XIV
S0L stood at a cliffs edge, before him a beautiful view of vast and imposing mountains, untouched by evil or civilization. But his eyes were not focused on the nature, on the beauty of it all. He stared at his hands, in which, a skull was being held. He caressed it gently, stroking it with his thumb. He acted as if it was made of the thinnest glass, not bone. A knife stuck out from it, embedded into the forehead. He was surrounded by his soldiers and Zavala was there with him, as well as Ikora, they remained silent, dared not to speak. The silence was deafening, there was nothing going on, no gust of wind, no movement of anything. He grasped and pulled out the knife, it was a heavy knife, ones that Hunters usually use. His grip tightened on the handle, Zavala and Ikora watched in shock. They saw something they never thought could be possible, a machine, a AI warmind showing emotion. Anger, fury, sorrow and something more sinister. He looked at them, his gaze penetrating into their skin, causing them to tense up. He walked towards them, they tensed up, reaching for their gun. As he stopped an inch away from Zavala, their eyes met with such intensity that it made the air feel heavy. But then he just walked past and headed back to the ship.
S0L: Bury her.
His robots nodded and immediately got to work. Burying her remains and laying flowers on top. The flight back to the city felt tense, there were no words exchanged between the two parties. He just sat there, staring at the knife in his hand. Once at the city, they separated, Zavala and Ikora were scared because they didn't know what S0L would do. But he went away, finding a nice secluded spot atop one of the walls structures, facing outwards. He sat at the edge, his feet dangling off of the edge. There was this constant voice in his head, promising him of great tales, an alternate reality. During his many trances, a single room constantly reappeared, short visions of it. The voice promised help, an ally to aide him in his mission. As well as the dark, ominous promise of bringing her back into his presence. He looked out at the horizon, a faint smile appeared on his face. The Vanguard cannot be trusted, they killed her, maybe not them directly, but the Guardians did. But, one thing he did not know, is where the room actually was. It did not appear to be any known location, any documented one. So, he sent out an order into his forces to explore Earth, every nook and cranny that they can, to find that room if possible. If it exists. If not there, the other planets will have to do. But from the blurry visions, he saw metro trains, old and overgrown. That is what leads him to believe that the room is on Earth.

With the virus subdued for now, controlled but still a threat, the Vanguard could relax. But the leaders of the two factions were not in the Last City, they were in long abandoned London that had been overrun with the Fallen and Hive, but S0L's forces were there to clean. The two leaders were walking down the Oxford Street, between the ruined and destroyed homes, surrounded and ensured safety by S0L's forces.
Zavala: Why are we here?
S0L: You will see.
They come upon a stairway leading down into the metro. S0L walked forward with Zavala following after him.
Zavala: Is there some kind of secret here that you have not told us and that is of significant importance?
S0L: To some extent. But that secret I too did not know that it existed.
Zavala: So how did you discover it?
S0L: I had visions and one thing remained a constant. A single space constantly appeared in it.
Zavala's expression darkened. The word vision terrified him, for an AI to have dreams, visions is unheard off.
Zavala: Vision?
S0L: Correct. Like a dream. I know it is weird, but all I speak of is true. So, I sent out my drones to explore every corner of Earth, to find me that which haunts my dreams.
Zavala: A machine should not be able to dream.
S0L: That is correct, but, I am not a machine any longer.
They walked through the dark hallways, littered with bones of the many poor souls that were trapped and died here. Bones crunched beneath their steps, they paid the fallen no mind. It would be impossible to traverse if they did. They found themselves in the main area, long abandoned train carts, overgrown by nature and hive influence.
Zavala: What are we looking for?
S0L: A door I think.
Zavala: You think?
S0L: The visions were a blurry mess, but I am sure it is somewhere here.
Zavala sighed but he too began to search around, warry of the possible dangers that could lurk in these dark depths. He too was accompanied by two heavy robotic soldiers, wielding machineguns, acting as his guards. S0L noticed something odd as he explored. The area here, the reality seemed unstable. He could see, what appeared to be cracks in the very air. But as he swished his hand over, it just passed through. Zavala looked behind one of the staircases and saw a wooden door where it clearly isn't supposed to be. First, underneath the stairlift, in an angle which is just frankly stupid.
Zavala: S0L, I think I found it.
S0L rushed over and saw it, a simple, unassuming door plastered on the underside. One of the robots bent over and S0L climbed on top of it and opened the door, revealing a hallway. He extended out his hand towards Zavala.
S0L: Let's go and see what is what?
Zavala reluctantly reached out and they stepped through, falling onto the floor on the other side. As they walked through the unassuming hallway, Zavala was more tense than S0L who appeared relaxed. Despite the unknown. They came across another door and opened it, stepping through into one of the most beautiful places they have ever seen. A room adorned in gold and white metal like surface, at the end of which was a circular structure. Throughout all this time, the voice in S0L's mind was louder, clearer. There were two consoles of unknown design and S0L immediately approached them, began to navigate their complex function. He was moving as if he knew what he was doing, but he didn't. He was doing what felt right, what the voice was telling him. The first console activated, the circular's structure inner disk began to rotate.
Zavala: What are you doing?!
S0L: What has to be done.
He set on doing the other console. Zavala was scared, he was unsure, he did not know what dangers could come out. Zavala pointed his rifle at S0L who had already finished with the second console, causing the second disc to start rotating.
Zavala: What have you done?! What danger will come into this world?
S0L did not avert his gaze from his console, Zavala could not see it, but S0L was smiling more than ever. The was a crackle of lightning before the space at the structure began to act weird. The air itself broke apart, letting in an unknown energy of ghostly white and sickly green. As Zavala looked back at S0L, he was standing there, aiming with his revolver at his head. Hammer cocked back. They engaged in an intense standoff.
Zavala: What have you done?!
S0L: What needed to be done. I will bring us hope! I will bring HER back. We will reach for the stars, free ourselves from the dependance of otherworldly creatures. We will conquer the very stars, become Kings and Queens. I am what you never were.
Zavala: And what is that?
S0L: Ambitious, opportunistic and willing to change.
Zavala managed to fire off a shot, hitting S0L in the shoulder but S0L fired back, shooting Zavala in the head. Zavala's lifeless body fell to the ground.
S0L: Bastard.
He holstered his gun and walked towards the portal which had calmed down and stood there, his left arm numb, the damage is severe. A figure stepped through, a creature of unknown origin. S0L could only smile and bow down.
S0L: Welcome!
