Lacy Adam'
The rule of three? How did he think of that? Probably something Russians do for fun. Maybe it's just a tradition in his family to do that. Why does that sound familiar? I couldn't pull the information out of my head that I wanted so I concentrated on the road.
Where are we going to go? What about home? No, I can't go back there. But I could go to Metias' house. Okay my mind is made up, that's where we're going, and plus we need gas soon, and I don't know where any gas stations are out here.
I make a quick u-turn, and everyone goes tumbling. "Sorry." I say shyly. Never had I ever been stuck in a car with two guys my age before. I usually wouldn't even talk to these types of people.
One, the security guard, seems to be the jock/preppy type, and Afanasi is more of the class clown type. I never hung around with this type of people. Most people thought of me as shy, quiet, and nerdy. I liked it that way, too. Now I'm stuck trying to survive the apocalypse for all I know with complete strangers, my best friends little brother, and my dog.
That's when I realized I never got to mourn my loss of my parents or friend. I feel the tears start to build up, but I push them away. I can't have the boys thinking I'm weak, I am the only girl around. So I wipe my eyes real quick, and say,
"So, what's everyone's names because I don't even know, and I feel like if we're going to be with each other for a while we should all know."
Nobody says anything so I say, “My name is Lacy Adams. I'm seventeen, and I'm an only child...kinda. Both my parents are dead now, and I watched my best friend die less than a week ago."
“I'm Di...Afanasi Orloff. I'm from Russia, I have four brothers, and three sisters, and I'm eighteen. My father hates me, and abuses me. Just me, none of my other siblings, just me."
"I'm, James Croww. I'm thirteen, I had a brother, and I can't comprehend what's going on yet, why my brother is dead, and why you two are here." He said pointing at Afanasi, and the security guy.
“Uh... Okay, I'm Aaron Smith. I'm twenty-two, I have two sisters, a twin brother that has cancer, and a Mom that can't support us. I was a drop out at sixteen because I needed to get a full time job, so my brother could continue getting his treatments."
Once he finished it was quiet, and somewhat awkward. We just shared so much about our selves. I smile, and reach over, and turn the radio on.
I put it on some pop station, and start to sing along. Then James starts to, but the two other boys just sat there. The dog started to bark along with us even. I bet we were quite a site to see, well if anyone was around to see us.
We are about halfway to the gas station where we found Afanasi, and Aaron almost killed me, when the gas gage lowers to empty. Shoot! I don't tell anyone. I drive for about seven more miles and the car rolls to a stop. “Uh... we have no gas." I whisper.
"What!" Aaron explodes, just like I thought he would.
"Calm down, whiny baby" Afanasi stated. "Two of us will just walk the rest of the way to the gas station, and get some gas, while two of us stays back, and perhaps try to push this hunk of metal."
"Good idea." James answers. "Lacy and I will stay back with the car, and you two can go get the gas!" I smiled.
"Sounds good to me." Afanasi hops out of the car, and so does Aaron. "Have fun!" I say, and I waved them good bye. "Oh, and don't kill each other please, we don't know how many people are around here anymore. Plus I'll make sandwiches while you're gone." Then they turned, and left.
I turned toward James, "Lets make some sandwiches then!" I get out of the car, and so does James. The dog hops out also, and wonders off to find a place to do his business. Today is going a lot better than the past couple of days has, and I'm enjoying it.
