The Pain of a teenager with Paralysis
"Delaney!"
I lift my head and see Todoroki and Midoiya in the doorway, I was currently wrapping my wrists getting ready for my fight with a man named Hitoshi Shinso.
"Hey." I stand from my seat walking over to the two men "What are you two doing here?"
"We wanted to wish you good luck!" Midoriya smiled brightly, well Todoroki nodded in agreement.
"Oh, well thank you." I purse my lips with a nod. "But you two should be getting ready for your own fight."
"Well, honestly, we wanted to warn you." Midoriya nodded, twitching nervously, "Your opponent, Shinso, he's from class 1B."
"I figured." I nodded before raising my eyebrow "Are you here to warn me about his quirk?"
"We don't know his quirk." Todoroki shook his head. "But he seems really scary!" Midoriya interrupted.
I chuckle softly before setting my hands on both boys shoulders, "Thanks boys, but I'm not some weak girl. Go get ready for your own opponents." I wink with a smile.
Midoriya and Todorki weren't wrong. Hitoshi Shinso does look scary.
As I stare across from the man in the arena I can't pick up exactly what his quirk is. I suppose it'll show in time, but I don't know if I exactly have time.
No, I didn't have time to find out his quirk.
I only had time to win.
Right as the horns blared through the stadium my hand rose, paralysising the man, Shinso.
I watched the man twitch, trying to break free of my restraint.
"I always wanted to be a hero!" The man shouted, making me falter, I didn't let him go, but I wasn't expecting him to say something like that.
"But I was never fit with a quirk like mine! But someone as blessed as you wouldn't understand, would you?" He screamed, I wondered why exactly he was trying so hard for me to respond. I stepped closer, getting to the middle of the "stage" my hand still reaching out, holding him still.
Why haven't they called for the win, yet? He was clearly unable to move.
"I don't care about you're fucking-" But as the words left my mouth my mind went into a haze.
My hand dropped releasing my oppoint. What the hell? I tried to lift my hand back up only for it to not move.
"Your lucky to be so blessed, Delaney Darnell." He smirked "Now walk out of bounds, like a good little girl." He taunted.
My feet began to move, and just like his command I passed him, I couldn't move– or Couldn't move according to my own control. Couldn't do anything but act as a puppet. A puppet for this man– brainwash.
Had I really given him such an easy win?
After all my work I game into him so easily.
I was walking closer, and closer to the boundary. C'mon Lain, get ahold of yourself. I pleaded.
You're nothing like them, Haru.
You're special,
Haru
Haru
Haru.
My hand flexed right as my foot lifted just an inch from crossing the line. Quickly I turned my body facing away from the boundary, letting out a gasp. Sweat coated my body, my hair pressing against my forehead from the sweat.
"How?! How did you do that?" Shinso screamed running towards me, I managed to turn my body away from the boundary before his fist collated with my jaw, "Get out of the ring, you lucky brat!" He screamed toward me. I paralyzed him once more before my foot collided with his chest, kicking him out of bounds.
"And with that viscous comeback, we have our fist victor of the finals! 1A's Darnell Delaney!" Present Mike screamed through the mic.
Cheering could be heard throughout the stadium, and as I stared down at the man "Need a hand, little boy?" I asked reaching my hand out with cold eyes, I wasn't about to let what he said earlier slide without some type of retort.
The man slapped my hand away with a glare. I t'skd before leaning down. "You have a crowd full of heroes and future mentors, nows is not the time to be a sore loser." I glared at him before pulling back with a smile. I wasn't a kiss-ass to teachers but to future connections? Hell, I'd get on my knees for an opportunity like that.
The boy seemed to understand my suggestion, because he reached out grabbing ahold of my hand, and I helped him up.
I let go of his hand swiftly before walking out of the arena rubbing the dull ache from my wrists. Today was going to be long one. This is just one step closer to finding you.
"You should have seen it, Delaney! Bakugou totally crushed Uraraka. Literally."
"Mhm." I hum with a nod as I re-wrap my wrists. Listening to Sero list on the fight between Bakugou and Uraraka. Of course I wasn't surprised Bakugou won, I was surprised that Uraraka lasted so long.
"Are you scared?" Sero tilted his head, sitting down on a chair next to me without me offering. Sero and I became closer around a week ago, after I helped him with a quiz.
"That I'm going to loose? No." I look over to the boy. "Damn. You're really that confident in yourself?" Sero smirked.
"I didn't say that." I shake my head. "Todorki is impressive, what I meant is that I'm not scared to loose if that does happen. But I also will be giving my all, we do have a crowd to please." I glance down at the confused boy.
