Chapter 12
The floor suddenly felt cold, and mildly uncomfortable. Nathan awoke to find himself on a metallic floor that was white when light hit it, but the dim lighting made the room look slightly teal. He pushed himself off the floor, feeling slightly out of balance. Joseph was already awake, sitting on a metal bench in a white T-shirt.
He arose as he could already tell Nathan was growing uneasy with this containment. "Take it easy, Nate; at least there's good ventilation, focus on that."
Nathan spun slowly to take in the surroundings. It was a containment cell that appeared to be well-hidden as the walls around the cell were built to reinforce. Connected to them was a walkway along the perimeter of the circular room. He stopped rotating when he found a wide chrome door ahead of them and a steel-grated bridge leading to the cell. Bridge. This feature just registered in Nathan's mind and he strided to the reinforced glass to notice that this cell was elevated above an abyss. It was as if the cell was designed to release should something go severely wrong.
He pounded a fist on the glass, "What the FUCK?!"
Joseph came over and marvelled at the sight, "Holy- I did not see this!"
"This wasn't supposed to be so complicated!"
"Well, there's seven gems we had to find, that doesn't sound easy."
"But I never thought we had all this shit to go with it! Sure, we knew we had Sonic to deal with, but we didn't expect more of him! We have three fucking Mobians, seven missing Chaos Emeralds- in which the one person that has at least one of them is that Ansem guy! Speaking of which, Geo doesn't even know we're on a different planet!"
"Well shit, when you put it that way-"
"It's a big fucking mess! I have a wife and a kid, why the fuck am I even here?!"
"Because of your wife and kid, remember?"
Nathan wanted to continue ranting, but Joseph's words extinguished his fire a bit.
"This is bullshit." Nathan said, throwing out his guns onto the floor.
The door across from them glided open to let Director Fury into the room, with Thor close behind him.
Nathan approached the glass again, "You got a lot of nerve-"
"OK," Joseph barged in, "You sit down now and let me do the talking. We know how you get in these situations."
Nathan raised his hands in submission, moving back and slumping down on the bench. "Fine! Whatever!"
"Why don't we try this again: Who are you and where are you from?" asked Fury.
"We apologize for the misunderstanding in our first meeting, we were quite confused with the situation. My name is Joseph Luno and behind me is my partner, Nathan Blackwood."
"You say 'partner' like you were on some kind of mission."
"Like I said, we're an emergency-unit for the CIA. We've come to the conclusion that this is not the same planet we were in prior."
"Clearly."
"Wha- So if you knew, why'd you chase us?"
"We couldn't make the assumption then, but you also fled. Looking for something, perhaps?"
"Uh, yeah."
"Well?"
"Well, let's bring it to the top then. We were sent from our Earth to another Earth to retrieve seven magical gems that could control time or space or whatever. The Guardian of our planet believed that their misuse was causing our dimension to collide with theirs, so he was granted permission to act on the situation. Unfortunately, we ran into more trouble than we anticipated, and somehow, the one Chaos Emerald we managed to get our hands on must've transported us here."
Fury stepped closer to the glass, face-to-face with Joseph, "See I want to believe you, but there's one thing that concerns me. What did Johnathon Blaze want with you?"
"Wha'?"
"The Ghost Rider. He took a particular interest in wanting to deal with you three."
"Uh...I'm not exactly sure why us, but Shadow attempted to steal his motorcycle.
Thor moved closer now, "Perhaps the Rider believed the demon half-blood over there to be a threat, while assuming that this wolf-man was his cohort."
"But how did he know our names?"
"The Rider knows all that it needs to. Are you certain that you have not crossed him before?"
Nathan then leaned over laughing, pointing at Joseph.
"What?" frowned Joe.
"Remember when the Reaper was after you and you asked me what would happen if you went to another dimension?"
"Oh yeah, you said the Reaper of that dimension will-...Oh shit. But, why didn't he know about the deal then?"
"I don't think your his primary concern right now, anyway."
