Qestions
"Can we play a game?" The girl asked.
"No," Geralt said.
"Do you want to play a game with me?" The girl asked as Jaskier sighed.
"No," Jaskier said.
"But why? Will your horse play a game with me?" The girl asked.
"No," Geralt informed.
"But why? You never even told me your names! Now we are going on an adventure! Will you be taking me home?" The woman asked.
"Taking you home?" Jaskier asked.
"Yes! Home, you two are supposed to take me there. I was told one day that I would go home and never come back!" She smiled.
"Do you know where your home is?" Geralt asked.
"No, I thought you knew," she laughed.
"You don't know your name or where you are supposed to be," Jaskier informed.
"I already told you all my names," she smiled.
"Those are not names; those are insults," Jaskier corrected.
"Whatever you say! Oh my gosh, guys! A bird!" She said as she was jumping up and down with joy.
"You have never seen a bird?" Jaskier asked.
"I do, but I wasn't allowed to play with them. I'm going to chase it!" She said as her fingernails grew out long, making Jaskier panic.
"Whoah! What the hell?" He asked.
"What, you can't do this?" She asked. She started climbing the tree like it was nothing.
The bird took off, and she jumped over to the other tree and started laughing as the bird kept trying to escape her.
"Hey! Get down from there!" Geralt said.
"But why?" She asked.
"Because you can fall, can you get down?" Geralt asked.
"Um, I think I'm stuck!" She said.
"Of course, she's stuck, fuck," Geralt muttered as he climbed up the tree.
As soon as he was halfway to where she was, she slid down the tree and started laughing.
"I tricked you!" She laughed as Jaskier was now terrified he would lose his temper with her.
He got down, and she hugged him tightly. She was able to pick him off the ground a little as she hugged him, making Jaskier more unsure that they should have helped her. For all they knew, she was playing dumb.
"See, you played a game with me! We should play more!" She said Geralt was shocked by her strength and for being as happy as she was.
"No, we need to reach the town," Geralt said as she put him down.
"I am going to make so many friends! Wait, are there more people out there?" She asked.
"Yes, lots, but not all of them are nice," Geralt informed.
"But what if they are? I like making friends! You and that guy are my best friends! Wait, do the man in the mask and the other man count as friends too?" She asked.
"No! They chained you in a tower and made you this way," Jaskier informed.
"Made me what way?" She asked as Geralt cleared at Jaskier.
"Umm, never mind," Jaskier said.
"Race you to the other side of the woods!" She said happily, but Geralt stopped her.
"You can't go out there, there could be people looking for you, and if they are looking for you, then they might kill us," Geralt informed.
"Aww, okay, fine! Well, then, can I know your names? I'm so bored," she said.
"I'm Geralt of Riva, and that is Jaskier," Geralt informed.
"Well, since I don't have a name, can you give me one?" She asked as she started petting Roach.
"You want a name? Do you have a name that you want to call yourself?" Jaskier asked.
"You said they were all insults, so no," she smiled.
"How about Rebecca," Jaskier said.
"I will never remember that. Plus, that is a long name; what if I get into something I'm not supposed to?" She asked.
"Clara?" Jaskier said.
"I don't think I look like a Clara," she said.
"Stephanie?"
"No,"
"I'm running out of names!" Jaskier informed.
"Surprising considering how many women you have been with," Geralt informed.
"Excuse me! You have been with more women than I have ever been in my entire life! You are 80 years old!" Jaskier informed.
"At least I remember the ones that I liked," Geralt informed.
"What you mean by been with?" The girl asked.
"Fucked, that is what we mean," Jaskier said as Geralt almost punched him in the face, but he had to hold back because the girl was there.
"He means slept with," Geralt said, trying to make it sound better even though it wasn't.
"Okay!" She smiled. Geralt grabbed her again.
"Okay, ground rules you must follow when we are in town. Do not wander off. Do not go with any man or woman that wants you to go with them without telling you where they are going or that tells you not to tell us where you are going. Do not go with any man ever unless it's us; not all of them have good intentions and will hurt you given a chance. If for any reason we get separated, do not go looking for me; find Jaskier, and if Jaskier is gone, there is a map in my bag. Use it," Geralt said.
"But I never even looked at a map," she informed.
"It has town names on it, and it has an x where I go during the winter," Geralt informed.
"You never told me about that," Jaskier informed.
"Because they will kill you, they won't kill her, though," Geralt informed.
"Why?" Jaskier asked.
He went over and grabbed her arm to reveal her scars.
"Oh, that," Jaskier said, "do they all have weaknesses for damsels in distress?"
"They know evil when they see it, and she doesn't have an evil bone in her body," Geralt said as he put her arm down.
"Really? But the man-" she paused.
"The man was wrong; the man with the mask was wrong," Geralt said as they went into town.
People didn't like Geralt, and he was okay with that. The girl was so excited to meet everyone in town that Geralt had to hold on to her so she wouldn't wander off.
"Is that a baby?" She asked, seeing a woman with a baby in her arms.
"Yes," Geralt said.
