It's been a couple of months since I last saw or talked to Ryan, but she was constantly in my thoughts. The look on her face when those elevator doors closed is imprinted in my mind and was starting to consume my brain. The day she left, I picked up the phone several times to call her but I was afraid. Pulling off my reading glasses, I glanced away from my book to see Toni shift in the bed beside me. We had pretty much fallen right back into our normal routine, she and I. She gave me the sweetest smile while batting her eyelashes. "Of course not, now will you please go dancing with me Janet?"

"How could I say no to that face?" I said, pulling her into a soft kiss. "Can we cuddle for a little while longer before I have to share you with the world again?" I asked. She bit her bottom lip, nodded and smiled.

We laid there, sharing sweet kisses, soft caresses and just enjoying our lazy day. The clock showed 8pm when we finally decided to start getting ready, so I headed for the shower.

The hot water felt good against my tense shoulders and back. I should really schedule a massage for myself at some point, I thought. Closing my eyes, I let the water pour over my head, drenching my hair as images of Ryan began to push through from the back of my brain.

That familiar aching intensified as the images of us spread across the dining room table like Sunday dinner replayed in my mind. Turning around, I gazed into her eyes before I spoke. "Do you know that I love you?" I asked, stroking her cheeks with my thumbs as my hands cradled her face.

The truth is, I felt guilty and so ashamed of myself in that moment but I love Toni. I've loved her for a very long time and nothing is going to change that. With that being said, our relationship has been no walk in the park and it has me pondering changing my path. I love her but I don't know if we're in love anymore.

My thoughts we're becoming overwhelming and all I wanted was relief from it. Toni looked at me lovingly and smiled.

"Of course I know. There is no doubt in my mind. Now go get warm, I need to wash my hair before I get out." She held her hand out and helped me out of the shower. I kissed her again before closing her inside.

As I stood in the mirror, waiting for my hair to dry, I glanced over at my phone and then back toward the shower. I knew that I shouldn't do this but there had to be a reason Ryan kept creeping up into my thoughts today.

Closing myself inside Toni's huge closet, I held my phone with shaky hands. I could still hear the shower running along with Toni singing echoing through the restroom.

"Siri..."

"Call Her." I said quietly. It was what I'd saved her name as in my phone. My heart was pounding as I put the phone to my ear and listened to it ring for what seemed like forever. Until I heard her voice.

"Hello?" Ryan said softly on the other end of the phone. I opened my mouth to say something but went completely still. "Janet? Is that you?" I heard her say, just as Toni opened the closet door wearing nothing but a towel.

She looked at me a little confused but smiled. "Playing hide and seek are we?" She joked as she thumbed through the hangers of clothes.

"Babe! No... I was just trying to call Preston, forgetting he is taking time off." I said and disconnected the call all the while trying to calm my breathing. "Do you think your driver would mind picking us up tonight?" I said sitting my phone down on the shelf.

"I'm sure she wouldn't mind." She kissed my nose and pointed to my phone. "I think he's calling you back." She finally chose her outfit, blew me a kiss and walked back into the bathroom.

I glanced down at my phone just as it went to voicemail, then played it back. My hands were shaking as I started to play the message she'd left.

"Jan, I don't know what made you call me today, but I am happy you did. You're not going to say it, so I will... I miss you. Janet I've fallen for you. I've never met anyone like you in my entire life. I need to see you, please, at least one more time and I'll never bother you again."

I replayed her message several times before deleting it. Her voice still echoed through my ears. I forgot the effect it had on me as observed the goosebumps covering my skin. Just as I walked back into the restroom, I received a text from her. It was an her address along with the the message...

I really need to see you, but If you don't show, I completely understand.