The sliding doors opened again and a woman in a fitted black bodysuit entered the room with a tablet in her hand. She took her attention off the screen and removed her curly crimson hair away from her contrasting cool blue eyes.
"Director," she greeted with her slight Russian accent, "you need to see this."
She handed the tablet to Fury and immediately left after greeting Thor.
"Wow, that is one beautiful woman!" exclaimed Joseph.
"Tread carefully, that woman is as dangerous as she is attractive." Thor chortled.
"Sounds like a challenge."
"More like a warning."
"'Warning' is just a synonym for 'suggestion.'"
"I highly doubt the validity of that."
"Getting back to the point here," Fury interrupted, "You mentioned something about some magic gems?"
The duo nodded.
"I think I'm starting to believe your story now. Right after you five appeared, we picked up another reading, way different than all of yours. We initially thought there must've been six of you, and the other was smart enough to high-tail out of there. Turns out, our sixth target is not what we thought it was."
Fury held up his tablet and faced it the other way to reveal a fuzzy screenshot of the white Chaos Emerald.
"It's in Hohenberg, Austria," claimed Fury, swiping his finger at the screen to display a diagram with several constellated holographic circles.
"What's that?" asked Joseph.
"This here is a map of dimensions within the proximity of our own. The red one is the one we're in now. It's rare that we even have one come close to ours- but here, we have seven of them."
As soon as Thor got to analyze the map, he snorted and started to leave.
"Where do you think you're going?" questioned Fury.
Thor stopped as soon as the exit detected him. "Back to Asgard. I am sorry, but I want no part of this. I will not risk the safety of Asgard for such nonsense caused by these other-worlders. Farewell."
As soon as Thor was gone, Nathan let out a deep gasp, "Joseph!"
"Yeah, what?"
Nathan pulled Joseph away from the glass.
"It just hit me; I think I know where we are." he whispered.
"Oh really? Where then?"
"As far as I know, this is the only world that has more than one Spirit of Vengeance. What it looks like right now is that the realities that are intersecting are all ones that have established some kind of connection with another one prior."
"Connection?"
"For example, when Sonic first came to our dimension, that was the first connection that made his dimension prone to meeting ours. Now, who else can you remember could have possibly made a similar connection?"
Joseph scratched his head, thinking hard about it. He then slapped his hands on his forehead, "OH SHIT! Drake!"
"Who?" Fury now.
"We just realized we have a friend here, and perhaps if you let us out, we can get him for help, get the Emerald, and be out of your way."
"And I'm pretty sure you know the person since they were recently transported from our planet back to yours." added Nate.
Director Fury went quiet for a moment, realization hitting him. "You're allied with Dracula?"
"He turned over a new leaf on our planet."
"So it was your planet he was residing in this whole damn time? Well, I don't know how to feel about that plan of yours; he's the same threat he was before he disappeared."
"That asshole..." Joseph muttered.
"Please, we're wasting time here. These Mobians are out there looking for those Chaos Emeralds and if they return to their home with them, things'll only escalate from here. The black hedgehog, Shadow, he can detect their energies, so he'll find them first- and based off personal experience, you do not want him to be the one to have them. He's reckless, but makes it dangerously effective."
Fury exhaled sharply, conflicted on a decision. "Fine, but if you're lying to me, I have more assets who can deal with you two. Keep in mind, Ghost Rider is probably still out there looking for you and that Shadow."
"I can try to sway him to our side," suggested Nathan. "How about this, I go find Ghost Rider, while Joseph goes to talk with Dracula? The more the merrier."
Fury hesitated, but gave a curt nod, and exited the room.
Elsewhere...
"Shit, shit, SHIT! Why haven't they picked up yet?!"
Geo was meditating on the wooden floor of his living room, trying to reach out to the distant Nathan and Joseph, but there was no luck as the ship has been inactive the entire day.
