The Spear of Selene

The family were flying through a storm in the Sunchaser. The plane shook as Donald was putting on protective gear on. The plane tilted upward, sending Donald rolling across the plane. "Aw, come on, a little lightning never killed anyone." Launchpad said, who was piloting the plane. "Statistically speaking..." Huey couldn't finish as the plane was struck by lightning. Everyone but Charlotte screamed as an alarm was blaring. Launchpad smashed his fist on some buttons and everything returned to normal. "See? Nothin' to worry about." Launchpad said.

A flashing red light began to beep. "Well, what about that flashing red light?" Webby asked. "Huh?" Launchpad banged his fist on the light, but nothing happened. "That's just probably the 'everything is fine' light." Launchpad said. "Okay, but hypothetically, what if it's the 'everything is not fine' light?" Dewey asked. Launchpad gasped. "Oh, no!" Launchpad then began to pull levers and push buttons, his hands off the steering wheel. The plane began to nosedive downward as everyone began to scream in terror, except for Charlotte, who just looked on in fear. Even with the many dangers she's encountered with everyone, she still refuses to use her voice.

The plane crashed on a remote island. As soon as they did, the weather changed from a storm to a sunny day. Everyone looked out the window. "Where are we?" Louie asked. "According to the JWG, we're off the tip of Greece, and... wait, this cant be right. I thought it was a myth." Huey said. "What? What is this place?" Louie asked. "Ithaquack." Scrooge answered. "What!?" Donald asked, all tangled up in some rope. Charlotte looked out the window to see Greek homes and even a Greek temple at the top of a massive hill. Everyone was gawking at the beautiful sight.

"No. No, no, no. We gotta go, now." Donald said. "Get this plane in the air!" Scrooge ordered Launchpad. "Sorry, Mr. McD, gotta figure out what this flashing light means. I always say, better safe than... whatever the opposite of safe is. Yeah. I do say that." Launchpad said. "When have you ever said that!?" Scrooge asked. "Hmm. Might as well take a look around." Webby suggested. Everyone cheered as they ran out the plane. "No!" Donald shouted. "Everyone stay on the plane!" Scrooge instructed. The only one who didn't exit the plane was Charlotte, who did what Scrooge said.

After about a few seconds, Donald exited the plane to gather up the kids. Louie was lying down on the beach when Donald stood beside him, blocking the sun. Huey was already in Donald's arms. "You're in my light." Louie said as he turned around on his side. Donald picked him up and carried them to the plane. "No. We have to get back to the plane. You don't know what's out there." Donald said. "What could be dangerous about a beautiful Grecian vacation island?" Louie asked.

Donald was then tackled to the ground, causing Donald to let go of Huey and Louie. When they turned to see who it was, they saw a giant stork hugging Donald while laughing with pure joy, even tossing Donald into the air before catching him. "Oh, glorious day! May the fates sing of your return, friend Donald, sailor of the seven seas!" He said. "Hiya, buddy." Donald responded.

The stork gasped once he spotted Huey and Louie, dropping Donald. He pointed between Donald and the boys before scooping them up. "Be these colorful creatures your kin? By Hephaestus' Hammer, half-grown heroes in the making!" He said. "Um, who are you?" Huey asked. "Your uncle must've told tale of Storkules! Colossus of Corinth, hero of Heliopolis, and, my proudest accomplishment, best friend to Donald Duck." Storkules grabbed Donald's hand and made him do a secret handshake with him. Storkules? I've only heard of that name once before. "The Storkules of Greek legend is your best friend!?" Huey asked Donald. "Uh, more like an acquaintance." Donald answered. "Ha-ha! Thine tongue be as quick and mighty as, well, me." Storkules patted Donald on the back, digging Donald deep into the ground.

"Donald! Get the boys onboard! We can't let him know we're here." Scrooge said. "Can't let who know we're here?" Louie asked. Thunder rumbled as the sky darkened. Charlotte shrank back, staying close to Scrooge. A tall figure descended from the sky on a cloud. "Scrooge McDuck! You dare defy the will of Zeus?" Zeus emerged from the darkness, holding a lightning bolt like a staff. "The King of the Gods!? Get out!" Huey exclaimed. "Oh, so many questions. Do you control all storms, or just lightning? Does being immortal also make you impervious to pain? Do you cry?" Huey stomped on Zeus' foot. Huey gasped as Louie covered his mouth. "You know where I can find a good gyro?" Louie asked Zeus. "Always ask the locals." Louie whispered to Huey. "The myths are real! This place is amazing!" Huey said. "It used to be amazing, until Scrooge and his mortal riffraff showed up and ruined it!" Zeus said. "What!?" Both Huey and Louie asked. Scrooge and Donald only looked at each other. Charlotte continued to stay close to Scrooge. Zeus was reminding her of someone she wanted to forget.

