyton's hand and pulled her out into a corridor, slamming the door closed hard behind her and standing guard. If needs be, she'd transform here, right in front of Peyton, because right now this was the most important information they had come across.

"What piece of jewellery? Peyton, please you need to tell me everything."

"Marinette, sweetheart, I think we need to get out of here." Peyton's voice was trembling with fear and Marinette couldn't deny that that was the right reaction. Without warning, the screaming on the other side of the door grew nearer and more frantic.

"Peyton, my class was the Akuma class, believe me, we'll be okay for a while, I know what I'm doing. I just, please, I need to know about Dominic."

"I know he was your ex–"

"That is in no way an issue here! What is an issue is what you mean by created him."

"You're going to think I'm crazy." Peyton bit down on her lower lip, her eyes trailing around before they looked between Marinette and the door; the sounds of screams echoing through, both piercing and terrifying.

Looking at the door one more time, Peyton began to speak, her words flowing out fast in a means to escape. "I was asked to put on a sleep mask, apparently it would help channel my inner thoughts and dreams, and a brooch was placed on me..."

'I'm free and transformed, Chat Noir going offline, good luck everyone and M'Lady, I love you.'

As planned once transformed, the males were to drop their earpiece. The plan involved the men being caught, but if they were caught with the ear pieces, their upper hand would be gone in a matter of seconds, and in Chat's case he had to be caught.

Her heart tore to shreds as she stood listening to Peyton. The last chance to tell him she loved him gone, instead work and the Miraculous getting in the way once more.

"I was told to spread my feathers and that that would open the whole vortex to create my dream man; then they gave me a feather. I wished for Dominic. Right from his dark eyes to his annoying laugh. When I had closed the vortex and my eyes had been uncovered, I was told when the time was right I would find my ring; once I did I would have to make a wish for Dominic to come and find me. Which I did, just before hiring you. It was in the window of an antiques store, not fair for the office. It was like an omen or something. I wished for him back and he appeared."

Her soft sigh was a punch in the gut for Marinette, her past becoming a bigger and bigger lie by the second. All those things Dominic did, when he said he had no choice...he wasn't lying. The guy had been made to do unquestionable things to her.

"Where's the ring now?" Marinette asked, her own thoughts and feelings would have to wait, right now all that mattered was figuring out this mess and hopefully giving one amok back to its rightful owner.

"I-I don't know, Marinette, what is this all about?"

'Pegasus, transformed and offline.'

Marinette's heart was racing as she stood talking to Peyton, one by one the heroes were transforming and the males going offline. Shit! She needed to get out there and fast.

"Peyton, where the fuck is his amok?"

"A-a-amok? But doesn't that mean?" Peyton began stumbling over her words, Marinette kicking herself for letting out such a vital piece of information. She was struggling to think straight, all she could see was Adrien out there once more putting himself on the line. Purposefully using himself as the block.

"He is your perfect match because you made him unwillingly. Dominic gave you my number didn't he? That's how you got in touch with me the first time?"

"H-h-he said that you were wanting to be a honey, that's why you broke up with him."

Marinette watched Peyton's face pale to a greyish colour, the change in skin tone an obvious sign of what she was feeling, as was Marinette.

"You don't have the ring, do you?"

Peyton shook her head. "Someone came to the office around the time you were hired by Vivica and took it–" as if the penny had finally dropped, Peyton looked to Marinette with deep sorrow and regret. "Oh my God."

Marinette reached up, placing a hand to her ear and listening to what the others were saying. Alya was recapping who was still there, conversing with the girls and the remaining couple of guys.

"Dominic's amok is in an old antique ring," Marinette looked at Peyton as she relayed the information. Peyton messed around on her phone before holding up a picture.. "Yellow gold with two diamonds and a Ruby. Bring it to me if you find it.

Peyton closed her phone down and positioned it back into her clutch bag. "W-w-what does that mean for Dominic? I n-n-need to speak to Ladybug. He's not a villain. He's not!" Her voice was filled with panic, and Marinette couldn't help feel guilty for what she was about to do.

"You better go." she said, heading to the doorway.

"What about you?"

Talking a deep breath and letting it out, Marinette considered her options. "Spots on." A blast of pink light took over the immediate vicinity, Ladybug taking the position of what was once Marinette.

"M-M-Marinette? You're...oh my word!" Her ex boss covered her mouth as she stood staring at Ladybug, her eyes wide with shock and awe.

"Yes, and we need to get you out of here."

She grabbed her bosses hand and pulled her back through the door, the aim of getting her to the closest exit and out of the building.

'Viperion down, I repeat, Viperion down.'

Alya's voice sounded through her ears and her body almost gave way. One down. Shit!

"Fuck!" Ladybug said, unhooking her yoyo and preparing for what might be about to come.

Finally spotting the flashing green sign through the fog, Ladybug sent her yo-yo out to hit against the solid wood and send the door flying open. She encouraged Peyton forward, the woman stopping and grabbing onto Ladybug's arm.

"Please, don't hurt him." The voice was a mere whimper trying to express the feelings building up inside her, Ladybug could tell easily; she felt that way about Adrien.

"I can't make any promises, unless we get the ring, so if you know anything you need to tell me now."

Peyton looked torn between a rock and a hard place and Ladybug could see the woman's eye flitting between what she should and shouldn't be telling her. She began to bounce from one foot to the other, an impatient tick which had appeared in the past few years. She was all about business and she hadn't got the time for doubt or consciousness; get in, do the job, get out! It was The Honey Trap way.

