Chapter 5

I had to get ready for class but i didn't want to. I was so worried i'd slip up and tell somebody to do something. I get it, most people would think that being able to control people would be pretty cool. I mean i could literally run Mystic Cove! The only problem with that: I didn't want to run Mystic Cove. I didn't want to control people. I mean this was like the most useless talent ever. Maybe i could find somebody who's talent is to switch talents. Then i could get rid of this. But i do realize how big this is. And it could easily fall into the wrong hands. And the sad part is a small part of me is selfish and doesn't care. But then i ask myself what would one even do with this talent?

I flew out the door. But flying always led to something in the sky. Witches, other fairies vampire bats and the occasional bird.  Why did the birds get amused with other flying things? This goose was coming straight towards me and i swear to you it was smiling. I was in no mood for a smiling goose today. And i was a touch testy. "Drop dead you stupid bird!"I said And it did. "Oh no! I just killed a bird..." I threw my hands up, will this never end!? Now i control animals too!? No, no i don't. That bird, it was just his time to go. He had a heart attack...too much...fatty foods?

I pulled my phone from my pocket.. I knew i wasn't supposed to fly and text but i was freaking out. "I think i just killed a goose!" I sent to Ethan. "A goose!? Are you sure??" He asked. "Yep that goose is cooked, so to speak." "Oh no, how did you do that?" He asked. "Well i was flying and i told him to drop dead...and he did. Look this talent is much stronger than i thought it would be. And i don't know that i want it anymore." I said.  "Look i bet everyone feels that way at some point. But you can't exactly 'give' it back. And I can never be lied too! I ask if you like my shirt, if you hated it and said yes i'd know!!" He said.

"That is a good thing, i don't like being lied to. Let's trade!" I said. "Well i guess i've gotten used to always knowing the truth but i didn't always like it. As a kid it was rough. Can you imagine being a kid and controlling people?" He sent back. "I guess you are right, but i think you guys had time to adjust. I am being thrown into this." I said. "Right, we were thrown into this as a child. You are an adult you are more mature." He said. Maybe he was right. But how did i not control people?

"Look, i don't want to tell people what to do." I said. "Well you didn't do it before." He said. "No, not that i knew off." I said. "Right, but you can learn to control this." He said. "Yea i guess so. How do you control yours?" I asked. "I don't. I just have to live with it. And for a while i hated it so bad i all out avoided people. Now i just want to say you can control me anytime ;) So don't leave me k?" I laughed hard. "You're stupid, stop it :)" "See even over text i know you're lying." I turned red. "I have to get to class, meet me after for coffee?" I asked. "Sure thing. Bye."

I landed at the school close to my class. We were getting ready for our finals and i was about sick of tests but a new semester started soon and i'd be graduating so i guess i couldn't complain to much. Living in Mystic Cove was odd in some ways. We took all these classes to figure out who we were and were even encouraged to get a job in our field of talent. If that's the case i'm meant to be Mayor of Mystic cove. Only problem was i didn't want to be. But i could literally tell everybody to vote for me. That was a scary thought right there.

I made it to Dr Littenbergs class five minutes early. He was a vampire. He was pale and tall. But he had dark hair gelled back. We were taught from an early age that vampires do drink blood. But not ours. A great man named Dr Winkleton, invented a blood substitute. And it turns out it's great. It allows vampires to be out in the day time so they can sleep at night like everybody else. And i have to admit Dr Littenberg is kind of a babe. "Class please take your seats!!" He called out.

"So finals are coming up, i thought instead of giving you a test, we'd write a short paper. Ten pages. Just sum up one thing you learned in here. Or maybe even teach me something new. I just want to see that you are learning or that you have learned." He said. "So coming around is a piece of paper. Write down a time this week that we can meet to discuss your topics." I raised my hand. "Yes Sophia?" "I have a big final coming up and i don't feel prepared i have an idea for my topic would it be okay if i stayed a few minutes late today?" I asked.

