Chapter 3: Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Thousands of miles out in deep space, the fleet of the Hoo-Meerian Empire continued on their path to Earth, unabated. The long, oval-shape of their crystal black hulls were decorated with triangle-like fins, with odd, star-shaped bumps on their undersides. At the helm of the fleet was the Main Flagship, which boasted a giant dome beneath its Command Bridge.
Presently, on the flagship's Command Bridge, a very serious meeting was taking place. What was this meeting? A meeting between the Hoo-Meerian Emperor and his fifteen trusted elders of the Matchmaking Council.
While humanoid in appearance, these aliens had a number of strange features. For starters, their ears were pointed like that of elves. Their skin was a dark, fiery orange, which complimented their purple eyes. Short, black hair adorned the crowns of their heads. Pointy green nails were at the ends of their long fingers, which these Elders used to operate the Command Bridge's systems. The Emperor wore a scarlet-and-black robe and a sparkling blue crown with white jewels. As for his Elders, they were dressed in flashy, flowing golden robes that glistened with the elegance of a thousand stars.
Together, the Emperor and his Elders ran the Hoo-Meerian Matchmaking Empire. The subject of their current deliberation? How to bring Earth into the Matchmaking Fold.
"Now, my Elders, I trust all is in order?" the Emperor spoke with his usual exaggerated elegance.
"Yes, your Highness," one Elder bowed. "The Force Field Emitters are operating at full capacity."
"All guard details stand ready to storm this world's shores if necessary, your grace," another elder added.
"Good, good, my trusted Elders," the Hoo-Meerian Emperor beamed with approval. "However, as per usual, we will only use the guards as a last resort. We want this world to appreciate our matchmaking surprises after all."
"Of course, your Majesty," the elders said in unison.
"Matchmaking, matchmaking, matchmaking, yes!" the Emperor said with glee as he clapped his hands. Bringing another world into his Matchmaking Fold always made him ecstatic. Watching the people of said worlds react, adapt, and accept the matches he and his Elders deemed appropriate would never cease to provide entertainment. Not to mention, it was a noble cause. What could be better than encouraging romance throughout the galaxy?
Right across from the Emperor's throne, in the circle of the fifteen elders, stood Garruck Fordux, the Senior Elder of the group. Unlike the other elders, he had a long scraggly beard of gray hair that reached his waist, having served on the Matchmaking Council not just during this dynasty, but the previous dynasty as well. Despite being the most senior on the council, he never spoke out of turn, and kept his hands clasped together in a patient demeanor as he awaited the Emperor's request for his input.
"Garruck?" the Emperor spoke. "Do you have anything else about this world to report to us?"
"Only one thing, your excellency," Garruck nodded. "According to the research conducted by the Scribes and myself in the Library, the people of this world speak many different languages. When you give your esteemed speech, you will need to utilize all translation resources."
The Emperor mulled this over, then smiled in agreement.
"Very well, Head Advisor Garruck, we shall make it so. Does anyone else have anything of importance that they wish to say?"
The fifteen elders shook their heads and bowed yet again, indicating they were in agreement with their Emperor. As if on cue to the conclusion of their meeting, the flagships's proximity alarm began to beep, and the Emperor's face lit up like a nebula.
"Splendid, splendid, splendid! If that is the case, it seems we've arrived at our destination! All elders, to your stations. May the Matchmaking be a blessing!"
"May the Matchmaking be a blessing!" the fifteen elders chorused in obedient unison.
"Matchmaking, matchmaking, matchmaking, yes!" the Emperor rejoiced in an almost childlike manner as he clasped his hands. So much cute, adorable romance waiting to happen. And his empire would be the one to start it.
This is where the entertainment would begin.
