Chapter Five

The next morning I awoke in my room with the memory's of yesterday still fresh in my mind:
After I had kissed Peter I left his room to go and explore the house more. I didn't find much difference in a regular house. There were other rooms for more guests, and I found a room filled with books. I took one out and began reading it. Before I knew it Peter told me it was time for dinner. We went to go eat and had a dinner of chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. We ate in a relaxed silence, and once we finished I helped Peter with the dishes and then went to go take a shower before bed. Peter came into my room to tell me goodnight, and he kissed me before he left.

I got up, got dressed, and then went to see if Peter was awake but he wasn't in his room. I looked around the house but he wasn't there either, but in the kitchen, I found a note pinned to the freezer that said:

I've gone out on a quick errand and I'll be back by dinner time. There is a card in a little black bag by the sink. It should last you till I get back. Love you.

I looked over by the sink and sure enough, there was the black bag. I opened it and looked in, and there was the card. I put the bag and the note in my pocket and went to go explore the town and spend some of the money on the card.

I walked around the town until I found a shopping area.

The shopping area had lots of different stores and I went to the first one there. It was a clothes store.

I walked in and a store clerk greeted me.

"Hello and welcome ma'am. Would you like to help with your shopping?"

"Oh, okay." I replayed a bit uncertain.

The store clerk leads me to the clothes area and there were lots of different styles there.

The clerk helped me pick out different outfits, and soon I went to go pay for them.

"Would you like me to send these to your house?"

"Oh I'm staying with a friend and I don't know his address."

"Oh, well is that his card?"

"Yes, it is."

"Well, the address is on the card so once you pay I can have them sent to your house."

"Oh okay then."

I handed the clerk the card and she scanned it before handing it back to me.

"Okay, the items will be sent to your house. Have a great rest of your day ma'am."

"Thank you same to you," I stated as I left.

It was already lunchtime so I went to a small café to have lunch.

"What can I get you today ma'am?" The waiter asked.

"Uh... I'll take a ham sandwich with lemonade please."

"Good choice ma'am. Okay go ahead and have a seat and I'll be right back with your food."

"Okay, thank you."

I went and sat down at an unoccupied seat and waited. It didn't take long for the waiter to bring my food, and I was soon eating the delicious sandwich.

Once I finished I went up to the counter to pay with the car and then left.

I then went to a little park that I had seen the day before; not long after a man approached me. The man was about one inch taller than m and had short hair that framed his young-looking face nicely, he was also well built and it made me wonder how old he was.

"Hi, I don't think I've seen you around here before," The man said.

"Uh... Yeah, I'm just visiting," I replied.

"Well can I walk with you?" The man asked.

"Um okay."

"Why don't you tell me a little about yourself?"

"I don't know, I'm not interesting."

"Try me!"

I took a deep breath as I thought about how much I should tell this stranger.

"Well where I come from I worked at a café and I didn't have any blood relatives. Then one day a man, his name is Peter, came into my café and he took me here. I haven't around much but he did take me to a store to get clothes and then a burger joint. Which is where I met Cal. She wasn't the nicest person to me and we aren't on the best of terms right now, but right now I'm staying with Peter."

"Ah, yes. I know Peter and Cal. Don't let her get to you too much. It's not just Peter she does that too. She likes to cause trouble with any happy couple she sets her eyes on." The man smiled. "And if you're worried about her feelings for Peter, you should know that she has been chasing that boy since she first saw him. He's not interested. Not in the least."

"Oh well, I'm sure she won't mess with him anymore. I sure she saw how serious I am after I knocked her down on the floor."

"Well, good on you for standing up for yourself. I'm surprised Peter didn't do something before it escalated. I know I would have. Do you know much about him? About his past, I mean."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

The man looked around to make sure no one was listening and then said, "Peter was actually a lagooner, but the guardian folk managed to capture him when they were in there last war. They brought him back here and started doing the test. They say that if they put guardian blood in him that is would take out all the lagoon from him. Since the guardian blood overrides all other blood, he became a full guardian. They took away his memory and gave him false ones so he wouldn't turn on them. Once they were sure that the deed was done they set him loose, and gave him a mission. They gave him you!"

Suddenly furious at what the man had told me I stated, "Your lying! That's impossible!

"I would tell you to ask him but he would think you were crazy, and if he started to remember he might hurt you." The man stated.

"Your wrong! Get away from me!" I yelled as I took a step back.

"Calm down." The man pleaded to look around worried that someone would hear.

I noticed a few people glance our way, so I took a deep breath before lowering my voice and asking, "Who are you? How would you even know any of this?"