'Carpikid and Rooster Bold down.'

"Shit! Peyton, I can't stand around all day chatting, I need you to either tell me or get the fuck out. I have work to do." Ladybug turned on the balls of her feet ready to set off in the opposite direction only to be stopped by a hand on the shoulder.

"A woman came in to see Melissa, a couple days ago, the day of the akuma. I - she -"

"Peyton!" All calmness had gone out the window and Ladybug was about to explode. The fog around her hand began to swirl faster, the thickness increasing as it moved forward.

"She-she- It was Gabriel Agreste's assistant, the one with the red streak."

Nathalie. Nathalie Sancoeur had chosen her side and she was going to regret it. "You need to go."

Ladybug pushed Peyton out the door, the woman still trying to talk but Ladybug had heard enough. Her team was going down, and her boyfriend's almost mother was one of the reasons, which could only mean Gabriel was close too. Was this Lila's plan or his?

"LB?" Carapace came skidding around the corner, his shell almost colliding with her as he grabbed her arm and pulled her away. "We need to move now."

They began running in the direction of the thickest fog, heading straight into the line of fire and hopefully where the others were waiting and assessing what was happening. As planned the guys were being taken one by one, but a lot quicker than Ladybug had planned for; Chat Noir saving his hypnotism for last — when Ladybug was near to attack.

Continuing on the way, Carapace prepared his shelter in case he needed to protect Ladybug, keeping her safety a priority.

Dodging and ducking under those still screaming and darting for the exit, a view of Äte came into their line of sight. But she wasn't alone.

'Ladybug! Chat Noir is down! I repeat, Chat Noir is down.'

"Trust him." Carapace turned to her, his look one of determination.

Trust him. She always would.

As her eyes met the villainess she could help the hitch of breath in her throat, especially when she started to sing.

Next to her, Carapace froze. His whole body turned stock still as the sirens song took over and took its hold on another member of the team. But right at that moment only one thing mattered — or should she say one person.

Ladybug couldn't take her eyes off her partner. She knew it was going to happen and she knew exactly what she needed to do; being here face to face with what seemed like a white demon from her past. Chat Blanc once again pushed his way into her mind, so long after that timeline was done and dusted. She closed her eyes, only opening them when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She needed to rid the nightmares and focus on reality.

"LB, we need to get out of here, stat!"

Shaking out of her thoughts, Ladybug turned to come face to face with Ryuko, the dragon hero's reassuring action to pull Ladybug out of the moment and back into the game. Before she could move too far away, Carapace launched himself towards her, his aim clearly intended for Ladybug, but blocked swiftly by Ryuko.

"Run!" Ryuko said, her sword clanging in a defensive battle against Carapaces shield. "Move!" She shouted out a second time, her hip colliding sharply with Ladybug's, pushing her in the opposite direction.

Turning promptly, Ladybug began to run in the opposite direction. Her feet carried her away at a quick and pronounced speed, but it didn't take long for the pounding of the boots of a foe on all fours to interrupt her steady rhythm.

A quick glance over her shoulder confirmed everything she thought. Chat Noir was gaining on her and quickly.

He was faster than her, her footwork not quite as nimble as that of her partner, the obvious fencing working being a lot more handy for a hero than the clumsy movements of a baker's daughter.

Ladybug continued to move out of the hall, Äte's voice encouraging her partner to advance and gain the upper hand, the siren song still being sung in the background; men stopped and stared as she ran past on her search for safety.

Sliding under a table, she unhooked her yo-yo and threw it up just as she moved steadily onto her feet again. The yo-yo cord tightened on the table, pulling it over and creating a blockade.

"Cataclysm!"

The call of her partner's power shook her to the core. He'd fitted through, once again the pounding picking up speed behind her, the pounding slow compared to the manic beating in her heart.

She looked back over her shoulder to see him coming but once again his speed was too much for her. He was fast before but at the moment he was damn right supernova. She turned her head once more, continuing her run and removing the yo-yo from her back pocket. If she could just make the balcony she could break away. Swing into the night and hopefully put some welcomed distance between them. Just a few more...

Before she could push through the doors he was on top of her, the two fumbling and rolling across the ground.

She froze, looking up into his piercing green eyes, panic coiling tightly around her stomach. This was it, the end. After everything they'd been through this was going to be how it ended, and damn was it going to be anticlimactic.

"You don't need to do this," her voice was a mere whisper. The hardness of his jaw was terrifying as she looked for any sign of her Chaton there, anything she could grasp too and try to pull him back. Instead, he lifted his arm into the air.

"Cataclysm." His voice was harsh and unwelcoming, her heartbreaking as tears spilled and she watched as the one she loved was manipulated into doing and being something he wasn't. He was bitter and cold and it stabbed at her more, he was never going to forgive himself.

"I love you," her words were a whisper in the cool night breeze, a voice lost in the midnight breeze and screams of other party goers. It was too late. He fisted his hand and began to move it towards her, her eyes closing and preparing for contact. She always knew he was stronger than her. He was physically fit which only increased his hero strength.

Her mind flashed over the past month and their time together, and even though it was short, it was the best time of her life. He was the best thing to happen to her, and she just hated he was the one who'd have to live knowing he'd killed her. That he'd killed his Lady.

Before she knew it, the impact happened and everything went black.