"Of course." Class dismissed and i was sitting in my seat. He took the desk across from me. "What do you got?" He asked. "Well i was thinking i could write on half breads." I said waiting to see his reaction. "Oh..." He said surprised. "I don't know if that's...well i mean. Do you think they are real?" He asked his gaze boring into mine. "Well i have a friend who recently found out she might be one." I said. "Oh isn't she sure?" He asked. So i told him about the leprechaun who could see people's breads based on color. "That is interesting. I had heard of that being a talent." "So you mean more than one person can have the same talent as someone else?" I asked.

"Yes i suppose that is possible." He said. " I mean how many talents could there be anyways?" "So let's say somebody had a talent like i don't know controlling people. You think theres more than one of that talent?" He laughed. "I don't think that's a real talent, and for good reason." He said. "Right, i guess i'm glad i don't have a talent." I only told Ethan and Glynn i wasn't telling anybody else. Ya know why? There first question is going to be sweet what is it? On the first day of class we were encouraged to tell our talent's Everybody was confused when i told them i didn't have a talent. To which Rodney the Elf next to me said "maybe you just haven't found it yet." And to which i replied oh go bake a cookie. I wasn't having a good day that day.

But now that i think about it, he probably did go back a cookie. Oops. "Well i know how much you want one, and i'm sorry. I can change peoples moods. I found it useful as a child but it usually got me in more trouble." He chuckled. "That's funny. I said smiling. "So half breads. Maybe you could go into the history of them and find out where they first originated. Then maybe talk about the talents they had." He said. "Hmm, you know what i like that. I'll do it." "And if your friend is feeling up to it maybe you could interview her for part of it?" He suggested. "Sure but i might have to change her name, she's shy." I said. "Perfect. Anything else?" He asked. "I think that about covers it. Thank you sir." "Your'e welcome Sophia have a good day." "You too."

My parents knew i was a half bread, one of my professors, Ethan and Glynn and maybe a rouge pizza leprechaun. But that part i wasn't scared of people knowing. But that also meant i didn't want to be under a microscope either. If you asked me how many half breeds i knew, i'd say one. Me. I flew over to the coffee shop. I'd have to leave here and head to the library i had some research to do.

"Ethan." I called out. He was in front of me about to walk in. He turned around his face lighting up. "Hey you!" He said embracing me. "How are you feeling?" He asked. "I killed a goose." I said. "I heard goose is tasty you should of..." "NO! That poor goose!" I said. "Right, poor poor goose." He said shaking his head. I walked up to the line. "Other than that i'm a smidge stressed. I have to write a ten page paper." I said. "Oh? What on?" He asked. "Anything we want so i choose half breads. You know cause most people think they are just a myth and it'd be nice to get some research on me." I said. "I think that's great." He said.

"I thought so and Dr Littenberg thought it was a good idea too. But he did tell me my "you know" wasn't a real thing." "How would he know?" He asked. I shrugged. "He mentioned that people could have the same talent as somebody else." He pondered this for a moment. "You know i suppose that's true." At the font of the line finally, we ordered. I got a salted caramel frap and he got a vanilla latte. We took a seat in the emerald green plushy chairs.

"I mean how many talents could there really be?" He asked. "A lot, i bet you could say a talent and somebody has it." "That's a fun game! Like what?" I asked. "Well that man there the tall one. His talent is he can read your mind. And that lady there, she can run super super fast. That little gnome looking guy in the corner can turn into any animal. Oh and that squirrely looking girl? She can change her age baby to elder. She just looks older you know not actually is old cause then she might you know die. Just like that goose." I hit his arm. "You're so mean!" I said. "you love it." He said winking.

I sighed. "I have to get to the library and start researching this paper. It's gonna take me a while." "Okay, good luck if you need anything let me know." He said. "I will, thanks. Have a good day." I said. "You too." "Hey real quick. Does these pants make my butt look good?" He asked. "I hadn't noticed."I said. "Liar." "I hate you." I said. "Still lying." He said a hint of humor in his voice. "I'm going now bye ya jerk." He pulled my arm as i walked away pulling me into a kiss. He pulled back gently. "There's nobody else i would want to pretend argue with than you." He said. "Right back at ya." "Go and i'll see you at home later." He said. I stepped back. "Okay, bye." I waved at him and left the coffee shop.

I wasn't sure about chapter five but please let me know what you think. I'm trying to get to the good stuff but i feel like it needs a build. :)