"Well I use to work in that department when they had taken Peter, and I saw what they did to him. What they did wasn't very nice. They had him in like a jail cell, and they had a private discussion about taking one of the town people and killing them so they could use their blood. They did that very thing, and they took out all of Peter's blood and injected him with the person's blood. That's when they put false memories. Once I saw what they did to him I got out of there, but they hunted me down and erased my memories."

"Even if I did believe you, how do you still remember all this then, and why would they use there own people for this madness? Why not use one of them? I asked.

"Well, it didn't matter who they used because everybody on this planet has guardian blood in them they just need to go through a ritual for the true guardian to be brought out of them." The man replied.

"Okay, but what about my other question?"

"Right your other question. Well, I was always worried that they might try something, so I created a device that allowed me to record and save my memories. I updated it every day, paranoid that any day could be my last. So, when that day finally came, and my memories were taken, replaced with new ones. I found clues that I had left for myself to follow so that I could recover my device and regain my original memories."

"Do you think you could help me get Peter to remember?" I asked.

"Well, I have some stuff that might help." The man replied.

"Great! Then you can help me?"

"Well it would be very dangerous, and the guardian folk won't be happy about it if they find out." The man stated.

"Look, Peter is important to me and I want him to know the truth about himself."

"I don't know about this." the man said.

"Please help me help Peter." I pleaded.

After a brief silence, the man finally said: "Alright I'll help you."

"Oh thank you so much, sir!" I exclaimed as I jumped to my feet and embraced the man in a big hug.

"Okay okay," the man chuckled," I'll help but there are two conditions!"

"What is it?" I asked as I let go of him.

"You can't tell anybody I helped you, and don't call me sir. I'm not that old!" the man said with a smile.

"Oh okay, what would you like me to call you then? I inquired.

"My name would be quite nice." the man joked.

"Well if you haven't noticed you haven't told me your name," I replied.

"Oh," he chuckled, "My name is. James Walker, but you can just call me James."

"Okay James, my name is Katie," I replied.

"Come on, I'll take you to my house so we can get the stuff we'll need," James stated as he walked off.

I followed him and we walked in silence, but I noticed that he kept looking at me, and whenever I caught his eye he would quickly look away. When we finally got to his house is when the silence was broken.

"So Katie, are you like involved with anybody?" James asked as he took his keys out of his pocket.

"What do you mean?" I asked even though I had an idea as to what he meant.

He clears his throat and then blurted out, "Are you in a relationship?"

He caught me by surprise and it took me a minute to respond. "N,o I'm not. Why?"

"Oh... Um... I was just wondering."

I knew there was more to it but I wasn't sure so I let it go.

James opened the door and we stepped in.

"I'm going to go get the supplies, I'll be right back."

I looked around the small living room and saw that it had a couch and two chairs. It also had a small TV and a coffee table in the middle of the room.

At that moment James walked in and said: "Got all the stuff we'll need, let's go to your place so we can set up."

"Alright let's go," I said.

We headed out once again, and like last time we walked in silence. It didn't take to long to get there, and we started setting up immediately. We put pictures of him as a child, his mother,r and father, his brothers and sisters, and his home. We also put out old toys and clothes that belonged to him. Once we finished we waited for Peter to come home.

"So, James how is this supposed to work?"

"Well when he comes he will see the stuff we set up, and I'm hoping it will strike his memory," James answered.

At that moment Peter walked in and saw everything. He looked at the pictures, touched the objects we set out, and finally looked at me. "Katie? Where did you get all this?

"Well, James helped me get it all," I answered.

That's when Peter noticed James standing next to me. Suddenly Peter looked furious and he lunged at James, but James saw it coming and he quickly sidestepped Peter. Peter went crashing to the floor, and he sat there as if in shock.

"How much do you know?" Peter asked me.

"James told me how you were a lagooner, how they turned you into a guardian, and how they gave you me to find. Is that true?"

Peter slowly got go and they walked over to where I was standing.

"Yes it is true but there's one more thing you don't know," Peter said quietly.

I looked at James and he shrugged.

Peter took a deep breath before he spoke. "When the guardian assigned me to you they said that I was supposed to bring you to them. I was going to do that but I overheard one of them saying that they wanted to do a test on you. So that night when we came here, some of the guardian folk were trying to come to get you so I took you here so you could hide."

"Why did they want to do a test on me? I asked.

"I don't know," Peter answered.

"Do you have your memories back?" James interrupted

Peter and I both looked at James for this was the first time he spoke since Peter came. "Yeah, I have my memories. I've actually been getting my memories back slowly, I don't know why, but once I saw all this they all came rising back." Peter answered.

"Okay good," James stated as he started to collect all the things he had brought with him.

Peter quickly grabbed James's wrist and stated, "You can't leave yet."

"Why?"

"We are still going to need your help."