They walked to a small area on the beach that looked to be a place for people to watch others compete. Zeus was on a throne, using hydria's, or Greek vases, to explain his story. "Ithaquack was the secret vacation spot for gods and heroes. And I was the God of Hospitality. The King of the Beach. Everyone loved me. Then Scrooge showed up. Defeated the unkillable Gorgon, found the lost treasure of Troy, was really good at building sand castles. Bah!" Zeus explained. "Seems pretty fun." Louie said. "'Twas." Storkules said as he held up a hydria of him and Donald being best friends. "No, it twasn't!" Zeus said, stomping his foot. "Scrooge showed up like he was so cool and ruined it!" Zeus whined.

"Ugh, jengs. Leave it to an immortal to whine about the good old days. So, where is everyone?" Scrooge asked. "They all left when you did. Said they didn't want to party with a 'lame god' who couldn't even beat a lowly mortal." Zeus answered. Scrooge picked up a hydria that depicted Zeus raining down lightning to everyone. "There may have also been a year-long storm." Zeus admitted. Huey and Louie looked at the hydria, but Charlotte didn't move. She couldn't. She was keeping her eyes on Zeus. Why? Why does he remind me so much of them? I don't want to remember.

In a desperate attempt to keep herself calm, she shifted her focus to Donald and Storkules. "But now that you have returned, Storkules, noble Donald, and his fiery sister-halt." Storkules looked around. "Where is Della?" Donald looked at Huey and Louie before lowering his head. "I see. Then we shall embark upon a rousing adventure to honor our fallen compatriot!" Storkules said. "I don't adventure anymore." Donald said. "What!? But adventure is the very blood in your veins! Well, we must at least hold a feast to celebrate your return!" Huey and Louie cheered at the news. "What?" Scrooge and Zeus asked. Yeah, what? "Father, surely the God of Hospitality would not cast out a crew of weary travelers." Storkules said while petting Donald. "Well, no, I guess not." Zeus said. Storkules laughed. "It shall be a bacchanal for the ages! Beach party!" Storkules yelled out as Huey and Louie cheered.

Some time passed, and everyone was just sitting around while a harp was being played by a Pegasus. This is a party? It's worst than Huey's party for Mr. McDuck's birthday. Louie was the only one enjoying the party, as he was eating what he considered to be the best grapes. Scrooge ate a single chip that Zeus offered. "A little salty." Scrooge commented. Zeus flipped a cooler in anger, nearly missing Huey, Louie, Charlotte, and Donald. Charlotte had curled up into a ball at the sudden action, slightly shaking. "Dip's not good enough for you, mortal!? You offend Olympus!" Zeus yelled out to Scrooge. "Maybe people didn't leave because they liked me, but because they didn't like you." Scrooge said.

Everyone had gone quiet, even the Pegasus leaving while whistling. Please, don't make him more angry. Please! Storkules jumped in. "Ha-ha! Perhaps some festive beach games will lighten the mood." Storkules suggested. "Yes! A contest! Your family versus mine in a series of heroic trials. Yea, all will know that we are the superior party hounds and return to the island!" Zeus agreed. He turned around to see Scrooge guiding the kids away back to the plane. "This is exactly why we stopped vacationing here." Scrooge said. Thank you, Mr. McDuck. I want to leave. "But, guys, epic trials! Zeus!" Huey said. "Delicious grapes!" Louie added. Thunder crackled as an electric dome surrounded them, preventing them from leaving. "You're not going anywhere." Zeus said. Huey and Louie cheered. "Ah, phooey." Scrooge and Donald said. Please, no.

As they got ready for the first trial, Huey and Louie were put into tunics. "Oh, I love these tunics. It's so breezy, so comfortable." Louie said. "And surprisingly slimming." Huey added. "Storkules may have brute strength, but he's also an idiot. You lads can use that to your advantage. I believe in you all." Scrooge turned to Charlotte. "Lass, are you sure you don't want to compete?" Scrooge asked. Charlotte desperately nodded her head. Scrooge could sense fear in her, and it worried him. "You lads go to your Uncle Donald and get ready." Huey and Louie nodded and made their way to Donald.

Scrooge stood in front of Charlotte and kneeled down on one knee, reaching her eye level. "Lass, what's wrong?" Scrooge asked gently. Charlotte gripped the edge of her sweater as she glanced at Zeus before quickly glancing down. Scrooge looked at Zeus before looking back at her. "Are you... afraid of Zeus?" He asked. Charlotte looked away from Scrooge as tears started to form. I'm sorry. I just can't help it. He reminds me so much of them... "Oh, lass." Scrooge dug in his pockets and pulled out a small handkerchief. "Dry those tears." He handed her the handkerchief. She grabbed his handkerchief and used it to wipe away her tears. Charlotte handed the handkerchief back to Scrooge. "There's no need to be afraid, lass. If he try's anything to hurt you, I'll protect you." Charlotte looked at him for a second before writing something on the sand.