"Can we get one?" She asked as Geralt sighed.
"No, you need a bath to let's go," he said.
"Okay, I like baths!" She said as they got a couple of rooms.
"Am I with her?" Jaskier asked.
"No, I am, you won't watch her, and you will try to sleep with her," Geralt said.
"No, I won't! She's crazy!" Jaskier informed.
"She's not crazy," Geralt said. She was very confused by a guy flirting with her and went to Geralt.
"I'm giving you a bath; down the hall, third room on the left, there is a bath waiting," Geralt said.
"You are such a pervert!" Jaskier informed.
"Buy her a dress; that dress needs to be burned," he informed Jaskier, giving Jaskier some money.
"Fine, but you owe me," Jaskier informed as Geralt glared at him.
Geralt took the girl to his room and saw the bath water was ready for her. She started taking off her dress in front of him, but he quickly stopped her making her look at her oddly.
"Are you going first?" She asked.
"No, don't change in front of anyone, not even me," he said.
"Why? I did the men that we watching me always liked it when I did that," she informed as he sighed.
"I am not them; you don't know me, you don't know Jaskier. You do not change in front of any man you don't know or care for as a friend. If they mean more to you then you can do that. Other than that, you do not do that," he said.
"Why? I do know your name?" She said.
"You only have known us for a couple of hours, not your whole life," He pointed out.
"Fine, I won't. I still don't understand what the big deal is. Isn't it because it's a man thing?" She asked.
"No," he said.
"Okay, just making sure," she said with a smile.
She got in the bath, and Geralt got behind her to attempt to get her hair out of the odd braid. He could tell that it wasn't taken care of at all. Her long black hair grew out of the braid it was put in. He had to cut the threads her hair was tied up with. It was hard to cut them out without cutting her hair, but he managed to do it. Brushing it out was a different story. It was a lot harder, especially since the nots were years old.
"So, can we be friends now?" She asked.
"Why do you want to be friends with a man you barely know?" He asked as he looked at her back and saw whip and burn marks.
"You aren't mean like the others. You like it when I talk. When I talked before, they would get mad at me, and you haven't hit me yet or yelled. I'm the weird one around here because I don't see anyone getting hit. Those men were the bad ones they were warning me about, " she sighed.
"They are worse still. I guess we can be friends until this is over," Geralt said.
"You know what this is like, don't you? You don't have to say anything about it. I know how everyone looks at you. I hope you know I don't think you are a monster," she said.
"You don't know me that well; you will change your mind," he said.
"I don't think so. Can we be friends?" She asked.
"If it will make you happy, then yes," he said.
"It does; I like how you play with my hair. It's nice," she said.
"I'm not playing with your hair. I'm washing it," he said.
"I could get used to it," she smiled.
"I'm only doing this once; you are doing it yourself next time," he said.
"Maybe this entire time, I was pretending I didn't know how to do it right," she said as he stopped and looked at her.
"Ha! I tricked you again!" She laughed as he rolled his eyes.
Geralt heard moaning coming from next door, and he was pretending he didn't listen to it.
"What is that?" She asked.
"Nothing," Geralt said.
"But what if that person is hurt? We need to go check on them," she said as she tried to get out of the bath, but he pushed her shoulders down so she wouldn't get out.
"No, you don't want to know what they are doing," he explained.
"They? Well, now I know you know something that I don't! Tell me!" She said.
"No," he said.
"Fine then, I will go and look!" He said.
"They are, um... making a child," he said as she looked at him confused.
"Babies come out of people? Do they come out of boys and girls?" She asked as Geralt hoped to avoid this, but she did ask.
"No, just woman," he informed.
"Why?" She asked.
"Because nature decided it," Geralt said as he decided to take a drink of his ale.
"Can we make one of those?" She asked as he almost choked on his drink.
"They are so cute and small!" She said.
"No, you are not ready for that, and they aren't small forever. We were all babies once. They are hard work, annoying to deal with, loud," Geralt informed.
"Yeah, plus what they are doing seems painful. I mean, she sounds like she's hurting," she said as Geralt decided to chug his whole drink.
"You have no idea," Geralt said as he put his empty cup down.
"If I were ready to have kids, could we have kids?" She asked.
"No, that's not how it works. You have to love someone and find someone kind that will stay with you to help take care of everything. I can't have kids because of my mutations. Everything comes at a cost. Even children do. My powers cost me my ability to have children; it gave me an extended life, the ability not to die when I get hurt in certain cases, and a family I care for. I was lucky I didn't die. Not many of the kids my age survived becoming a Witcher. We were all abandoned orphans that no one wanted, so we had nothing left to lose," he informed.
"If you could take it all back, would you?" She asked.
"No, I got to meet you. Help people," he said.
"Geralt, I...." Jaskier paused as he was trying not to say wow.
"Look away, Jaskier!" Geralt growled.
"Well, if I knew she was that big, I would have gotten something bigger. This may be too small for um top region," Jaskier said as he looked away.
"Do this again, and I will kill you," Geralt informed.
"It's not my fault! My eyes always go there; you, of all people, know this," he informed.
