Chapter 23

Serenity

I was so embarrassed when Susan told them what I was reading. Her offhanded attitude to sex baffled me. I guess it was a vampire thing. In the past couple of weeks, I'd learned the differences were adding up. My lack of experience in relationships made me awkward around most human men, but two vampires that have lived for hundreds of years...what could I possibly hope to offer them, especially in sex?

I shook my head in frustration as I pounded my hands into the dough. It had dawned on me that my efforts were silly really. They were vampires and here I was cooking food for them. I carefully placed the dough in the tins, filling them, then sprinkling freshly grated cheese on top. The recipe was one of my favorites from my childhood. Mother had taught me how to cook the small meat-filed pastries. I would stand on an old stool next to her as we worked. The delicate candied flowers I'd prepped were chilling in the freezer now. My last step was to place the potatoes in the oven. Susan had wandered off to another room as I used the large knife to finely slice the potatoes. When I miscalculated my movements, I let out a piercing scream as the blade sliced into my finger. Blood instantly gushed forth making me woozy.

"Serenity, what happened?" Garen asked as he was instantly behind me, while Daniel was leading my hand toward the faucet where he ran cold water.

"Stupid mistake," I panted. "Fuck, I don't feel so good."

"Slow breaths, darling. It's not too deep."

"You are a crappy liar," I teased him.

"Will you allow us to heal it?" Daniel asked hesitantly. I gave him a confused look so he explained, "Vampires can heal their Eternals when they bite them. This is a similar situation.

"Oh, um, yes please," I answered. Guess that's another difference.

He gently lifted my hand to his lips but kept his eyes firmly on mine. I felt the warmth of Garen's chest against me, his arms around my waist, and then Daniel's lips closed on my finger. His eyes instantly blackened as they had done the night he showed me his beast form. A growl escaped his chest as I felt him lick and suck on my finger. I gasped at his reaction, but Garen spoke softly in my ear, "Shh, darling, there's nothing to worry about. For us, this is a very intimate act. Yours is the last blood we will ever drink, the last our bodies will ever accept."

"But, why? I don't understand." I sounded breathless as my body began to heat up. Despite only holding my wrist and his lips touching my finger, I felt aroused.

"It is part of the bond. Should you ever choose to turn, the only blood you would drink would come from the two of us. Once a vampire commits to the bond, nothing else compares. This is what it means to be an Eternal. Our lives, souls, and even blood become linked forever." My head fell back as a soft moan escaped my lips.

Daniel released my hand and I was surprised to see no trace of the cut that had been there. "You, my love, taste absolutely divine, " he smirked. I choked slightly as I noticed his obvious arousal. He stood before me as I became sandwiched between the two men. His hard-on pressed against my stomach. "I think we need to have that discussion sooner rather than later."

"I just need to finish the potatoes." My voice came out raspy and uncertain.

"We'll help," they said in unison, making me laugh.

Despite my attempt to sever my finger, dinner turned out well. They both ate with gusto, complimenting me repeatedly. I had just placed the tiny cakes before them and added a delicate blossom to each one. Daniel eyed the blossom, asking, "What are they?"

"Pansies. My mom and I used to make these fairy cakes when I was a little girl. They're completely safe to eat."

"Did you say fairy cakes, Ren?" Daniel asked, his fork hovering over the tiny dessert.

"Yeah, they're simple sponge cakes with raspberry filling, a sugar glaze, and the candied flower on top. Why?" Had I done something wrong? "It's not real fairy food, that's just what my mama called them. I was a little girl after all." That seemed to make them both relax and they took a bite.

They both moaned and quickly finished the treat before I'd even taken my first bite. I giggled at their antics. "Ren, I think your mom had the actual recipe. Those taste like real fairy cakes, right down to the last drop." I blushed and took my bite. "Now, love, we have a couple of topics to discuss this evening."

"A couple?"

"Yes, I think we should move somewhere more comfortable," Both he and Garen stood, grabbed the wine and our glasses, then led me to my bedroom.

Garen set the glasses and wine on the table as Daniel led me to the edge of the bed. He knelt before me and held my hand. "We need to talk with you about something worrisome first, then we will discuss your reading materials."

"O...okay," I stuttered, not sure if I was more upset by the worrisome topic or embarrassed about the sex talk to come. They proceeded to explain what Matt had found at my firm. At first, I was freaked out, then I was livid. "You realize I'm coming with you, right?"

"Absolutely not," Daniel grumbled. "I don't want you anywhere near those bastards."

"Well me staying home alone isn't an option. I deserve to know what the hell they were plotting just as much as you do." I argued.

Garen took his side, "It isn't safe. We don't know who else they might be working with. This isn't the time to take risks, especially not with your safety."

My mouth gaped, "What the actual fuck? Are you kidding me?"

"What?" he asked in confusion.

"So let me get this straight, I'm the Eternal of a King and his second in command, but I'm too fragile to confront my old bosses about not one but two abductions? Care to explain how I'm expected to be a damn Queen when you treat me like a china doll?" I was gripping the comforter as I spoke, fighting to keep my voice even.

"Serenity, that's not what I meant," Garen tried to explain.

"Then by all means, tell me what you did mean, what you both mean," I demanded. "You can't shield me from everything. I know you love me, and I love both of you. I can't imagine life without you anymore. I want this," I waved my hand around. "I want to be your Eternal, to have a life with you both, to have a family, but I can't do that if you keep me in a glass cage. You have to trust me to be okay. You have to trust me to stand beside you, not hide behind you like some pathetic little girl."

"Spoken like a true Queen," Daniel rasped. "You're right, we need to have you by our side, even when it scares us." He leaned up and cupped my hands in his, bringing them to his lips. "Now that we've settled that, let's discuss your book, little one." His eyes sparkled with mischief.

I found myself wiggling on the bed, a mix of fear and curiosity. "What exactly was she reading?" Garen asked as he took his spot on the bed next to me.

"Seems our love is curious about being with both of us at the same time," Daniel grinned.

"I...I'm nervous," I muttered. "What if I'm not enough?"

In seconds they had me between them, their hands caressing me gently. "Oh darling, you are already enough," Garen said, his lips brushing against mine. He placed my hand on his crotch, his erection hard against my fingertips. "Do you feel what you do to me, to both of us? You are everything we want and need."

"But, I don't, I haven't really..." my words trailed off as I became embarrassed again, trying to lower my head.

"Are you saying you're a virgin, Ren?" Daniel asked.

"No, well, sort of, um."

He chuckled, "Okay, let's take a moment and let you explain that to us."

"I've fooled around, but not gone all the way," I blurted, covering my face in my hands. "And you two, well, how am I supposed to live up to hundreds of years of experience?" They each took a hand and pulled it away, refusing to let me hide. "Susan gave me the book to give me an idea of what our future might look like."

"Love, don't hide from us. While I'm glad your friend wanted to help, how about we agree from now on you ask us if you have questions, okay?" Daniel said.

"Okay."

"Now, that we've decided that, how about we talk about what you're comfortable with? We don't want you to feel rushed into anything, darling. We will wait until you're ready."

"But that's just it, Garen, I want this. I just don't know how it all works," I admitted.

"Let us show you then our Eternal," he whispered as he leaned in to kiss me.