'Promise?'

Scrooge smiled at her. "I promise." Charlotte slowly smiled at Scrooge. "Come on, lass. Let's take our seats." Scrooge said, guiding her to their seats. "To your positions!" Charlotte jumped at Zeus' booming voice, clutching onto Scrooge's sleeve. "It's okay, lass. I'm right here." Charlotte nodded as she relaxed a little.

Everyone made their way to the starting line, all getting ready in a running position. Well, except for Donald, who just stood at the line not caring. "Whoever claims Aeolus' Bag of Winds first, wins. Understood?" Zeus explained as he set the bag down on the ground in front of them. "Five or six questions-."
"On your mark, get set-." Zeus clapped his hands together to make thunder crash, signaling them to go.

Everyone started to run, except for Donald. "Uh, nope!" He said as he turned around, walking the opposite way. Zeus opened the bag, winds pouring out. The winds was so strong that it sent Donald flying into a pillar. Storkules was running through the winds just fine while Huey and Louie were digging their fingers into the ground to prevent themselves from flying. "We're never gonna beat him like this!" Huey yelled to Louie. Louie's tunic them blew open like a parachute. "Ah! Too breezy! Too breezy!" Louie yelled. Huey then gasped. "Idea!" Huey let go, using the winds to send him flying to a banner, that then propelled him forward above the winds. When he was high enough, he used his tunic as a parachute to send him down gently. When he landed safely on the ground, he ran over to the bag and closed it.

Storkules laughed. "Well done, nephews of Donald! What ingenuity! From henceforth, you shall be known as Hubert, Tamer of Winds, and Llewellyn, Fighter of Storms!" Storkules declared. "Awesome!" Huey said excitedly. "Please do not say my real name out loud." Louie begged. Great job, guys. "Heh-heh. Satisfied?" Scrooge smugly asked Zeus. "Doesn't count! They cheated! Best two out of three!" Zeus said.

They continued on with numerous trails, many of which Donald has won without even trying. Each time, Zeus would get mad, and each time, Charlotte would get scared. Charlotte was constantly afraid that Zeus would break and go on a rampage. Thankfully, Scrooge was there to remind her that she was safe. The only trial that Storkules has won was when he made a... unique clay sculpture of Donald.

"Now comes the ultimate challenge. Steal the Golden Fleece from this small child." Zeus said as he stepped aside to reveal a child holding a Golden Fleece. "This is your ultimate challenge?" Scrooge asked. "There's no way we're gonna beat Storkules on this one." Louie said. They turned to Storkules, who looked absolutely distraught at the idea. "Steal? From a child? But if I were to do a such a thing, could I ever truly be called a hero? Donald, I am in need of your wise counsel." But Donald was nowhere to be found. "Donald? Donald!" He then spotted Donald walking away and chased after him. Charlotte couldn't hear their conversation, but it ended with Donald leaving with a sad look on his face.

Storkules returned, pacing back and forth about the situation. He mumbled on and on, trying to decide what the right choice was. "Just grab it already!" Zeus yelled at Storkules. "I got it." Louie said. Really, Louie!? "Louie!" Huey said, disappointed. "What? I'm also a little kid. It's fine." Louie said. The child then began to sing, her eyes glowing light blue. "Plug your ears! No good ever came from a creepy child singing!" Scrooge said as he plugged his ears. Huey, Louie, and Charlotte did what Scrooge said and plugged their ears. The only one who didn't plug their ears was Storkules. As he was pacing, he suddenly stopped. As the child continued to sing, Storkules eyes glowed light blue as well. "Oh. The child is actually a mind-controlling siren. Did I not mention that? Storkules, finish them!" Zeus ordered. Storkules turned to the family and began to make his way to them. "Uh oh!" Huey said.

They all dodged as Storkules delivered the first blow. Huey, Louie, and Charlotte all ran away as Scrooge was fending Storkules off. "No! My fists betray my heart! Father! Stop this madness!" Zeus only shrugged his shoulders with a smile. Storkules pounded his fists onto the ground, making the ground move like a wave and knocked Scrooge and the kids off their feet. They quickly got up and ran away before Storkules could attack. "Just lay off, man! It's not my fault I best you at pretty much everything I do." Scrooge said. "Not helping." Louie said.