"You really are one confusing girl, Delaney." Sero huffed out, leaning back.
For someone who lost their fight Sero seemed in good sprite.
"I've got to get going." I nod glancing at the clock. "Alright, I'll be watching Del!" He smiled up at me.
I've kept my one-freind rule still. Sero and Todoroki are just my classmates, who I am slightly closer to.
Walking out to the stadium I hear the crowd cheer. I look across and see Todoroki from across, walking into the designated area I glance around the crowd, and up to the booth where some of my classmates were. Midoriya was missing as he was getting ready for his fight after mine. But Sero shot me a smile and waved. Next to Sero, I made eye-contact with Bakugou.
I knew exactly his game. He was watching his possible future opponents, watching their behavior and habits. Smart ass.
I hear the count-down from the speakers, staring ahead at Todoroki, I wouldn't waste a moment this time, I was facing Enji Todoroki's kid after all.
"Ready- Set- GO!" Present mic screamed, the crowd eagerly watching for who will make the first move.
Right as I raised my hand, Todoroki shot his ice my way, sticking my feet to the ground. Fuck. He's fast.
I manage to break the ice after just a few seconds, when I look back I see a large ice barrier blocking my view of Todoroki, Fuck you ice princess.
All I need to do is get a clear view of Shoto and this will be over. I just need to focus.
Sucking in a breath I watch as Todoroki shoots ice my way, quickly I manage to paralysis the ice before moving out of the way, freezing whatever was behind me.
This quickly turned into a back-and-forth. Todorki shooting ice at me, me paralysising the ice and moving out of the way. I knew what Todoroki's plan was, he didn't know how long I could repeatedly keep using my quirk before getting a backlash.
But It seems he started feeling backlash of his own quirk before I did– or he began to loose his patience. Because ice filled the floor in about a second, my feet began slipping on the ice. I had to think quick.
I reached down, pointing my right palm down to my shoes before paraylising them to the ice, keeping me in place. I couldn't last like this for long, not for how hard my hands were shaking.
"Todoroki! Come out here and fight like a man you're father would be proud of!" I scream, the whole stadium going silent. Okay, not my proudest moment. But I was running out of options.
Who am I to be playing on someone's obvious daddy issues?
"What's your aim Darnell?!" Todoroki came out, fuming, and shooting unforgiving ice my way. I didnt have a chance to paralysis him as I moved both my hands up, focusing on moving out of the way of his shots and stopping the ice.
My movements were sloppy, as my feet slid against the ice. Todoroki was relentless.
The only thing that made him freeze in his tracks was a loud crack filling the air. Sucking in a breath I stared at my right hand, facing the opposit direction. Fuck. But I didn't even have a momment to think before a ball of ice rockets it's way to my forehead, making me fly back. Only inches from the boundary.
I weakly sit up slowly, my ears ringing as blood drips down my forhead and down my nose.
"DARNELL IS RELENTLESS!" Mic announces through the speakers.
I slowly stand to my feet, my movements sloppy. My broken hand twitching by my side. Todoroki stood in shock before his own shaky hand lifted. Half the side of his body covered in ice.
As the ice shoots my way I stop it with my good hand before moving to the side. Reaching my right hand I lift my left hand up before cracking it back in place with only a flinch. "You're not going to win that easily Todoroki!" I glare dodging his next set of ice attacks.
The ice was coming back a lot slower, and it was starting to piss me off. This wasn't even Todoroki's full potential, and I was going to loose.
"Why don't you ever use your fire side Todoroki?" I questioned as me and Todoroki walked to school. His relaxed look, turned angry– or sad. I couldn't tell.
"I don't need him."
At the time I didn't understand. But from a distance I heard Endevors call of his son's name, I understood. Shoto Todoroki, truly, has daddy issues.
"You're not him Shoto!" I yell out, freezing another ice shot only for my right hand to snap, only barely missing the ice. I quickly snap my hand back in place before standing in shock as Shoto's side begins to burst into flames, thawing his other side. fire was one thing I could not Paralysis.
I watched his hand reach up, squeezing my eyes shut I readied myself for the burst of flames.
Before hearing the crowd erupt in applause.
"DARNELL DELANEY IS OUR VICTOR!" Mic announced.
My eyes snap open before stepping back, realizing my broken left hand was outstretched facing Shoto, keeping him in place. I quickly release him, both my hands shaking in pain. I took a step forward to Shoto only for him to turn, and walk away.