"They need to know about the Heartless, they could jeopardize the whole mission! Something isn't adding up though. There's two different factors now that pose a threat to all realities- it isn't just coincidence..."
"I hope I'm not in the wrong place."
The voice came from outside of the cabin. The cabin was invisible from the outside, but Geo could see through the walls; there was a white adolescent boy with dirty-blonde, spiky hair, passing by the side of the cabin. His unique attire included a black short-sleeved hoodie with a gold belt-strap studded from each shoulder to the torso. His baggy shorts matched in color and in straps, in which two crisscrossed at his waist, and he had one wrapped around each thigh. Geo thought to comment on this odd new clothing trend, but remembered he only saw one other person with similar features: Ansem, who Geo knows is an extraterrestrial. Even more alarming, there were two great energies emanating from this boy.
Geo exited his cabin and skipped the stairs to land on the grass, "Excuse me, are you lost?"
The boy spun around as if startled. "Uh, not sure."
"What are you doing around here?"
The boy hesitated, "I'm looking for someone named Geo? Would you happen to know who that is?"
Geo's eyes narrowed in suspicion, "That's me. And you are?"
"My name is Sora. I came here to help you."
"With?"
"Everything."
Sora then reached in his pocket and pulled out a familiar glowing green gem.
"W-Where'd you get that?" Geo marvelled at the Chaos Emerald, stepping closer to Sora.
"Whoa, hold on. Your world is in grave danger, along with several others from other dimensions. I came here to help you end this crisis, this war."
"War?"
Sora shoved the Chaos Emerald back in his pocket. "Are you busy, because there's a lot I have to explain to you?"
Geo straightened out his fuschia suit jacket, "You're not with Ansem, are you?"
Sora frowned. "So you've met him already?"
"What do you know about him?"
"Again, that's what I'm here for, to help."
Geo sighed, then snapped his fingers. He invited Sora to follow him into the cabin as it began to uncloak itself from top to bottom.
While So...
"I think we lost 'em." said Sonic, taking a seat on the concrete ground of the alleyway.
"That S.H.I.E.L.D. is no joke!" said Silver, sitting across from Sonic.
Once more, off in the distance, police sirens resonated.
"Oh, come on! We're in a whole different city now!" complained Sonic.
Suddenly, they heard a fizzing sound at their side. There was an orange circle spinning in mid-air, outlining what looked to be a dark empty room.
"It's a portal." Silver arose. "Should we go in?"
"Do we have a choice?"
"Guess not."
"You first."
Sonic then slid behind Silver and tried to push him in, but Silver teleported behind Sonic and telekinetically forced him into the portal first, then followed after, and the portal collapsed into nothing behind them.
"Nice try." said Silver.
The floor creaked as they rotated. The room had dozens of shelves filled with books and scrolls. There were no lights, just some torches placed in several corners of the room.
"Welcome, Sonic and Silver."
The voice came from behind the bookshelf at their left. They cautiously tiptoed around it, but the old creaking didn't help.
"Well, there's no sense in trying to remain quiet when I know that you're here." said the voice again.
When the hedgehogs reached the other side, they found a table set out with two empty chairs on their side, and an awaiting man on the other.
"Whoa," smirked Sonic, "Are you a wizard?"
"Close; a sorcerer- Sorcerer Supreme, that is. But, you may call me Doctor Strange."
"Where do you see wizard in his outfit?" Silver mocked Sonic.
"Everywhere, look at him! He's got a long red cape with a big collar, a necklace with a big ol' magic charm-thing, big yellow gloves, and a dark blue wizard outfit."
"You just gave me a headache."
"Likewise." the sorcerer agreed.
"Thanks for helping us, Mr. Str-"
"Doctor Strange."
"Hey Doc, where are we?" asked Sonic.
"The Sanctum Sanctorum, you're safe here. Now, let's get straight to business: I'd like to help you two by sharing some very important information in regards to this interdimensional crisis." The chairs then pulled back from the table, "Please, have a seat."
*And now things should be clearer now, I imagine?