Scrooge tried his best to fend off Storkules. Not only did he want to protect his nephews, but he wanted to protect Charlotte as well. I made a promise to her, and I intend on keeping it! However, Storkules was proven to be too strong and drove Scrooge and the kids to a corner. Huey and Louie called out for help, but no one immediately arrived. Scrooge held his cane in front of Huey and Louie to protect them, and held out his left arm in front of Charlotte to protect her. "I must apologize in advance for crushing your tiny bodies. I want you to know that as my best friend, Donald's family, I consider you my second-tier best friends. Farewell!"

Time slowed down for Charlotte as she stared up at Storkules in horror. As Storkules raised his fist to finish them off, her eyes played tricks on her as Storkules flashed to a tall figure, raising his fist in a similar manner. Charlotte gasped loudly as she curled up into a ball on instinct, covering her head and face for protection. She shook violently as tears flowed down her face. She tried her best to hold back her sobs, whimpering instead. She didn't even notice that Donald had come back to save them. She was too terrified.

Donald fought Storkules off to protect everyone. As he did, Scroge kneeled down to Charlotte. "Lass? Charlotte, are you alright?" Scrooge reached his hand out to comfort her, but she harshly flinched. Scrooge retracted his hand. He so desperately wanted to comfort her, but he knew he couldn't. He didn't want to scare her any more than she already was. "Charlotte. Listen to my voice. Focus on me." Charlotte hesitantly looked at Scrooge. Scrooge made sure that he was blocking the fight from Charlotte. "It's okay, Charlotte. Breath with me." Scrooge then took a deep breath in and out in a slow pattern. Charlotte followed his lead and breathed in and out. Her shaking ceased, but she continued to whimper. "It's okay. You safe." Charlotte slowly nodded her head, some tears rolling down her face.

Scrooge looked behind him to see Donald having some trouble. "Huey, Louie, watch over Charlotte while I help your Uncle Donald." Scrooge said. Scrooge snuck up behind Storkules as Storkules held Donald. "Know that I regret this most bitterly." Storkules said. Before Storkules could do anything, Scrooge climbed in Storkules' back and put his cane in his mouth, holding him back like a horse. "Seems like old times, eh, lad?" Scrooge asked Donald. Donald smirked while chuckling.

"We gotta stop the singing!" Huey said. "I'm on it." Louie said. Louie approached the siren. "What a magical voice! Do you have any idea how much money I could make on a voice like your?" The siren turned to Louie. "Zeus just wants to use you. I want to use you to make us both rich. What do you say?" Louie asked, sticking his hand out. The siren stopped singing and shook Louie's hand. "You've got a deal." She said in a deep, raspy voice. "Great." Louie said nervously.

Scrooge was flown off of Storkules' back just as Storkules was no longer in control. "Donald's you have saved me! Oh, come here." Storkules grabbed Donald and gave him a hug. "Don't hug the enemy! What are you doing!?" Zeus yelled as Storkules was petting Donald. "They're best friends." Scrooge said. "Acquaintances!" Donald corrected. "Perhaps we've been letting our pride get in the way for decades and its our families who suffer." Scrooge glanced back at Charlotte, who had calmed down a bit, before facing Zeus. "What do you say? Peace?" Scrooge asked, sticking his hand out. Zeus slapped his hand away. "Does beating me really mean that much to you?" Scrooge asked. "Yes, absolutely." Zeus said, crossing his arms. "Oh, fine. One final challenge. Winner gets all the glory." Scrooge said, sticking his hand back out. Zeus stared at Scrooge's hand before shaking it.

They played one final game, where they have to get their ball inside a small circle. Zeus' ball was inside the circle. Scrooge held out his ball and dropped it on purpose. "Oh, I-oh, I cannot believe I choked on the last round." Scrooge said, pretending to have 'accidentally' lost. "Yes! I win! In your face, McDuck!" Zeus then started to do a little dance while singing, getting rid of the electric dome keeping them there.

Please. Let's just leave. Storkules approached Charlotte. "Young child, I am terribly sorry for giving you such a fright. As a hero, I did not mean to." Storkules apologized. Charlotte stared up at Storkules before writing something on the sand.

'It's not your fault.'

Charlotte left it at that and made her way to Scrooge. "Are you feeling better, lass?" Scrooge asked. Charlotte didn't respond for a couple of seconds before nodding. Scrooge knew that she was lying, but he didn't want to pressure her to tell him the truth. Especially after everything she's been through. "Alright, lass." Scrooge said.

Dewey and Webby suddenly appeared, Dewey holding a sphere. "There you two are. Right, let's get back to the plane before he comes up with another cockamamie contest." Scrooge said, walking away. Charlotte followed after him. Not even a second later, Zeus screamed as the sky darkened, thunder crashing. "We should go now." Scrooge said. They all ran to the plane, only to see the plane completely destroyed and taken apart. "Okay. I think I found the problem." Launchpad said, holding a screw.
